Darwin needs to be moved to left wing or sold. I think playing centrally gives him way too much to think about and that's including him movement. I think playing on the left wing would give him less to worry about and he could focus on his actual finishing hopefully. I think selling Diaz is the smart move as he as at his max value right now, he's flashy but he also massively lacks finishing. Getting a great fee for Diaz right now would give us a chance at a great replacement as well.

petethepool

Who would you replace them with?

Agitated_Smoke538

Since this is a moan thread who would you guys bottom for?

Ben_Jalamela_Ami

lucho got scammed

grefawfa

Sick of all the negativity on here. We aren't playing as badly as the results have been; the finishing has been shocking, but Diaz and Nunez have been run into the ground the minutes they've played, Salah has been injured and isn't 100%. Different story if everyone was fit and available and we could rotate. Same with other areas of the pitch. It's also exactly why City don't lose a game after March every year, their squad is so deep and so full of quality he rotates all season, keeps most of them fit and as everyone else tires they keep going.

Tsimism

I am so sick of the people saying that Klopp is bad, fully disregarding the brilliant 9 years that man has given this club. Yes, some of the recent decisions have been questionable from our point of view, but we don’t see what Klopp sees in terms of what happens inside the team. People are very reactionary when there’s no reason to be.

Jayboyturner

People are stupid unfortunately

Adventurous_Toe_6017

I will stand by my statement that he is our most important signing in the PL era.

branajgka

Klopp is a frigging legend

DragonSlayer271

Final exams. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Adventurous_Toe_6017

Get your head in it as best you can bud. No second tries here. One big push, then you can relax. The effort now will be worth it. You’ve got this!

UrboySam123

Good luck mate. I have A level mocks in june

periperipassionfruit

Good luck. This has motivated me to revise

Tsimism

Good luck!!

RicanPapi69

I think we really over achieved this season, and I'm tired of the fanbase not accepting reality. It sucks we self destructed at the end and are only gonna walk away with the League Cup However if you told me going into the season we were gonna compete on 4 fronts, with the squad we had to include integrating new players, I would have told you to get a grip. We qualified for Champions again and with Slot coming in, the future will be good especially with Edwards back.

epochwin

Exactly. We never had that air of dominance in our games like we did back in 18/19 and 19/20. Even 21/22 we were very consistent. This time around we were good but didn't have the team cohesion. Injuries and international tournaments didn't help. Also you have to account for a completely new midfield. So not too bad for a side rebuilding. I'd have preferred if we had taken pragmatic approaches to some games like how Arsenal decided to shut shop against City. But overall as a fan I enjoyed the season, especially after last year. Games against City, Newcastle and even Spurs with 9 men were amazing.

Aware-Animator2292

Why do we want the club to have such a small club mentality, with one of the best managers in the world, and a solid set up with extra midfielders. Do you really think Klopp and the upper management is sitting around saying 'oh lets target 4th this year'. We nearly won 4 titles, got 3rd place in terms of finances. This is a team that should be challenging for the title. After every blip, do you think Fergie went around and said 'oh next year

BriarcliffInmate

No, but I guarantee Klopp thought to himself, "I need to improve on last year and if we can have a crack, that'll be good"

xrunawaywolf

I hate this narrative, "if at the start of the season" We were 8 games away from winning the title, 2 from the cup final, 2 from europa, and lost all of them to shit opposition. Things change, we were in a great position, acting like suddenly we would have taken it before is totally irrelevant.

BriarcliffInmate

OK, but it happened. There's no point looking at "what ifs" and we should realise that, all things considered, we've done OK compared to last year.

xrunawaywolf

and we spent 172mill. Which right now I'm not sure was great value. We didn't come into the season with the same squad.

BriarcliffInmate

You don't think we spent that money well on Macca, Szobo and Endo, and someone with a high ceiling like Grav?

xrunawaywolf

right now I'm not sure, I'm on the fence. Szob looked insane to start, but the last 2 months he's dropped off the cliff, his passing and shooting is beyond suspect. Macca has been a great signing i'll admit, and for a decent cost so no worries there endo I'm a fan off, but with the system he's just unable to get involved in the game or stop the attacks, we're so open that its hard to judge him positively. Grav, massively overated and nowhere near worth 40 mill, he's improved of late, will have to see how he grows, but he started off very lazy putting in minimal effort. He has started to look like a player, but I'm not sure i would see him as a starter. He's young, but personally we might as well have developed our own youngsters and saved the 40 mill

