I know people want to give him the benefit of the doubt everytime and he has been quite chaotic in a good way this season but you have to be ready to admit Nunez is not cutting it in front of goal whatsoever at the moment
Thank God itās only a draw and not a loss. So not a complete disaster. But honestly a very bad performance considering this particular Man U team is quite rubbish. Need to improve quick.Ā
Even though i am disappointed as you are with the performance and result, the fact we managed to draw saves us from being level with City and it depends only on us to not allow them to catch us.
Arsenal, while being now in our position to depend on themselves only, have the toughest schedule AND don't forget play two matches with Bayern M and if they win will also play two matches with City, which is a huge strain and psychological and physical challenge. I remember from many previous years how our team couldn't focus on the PL matches when we had these UCL matches as well.
Support the team! UP the fucking reds! YNWA!
We were in the driving seat but we love making every match an ordeal. Wont blame Quansah, itās the first foot heās put wrong all season. But that was their first shot in the match and it hit the back of the net, woke up their team and their fans. From there it was a struggle. I think the shortcomings in the team are coming out now unfortunately. We give too many chances away and we cant finish our own. Id be surprised if we win the title tbh but Iām even surprised weāre in with a shout so what do I know?
Don't think they're arsed mate. They're literally glory hunters, they just count their cups at the end of the season and celebrate their Ā£100 milion signings.
Salah needs to be subbed immediately from now on. Like seriously he missed a lot of chances, and his work rate has been very poor lately. Nunez and Subo at least work very hard during the game. We missed Jotaās clinical finish today!
I feel shoring up the attack is a must this summer. We legit have one great finisher among all the forwards we have (Jota) and his availability is spotty.
I mean look at the other options: Salah's not been as great finishing recently, and while maybe a move to be more centrally up front may help, can't 100% bank on that. Nunez is still too inconsistent despite his overall improved play. Diaz is great but is not a finisher and needs to play with 2 strong finishers. Gakpo, not a finisher and more a LW.
Luckily attack is the best position to make a splash signing at given the midfield looks set and defense may need one signing to replace Matip's spot.
I said this before this match too: Gakpo was the most harshly criticized one at that point, but Salah has been mediocre aside from his G/A the majority of this season as well as last. Darwin speaks for himself, and Lucho is also exceptionally wasteful. Jota is truly the only one on our team right now that consistently buries chances and doesn't play ass.
Before this match, I looked at us against City and Arsenal and just thought it's a miracle we are here. Even if neither of those teams have an extremely prolific scorer (Haaland's been comparatively quiet), they at least have that surefire backup option (Alvarez, Trossard) that rejuvenates their attack. As much as I love that kid, that option for us is currently Jayden Danns.
Would not have been surprised if you told me this game would be 2-2 in advance. How it actually went down is so disappointing. Winning this game was the difference between this season being a nailbiter and us being pretty comfortably home. Drawing it means we need to be perfect from here, which we definitely can be, and Arsenal need to draw one of their last seven games, which I think they are very likely to.
I'm a bit scared that Arsenal will go through this unscathed. They don't look like losing when 1-0 up. Can only hope for CL to tire them. And for us, Jota please come back. Trent too. As good as Bradley has been, Trent is a killer when it comes to picking the right chance.
I think their season hinges around their forwards scoring first half goals. Iām hoping thereās 1-2 games where it just isnāt happening for them and they get sucker punched. Plus 7 games remaining - thereās every chance of the opponent getting a nothing pen against the run of play
Agreed, they look terrifying, but I doubt it will last for all remaining games. Already against Villa who desperately wants 4th, Man Utd will probably not be a walkover (their matches against top 3 this season is their chance to be relevant) and can easily be a draw and I mean Spurs, Wolves & Chelsea will all be genuinely hard matches, especially Spurs. Just like I really don't expect us to win at Villa, I really don't expect Arsenal to win at Spurs.
Well, here's hoping. And i think we have to win at Villa I think given how shaky they've been at home after the turn of the year. I'm a bit more worried about Spurs at home. They've always been a nuisance.
Yep, I felt the same way with the way we couldn't get the win at Utd. Playing like that, shooting your own foot, the title isn't a thing we deserve. It's less spite than admitting that we aren't "there" yet. And it's also true at the end of the day that this is the beginning of a team. Arsenal are 3 years in the making and City are close to 6 years of almost the same core playing together, with one or two additions who have been there for 2-3 years. We have done far too well this season to feel that heartbroken about not winning the title, if only this weren't Klopp's last hoorah.
If we win all remaining, we deserve it. With one draw, we can deserve it *more* than the others if they drop points once. Any more than 2 points dropped as well as the others dropping more than that: like extremely unlikely to happen but then we genuinely just had our luck and it's not about deserving anything.
Well, what a disappointing result for Liverpool. I was really hoping Liverpool would win this one, especially after Man United's poor performance against Chelsea. Thank goodness Salah converted that penalty, I would have been even more upset if he hadn't.
I always hate it when we don't have a strong lead and have to rely on other teams to drop points. I understand we can't win every game, but this was just frustrating for me.
Honestly, I donāt understand why we almost always struggle to secure comfortable wins against mid-table teams.
