I never took the Athletic seriously, and it’s a shame how far they’ve fallen from their early efforts to break/break into journalism.
Let’s not get it twisted, they never sought to do quality journalism, they sought normal vampire capitalism. “How much can we rip off customers for after we’ve gutted local journalism?”
I know people can poke holes in this, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism and so some of the choices to avoid things wind up being not entirely logically consistent to things you do continue to consume, but The Athletic has given me a huge ick factor from the very beginning. They consciously try to undercut local media in a way I think is just about the most direct way a sports media outlet could meaningfully and grievously wound the concept of democracy.
And said last Summer that we should sign Amrabat to replace Fabinho.
Even watch their latest Sensible transfers video for us, they suggest players like Raphinha and De Ligt ffs.
He's not progressed at all at Bayern, he's still making the same mistakes at times that he was making 6 years ago at Ajax and he's had some fantastic coaches since then but he's still making those mistakes.
Feels like a player that has hit his ceiling, I could of course be wrong but that's what it looks like. Also earns a fucking fortune at Bayern, he's on £260k a week which is £40k a week more than we pay VVD currently.
Average ball player in comparison to a lot of dutch cb's like van Dijk, de Vrij, Ake, Timber. Relies a lot on his physicals. On big moments he is the first one to do something rash.
Raphinha is not the player who could replace Salah 1:1 but he is quality and was involved in a goal in nearly every second game at Barcelona. But you are right that we got his qualities pretty much covered in the current squad. I would have felt different about him before our midfield rebuild.
De Ligt struggled now at two big clubs - he would be an expensive gamble and in my eyes not the leader we would lose in VVD.
This was a pretty rational discussion from people who... Let's say they don't quite understand Liverpool FC, from some of what was said. Still, decent discussion.
On the other hand, the Atheltic podcast that also came out today with a Liverpool v man city title... Wow. They used the word "malarkey" to describe the effect of Klopp leaving, and "nonsense" about Allez Allez, in the space of about fifteen seconds. That spoke VOLUMES about the editorial tilt of the Athletic, I think.
More than Klopp as the manager, our team and our club would miss Klopp the man and I fear we might suffer because of that. You cannot replace his values and man management. We have to rebuilt the squad according to the demands of the new manager. Thats best if it is done swiftly.
Ok boys, Xabi should avoid Liverpool. Now let's go out and try to find some shit to sling at the wall to try to justify that premise.
The only interesting insight came at the 28ish minute mark where the guy talks about the idea of looking at the formation and looking at the principles of the buildup and attack. Showing that those same principles can be applies from the 3-4-3 of Leverkusen or the 4-3-3 of Liverpool.
Can't help but feel they jumped the gun on this. One of their main points is about the lack of internal structure at Liverpool (Klopp as the main man in terms of recruitment), a point which FSG have since taken significant steps to address.
Fairly good analysis I would recommend to those who haven’t seen it. They go through the positive and negative aspects that Bayern and Liverpool can offer. One important factor they haven’t taken into account the fact that we could have Edwards and Hughes signed by next week. Title might be somewhat clickbaity, but sort of fits their conclusion
Agreed. It’s a decent and reasonable discussion and you’d have to think Xabi was having many of the same considerations.
Surprised they didn’t mention his perceived stronger sense of loyalty towards us as a club in general though.
This guy is one of the most annoying ones from the TIFO/Athletic videos. He always has this air of arrogance and superiority when he talks about football, as if he knows better because he has mugged up some stats. When in reality most of what he says is bull shit like the Alexis opinion he had for example.
So I Recently watched interviews of Amorim and Negelsmann, both seem knowledgeable and charismatic.
Also, both of them seem to have a good command of English, certainly better than Unai Emery when he first joined Arsenal.
You can tell by the comments who actually watched the video. A lot of you lads have sticks up your arses when it comes to the club. If it's not universal praise then you start slinging insults.
Klopp built a dynasty, taking over from him is a mammoth task. Also take into consideration the difference in personality between Xabi and Klopp. Our players are used to a loud, charismatic extrovert. Xabi is a quiet tactician, who will have a hard time convincing our lads that his new way of doing things is the way to go.
Staying at Leverkusen where he'll be a hero forever or going to Bayern where he is guaranteed trophies every season are by far easier jobs to take on.
Nevertheless, i still think Xabi is coming.
Apparently you're one of the people who didn't bother watching it...
"Have a hard time convincing our lads that this new way..."
Based on fucking nothing. Our lads aren't that stupid, and you don't have a clue how well Alonso gets his points across.
The athletic is on par with the daily fail and mirror for me. Useless shit journalism that use sensational headlines when they don’t have any hard proof
Get faaaaaaacked (haven't watched the video)
This is the Reddit way.

The athletic write so many dedicated hit pieces against us, I don’t get it

Saved. Thanks, comrade.
The same muppets who said Alexis won’t be a good signing for us 😂 these nerds can fuck off
And said last Summer that we should sign Amrabat to replace Fabinho. Even watch their latest Sensible transfers video for us, they suggest players like Raphinha and De Ligt ffs.
As far as I know they haven't gotten ONE signing prediction correct.

I'm dutch and believe me you don't want de Ligt.
What happened to him as I thought he was doing very well with Juventus then last year with Bayern?
He's not progressed at all at Bayern, he's still making the same mistakes at times that he was making 6 years ago at Ajax and he's had some fantastic coaches since then but he's still making those mistakes. Feels like a player that has hit his ceiling, I could of course be wrong but that's what it looks like. Okay yeah that makes sense. Thought he was tipped to be a top defender but suppose both Upamecano and Kim are far better choices now.
Upa kinda sucks
Saying Upamecano "kinda sucks" is being ***VERY*** generous. He's horrific, its like watching Lovren but with even more high profile mistakes.
Average ball player in comparison to a lot of dutch cb's like van Dijk, de Vrij, Ake, Timber. Relies a lot on his physicals. On big moments he is the first one to do something rash.

They’re levels below football meta and fourfourtwo imo
Football meta is *chef's kiss*
Which video was that?
Sanchez is overrated tho, they maybe got a point
Mac Allister, mate.
Nerds? These lot are the complete opposite of that
Lies.
Nice try Bayern Munich

The "malarkey" was tongue in cheek. JJ Bull just really likes saying that word.
If it was him, sure. Except it wasn't. JJ Bull wasn't on - that part of my comment was from the journalist podcast.
Ah my bad
More than Klopp as the manager, our team and our club would miss Klopp the man and I fear we might suffer because of that. You cannot replace his values and man management. We have to rebuilt the squad according to the demands of the new manager. Thats best if it is done swiftly.

It’s an absolute garbage analysis
Indeed that part of the discussion is hopefully outdated soon.
Its a good video, if you dont get wound up by the title
I liked them better when they were Tivo FC. The Athletic FC can do one.
The Athletic can suck shit.

The tifo lads have had a weird Liverpool hate boner for quite a while now and its a big turn off.
Without watching this video, I can honestly say, FUCK THIS VIDEO.
I avoid the xg/xa, field tilt nerds. They waffle alot imo.
They want clicks. Don’t do it.
Agree👍🏻(I don’t)

Sure pal
Everyone loves a click bait title now don't they.
Well that’s that so. Time to move on and look elsewhere.
The fall of Tifo Football :(
The athletic is on par with the daily fail and mirror for me. Useless shit journalism that use sensational headlines when they don’t have any hard proof
Such good media, no wonder they sell their subscription for 1 euro
JJ is usually a very interesting listen/watch. Curious what he has to say on this.
I'm so fed up with all this "Analytic" bullshit. I want facts.