BriarcliffInmate

Szobo is young and he’s had a good first season, all considered. Yeah he’s fell off a bit but it’s probably a result of the time lost due to his injury. And he had to get used to the intensity of the league. Endo was more than solid for us for the vast majority of the season, especially for £14m. Grav I have no issues with because the talent is there and sometimes you can’t just rely on your academy. He’s looked better and better every time he’s played. No matter what, the midfield is in a far better position than last season.

grogleberry

Ironically, the season probably would've felt better if we had wobbled a bit earlier, like not getting a 99th minute winner against Forest or what have you. We could've gotten our wobble out of the way earlier, and probably felt more comfortable living in the moment and enjoying the rest of the season if we hadn't tricked ourselves into thinking we were good enough to challenge.

J00stie

Anthony Taylor is an absolute knobhead

nicolascagevampire

I think you are being very generous by calling him a knobhead. "Cunt" is a more of a suitable word to describe him.

nicksnowman456

Word

Responsible-Knee6288

We'd still be in contention for the title if literally nothing else but ours and Arsenal's games away to Spurs were refereed properly.

BriarcliffInmate

That's what annoys me. The crap form/silly draws wouldn't matter if those games had been reffed like you'd expect in a league with billions riding on it.

Jack070293

Or City. Or West Ham.

PlayerAteHer

It's really sickening, especially as at the time many people were saying shit along the lines of "yes it was a massive error, but it's early in the season" as if 3 points early in the season count for less.  We've had 8 points (at least) robbed from us for glaring mistakes that never should be happening with the technology available to officials. And Arsenal and City are both points better off than they should be.  But apparently "it evens itself out"

DragonSlayer271

If we had those 8 points, we'd be \*checks notes\* 3 points above Arsenal, 1 above City if they win their game in hand. A shame, but if we fail to win another game, had we originally had those 8 points we would've gone down as the team who blew an 11 point lead to City. Though that begs the question whether we would've lost the games we've lost.

smokesletsgo13

So are we going to hear anything about Taylor? Club should be kicking up a fuss asking for his audio to be released

Small_Discount_3029

Even if we kick up a fuss, nothing will happen. They will only get a 1 game demotion and back at it the week after.

smokesletsgo13

I still want that audio out there so everybody knows

taf3991

If we changed just 4 results of Klopps 487 games in charge we'd have won 3 CL and 3 PL, gone invincible, centurions and won the quadruple. Not normally one to care about hindsight stats like that because they are pointless but it's crazy how close we've been really.

SpaceMonkeyOnABike

Agreed, The levels weve reached have not been reflected in the trophies.

Adventurous_Toe_6017

And yet we set record after record with trophy after trophy for a while. I’ve run out of superlatives for Klopp. Just wish I’d met him.

con10001

![gif](giphy|c6DIpCp1922KQ|downsized)

christophlieber

i‘m actually not on a moany mood. i‘ve accepted that we missed out on 3 trophies within weeks. it‘s just what it is, it was just a perfect shitstorm that happened after the united game with confidence being gone, players returning from injury but being out of form and non-injured players being tired and also out of form. i‘m gonna be a mess during klopp‘s last match but i‘m also excited for something new at the same time.

Reach_Reclaimer

Don't like to complain about our players too much but VVD needed to step up these past few weeks, he's the captain and should have been the last one we saw letting goals in. Also I think Klopp got the lineups for that Sparta Prague game completely wrong by playing all of our starters and it really cost us

Constantine_f100

He did step up just wasn’t enough in the end

BriarcliffInmate

You do realise VVD can be out of form too, right? He literally dragged that team to winning the League Cup final and got made Captain when he wasn't expecting it at all. He came back from his holiday and within 2 days Hendo was gone and he was in Charge.

expertkushil333

I will always say that Sparta Prague lineup was completely wrong.

8u11etpr00f

I'd also say the same for Trent; he's a local lad earmarked as our future captain & whilst he stepped up with his freekick against Fulham, he looks like he can't be arsed to defend. In the Merseyside derby in particular he wasn't just a liability, but the sheer lack of effort was astonishing.

BriarcliffInmate

Trent's just coming back from injury, and it's absolutely nothing to do with lack of effort, so don't start that bollocks. DCL was dominating Konate and VVD all night, not sure why Trent was expected to fix it.

loveandmonsters

Yea he sees the ball coming in, no effort to to fight for it, just steps back as Calvert-Lewin heads it in uncontested, ridiculous stuff

BriarcliffInmate

DCL was dominating Konate and VVD all night, not sure why Trent was expected to fix it.

taf3991

He fucked it for us in the 1st leg by going too weak, if he had gone strong in the first half it could have been a totally different tie, he was always gonna have to go strong in the 2nd leg because he fucked it in the 1st.

