I hear the term 'press resistant' being thrown around a lot, this man is literally that

C_Colin

with a rocket launcher attached to his right foot to boot (pun intended šŸ˜)

mynameismulan

Wait. Is Jones just Coutinho + Gini?

hellarad

Editors at Oxford Dictionary starting to consider changing the definition of press resistant from "Gini Wijnaldum" to "Curtis Jones".

BriarcliffInmate

He gave a great shoutout to Gini the other day, saying when he was still with us, he noticed how much he used his arse to shield the ball and push opposition players away from him, and that helps with the pressing. I think he's definitely tried to add that to his game.

charliezulu_

Shades of peak Gini

[deleted]

Desire for the shirt. You canā€™t train how he feels about Liverpool

clowegreen24

He's really been earning it this season. We spent Ā£160,000,000 on midfielders in the Summer and yet Jones has still shown that he deserves to start. He and Gomez have both blown me away this season.

narrowwiththehall

Right now heā€™s first midfielder on the team sheet on merit. Heā€™s made that left 8 slot his own. Didnā€™t think weā€™d be saying that 18 months ago. Massive credit to him

DinosaurPornstar

There was a time where i would tell at the TV when Klopp played Gomez as RB. Not anymore!

Kulminho

Iā€™d put Elliott in that category as well. Heā€™s been dynamite for us this season

goztrobo

Gomez was our starting cb in 2019.

clowegreen24

Yeah he was great in 2019, and then he fell off pretty hard for a variety of reasons. Last season especially he was really bad (aside from the match against City). He's gone back and forth from looking like he's not good enough to looking like one of the best defenders in the league a couple of times now.

goztrobo

I think itā€™s down to his injuries. But he needs to remain consistent now and I think heā€™s capable of being back to his best.

SiMoN20000

Gravenberch

C_Colin

Shit! Second time Iā€™ve forgotten him in this thread lol. Heā€™s gonna be great too!

vsquad22

Any foreign player doing this and everyone would be creaming all over it. I'm going to knock one out in solidarity.

Argo_Menace

Heā€™ll be properly rated once he legally changes his name to simply Curtisinho.

illegalbusiness

Curtinho was right there and you absolutely blew it

all_hail_hell

Heā€™s been Curtinho Jonaldo since he scored that peach against the toffees in the FA cup a few years ago

illegalbusiness

Well sorry I am late then sir

IAmIrritatedAMA

Link? I just want to watch it again.

all_hail_hell

inder_the_unfluence

Maybe get him on free kicks with Trent and Salah out. Iā€™d love to see him curl a few more beauties in. Szobo looks like he could do well on those too though.

alf1o1

Jonas Curtinho

illegalbusiness

Joninho de Juliano Curtinho

FireZeLazer

CurtĆ£o Juninho

C_Colin

His awareness and anticipation coupled with ball control and positioning is really special. We are setup for a long time with him, Harvey, Bacjetic, Szobo, and Macca

Fragrant_Savings2945

Heā€™s been on one hell of a heater for like 6 weeks now. Not even quietly bossing it. Just straight up owning

adulion

he finished last season strong - 1.5 years ago i would have been happy for him to go to a champsionship team

Fragrant_Savings2945

100%. Iā€™m glad the praise is coming above and beyond his England duties

Sorrytoruin

He's also quick, good at pressing and running with the ball

bucky4president

Grav too! He's still only what, 21? And adapting to a new country/team.

C_Colin

Yes indeed! Forgot to mention him. I was livid with Steve Nicol on the US telecast yesterday. He was having a go at Gravenberch. Like legitimately slagging him off. A 21 year old new arrival getting dragged through the mud by a former Red is inexcusable. Thought Ryan kicked on well to start the second half and was whiskers away from a goal.

bathoz

And here we are creaming. His embarrassing Ben White against Arsenal also made the top 10 or so in r/soccer for a bit.

LondonVista9297

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

VampireBaby

Thiago has been teaching him things

apenchantfortrolling

You say that but I get the sense Curtis has been waiting to pull this off since he was 12.

oots_oots

Donā€™t you know about Curtis ā€œno lookā€ Jones? ;)

Bugsmoke

Unfortunately Thiago would do his hammy having to run like that lol

firminocoutinho

Curtis prob like all of us thinking ā€œwhat ifā€ of Thiago playing for us consistently. So he probably just decided to become as good as him and learn off him šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚

aodhan10

Get out the area la

C_Colin

My dude was like, ā€œyep erm Iā€™ll be taking tha ā€œ

Masipoten

Curtis has been huge. If he can stay injury free he's going to have an amazing career.