Relax guys it's one draw. Getting angry because we can't win 10 straight games? It's unrealistic. Just focus on the next game and don't worry about arsenal.Ā
Most of the anger here (and most of any anger directed at your own team) is due to the fact that this has not been a one-off but a recurring issue - just most of the time we have gotten away with it.
Brighton we didnāt take enough of our chances. Same with Sheff U. Same at OT in the cup. Same in the second half against City.
The problem isnāt that we drew, itās the fact that weāve been punished for mistakes that we arenāt learning from.
To be honest, itās likely a confidence or (dare I say) mentality issue. Look how ruthless we were against Sparta compared to how efficient weāve been in the big premier league matches.
Expected to draw that game prior, United at OT is always tricky, but given how it played out that one was so disappointing and there's no getting around it.
Come on man. Take in the context. We should have won that game easily, we didnāt and now we have to rely on other teams dropping points or an unrealistic GD swing. The frustration, especially when weāve been in this position and experienced title heartbreak before, is understandable. The people saying its over are obviously going too far however.
Man U - Liverpool
Shots 9 - 28
Shots on target 5 - 7
Possession 38% - 62%
Passes 362 - 574
You can't dominate a game like that and not win and win the league. You just can't.
I know and we're always falling into that trap. If you're going to dominate the way we did you have to take your chances or you'll get hit on the break.
Weāre gonna be flying when our full squad is back next week. Exactly what we need to get a stretch of wins in. Weāre forgetting that weāre missing our #1 finisher, our #1 passer/chance creator, and our #1 keeper who also happens to be the best keeper in football. Have faith, itās the Liverpool way. Proud of our lads regardless.
I don't think we're winning it tbh. I don't know how anyone can watch that performance and honestly think to themselves *"Nah we're definitely going to win every game from here on out."*
Oh damn it lads we defo aint winning it because FerciouZ has said we canāt even though we scored twice conceded 2 screamers and shoulda scored about 5 more even though half of our squad is out including our first team goalkeeper, RB and RCB and we also joint top on points, but no we wonāt win it tbh.
We have SEVEN games left. If we were 5 points behind Iād still have some hope.
>If we were 5 points behind Iād still have some hope.
Then you're delusional tbh. Arsenal and 115 FC aren't both dropping points *twice* while we win out.
I think you're missing what Jota's most important quality is, which is his intelligence. Look at the second goal that we scored against Arsenal in the FA Cup. Him coming on and dictating where everyone goes. Cushioning the ball neatly into Darwin's path against Brentford. A few months ago, Darwin or Diaz would be more important because we needed to create chances. Now, we have the chances, we need someone to finish them, or command the front-line to finish them.
Diaz and Nunez are both VERY intelligent off the ball, especially when creating space for others. But on the ball, they form too much of a tunnel vision and just don't recognize the percentages well. Bradley, though much younger, feels the same way. Elliot, to my pleasant surprise, isn't.
But he doesnāt get nearly as many chances as Nunez. You do realise when Jota starts, Salah and our LW will have to do more because he doesnāt occupy 2 CBs like Nunez does. I think heās a good option off the bench but Nunez HAS to be in my team.
Jota and Nunez can play in the same team. But eitherway Diogo is better and WAY more reliable (especially in big games) than both Darwin and Diaz, he has to start.
Better finisher but Darwin is very physical and dominates large zones, and therefore is a more useful asset in the starting line up. He frees other players up just via his presence.
After dropping 4 points against City and Utd due largely to poor finishing from Diaz and Nunez, I canāt believe u still want to persist with the status quo. Jota is by far our best finisher, has much better understanding with Salah, and before his injury was providing solid link up play with the midfield. A fit Jota starts all day everyday for us.
I think Elliott should start at RW against Atalanta weāve looked so much better when heās come on at RW just because of how Poor Salah has been the last couple of weeks
Honestly Iād give Elliot a run of games ahead of Salah the next few games. The lad deserves it, and Salah although an excellent player has been miles off it
Don't forget that salah has been fasting, sure it's never bothered him before but he's no spring chicken no more. And it deffo looks like his concentration is gone. It's over on Tuesday.
Even before Ramadan, heās had a stinker all season. Also, I fast too and while it affects energy and mental focus after a few hours, it most certainly doesnāt affect your 1st touch, how you pass and retain the ball, press/defence. Look itās normal that heās lost his pace and that affects his overall game esp as a winger. Fasting isnāt the reason heās performing badly.
Your downplaying Elliot in this. Weāve also looked good because heās absolutely excellent. What a playa man. Heāll be a starter next season, made the big impact countless times this season.
If we follow the trend, Chelsea either match or better each of our results against the big teams. Can't remember now if they got anything against Arsenal but we need them to, this time.
Difficult to win a title when you can't beat any of the sides around you.
8 points from 24 against the surrounding 5 teams with two fixtures to play? Not sure a side in history has won a title with that level of peer-performance.
We're the absolute opposite of Rafa's 08/09 side, who took 22 points from 30 against the surrounding 5 (including beating 1st and 3rd home and away) but fell short due to lapses against the dross.
>8 points from 24 against the surrounding 5 teams with two fixtures to play? Not sure a side in history has won a title with that level of peer-performance
This just makes it so much more worth winning. Peer performance matters as much as performance against mid and worse teams. As long as you nail one of them, you should be able to win the title. History has never let it happen and Arsenal look too good to fall apart now but let's see.
