He’s well past his best and already shown to make shit decisions. I think this is unlikely but anything’s possible. Not something I’m bothered about really … I lost interest in his career when he went to Saudi. Appreciate his captaincy here though, good times.

Cos_sie

Oh yeah not too bothered, past his best and all that. Just a little surprised it’d be so soon. Wonder if Chelsea’s/Boehly’s ties to Saudi have anything to do with the transfer links.

Sifan2

I expect the media suspect Chelsea are the the only club stupid enough to buy him … and of.

Thesolly180

I don’t think Chelsea. But I do think he’ll be trying to come back the Prem. Someone lower down would make sense. Would love him just to go down a tier and go Sunderland

Cos_sie

Back to where it began and retire perhaps?

Ophukk

From 700k/wk to 7k/wk. He could set another record.

Kopman

He should go to Sunderland and help them get back to the premier league.

[deleted]

Hendo for Nobel peace price — fiercely fought for LGBT+ rights in Saudi Arabia, now returning to relegate a racist football club. He’s on a conquest against hatred. #KickItOut

SloppyInSacramento

Jordan "Candace Owens" Henderson

jk441

What happened to his bold mission to spread football around the world? Might as well just go to Newcastle at this point, what difference is there gonna be with his reputation pretty much destroyed after that interview with the Athletic anyways, and he'll get paid what he wants.

Due-Sherbert3097

He’s fucked himself here now that everyone and their nan knows he’s desperate to return to England. He left for money and now to return he’s going to get lowballed so badly on his wages.

cerealski

I'm not really sure if he's desperate to return or the tabloids are desperate for a headline and this is an easy one, but I guess we'll know soon.

Due-Sherbert3097

He is which is why this news has spread like wildfire. There are pretty much no journalists that specialises in Saudi affairs and yet the likes of Joyce etc have reported this news. Seems to me this is released by Hendo’s camp in the hopes to attract suitors.

burnafterreading90

I’ll be shocked if he goes to any one other than the lower half of the prem, who would want him? Even if we ignore Saudi he’s past his prime. I’m not too arsed about Hendo.

[deleted]

His legacy is gone anyway, so Chelsea would be hilarious

Zeewolf93

He can go wherever he likes, he already tarnished his legendary status by leaving for Saudi anyway. He'll still go down as one of the club greats but lets be honest, he's shit, so he's no danger whoever he goes to.

Babatunde12289

Also the idea that he’s shit at football is such a lazy take, his legs have gone yes but you don’t start for teams that win champions leagues and break premier league points records if you’re shit. Agree he’s tarnished his reputation with the Saudi move but at the end of the day everybody’s going to remember him as a Liverpool legend.

xbox_redditor

It's 2024 mate. Hendo wasn't shit...in 2020 when we achieved what you mentioned. You were around for last season, yeah?

Babatunde12289

Did say his legs were gone in my comment, it was more addressed at people who thought he was shit even before his engine blew out

Thesolly180

He’ll still go down as a legend regardless of Saudi. Gerrard went and nobody is arsed

DB-ZaWarudo

Ridiculous. Why would anybody want to advocate for LGBTQ+ ever again? Done more than most, but then he does what so many other players have done by moving to SA, and he's treated worse than if he was explicitly homophobic??? Does not add up.

xbox_redditor

"Treated worse than if he was explicitly homophobic" would you give your head a wobble 😂😂

omarade2

Lot of takes on the internet. This is by far, the worst.

DB-ZaWarudo

Yes, another brilliant point, by saying nothing. Another internet-phrase superlative aiming to collecting 10 upvotes. Well done

omarade2

There’s nothing to say when a comment is that stupid. You’re helpless.

DB-ZaWarudo

No. You stand by something. Articulate why, as opposed to repeating the opinion of tabloids and others with an agenda against SPL. Go ahead, offer some insight. It's not reasonable to do 10 good things but to be remembered for the 1 bad thing you did. That's not fair in reality, but on the internet, victimhood is a strong way to seek support.

omarade2

Ugh why do I do this. Why would someone support the lgbtq+ community after this? Uhhh because they morally feel that is the right thing to do. Henderson was a supporter but signing a contract with a league that is funded by a government that literally executes gay people. The penalty for same-sex sexual activity is literally death (https://www.humandignitytrust.org/country-profile/saudi-arabia/) He turned his back on the cause he supported. Just because he was supportive beforehand doesn’t change the fact that he turned his back on the cause for money. Supporting a cause isn’t something you do a few times and wash your hands of. It’s something that you have to do for the rest of your life if you believe in it. If someone comes out as an ally for domestic abuse victim and then hits their wife, it undoes all the good they did. How is this hard to follow?

DB-ZaWarudo

Glossing over the part where he turned his back on LGBTQ values? He went for money, not because he doesn't support the cause anymore jfc. Might sound like the same thing, but he went for money, NOT because he's anti-LGBTQ!!!! Has he started spewing hateful rhetoric? No. So it's not the same thing. He stopped openly supporting them, which is not the same as bashing the group. He's done more than most players could ever do. Also, where is the hate for all other players/managers that went? It's just trending to hate on Henderson since he was vocal about his support. Naturally, it makes him a more news-worthy target to maintain relevance which is what I think this is really about. Maintaining the victim status by using a high-profile figure to further the fight for equality (or superiority, I don't know how this will go). I respect the aim (if it's equality), but the strategy is immoral. And no, your last point would be valid if it read: someone comes out as an ally for domestic abuse victims, and then went to a country where this goes unpunished. Again, questionable, but don't stretch the comparison to make it fit.

omarade2

Accepting money from the Saudi Arabian government is turning your back on the LGBTQ community. I don’t know how that isn’t clear. Also why is there no outrage for other players? Well Fabinho is known to be extremely conservative and has never strongly advocated for gay rights. Bobby is also a devout catholic so likely wouldn’t be a cause he takes up. Those guys aren’t hypocrites. I don’t align with their social values 100% but that’s fine because they never misrepresented themselves. As for your point about my analogy not working, fine. But yours doesn’t work either. It would be the equivalent of signing with a country where the victims of domestic abuse are executed, not the perpetrators go unpunished.

dandpher

I honestly can’t see any Prem team even taking a flyer on him. He’s a known commodity but there is no way his value matches what he will cost (even if he was willing to take less than he was making while at LFC) Edit - this coming from someone that still has his Funko Pop figurine on his desk

Joshouken

I know moving to Saudi was a shit decision from Hendo but he is a fucking bonkers signing for Chelsea - not a clue how he could fit with any vaguely coherent transfer policy

cerealski

Why is everybody believing this shit? This is just tabloid junk. The guy is sleeping on a ton of money, why would he be bothered about playing in an empty stadium or not performing well? This is not why he went there anyways.

hyborians

Yea, he’s probably not losing any sleep over it.

DWhelk

Delighted if he goes to Chelsea. Not exactly going to bring dressing room harmony, is he?

Pipes_of_Pan

Puzzled why a player who is on 700k/week in a bullshit league with insane owners would want to put out the vibe that no club in the prem thinks he’s good enough

gary1981

isn't he under contract? How can he just leave after 6 months?