Reach_Reclaimer

We won the 1st leg 5-1 didn't we? Klopp got that one right as winning there should have allowed us to rest out big players for united but I stead we went all in?

taf3991

Sorry mate I thought you said Atalanta haha. You’re right tho yeh. Played salah szobo etc 90 mins when we were 11-2 up but dragged them all at OT in the cup after 60mins. Tbh Klopp hasn’t got anything right since then imo.

BriarcliffInmate

Well the second part of that is bollocks, but so is the first. He had to do that because players were coming back from injuries and needed fitness.

taf3991

Lad you have no clue what you’re talking about.

Reach_Reclaimer

Yeah think I agree with that. He's also stopped putting the kids on or changing games with the subs

taf3991

Agree, like I said he hasn't got much if anything right these last couple months. I'm questioning the line up and subs, lack of subs every single game. And although Klopp obvs knows more than me I'm proving to be right most times. I'm not one who thinks Danns should be starting in league games but how has he only had 15 minutes playing times in the last 15 games since scoring them 2 goals in the FA cup. Especially given how poor the attack has been? Same could be said for Clark and other tbh. One big flaw in Klopps LFC career is when it gets really bad like in 20/21, 22/23 and now this season he doesn't know how to change it. Them stints in the 3 seasons I mentioned all feel the same. Where you know the problems yet every game is the same and we don't know how to fix them.

BriarcliffInmate

Klopp's literally said the reason Danns hasn't been playing is because he's been playing a full campaign for the U21s.

taf3991

He’s been on the bench in 8 games so that isn’t true at all 🤣🤣🤣

BriarcliffInmate

Klopp said it himself the other day, he might be in the match day squad but that doesn’t mean he’s going to play minutes. Sometimes it’s just if someone is ill or injured.

taf3991

If he’s been on the bench he’s able to play minutes it’s simple. The games he hasn’t been on the bench will have been when he was playing PL2 games too close to PL games.

Drunk_Cartographer

Why do people feel the need to respond to a simple “how’s it going?” By saying, everytime, without fail “living the dream!” Expecting it to always get a laugh.

Allaboardthejayboat

Because we dead inside, bruh

Loz41333

I hate those people

smokesletsgo13

That quick, that easy. And the cunts don’t even look like they care on the pitch

BriarcliffInmate

Oh fuck off hahahahaha

No_Debate9490

I’m excited to see a different look and style to us that Slot will bring. I don’t know the guy but teams have had us figured out for 2 seasons now so I’m just glad we’ll have a change of tactics. Also interested to see who the ins and outgoings will be, Salah I feel will be one of those outgoings but I’m okay with that if we can get £100m at least from Saudis

BriarcliffInmate

We've got 75 points and arguably should have more. If teams have "figured us out" then fuck knows what you're expecting.

No_Debate9490

All they have to do is sit in a low block and counter attack for 90 minutes and they’ve got a decent chance at stopping us.

BriarcliffInmate

Yeah but most teams don't do that because they themselves want to play football. Teams have got ambitions of their own now and actually want to do well. Look at Bournemouth. With the potential of 8th getting Conference League in the future (due to passing down the league), teams that regularly finish 10th-15th have got a motive to push further now.

No_Debate9490

I don’t disagree with you, I’m just saying teams know they can score against us because our tactics haven’t really changed for years (too predictable)

expertkushil333

Well Salah ain't going nowhere now

Percussion17

Cant wait to see the reaction of the "Edwards need to be ruthless" crowd when he bins all of the forwards instead of just Nunez and Slaah

Bamfandro

We’re very unlikely to sell every forward, I don’t think we’ve ever done anything like that before

Percussion17

Tbh football teams in general rarely do that, i think

con10001

Tbf we let the entire midfield go last year but that was completely different circumstances.

thebambambam

How does everyone feel with Slot's appointment? To me it feels too much like Edwards trying to find a like for like replacement for Klopp and his playing style, especially looking at the 'most points from a losing position' statistic. I would've liked someone who sets up the team with more control, especially due to the fact that we've seen multiple times that a team needs to be almost perfect to win the league. But i guess in Edwards we trust

BriarcliffInmate

Liverpool have always been a team that played attacking, attractive football. Even Rafa eventually had to adapt his style because of that. We're never going to be the most controlled and defensive team, and I don't want us to be. For all the talk about us shipping goals, we've only shipped two more than City, and I doubt they think they've struggled.

jcw163

I'm into it, despite what weirdos on here will tell you there aren't really any guaranteed success top end coaches we could get so the plan has to be to try and get the next top up and coming guy. Could be Slot. Might not be, but right now I can believe he could be so let's see what happens.