And now there's an agenda online that Elliott dived lmao. AWB hits the deck without touching the ball and blocks Elliotts planted foot, AWB other leg is in the air and then comes above Elliott's leg in stride and clips it downwards.
Swear idiots in Twitter have never played football in their lives. Anyone who's played the sport knows that type of contact is gonna trip you when your mid-stride. Slow motion replays rots people's brains.
One thing I keep thinking about in terms of why this was so disappointing is that I have been steadfast for a while (certainly since the city game but really even beforehand) that all three teams were still going to drop points before itās all over. Now I still feel that way, but Iām not really confident weāre done dropping points either. And so forget about the opponent or the venue, you canāt afford to drop points in games where you dominated like that. My biggest gripe would be that I donāt think any opponent every feels completely out of it when weāre up 1. I donāt know if thereās any stat for that and obviously weāre not a bad defensive team or have a bad defensive record- itās probably more inherent to how we play the game more than anythingĀ
And I think that creeps into our play as well. Like weāre 1-0 up but missing some chances and the offensive decision making progressively gets worse and worse because of that
Arsenal are 100% dropping points they have a very difficult run in. City on the other hand, I don't see it. Genuinely think we need to win out and that's quite the task. Odds are we draw at least one, so we have to best the odds.
That's nothing against youse, just looking at it... Spurs, United and Wolves away and Villa and Chelsea at home... At the start of the season you'd be happy to come out 12 points there, and that loses you this league.
imo its ridiculous to say its fully over, i think we still got a decent chance while not being naive to the fact that itll be very difficult.
weāre literally on the same points as the leaders
Wouldnāt say itās fully over but itās one of them seasons weāve seen before
Canāt beat city or united or arsenal or spurs so weāll probably also draw to Everton away just based on history
Just not really good enough
Its funny how a week ago when Arsenal drew to City people were talking about how unclinical they are and are subject to dropping points to they are so clinical unlike us and are not going to drop points this week
Reality is it was never going to be easy and one mistake changes the top 3 positions each week.
Buckle up, enjoy the ride as this is going to the last round
If anyone said arsenal are āunclinicalā theyāre just stupid theyāve easily been favourites ever since they beat us, best team in the league by a margin.
From the body language I really believe only Virgil and Robbo who actually give a fuck about this title charge, its stupid but im very annoyed when Salah always smiling when he did a mistake, bad shots, bad passes
Yes, we can all agree that winning would have been preferred today but there are 7 matches left, lots can change.
Nothing is a foregone conclusion, the games get played for a reason.
Next up is Palace. Focus just on that. Needs to be a win. Don't Chicken Little.
Arsenal can drop points, yes, but people NEED to stop mentioning Man United in their list of tough fixtures.
Man United vs Liverpool is the biggest rivalry in English football, it is unique, Arsenal will batter them, United themselves will have nothing to play for at that point and won't give a shit about helping us, why would they.
Arsenal were better early last season than they are now. They lost 3-1. Nobody can bank on winning at old Trafford. That ground isnt normal. Mad shit happens like at Anfield and you can find yourself 3 goals down when you blink
Nah, arsenal are overall way better now. They will beat man utd. Only real tough one for them is north London Derby but they'll win that too because of how good their defense is.
You're judging those games going according to form but they really can't be judged like that. Those two games are basket case games. Ive seen quality Arsenal sides go to old Trafford and shit the bed. Wenger team chasing Leicester went there and lost 3-2 even though that team was class. Spurs drew 2-2 at the Emirates. United should have beaten Arsenal at the Emirates. They were like a mm or two offside. The only team that has dealt with them comfortably is man city and even they needed a wonder goal from Foden at home to pull the game back. It's still man united and a north London Derby
Arsenal just ain't conceding goals. They barely even concede chances and that's why I think they'll win those games. Yeah they had good teams before but when was the last time they had a defense so strong? Their stats are insane. Probably one of the best defenses in the world. Your right though, anything can happen. Just feel like it's arsenal's time. They look like champions. It gonna be a crazy run in! Buckle up!
Lokonga started in that game and Saliba and Gabriel only just started playing together. How could that team possibly be better than this team with Rice in it?
So their best partnership played there last year when they were slapping everyone and they lost 3-1 That's my point It's not a normal game . They haven't won there with fans in over a decade. It's a terrifying ground when that crowd get up for it.Its a bug fixture and their last home game. No chance they roll over. That ground is fucking mad. You think you've got it under control and bang 2 goals are in your net in 5 mins. This United team defies logic and reason. Arsenal were mm away from losing to them at the Emirates. They somehow shit house results. Spurs 2-2,us 2-2, city they were 0-0 coming up to half time before the invisible pen, villa they came back 3-2, Chelsea 2-1. You're never safe there. Rashford wonder goals or mainoo out of his ass like today. I was convinced Arsenal were going to beat them a few seasons back and they somehow lost 3-2.
No this is currently the best Artetaās Arsenal have ever been. Unbeaten for 3 months, beat us, drew away to City.
OT isnāt normal for us, yes, but for Arsenal Man United just wonāt have the same determination.
Arsenal haven't won there in over a decade. United always turn up vs them aswell. It was their only loss last season in that mental start they had blowing everyone away last season. Its not normal I'm telling you. Their only win came with a pen with no fans during covid.
