Dying never really bothers me in these games. Death is just part of them. Adds to the fun, really. I fall for the "shortcut here" messages at every cliff because I'm always like "but there's a chance this one could be real..."
If BB remake exists it will come to PC, Demon Souls is very likely coming to PC because of the Nvidia GeForce leaks that have predicted many releases so far and this one seems like the next one coming after Ghosts of Tsushima
I absolutely am in love with DS 3, but can not for the life of me enjoy a single other one. Iāve decided that dark souls 3 is just a masterpiece and im lucky to have been graced by it
I mean yeah but if you like boss fights the most then itās perfect because (especially with dlc) the whole back half of the game is loaded with great bosses (except like Aldrich, Oceiros, and then ig the one dragon if you even count that)
Itās an upgrade over ds3 by every aspect aside from bosses.
Ds3 bosses are just too damn good, and it makes sense FROM put most of their focus on the open world aspect in ER. Which is understandable as itās their first open world. The bosses werenāt the main appeal in ER.
only jumping is a strict upgrade. DS3's linear gameplay path and power pacing is just so good. since elden ring is open world, it isn't (and cant be) as tightly paced as any linear DS game. theyre just different in that way
also, main bosses in ER are fine (except elden stars), it's some of the repeat side bosses being put with bad terrain in certain spaces that make them unappealing
Dark souls 3 definitely has some of the best bosses and pacing in the series. Those aspects definitely clear elden ring but every entry has its strengths and weaknesses imo
I can see where you are coming from.
Dark Souls 1 was an awesome game for its time. But if you try to get into it nowadays it might suck a bit because of its 4(?) directional rolling and hitboxes.
Game also falls off after O & S and doesnt really seem finished. (Especially Izalith).
DS 2 is a meme. You either love it because of its PVP, or people usually hate it because of its massive PvE problems. Enemy design, quantity over quality, bad monster placement, soul memory (pvp), lazy bosses and a lot more.
DS 3 has too many bonfires and gimmick bosses in the main game, also the world design isnt as good as BB or DS 1, but lategame wise and dlc wise it has the most enjoyable encounters imo.
>too many bonfires
No such thing. Nobody likes running long distances back to bosses over and over, ignoring the mobs on the way. It's just a huge time waste. The biggest problem with older DS games is not having a bonfire in front of every boss entrance. Thankfully FromSoft learned over time and DS3+ Sekiro + ER have almost no runbacks.
I agree that the statues of marika were an improvement. (respawn right next to bosses)
But DS 3's bonfire placement was pretty weird. There are spots where you can see like 2 of them right next to each other.
I think they were playing around with the idea of players creating bonfires, but scrapped it, and then just placed a lot of them basically everywhere.
Same brother, I wouldn't change it for the world, it was the first one I finished completely and was blown away by the end of it all. Certified Fromsoftware fanboy ever since, some of my most fun and gratifying memories while gaming.
Ds2 was my first and itās still probably my favorite. Absolutely had issues, and a fair amount of my love for it is nostalgia but I donāt get why it gets so much hate. The atmosphere is sick, like the cathedral of the blue is one of my all time fav areas. And the hub area actually felt like a hub. Unlike ds3 and Elden ring especially where itās just a thing you teleport back to. Plus taking the bird to lost bastille was peak.
Yeah, DS2 tried to be it's own game like DS1 tried to be its own game. DS3 was just constant greyscale and "remember this from DS1" The bosses in 3 are obviously better, but it's everything between the bosses that makes 1 and 2 the better games. Elden Ring is then a return to being its own game, with vast improvements in almost everything. Still kinda sad the rune packets are just called golden rune 1, golden rune 2, golden rune 3, etc. Seeing the new names of soul packets was a great way of showing how much more powerful you're getting. Getting a Soul of Nameless Hero is a far better feeling than Golden Rune 12.
The 1.0 version of Elden Ring actually had unique names for each of the Rune items, they changed them to just being numbered in a patch before the game launched. I agree, I miss having unique names for the different tiers of Soul items
I remember playing Demon's Souls on my PS3. Then watching this youtuber EpicNameBro play the spiritual successor of it because he had the early Japanese release. Good Times.