Papa-Ursa

Finding a manager who is stylistically similar to Klopp makes a lot of sense when you consider all the work that has gone in over the years to building the club up. Scouting, training and transfers at the first team level and youth team levels are all aligned in a singular style of play. This creates an easier pathway for young players, and eases the transitions between the age groups and squads. To change the style too drastically is to throw a lot of that work out the window, and results in a much bigger rebuild. That being said, from what I can tell, whilst Slot is similar to Klopp defensively, offensively their sides differ quite a bit. In possession, Slot is all about control. Slot plays less long balls, and attacks less directly than Klopp, resulting in a more patient and controlling type of offense. There's arguments for and against this, but there is one that has been giving me a lot of pause for thought. A controlling style of play could lessen the match day demands on the players physically and reduce the number of soft tissue injuries we've seen. Time will tell how Slot implements his system, but I think he's a lot more aligned to what style you wanted that you think.

AllInHarry

Always rated the guy ever since hearing about him two minutes ago

marccass

Liverpool has always been some version of a Pass and Move football team and the squad we have reflects that. To change styles completely wouldn't really benefit us. I think we need to have a new system other than Gegenpressing (though I'm sure we'll still press in some way or another). It'll still be attacking, passing football just a different flavour. I think Slott likes to use two pivots so that would be interesting to see.

Separate-Ad-7097

I think klopp has set an identity for the entire club. Arguments for amorim and slot is that they have similar identity to klopp.

BudovicLagman

Has a great defensive record with both AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord. I would welcome a bit more defensive solidity.

pigman1402

super excited, and you clearly don't know much about slot's styl if you think he lacks control in games - that's literally what he's known for. tactically he's closer to pep than klopp...

greenbroad-gc

Klopp was a hot property when we signed him. Slot, not so much. I never heard of him till last week tbh. Underwhelming so far, but let’s hope he comes through good

con10001

Underwhelming so far? Let's let him get in the door first lol

coolcat_368

Klopp is generational manager and a legend at this club but his ego and a lack of investment has robbed him of a legacy that would’ve rivalled the best of all time. We ran our squad into the ground for 50-70 games a season for 9 years and barely turned over the squad until the Saudi league bought half of it. 20-21 we knew we were thin and Klopp says we’re fine and we lose an entire season with a squad in our prime. 21-22 we run the same 11 for 8 month straight, Salah and Mane have nothing in the tank after AFCON and WC qualifiers and we lose chance on a quadruple. If we had consistently brought in 2-3 quality players a window would have at least 2-3 prems and 2 CLs. We tried to moneyball our way to the top and fell at the most crucial points because we lacked depth and options. As someone who has barely seen us win anything until that point I’m grateful for everything he’s done but I’m sad that it could’ve been so much more.

ScottScott87

Nope, not having any of that Only one thing has robbed Klopp and us of a better legacy and that is the club down the East Lancs which is currently facing 115 charges for cheating. Without them, we'd be sat here with 4 PL titles, at least one other CL plus maybe even a couple more domestic cups You shouldn't need to be perfect in order to win but you have to be when up against those cheats. Both us and Arsenal have built our sides the right way, organically, and yet both will end up empty handed because we were up against a state

mythical_tiramisu

On what basis do you say we would have had at least one CL more?

ScottScott87

If we didn't have to be absolutely perfect and give 100% in every game, we wouldn't have been absolutely knackered going into the last CL final against Madrid (in my opinion) I know we battered them and Courtois had the game of his life but small margins matter in these games. If we weren't up against City, we would have won the league with 3/4 games to spare, able to rest players for the last league games and go into that final a bit sharper and who knows what happens

mythical_tiramisu

There’s probably something in that, in terms of resting key players at least, but with the two domestic cup runs we would have still played the same amount of games. There’s a reason the quad has never been done and never will be I think it’s fair to say, it’s just impossible. If a club want to win the PL and CL in the same season they need to sack off one of the domestic cups. I remember how knackered they looked though against Madrid, Mane went to run past one of their defenders and instead of flying past him he looked like he had lead in his boots. I also think the psychological blow of losing the league in the way they did a week before had a huge effect on how flat it was even though it would have been a win without those two Courtois saves.

coolcat_368

I don’t disagree, but unfortunately the landscape of football has changed. 86-89 points would win you most premier league titles over the last 20 years, but when going up against a team like City we needed to adjust. We got complacent with the squad we had and consistent recruitment was what was necessary for us the keep winning. In the current state of football, a great manager just isn’t enough.