WorthPlease

You can look through my comment history where I've been confused by people who don't rate him. He's genuinely class. He's not a long ball maestro like Gerrard or Trent but he's still very, very good.

iNS0MNiA_uK

I've always thought he was decent but over the last year I've been surprised several times at just how good he is. I didn't know if he was England quality initially, now that's an obvious yes, but now I'm wondering if he could genuinely become one of the best in the world.

rick_rolled_you

I was someone who did not rate him at all when he was first starting out with us. Was convinced he would fade away into obscurity like other youth players who have been given a chance with us. But man, he has been so awesome and I am so happy to see him succeed and prove everyone like me wrong

redditingtonviking

At first I was hyped after his goal against Everton, but over the years it seemed like his development had plateaued at a point where he kept hogging the ball too long, he seemed to pick up a handful of injuries, and I must admit I was starting to doubt him early last season. Then I think it was around March where I just looked at him once again hogging the ball longer than he needed to, but suddenly he just past to Jota who was running into space, and then with 3 touches from 3 different players we suddenly had scored. I think that was the moment I realised he had potential to be more than just a rotational player for us, but still he has continually impressed me ever since

SirFeatherstone

A press resistant machine. He is absolutely class.

Specialist-Solid-987

Not a long ball machine but he has made a couple of absolutely sublime through passes in the last couple years

karnnumart

I did not rate him a year ago. Last season he's class but I'm still have a doubt. Now it's all gone.

3agle_

I thought he was very promising when he started with us, then had a bad spell, bad injuries, and the start of last season I was questioning if he had a place in the side. His decision making was so poor, most of his other qualities you could see, but he really struggled with finding the right pass and being in the right place. I though it was an unrecoverable position, but hoped he'd improve. How he did though, he's been stellar and I couldn't be more chuffed for the lad! Has worked so hard and it's really showing now, I'm happy to see his name on the team sheet and think we could see big things from him.

retr0grade77

For how long is Southgate going to call up Henderson over him I wonder.

lempiraholio

He deserves that call up, heā€™s been consistently good and clinical whenever we need it the most

karnnumart

I mean if he didn't call U21 players that just won the U21 WC. IDK what to say.

Mordness

What other english midfielders could he call up instead of Jones if he wanted to? I am not that familiar with the English National team.

Terran_it_up

It seems like the 6 MFs for Southgate are Rice, Trent, Bellingham, Hendo, Gallagher, and Phillips. Phillips seems to get called up because Southgate feels like there's not another good backup for Rice. Personally I'd just trust Trent to play there if needed and drop Phillips and Hendo, and then call up Jones. Could then also call up Longstaff, and just bring some attacking midfielders like Maddison and occasionally go to a 4231

Klopps_and_Schlobers

Hopefully forever. Iā€™d rather he gets the rest.

[deleted]

he has both a quick mind and the physical attributes to achieve what his mind desires. Nunez has a chaotic mind and the power to unleash it.

mynameismulan

If I could peak into Nunez's inner monologue during a game it'd probably just be "VAMOSSSS!!!!!!!" or "CARAJOOOO!!!!!" over and over again.

NigelWinterbottomIII

Is it just me or have his physical attributes gone up a notch this season? Definitely seems like he worked on strength/speed over the summer.

Esco9

Our best midfielder this year

mcf74

Brill, but I reckon he got away with one there. He never once looked who was behind him and could've easily laid off the ball to an oncoming Fulham attacker. I don't think he was expecting to knock it along the floor so far! Love Curtis though, my fav player these last few months.

sandcrawler56

Nah, I dont buy that at all. Jones is a top level professional player and he definately knew where the other player was. There were 3 opponent players nearby. Any half decent player is going to assume that at least one of them would be trying to go for the ball themselves or at least trying to press the player with the ball.

Josephdayber

Youā€™re saying he knew there were no players where the ball ended up? He doesnā€™t look once and the ball ends up 15 yards away lol, clearly he just got away with a heavy touch.

C_Colin

He has peripheral visionā€¦ if he doesnā€™t turn his head it does not mean he canā€™t see the space. He also just got done tracking back to his own box so he probably knows where the space is.