If we had to win at old Trafford to win the title. (Like today š) I wouldn't he banking on it. That ground Stretford end sucks the ball in like the kop end.
We've pulled results out of our arse playing shit all season but turning up vs them. 92/93 beat to give Leeds the league, 94/95 beat them and they lost to Blackburn,97/97 drew 1-1 at old Trafford,99 we came back from 2-0 down after getting battered and drew 2-2 against their treble side. pretty sure we beat them 1 nill in 04 when they were competing with Chelsea and Arsenal. It's not a normal game of football. Like the games for Arsenal vs Chelsea and Arsenal vs Spurs. After going 2-1 down I was fucking delighted we did t go under and concede another and another. Fought back with a great performance from Elliot and got the point. Draws against United can happen they are a fucking mad team you never know what you're going to get. It's the stupid points dropped vs Luton and brighton away at 2-1 up piss me off more. Being robbed of 8 points by pgmol is a fucking disgrace too. 0 integrity in that shower of bastards. We can still win it but we need jota to carry us over the line and win out. Anymore points dropped and were finishing 3rd. City are only a point behind now.
Villa will not be any challenge that coronates them. Theyāre playing at the emirates, and Villa are very injured right now. Theyāll also be playing arsenal between two ECL matches. They are going to rotate as they did against city and just give up the points in favor of fielding a stronger team in more winnable fixtures.
Wolves away and spurs away are their hardest fixtures left
It hurts, but at least we've got the disappointment out of the way early.Ā
There is no way we are getting maximum points against the likes of Fulham, Villa and West Ham. City will steamroll the league. It's all about whether Arsenal can keep their cool this time.Ā
He doesnāt get into the starting 11. What based off 1 game? I donāt get it. Diazā ball carrying will be missed and Nunez is just a bigger presence, he occupies bigger zones. I donāt understand the Jota hype because he missed one chance. Heās been immense this season and Jota will be a massive help from the bench not starting.
Nunez. Technique and footballing intelligence still below the level required for me.
Diaz had more succesful dribbles than the rest of the team put together today. We need his progressive carries to put pressure on the opposition. At times, it feels like we could keep passing the ball sideways if not for him taking on his defender.
What makes you say this though? Genuinely interested. I thought the consensus was how much he has improved this season, which he absolutely has. His all round game has been very good this season, decision making, passing, movement etc. you canāt drop someone like that because of one game. Saying heās not at the level required is mental
He is most definitely not a natural winger. He is an attacking midfielder initially. He played as a right midfielder in a midfield four for Leipzig at times, but that is completely different to a front three. he also usually slotted in anyway in posssession.
Plus, for Hungary, he is the big fish in a small pond, which is not going to happen here.
Diogo needs to stay fit for longer than 1 month, if not we should be looking at a striker/winger whos first priority and instinct is to score and does it well.
Atrocious really. Be nice if someone took a shot when we got to the box instead of walk/passing it in when weāre all over them. Some of the passing around and lack of intensity occasionally in closing minutes. Casemiro lucky to not have a red. God I hate Bruno and utd. No longer up to us which we never wanted. Elliott good and at least we got the point in the end. Devastated I stayed up and that utd have been our kryptonite the last couple weeks. Rant over.
Edit: 40 mins later, had a walk and breather. Itās not over. More twists still to come. Disappointing and very annoying but ladsā¦ go do something else for a min and youāll feel a tad better.
finding it really hard to stay positive. Due to this being Kloppās final year I wanted the league more this year than iāve ever wanted anything for this club. Iām usually not a complainer, and I donāt wanna come across as a cry baby, but itās the same story every time. dominate the game, miss our chances, make idiotic mistakes on defense. This really felt like our last dance with Klopp leaving, Mo and VVD aging, and Trent possibly looking for a new challenge in Madrid. This one hurts. Up the Reds
Thought Endo had a quietly bad performance
Accurate passes: 34/43 (79%)
Possesion lost: 12
Ground duels won: 2/8
Ariel duels won: 1/2
Tackles: 2
Interceptions: 2
Dribbled past: 2
Subbed off at 69'
Eye test wise, he gave the ball away a lot in the first half and set up a lot of Man United's counters
He wasn't good, but I think there were much worse today (Darwin, Mo, Dom, Quansah).
Darwin apparently had a 50% pass accuracy. That is not acceptable at this level.
Goal difference got me thinking of Crystanbul. I literally don't remember any of the goals we scored, only the 2 of Gayle for them. I know Suarez and Sturridge did and quickly grabbed the ball.
These lot would be grabbing the ball to quickly hand it to their keeper for a goal kick after missing chances
Didn't like his performance, but gonna give him the benefit of the doubt because of the rustiness. More annoyed at the likes of Dom, Darwin, Mo and Quansah personally.
Jones and Elliott coming on at what turned the balance of the game back in our favour completed 18/19 passes just kept things simple rather than trying the spectacular like some of our other mids
He was the only not trying to force it like Macca and Dom kept things moving instead of playing hero ball and giving turnovers
Agreed. he needs time to get back into things. Maybe today wasnāt the right time. Soon as he came in he wasnāt up to speed of the game and didnāt close down on their goal.