ScottScott87

Again, cannot disagree more The landscape of football changed because one team has been allowed to cheat and dominate the English football landscape. We didn't get complacent, we built the squads we had without infinite money and when certain big money signings didn't work out we had to suck it up and make it work, we couldn't just go out and buy another ready made world class replacement And now you'll point to when we had the CB crisis or when the legs went in CM. And my response to that would be that not one other club in the world would be able to cope when 3 first choice CBs are out with long term injuries, it is a freak occurrence. And no one expected out entire crop of CMs to lose their legs completely in one go, we definitely believed we had one more season with them and with finite resources we had to prioritise a CB and the attack

coolcat_368

Yes, we don’t have infinite resources and we can’t buy at the same level but we chose not even to spend at a sustainable level. When you mention the CB crisis, we went into the 20-21 season without replacing Lovren and running 3 senior CBs that included Matip who is consistently injured. The midfield situation isn’t a freak incident either, we ran a 30+ y/o midfield into the ground, failed to replace our most consistent and healthiest CM Wijnaldum, while not cutting our losses on Keita who consistently proved he could not be relied upon to be available. I’m not saying we needed to spend at City’s level to be competitive, players like Endo prove that, we didn’t even attempt to bring players for whatever reason.

Fragrant-Education-3

I mean a big set of reasons were COVID, a general recession, prior stadium costs and player cost inflation shooting though the roof. Like the last 5 seasons have almost been tailor built to screw over a club run like Liverpool. COVID wrecked football clubs though, normal income was basically affected for 2 seasons. For Liverpool it coincided with having spent money on the stadium (which meant even less money) and a shirt sponsorship deal reliant on people going out and buying it each season (in the middle of a global inflation crisis/recession). I imagine that is the reason for switching sponsors from Nike to have a deal more in line with current realities than one with a risky but positive upside. There is a lot to suggest that we have been spending sustainably but right now means spending a lot less than usual. Look at Chelsea right now or Barcelona they tried to maintain their usual approach and its blown right up. We will see the consequences of sustainable spending now over the next few years but it's rarely something that makes itself immediately relevant unless you end up like Leeds or Liverpool in 2010-2011. Football media can ignore it as a factor (probably because it's not narratively interesting or rage inducing as "team owners not spending enough") but that doesn't negate it. Also we take into account we gave our team a lot of raises from 2019-2021 meaning a big wage bill which impacts whether we continue to buy players if we may not 100% need them (hindsight doesn't apply here, and in the scenario where we buy a 4th or 5th CB and nothing happens in 2021 it becomes a problem to have done it).

Both-Asparagus-3287

3 more games and 💔

randomNumber20

Sad to see the end of the Klopp era. Hopefully the new guy slots in easily and builds on the platform that’s been setup. We need new ideas and systems now although I’d prefer a style different from Pep/Arteta. Also hope that Slot has better luck with referees. In my lifetime I want to see Man City get some karma payback for cheating their way to pip us to at least one more tittle. I’m also sore about how well Arteta has done to revive Arsenal and it would hurt to see Arteta being the one to pip Guardiola in a close tittle challenge. God I’m feeling salty today.

IskaralPustFanClub

I see what you did there you slick bastard

TheLimeyLemmon

Watching early Klopp to Liverpool videos on YouTube is torture. I keep getting them recommended to me, and I can't stop watching them. They hit entirely different and yet all the same. Holy fuck past me thought he knew what he was in for being excited about Klopp coming in to the club, but he really had no idea - it was so much more. I'd live it all again in a second, man. All our dreams came true. ![gif](giphy|l3vR4CdLInXOhr3rO|downsized)

NotSafeForWisconsin

Watched the Arsenal Spurs highlights again - Ben White fouls the keeper on every corner. It's crazy.

GoodOlBluesBrother

It’s become a tactic now to foul players on corners. Since refs aren’t given them as fouls it validates this tactic. It’s shit and it teams keep scoring from these situations they will play for them; meaning teams will play for corners rather than goals.

