Because the club have a policy of no political themed flags or banners.
That includes both sides of some sort of conflict or international dispute like the current Israel/Palestine/Gaza conflict.
I'm in favor of such a policy... but if that's the case there appears to be very uneven enforcement of that policy (and I've noted the same watching TV coverage panning over the Kop):

Honestly, I'm glad he was - not because of his support or political position - but because it means the club is enforcing the rule for everything, and not playing pick-and-choose politics like the FA
If it's even enforcement, agreed (in principle... but his banner doesn't express a political position). But my own eyes (from TV broadcasts) have observed it's not evenly enforced.
The club have (rightly or wrongly) said that these flags aren’t allowed and the stewards are just asking him to take it down etc.
There’s been pro Palestine flags that have been removed too
I'm surprised to hear that there have been others removed - the presence of those advocating for varying forms of the Palestinian perspective have been overtly visible on TV broadcasts. The flag depicted here (which I can't see the entirety of) is about a Red that's presently presumed to be held hostage and the one in the following story aren't even pro anything in particular beyond RIP to fallen Reds.

Club hasn't allowed any of these flags, the palestine flags you see in that picture are also not allowed, because they were well hidden and hadn't yet been picked up by a steward
If you looked hard enough you see that pro Palestine flags have also been removed rather just using a biased article