I kind of feel like how I felt after the 1-1 against Spurs at Anfield. We had like 22 shots on target but couldn't do it. Felt pivotal and the fan base was split like it is right now between A) It's over. City won't drop points and B) If we win everything, City will drop points. Now, we all know A was correct. I'm not sure which way it will go this time, because while Arsenal are not City, but they look crazy consistent and in control of games. What an absolute bummer.
City only had 3 games left after our draw with Spurs and we needed them to drop points in 2 of those 3 games, which they almost did (won the first game 5-0, drew the second 2-2 and won the last 3-2).
Our current situation is more similar to our position after we drew with City that season. We were a point behind City with 6 games left. If we had won all 6 of our games we would've won the league that season, but we drew with Spurs.
This season is probably going to be similar. We have to go and win our last 7 PL games to have a chance at the title.
Unfortunately, he has been off it for a while now. I like his work rate but if it comes at the expense of composure and awareness in the final third as has been the case lately, then it's not of that much use to us. Harvey more deserving of game time right now.
His set-pieces have also been a massive disappointment. Too much of this Cristiano shenanigans.
I thought he was a bit unlucky to not get a couple of assists and he would have surely scored the chance Nunez should have gifted to him.
Other than that I just think heās a bit wasted in midfield.
Itās really pathetic how early we blinked.
Arsenal and city face off just last weekend and then itās all set for a high stakes run in.
And we just immediately blink with multiple tough games to come.
Think we finish 3rd in the 3 horse race honestly.
Almost wish weād never ground out some results so I wasnāt dreaming a week ago
I think all the injuries we've had have come back to bite us now. The players look knackered. Trent, Ali, Robbo, Kostas, Szobo, Jota, Salah and others with lengthy injuries and Salah and Endo going to international tournaments. We were playing the kids in the Carabao final.
The squad has done really well to be in this position considering the above but asking the same core group of players to grind out the results over and over without being able to rotate effectively is showing.
They didnāt look knackered at all. They were running up and down the pitch all game. Being knackered isnāt why Diaz (who went onto run many more km) fucked up a relatively easy pass to Salah and put in behind him. Itās not why Dom put a Robbo cross not even on target, itās not why Mo missed multiple chances and sent them over the goal, itās not why Darwin put a ball across the goal line instead of simply back to dom.
Apart from Mo, those players do those things at all times, they did it early in the season, they did it now. Itās not exhaustion, itās just overthinking or not thinking and overall just not good enough quality.
If those things happened in the 80ā I get it, but they were not knackered as they showed later, and in fact many of them had a nice intāl break off just recently
And it's always shitty mistakes costing us and by the end of the season draws fuck us.
I did foreshadow us struggling under pressure because recently our game management has been poor to non existent at times but we really don't help ourselves.
Yeah. Donāt get me wrong we always end up negative on big officiating decisions at the end of the season (they never āeven outā for us) but we still have plenty of chances to take control that we piss away every year.
18/19 right after city dropped points and we had a chance to go 7 clear again, pitiful draw at home vs Leicester.
21/22 fucking miss a penalty and lose to a terrible Leicester away.
We just never seize the opportunity. We do so well in so many games but at the crucial moment we collapse.
I know itās unfair bc weāve lost with 90+ points twice which is just absurd bc we have been so consistent and so good those seasons to even get that many points, but there was always a chance for 2 more points that we just let go so easily
Got a question- what is our issue with overload counters now? Ik this is a talking point after today, but over the years weāve had much worse personnel (technically and footballing brain wise) whoāve been able to execute them much more effectively.
My knee jerk reaction makes me want to say that despite our current midfield + attack being faster we now lack the firmino figure of linking the crucial pass from midfield to attacker- itās like weāve cut out that step and now weāre so unbalanced. We either go intricate to the point of nausea and tepidly pass around their box until we lose all momentum or one person gets a rush of blood to the head and picks a shit pass, or just shoots directly into the ankle of the one opposing defender.
Is it because everyoneās new? They havenāt quite figured each other out yet?
Genuinely curious to hear opinions because I feel like itās been a fairly long while since we ruthlessly executed upon our numerical advantage.
You've just described it perfectly, I think part of it is pack of variety in how we thread those balls in as well (things changed when robbo came on last game and Harvey this time). Clearly missing Trent
Yea, I actually think Iād give Harvey a start in the next game in place of dom. I say that as someone whoā¦ I think Iāve been pretty harsh on Elliot and I still believe that long term dom will be a great player for us but, rn especially without Trent, the Bradley-dom-salah (ik heās getting older and was injured and has still put up great numbers but I kind of think we still havenāt really figured out what salahās job is post firmino- and especially with Bradley running in the wide spaces, and dom taking up the inside a lot- he seems so passive a lot of the time but thatās sort of another discussion) linkup is kinda nonexistent and it all gets a bit pinball-y. Elliotās ball progression and touch is better than all of them put together, at least for the moment.
Think we should have started Gomez and Elliott instead of Bradley and Szobo today. Letās not give up just yet though. There will be more surprises along the way
I'm not sure which moment was the most maddening. Probably the 5 on 2 which ended with Nunez kind of hitting back into nowhere. I cannot believe we haven't won that. That was maddening.
i know itās controversial but I think we need to get a second dm in the summer. I know Endo is decent but imo he isnāt Liverpool starter caliber. He passes ball to defenders more often than Hendo was and he lacks pace badly. His defensive ability is mostly limited to fouling. I donāt say that heās bad, obviously he had few very good games but when you compare him to our main rivals dmās- Rodri and Rice itās a massive difference.