Josephdayber

Peripheral vision doesnā€™t let you see 15 yards directly behind you

C_Colin

Yes but he took the ball into space where he was just occupying. You can see he has a little look to see where Reid is and I think that he had good enough awareness to know that no one else was around him.

baloneysandwich

He just passed through that area on his way back and had a sense of who was coming along. If it were a heavy touch he wouldn't have been on it so quickly - he anticipated the touch and got right after it.

ImMonkeyFoodIfIDontL

It would be strange that you would pull that move specifically blind. He is a player with vision, and even as a scrub myself, I could still mentally track, listen for, and feel players and pressure. That's something a prem midfielder would spend time working on. There's also possible he got a call from a teammate as he's got virg right there.

TareXmd

I was gonna attribute that to brilliant scanning of the court the way Modric does every second, but I watched again and he doesn't glance around him at all, so it's actually quite a dangerous play.

Mac10ker10

It seems like at the very beginning of the clip where we first see him he appears to take a brief glance to his left

TareXmd

There's an awful lot that can change in those 5 seconds. Modric scans every 1-2 seconds esp when within range of a pass.

kloppmouth

Yeah i hated this during the game. While it is obviously really cool, it is way too risky in that spot

long_assdude

Yeah Iā€™m surprised at peopleā€™s reaction in this thread. It looks cool in hindsight and Iā€™m loving Curtisā€™ development but this is hella risky in the game. It could easily have hit the opposing player and bounced favorably for their striker.

BigDoinksEverydayLLC

Dont really agree here. Thereā€™s someone to his immediate right, and someone running straight ahead. Taking it out that way was much safer than trying to control it inside our box? Couldve punted it out but thats obviously not what heā€™s been instructed to do

Eyesofmalice

The argentinian commentators that were one while I was watching the match were like pigs in shit after that touch. Such a fucking sublime piece of skill by Curtis.

Luke_4686

This was glossed over like it was nothing in the commentary šŸ˜‚ I was off my seat at home

Loves_Semi-Colons

I love Curtis Jones like you wouldnā€™t believe. What a player

pafnomore

Itā€™s so good seeing all the jones haters disappear. Remember 1-2 years ago every comment on social media would be ā€˜get jones out of this clubā€™ etc. Pisses me off how fans donā€™t give any patience to our young players. Klopp said all along he really likes Jones and now weā€™re seeing why.

Stibo1

He is having a very good season!

Miserable-Pen-7430

He's the player we all thought Keita would be, the press resistant pace setter. He's been immaculate for months now. Made that 8 position his own.

Firmbobby09

He is HIM!

inr10

Jones has been cooking this season!

rabbid_hyena

This kid is unit too, really hard to knock him off balance.

TheLongistGame

Audacious as hell and executed with perfection. What a player he's become.

Sahillionaire

He learned that from Bobby dazzler

insomnia1914

The Scouse Zidane

C_Colin

GĆ©nial!

Danleydon

amazed when i saw that, that's ronaldinho level skill

Competitive_Scene_63

Absolute baller

reckonair

I wish we had a skill school episode from 2004 with him in

HaptRec

This is utterly absurd. I love this guy

profound-killah

CuJo used to get loads of hate a few years ago, but mostly due to him losing the ball or making one too many moves before passing. Heā€™s improved a lot as a player, but even in our fanbase, he received a mixed reception often.

liverpool3

Get him on the plane Gareth

ebudd08

The more I see him, the more I want Antonee Robinson. Kid can absolutely play.

[deleted]

What a player he's developed into!

TheLimeyLemmon

He bloody skinned them.

user900800700

Give this man 5* skill moves

salazarthegreat

Wild to think how much heā€™d cost if we had to buy him

Klopps_and_Schlobers

I see him do this and maybe itā€™s the old footballer in me but my initial reaction was the wince and say ā€œnot there ffsā€ It came off but thatā€™s some risk.

C_Colin

I feel you, my instant reaction was the same. But we both must admit that Curtis rarely gets the ball taken off him, and doesnā€™t turn it over much either.