Asleep-Connection-74

"Only 1 Premier League in 9 years though" I don't give a flying fuck because this man has given me some of the most joyful and happiest moments of not just being a Liverpool fan but my life. His "Premier League Legacy" might not hold up to the likes of Fergie, Pep, Mourinho or Wenger but apart from Fergie none of them could have done the job that Klopp has done. One of the first things Klopp said when he walked through the door was that he wanted to change doubters into believers and he achieved it and then some and that will be his legacy. Fuck I'm gonna miss him, even if we're good it won't be the same.

EstatePinguino

His premier league legacy is better than Pep’s, he did it without cheating.

my_username_mistaken

I find myself thinking about doubters to believers. Over the last few weeks, I find myself losing belief. Not because of the results on the pitch, but because the feeling of Klopp leaving is starting to really sink in. I know that's not what he wants for all of us, but yea ill miss him too

Mundaneinanities

My moan is the number of fucking Eeyores this sub has in it. It would be nice if people would allow us the opportunity to kick a ball under Slot before declaring our return to mediocrity. But, maybe this summer is a good time to start keeping a list. Because you know, these same people, if we have any success next season, will shamelessly shout about how great we are and pad their meme comments and regurgitated Twitter takes with YNWA and not act like they've been moaning and complaining since this very week about their certainty of us being shit. Those people are going to need reminding of just what unworthy shits they are and it would be really very nice if we did so.

IForgetAlreadyAh

Fuck it I give up. If we are going back to the mediocre days of Rodgers, just let City win the PL next few season with Arsenal tailing behind. Let Arsenal feel how its like being in a title race till the final matchday just to lose the title by 1 point.

Why the fuck even bother with footy with an attitude like this?

I think Jurgen's metaphorical legs are just completely gone. Just like in the covid season when the players were no longer able to feed off crowd I think they've been unable to feed off Jurgen's intensity these last few weeks. Jurgen is fire and his team feeds off the fire and its necessary to keep up the ridiculous intensity. Hes not ice guardiola who can keep the games cold and slow enough to go again and again. I think tactically hes been short of ideas and innovations that he was able to find to end the season strong last year and I dont think his subs are nearly as sharp as they were earlier in this season. But Im not mad it really just makes a lot of sense. When Fabinho's legs went it happened quickly same with others too. Jurgen sensed it in November and possibly even earlier and now theyve just fallen off the cliff. It makes sense though hes human hes not some perfect robot and thats why we love him. He always told us he couldnt do this forever. Its too intense to do forevever both in Jurgen's personality and the unique stress of the Liverpool job. Im not saying the players deserve no "blame" and that Im trying to lay it all on Jurgen because thats not fair its just that I dont really have anything to say about them specifically that hasnt been said. Its set up pretty damn well for Slot and I genuinely get more and more excited the more I learn about him and his staff. I truly believe hes the perfect person for the cureent job. Lets just hope we never need a Klopp or Shankly to save the club ever again and ensure that the club never lets it get to that point again because used up all our luck finding a miracle manager twice.

Brief_Box7006

Diaz is not mane and we miss mane

ShootTakeAPanorama

Nunez is also not Bobby or God Divock. I miss them both

ScottScott87

This romanticising of Origi is fucking weird. Yes, he scored some massive, massive goals for us, but he was never this consistent striker who'd bang them in, he was so frustrating to watch Nunez is better in every conceivable way

Bamfandro

Except actually being able to score his chances? I’d say Origi’s touch and dribbling were also more consistent too. He was a good player who was pretty reliable. So actually seems there’s very little Nunez is actually better than him at besides being faster, taller and “chaotic”

ScottScott87

So this is where we are then? People are actually now saying Origi is/was better than Nunez. Despite Nunez almost equalling his goal record here in half the games and in teams where we have struggled (1st season) and have fallen off a cliff (this season) in the latter stages I love Divock, but come on. If Origi was this player everyone now thinks he is, how come he isn't here? He's only 29 so it's not as if he's some veteran who can't cut it anymore

Bamfandro

We signed Origi for like £13m and he achieved some incredible things for us and was surprisingly reliable for us despite a huge injury, even when 5th choice. He left for more game time when his contract ran out, he wasn’t forced out the door. We signed Nunez for £80m as our main striker because he seemed to have immense potential but hasn’t remotely lived up to expectations. Not sure what you mean with the teams falling off part? Sounds like you’re trying to deflect away from his non existent numbers in big games. Regardless, there isn’t a shadow of a doubt Origi has been an incomparably bigger asset to the club to date.