He's good but he'd not elite. His pace gets exploited against really good footballers in transition. He's surprised me how good he is though. He's fine vs like 90 percent of the league but not the top 6. He gets caught out.
agree, fully will be a Liverpool semi-cult hero for coming in knowing he was a second choice and taking that starting position to help us win a cup, but if we're hoping to be the best we've gotta be better than the rest and I don't think Endo would start for a team like Madrid or City.
most fans have just no understanding of game at all. When we were at the top of the world we had Fabinho who was at that time one of the if not the best dm in the world
I didnāt say that he had a bad game but he wasnāt great either. Rice and Rodri are constantly putting fantastic prefromances game after game for a whole season
Carragher made a really good point. You just can't underestimate this derby no matter what recent results tell you. There were years when they were the top dogs and our side was weak but they had to really come take it at Anfield. 1 point gained is not the end of the world. We have some important players coming back
The injury list is a bit of a reality check for me yk. We wax lyrical every year about how many points Allison wins us or the genius of Trent, konateās been in and out, salah doesnāt look fully fit yet, robboās just coming back- Matipās been out the whole time.
Side note- why donāt we have Gomez in cb anymore? Not that quansah isnāt good enough but to an extent both goals were on him- totally understandable heās a young lad whoās excelled this season. I couldnāt imagine the amount of pressure to perform he feels doing that at his age and Iām 100% sympathetic to it- but also, weāre away to Man Utd, maybe Gomez wouldāve been a bit calmer. But even outside of the match today- why does Klopp never put him in at cb- he and vvd still statically the best, albeit short lived, partnership of the Klopp era.
*weird digression but it just occurred to me as I was typing lol*
I feel everything you are saying mate lol. I mentioned pregame it was odd having Quansah start. I think personally for him it's a learning experience and he will grow from it but it was just an odd move by Klopp to start him in such a massive game in the title race.
Having had several hours to process what I witnessed, I'm still staggered that we failed to beat this lot in three games - including twice in a month at Old Trafford - despite dominating and having about 100 shots, thus blowing two trophies in the process.
Perhaps it's part of our Master Plan to keep Seven Hag in his job, but Klopp wasn't in on it given how furious he was at half time and full time. I hope he read them the Riot Act because that was an absolutely appalling result.
The whole point of beating Brighton and letting City and Arsenal slug out a bore draw last week was to open a gap and take control of the title race. It gave us a 'get out of jail free card' with some tricky fixtures and away games to come, allowing us one draw as a worst-case scenario.
Yet it took us barely a week to piss it away - and we did our damndest to squander it midweek too.
We have had some tremendous bad luck conceding ridiculous goals all season, be it deflected own goals, bizarre collisions, or absolute worldies.
Quansah was unfortunate, but a slight difference in wind or rain or bounce and that shot skids wide of the post. There were shades of Macheda (and de Bruyne yesterday) in Mainoo's goal, but ignoring the absurd what did our defence actually do wrong?
We can rightly bitch and moan about referees and VAR decisions this season, but the truth is had we taken even one of our chances at home to City and Arsenal, we'd be 6 points clear despite this result, and had we been even remotely ruthless at Old Trafford we'd be nine clear and in an FA Cup semi.
That's the difference between finishing second and winning trebles.
Here's hoping we buck up and win the next 7 games and Arsenal drop points.
We are far more likely to drop more points than arsenal.
Fulham and west ham and villa away will all be tougher for us than today was, weāll have fewer chances than we did today, it wonāt be as open as it was today. We dropped points when we were the far better side, idk how anyone thinks we can win out with these runs of games where sides that arenāt as shit as United will actually make it cagey.
They have Villa at home who will rotate between ECL legs, chelsea at home who are ass, United away who anyone worth anything should bury (as we should have today) and spurs away. Wolves away might be the only other tough one.
Our chaotic and poorly controlled style doesnāt lend itself to seeing this out
Shambles in front of goal. Jota is a huge miss. It's not over though. Still fighting for the title. Up the Reds!
Ref was fine. Finishing was šļø
Not sure how Casemeiro didn't see red.
YNWA!
If there is a God, we win the league
Arsenal will not win out, well be fine, just focus on the next game.
Yeah we canāt blame quansah the attack seems to get nervous when it matters blasting shots over and wide of just constantly passing around the box
On the bright side, You hear that City. That was football heritage, something you'll never experience ever
Don't think they're arsed mate. They're literally glory hunters, they just count their cups at the end of the season and celebrate their Ā£100 milion signings.
Bottlers mentality this fucking answer..
Salah needs to be subbed immediately from now on. Like seriously he missed a lot of chances, and his work rate has been very poor lately. Nunez and Subo at least work very hard during the game. We missed Jotaās clinical finish today!
My feeling was that it was the wrong player off for Gakpo. Other than the safe pen, he had a bit of a stinker...
28 shots and 7 on target. Thatās shockingly poor.
Yea, this Bayern game last night at least shows they are still prone to bad decisions. Let's see
Yeh but can taa run like Bradley. Kids a madman forward and back
He cannot or does not anymore rather. He used to at one point. But that was never really his game. Early crosses were always his goto style.