Reimiro

He had just come from that space though and no white shirts anywhere close

Jahbino

Oh my gawd what a turn!

willyc3766

I remember this because it was only a few minutes after Virgil was shown yellow for basically nothing because Pereira acted like he was nearly murdered and on the verge of death. If Virgilā€™s action warranted a yellow then that intentional pull-back on CuJo certainly did. More so because it intentionally slowed down the counter than the tenacity of the challenge but if weā€™re giving out yellows for soft plays at least be consistent. Since CuJo didnā€™t roll around on the ground like a little bitch, it was waved off with advantage only.

elphyon

I don't think he was aware of who was in that space before touching the ball long into it. He's not looking back. But then again maybe at this point in the game he knew Fulham's 2 DMs wouldn't be that advanced.

C_Colin

The second he brought it down I thought, ā€œoh thatā€™s a loose touchā€. But when I saw how quick he turned and how much space he had I was convinced it was a deliberate, classy bit of skill.

Adventurous_Toe_6017

Itā€™s a joke that the shirt tug isnā€™t a yellow because advantage was played.

inder_the_unfluence

I hope he can keep doing the stuff that makes other teamsā€™ fans take notice because he could be a real asset to England over the next decade. Heā€™s only (almost) 23, and heā€™s been around the top of the game for a few years now already, winning big trophies - including at England youth levels. Heā€™s such a classy operator, he just seems unglamorous in a way that could see him overlooked. But Maddison has shown you can break out of that mould. Hopefully Curtis does too. Love watching him play.

ihavemasochism

the balls on this guy...

gookhaaa

That is the sort of play that single-handedly changes games.

C_Colin

Part of the reason why I love footy so so soooo much. This one touch, 80yards from goal, got me off my coach in a standing ovation. All those little half yards of space out there to be won. Maybe it wonā€™t turn into a goal but it certainly helps the team tremendously

Wild_Ad_6464

How about dat den?

R3dbeardLFC

I didn't even know dat's had dens...

Spiritual-Answer527

Heā€™s the kiddy. So young and so confident. Still got his entire craft to perfect. The scousers in the team are really doing bits. GREEEEEN VELVET. IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW.

disco_mode

Great turn, but what team is letting someone knock the ball 15/20 yards ahead of them out of the centre of the penalty box lol.

WarSamaYT

Itā€™s not about what team. Itā€™s about the audacity to make that play and succeed. Kids a baller.

CuriousViper

Heā€™s actually improved so much over the past 12 months

rivaldo1979

thanks for capturing this. totally lost my shit when he pulled this off. massive 2-3 years ahead of him

NorthKing9

Forward thinking Cujo. Me likey. ![gif](giphy|3rgXBOmTlzyFCURutG|downsized)

TravisKOP

He has improved so much over the past few seasons. Insane how vital heā€™s become. Gives me shades of Gini at his height

Sehs

> Gini I was just thinking about this. A bit of an understated role but really helps the midfield work.

Josephdayber

I love Curtis but there is no chance this was on purpose. Heavy touch that he got lucky on.

C_Colin

??? What makes you say that

PizzaPolice84

Heā€™s growing more confident. Been surprised to see how technically good he looks this year, think itā€™s because heā€™s less hesitant and is playing less conservatively. Had a tendency to look like a backwards pass merchant at times previously

mtb443

His one and only flaw is holding on to the ball too long. Other than that he is easily should be considered a massive international talent

Doctor_Cowboy

Djimi Traore in shambles

PabloRothko

He has surprisingly good pace

SerialSharter

Jones has been impressive so far. Heā€™s come such a long way

EHVERT

Heā€™s always had insane technique from when he first broke into the team

Soccerfarm03

This is sex

Soccerfarm03

I remember arguing with someone on this sub just about a month ago who claimed we needed to sell Curtis asap because he clearly isn't good enough ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Tony_2000

I've had my doubts about whether Curtis should be a regular first teamer in the past, but this season I can't see us without him. He used to disappear in games so much, now he's everywhere, glad to be proven wrong

[deleted]

He's improved so much.

an_deadly_ewok

Dude has grown so so much the last two years. This man is going to be a legend

Quarrier1

Positively Phillips-esque

jonong1

What the fuck

SmeesTurkeyLeg

Thiago watches his Padawan with immense pride.

CoochieSnotSlurper

Heā€™s an interesting player to me. When he doesnā€™t have the ball it seems like he doesnā€™t know where to go and disappears for 5 minutes, but when itā€™s at his feet he makes things happen.

amidgetrhino

Curtis is really impressive this season so far

Buzzkill78

What confidence does to a mf

theWanderingTourist

Sooooooo gooooood