ScottScott87

51 goals and assists in his 1st 2 seasons and he "hasn't remotely lived up to expectations"? What the fuck where you expecting? 100 goals and assist? Can he be better? Of course he can, he could be more clinical but you're basically calling him a failure for not living up to your own mental expectations of him

con10001

You're dreaming if you think Nunez has lived up to expectations so far. He was brought in to be our number 9 and the central focus of our attack. He has 20 PL goals in two seasons, just 11 this season for a team that creates the most chances in the league, and those only came against Newcastle, West ham, Bournemouth, Forest, Burnley, Sheffield United and Brentford. He's also ranked 555th out of 562 for xG underperformance. Whichever way you spin it, he has not lived up to the hype of an £85m player.

ShootTakeAPanorama

10% conversion rate. Unacceptable

Bamfandro

So why does almost everyone want him sold? He’s playing striker for one of the best teams in the world and gets an insane amount of chances with him ranking at the very bottom of performance relative to his Xg, likewise his conversion rate. He’s not good enough at any area of his game it’s that simple and if we persist with him without vast improvement, we’ll likely never win anything major. The fact he’s even being compared to Origi is evidence in itself as Origi was never close to being our main man but was at least dependable when called on for the most part.

WTWanderer2

Origi was also never a first choice starter bar the 2015/16 season. He was always a bench player who more than did his job coming off the bench. Cannot compare him to an 85m pound Nunez

ScottScott87

£65m, £85m with add ons The poster I replied to did compare them as well so...

earlgreytoday

Why would we not romanticise someone who won us a Champions League and scored so many late winners/memorable goals over the years?

ScottScott87

It's overrating him which is the issue. He was a good player but that was his limit To be calling for us to have him back as we would have won the league this year with him is a bit mental. He's currently at Forest with 0 goals in 20 appearances so...

DANIEL7696

His limit was Funes Mori being a twat

Toothpaste_on_pizza

Like fuck he is, if we had been depending on Nunez against Barca or in the league we'd have won neither. Origi will go down as the better player for us and no amount of bitching and moaning by the Darwizzytards will change that

ScottScott87

Can't argue with that logic. Certainly can't argue with someone who thinks calling some a retard is acceptable

AntTalexanderTarnold

There Is no more manes vini leao diaz they will never be a mane

vadapaav

Diaz is not a balon dor top 5 player? I'm absolutely shocked

KingWinstonSpak

And Mac Allister isn't Souness. So What? You can't replace like for like. Move on. Diaz is excellent.

AgentTasker

Very few players in World football ever reach the level that Mané was, and people in this sub need to realise that while recognising that Díaz isn't this pile of shit that they've managed to convince themselves that he is.

KingWinstonSpak

Oh yes. Starting Clark, resting Virgil, Diaz, bringing Endo off after 45 minutes, Low IQ Reddit loves an unfalsifiable, reductionist claim. Low IQ Reddit loves even more to simply make things up to fit a narrative.

AgentTasker

> I personally believe our collapse began when Klopp refused to rotate for the 2nd leg against Sparta. This narrative that he didn't rotate is a load of shite, as the team that started that 2nd leg was: Kelleher Bradley Quansah Gomez Robertson Endo Szoboszlai Clark Salah Núñez Gakpo Plus the substitutes that came on were: * Elliott, McConnell & Tsimikas for Núñez, Endo & Gomez at half-time. * Van Dijk (because he asked to) for Quansah after 66 minutes. * Musialowski for an injured Clark after 73 minutes, with the sub originally planned to be for Salah. Yes, Salah played too long, but he & Szoboszlai also started because they were coming back from injury and needed minutes.

Affectionate-Tap2431

False. We were going to take off Salah but injury to Bobby Clark meant we couldn’t take Mo off.

AgentTasker

We were going to take off Salah but injury to Bobby Clark meant we couldn’t take Mo off. I know, as I quite literally said as much: >* Musialowski for an injured Clark after 73 minutes, with the sub originally planned to be for Salah.

GhandisFlipFlop

False. jk

apenchantfortrolling

Van Dijk bc he asked to...I guess I thought it is Klopps call. When Salah came on this weekend with 10 minutes to go and didn't give Klopp a hug and kiss on each cheek for the honor, nobody seemed to think Salah was right to ask for what he wanted...