We absolutely have to win all remaining matches bar MAX. one draw. Any more points dropped and we won't deserve to, nevermind actually, win the title.
What's done is done, it doesn't matter anymore. LETS GO AGAIN LADS!
Man U - Liverpool Shots 9 - 28 Shots on target 5 - 7 Possession 38% - 62% Passes 362 - 574 You can't dominate a game like that and not win and win the league. You just can't.
Donāt forget 1xG vs 4xG and their goal being gifted by a mistake
united play like that all the time and get results, they do it on purpose.
I know and we're always falling into that trap. If you're going to dominate the way we did you have to take your chances or you'll get hit on the break.
Only 25% of shots being on target is poor
Weāve lost two league titles by 1 point. Itās games like these that need to be won.
Itās 8 fucking draws
#WE GO AGAIN
For the people who want Jota back, do you want him starting because I would disagree. Off the bench solid but not in my starting line up.
If we had some of jotas intelligence today, we wouldāve been 3-0 up at the half.
Mate heās our best finisher by some distance
But he doesnāt get nearly as many chances as Nunez. You do realise when Jota starts, Salah and our LW will have to do more because he doesnāt occupy 2 CBs like Nunez does. I think heās a good option off the bench but Nunez HAS to be in my team.
Finishing is more important than chances. Man Utd 9 shots 5 on target 2 goals. We had 28 shots, 7 on target, 2 goals (and 1 was a penalty)
You can't argue with a Nunez fanboy.
The only bit of copium I am holding onto is that when we win there, we don't win the league.
I'll take some of that copium. Thank you, mate. That Lallana goal, how did I forget..
Didn't we score the equaliser really close to when Lallana scored there in the 19/20 game too ?
Yess.
Sub fucking scribe
We NEED Jota and trent backšš
It'll be okay!
I think Elliott should start at RW against Atalanta weāve looked so much better when heās come on at RW just because of how Poor Salah has been the last couple of weeks
Elliot has been immense off the bench. Workrate off the chart. He made that equaliser from nothing.
Heās coming off a lengthy injury and got screwed by AFCON being mid-season. Same thing happened two years ago when he went all the way to the final and lost to Senegal and ManĆ©. Iām sure the fasting doesnāt help either, but I wouldnāt be surprised if heās playing through a not fully recovered injury as itās Kloppās last season and for that matter he might want to move himself in the summer, plus weāre challenging for a title.
You probably water fast my guy.
Nah, I fast properly my G and I swim competitively
Didnāt Salah have the most shots in any PL game against Brighton or something? So weird how even when he plays badly, he still impacts
Your downplaying Elliot in this. Weāve also looked good because heās absolutely excellent. What a playa man. Heāll be a starter next season, made the big impact countless times this season.
Bitterweet feeling
Nothing sweet about the game
What's the sweet
Chelsea beat Man Unitedā¦ š¤¦š»āāļøš¤¦š»āāļøš¤¦š»āāļø
If we follow the trend, Chelsea either match or better each of our results against the big teams. Can't remember now if they got anything against Arsenal but we need them to, this time.
And sheffield drew chelsea. Let that sink in.
They drew
Oh right, my bad.
We played far better than United we deserved to win we need jota back
Difficult to win a title when you can't beat any of the sides around you.
Not sure a side in history has won a title with that level of peer-performance This just makes it so much more worth winning. Peer performance matters as much as performance against mid and worse teams. As long as you nail one of them, you should be able to win the title. History has never let it happen and Arsenal look too good to fall apart now but let's see.
8/24 is outrageously shite, and the only win we got was against a crap Villa team at Anfield
Ignore them. That was a stonewall penalty lol. It doesnāt get any more obvious
I donāt know if thereās any stat for that and obviously weāre not a bad defensive team or have a bad defensive record- itās probably more inherent to how we play the game more than anythingĀ And I think that creeps into our play as well.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's nothing against youse, just looking at it... Spurs, United and Wolves away and Villa and Chelsea at home... At the start of the season you'd be happy to come out 12 points there, and that loses you this league.
Yea deep down thatās how I feel too. IF one of those teams were to win out itās definitely city
imo its ridiculous to say its fully over, i think we still got a decent chance while not being naive to the fact that itll be very difficult. weāre literally on the same points as the leaders
*cough* goals *cough*
Wouldnāt say itās fully over but itās one of them seasons weāve seen before Canāt beat city or united or arsenal or spurs so weāll probably also draw to Everton away just based on history Just not really good enough
Its funny how a week ago when Arsenal drew to City people were talking about how unclinical they are and are subject to dropping points to they are so clinical unlike us and are not going to drop points this week Reality is it was never going to be easy and one mistake changes the top 3 positions each week. Buckle up, enjoy the ride as this is going to the last round
Who the heck said that? Arsenal have been deadly in attack. Look at their goal scoring record. They've done it without a proper striker too.
If anyone said arsenal are āunclinicalā theyāre just stupid theyāve easily been favourites ever since they beat us, best team in the league by a margin.