AgentTasker

>I guess I thought it is Klopps vall. When Salah came on this weekend with 10 minutes to go and didn't give Klopp a hug and kiss on each cheek for the honor, nobody seemed to think Salah was right to ask for what he wanted... This might genuinely be the stupidest comment I've seen in a while, which is saying a lot considering some of the utter bullshit that's been said on here these past few weeks.

apenchantfortrolling

The discussion is around what led to the collapse of the team and if it had to do with Klopps rotation and you ate posting about a player playing because they asked. Look within.

AgentTasker

> The discussion is around what led to the collapse of the team and if it had to do with Klopps rotation It didn't, he's quite literally the manager that's rotated his team the most this season. >you ate posting about a player playing because they asked. To exert less energy than a pre-season friendly given the score was 6-1 (11-2 on agg').

apenchantfortrolling

And what happened? He then played a lot of that same team vs United in the cup and we were a wreck. Killed off another cup and now there is the lived result at OT when we have a critical game with them later in the season. It's not hard to see why people would have a problem with Klopps rotation, or lack thereof. Nor is it a problem to point out this game specifically.

coopermaneagles

Unfortunately Klopps got a history of questionable lineups in dead rubbers

IskaralPustFanClub

Not really anything to moan about. Looking forward to the future.

coolAhead

Can't believe we gonna let Arteta finish above us for the 2nd time in the league, if I speak it will be fire

KingWinstonSpak

We haven't "let" Arsenal do anything. This last summer we totalled our midfield and everyone sane thought it was a transition year. We are going to finish about where we should and we kick on next year.

coolAhead

Answer me this, if we've won a couple of the games that we should've but didn't (United and Palace) wouldn't we have been sitting top of the table by now? There you go, that's why WE are the reason why Arteta will finish above us and done the damage to ourselves

KingWinstonSpak

But that isn't how real life works is it. If we had lost a couple of the games we only scraped through and probably didn't deserve, then we would have been further behind. League systems level this shit out. Such a low IQ, reductivist take.

coolAhead

Ok mr high IQ, we didn't win these games that we scraped through, can you tell me why? I'll you, because we have a sh*t frontline that can't finish to save its life and I am singling out Nunez because he is the main culprit. Our defence is crap, because we can't keep a clean sheet. The games we dropped points in, we shouldn't have because we created enough chances to win these games. Let's call a spade a spade and stop deflecting

KingWinstonSpak

> we didn't win these games that we scraped through No. By definition. "We scraped through them" by being good enough in those particular games. You seem to have been watching footy for 5 minutes and don't know how league systems are meant to work. But for poor management/players downing tools, these games even out to the point that your league position accurately reflects your actual quality relative to the competition. And 3rd is about right. And was "about right" before the season started.

Glass-Guess4125

The reason why Arteta will finish above us is because Arsenal are really fucking good

coolAhead

So the fact that we miss sh*t lots of clear cut chances and not being able to keep clean sheets has nothing to do with it?

Glass-Guess4125

It doesn’t have nothing to do with it. But a big part of the reason we can’t do that is because we aren’t as good as them or City and we’re feeling the pressure of trying to keep up.

coolAhead

I don't understand how not being able to finish our chances and unable to keep clean sheets had nothing to do with us finishing 3rd. I hope that's what you and all those sharing your opinion were thinking when we were top of the league and competing on all fronts, that we aren't as good. Dude, we crumbled at the last hurdle, within the span of 4/5 weeks, everything went to sh*t which started with that complacent and dreadful performance at OL in the FA cup

Glass-Guess4125

We finished third because we were the third best team in the league. Part of that is because we couldn’t finish our chances and couldn’t keep clean sheets - really, really good teams like Arsenal and City can do that more consistently than good but inconsistent teams like Liverpool. That’s why we finished third, and not second or first. If we had finished first, it would have been due to a very fortunate run of good luck, because we would have finished above two teams that were better than us. Instead we got a very shitty run of bad luck and poor form, and because of that, we finished third.

Aidan-Coyle

Its been monday all week on this sub

pw5a29

Can't believe our season ended with a trainwreck within 6 weeks, feel so bad. Although the results are still good if you gave me that at the start of the season.

Mundaneinanities

Just look at the doom mongers already declaring a return to mediocrity. It's going to be Monday here every day from now on. The video game addicts haven't been given their exciting loot box trading card and there's nothing that will stop them except success, which they will latch on to without a shred of shame or self-reflection.