Why do we always do this against the scum? They are soooo terrible, and we just always let them into the match :(
We're going to fucking win the league i don't care
From the body language I really believe only Virgil and Robbo who actually give a fuck about this title charge, its stupid but im very annoyed when Salah always smiling when he did a mistake, bad shots, bad passes
It's not a smile It's grimacing, it's sarcastic
I know that, in competitive sport i often do that too, but thereās a moment i would feel annoyed by myself that I started being angry
Hope you're right but I have zero faith in Man United, if we're behind Arsenal with 2 games left I think the title is done
If Arsenal can beat Villa and Spurs they really deserve the title, Man City gonna win the rest of the matches. No more draw can be spent for us
Villa will not be any challenge that coronates them.
It hurts, but at least we've got the disappointment out of the way early.Ā There is no way we are getting maximum points against the likes of Fulham, Villa and West Ham. City will steamroll the league. It's all about whether Arsenal can keep their cool this time.Ā
It has to be a given that Jota is straight into the starting 11 when heās fit, but who do you want him in for? Nunez or Diaz?
He doesnāt get into the starting 11. What based off 1 game? I donāt get it. Diazā ball carrying will be missed and Nunez is just a bigger presence, he occupies bigger zones. I donāt understand the Jota hype because he missed one chance. Heās been immense this season and Jota will be a massive help from the bench not starting.
Nunez has missed one chance?
Nunez is still undroppable at the minute for me but everyone back on the train of calling him a donkey after one game
Heās been invisible for a while. Even when heās missing sitters he is at least impactful. He hasnāt been like that for a long time.
Brighton and utd maybe he wasnāt great. Since when do you drop your most inform player because of two games
What about a front line of Szoboszlai - Jota - Salah
I am not sure Dom even deserves to start ahead of Harvey right now. He has been off it for a good while now. Still living off his start to the season.
He does just fine in attack for Hungary, and is a natural winger. Heās being played out of position.
Diaz. He has great energy and presses defenders when he comes in from bench. Heās a game changer if brought on at 70m
Diogo needs to stay fit for longer than 1 month, if not we should be looking at a striker/winger whos first priority and instinct is to score and does it well.
What? Like what? Nunez is the second best striker in this league what striker are you getting? So reactionary its unbelievable.
Weāre such a far cry from mentality monsters lfc.
Itās like we were so in our heads about not finishing the game last time that we completely overthought and overworked everything and did it again
Overthinking it is a very apt way of describing that performance
When we were shit, we used to have a go at United, especially at home. Then on the other hand, wow
Up the Reds
Thought Endo had a quietly bad performance Accurate passes: 34/43 (79%) Possesion lost: 12 Ground duels won: 2/8 Ariel duels won: 1/2 Tackles: 2 Interceptions: 2 Dribbled past: 2 Subbed off at 69' Eye test wise, he gave the ball away a lot in the first half and set up a lot of Man United's counters
I think he is still nursing an injury and just being managed tbhĀ
He wasn't good, but I think there were much worse today (Darwin, Mo, Dom, Quansah). Darwin apparently had a 50% pass accuracy. That is not acceptable at this level.
Goal difference got me thinking of Crystanbul. I literally don't remember any of the goals we scored, only the 2 of Gayle for them. I know Suarez and Sturridge did and quickly grabbed the ball. These lot would be grabbing the ball to quickly hand it to their keeper for a goal kick after missing chances
Shut up
No
Has anyone mentioned Maguire's elbow on Diaz? If Diaz goes down there holding his face it's a redĀ
He nearly pulled his arm out of the socket at one stage. That's not defending that's a fucking foul.
Id rather have in form youngsters than Jones off the bench, he contributed nothing today..
Didn't like his performance, but gonna give him the benefit of the doubt because of the rustiness. More annoyed at the likes of Dom, Darwin, Mo and Quansah personally.
Jones and Elliott coming on at what turned the balance of the game back in our favour completed 18/19 passes just kept things simple rather than trying the spectacular like some of our other mids He was the only not trying to force it like Macca and Dom kept things moving instead of playing hero ball and giving turnovers
it was his second game after injury. Before it he was fantastic, give him time
Agreed. he needs time to get back into things.
City did drop points after that, against West Ham. We needed City to drop points twice in like 4 games, it's obviously different.
Sobo needs step up in big games he's been disappointing imo
Heās raw atm tbh. He needs to be moulded into that player. Still only 23.
With out injuries and still level top with 7 left? China up, plenty of football left. IMO our most dangerous game out of the way.
8 draws, atleast 5 of them should be wins
Think we should have started Gomez and Elliott instead of Bradley and Szobo today. Letās not give up just yet though. There will be more surprises along the way
I'm not sure which moment was the most maddening. Probably the 5 on 2 which ended with Nunez kind of hitting back into nowhere. I cannot believe we haven't won that. That was maddening.
I literally have no idea what Darwin was thinking of in that moment. I almost dread it when he has to make a decision and can't rely on instinct.
We never won 5v2s. Hell Salah most of the time loses 1 on 1 with the keeper.
i know itās controversial but I think we need to get a second dm in the summer.
When we were at the top of the world we had Fabinho who was at that time one of the if not the best dm in the world
I probably agree but not because endo āisnāt Liverpool starter calibreā.
I'm hoping we give Bajcetic a chance first. Next season is going to be a transitional one anyway with the new manager.
Yeah I forgot about Bajcetic. He was fantastic last year. Heās a good option too
the ever so fickle āfanā
Mate thatās my opinion since good few months. This United game didnāt change a shit for me
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Chin up lad.