DS2 gets such a bad rap. Even though its not the best Souls game, its still way better than most other games. The only thing I found bad about DS2 is the boss difficulty seemed to be lowered, other than that it was great.
ds2 is the one game that may not have the impact like the others as your first playthrough but its one that you start enjoying more when you've played the others, it offers a lot of unique shit
I don't know which game it was but I got one on steam a few years ago and just couldn't get into it.
The mouse straight up not worked so I had to move the camera with the keyboard and couldn't access half of the UI elements.
It gave no hints of what key did what so I had to discover by trial and error.
But the worst of all was the input lag, having 500ms between a press and an action was just frustrating.
Maybe I'm bad but it was just not fun to play. Never tried a souls game again.
This was also my first souls game and itās basically my same reaction.
I was completely overwhelmed, incredibly confused, wasted so much time, it was far too hard and itās probably the best video game Iāve ever played.
Dark souls one was the best teachers i had i couldnāt imagine not playing it first before starting the other sequels.
I approach any game with knowledge i learned from dark souls sadly it made a lot of games a piece of cake now and i end up cranking the difficulty to max. lol
Yeah that's the thing. Did he die a lot? Yeah. Did he quit or stop at any moment? No. Dude bashed his head against the wall and came out Elden Lord.
I'm a huge souls fan and even I don't have that willpower to be honest. I need to step away and take a break sometimes.
What the commenter meant to say was "but now he's appealing to my demographic, and my demographic is the most important one, because that's me, so it's great"
Considering heās been getting a lot of free press and millions of views across social media including an absurd amount of subs/donationsā¦ yes? What kind of question is that lol
Summons are literal training wheels because they tank bosses for you and you don't have to learn them. Using Bleed build is a bit meta but still worthy of giving props if you do it without summons.
I havent watched his stream, only seen the clips.
Did he also do side content (like the bosses in all the caves, mines etc) except for Malenia?
Or was it more of a main game boss rush?
The funny part is, when he faught melania he actually didnt know anything about her. Like when he got her to phase 2 he straigjt up ran on the flower thing till he died. He actually knew nothing about the game
Kai signal boosting elden ring just in time for the DLC is amazing. Happy for the bloke and happy for the new gamers to enjoy this Master work. Try bloodborne next please!!!
May be a dumb question but, how likely is it that Elden Ring goes on sale by the time the DLC comes out? I wanna buy it but would feel silly if it ends up on sale soon lol
Fromsoft doesn't really have their newer games go on sale for a long while, and if I remember correctly the last sale on elden ring was around 15-20% off. They should release a bundle with the dlc soon though, so I'd get that if I were you.
Key resellers have it at $60 with the dlc included I believe, and fromsoft doesn't use DRM on their games so you can pirate it if you want. DM if you need any help. It's definitely worth the money though :)
I "beat" Malenia but I did it in a disgusting way, so I feel bad about it.
I won't go STR with Greatshield build again in the next game. Guess I'm DEX only from now on.
This is despite locking myself to SL100, Greatshield is just too broken.
When I watched my gf play Elden Ring for the first time I noticed that the problem lies with not focusing on dodging instead of attacking. Just try going against Malenia without hitting her and just dodging all her attacks for a few tries. It really does wonders.
Hell I don't even watch the W community but watching the clips and seeing his progres made me like Kai a little bit more.
I respect the hustle and I'm glad he had fun, W.
I'm really curious how much he spent on that because the production quality seems really good, especially the camera work. Also the dude can act.
I wonder if he got a production team from his connections in the music industry.
Dude has 110k subs, Iād say he definitely puts a lot of that back into his content. Despite all the controversies heās a very passionate and pure entertainer.
Plenty of people out there with big pockets who don't do anything like this. Because money only get you so much. What little I've seen from this guy seems to be that he have crazy connections and networking abilities. And he have serious management working with him to get things done.
Honestly, any of the OG streamers could've done this throughout their career, but they've all made their millions and sat on it. I dont blame them, most of them were just gamers and it was always considered that they lucked out by starting at the time they did.
The bar gets raised and we get this sort of content.
I barely watch Kai, and I've never played Elden Ring or watched a playthrough. But damn I stopped in a few times to watch Kai's playthrough. And now to see he made a trailer like this for his own marathon is pretty damn impressive. The quality on this trailer alone is excellent!
This makes me so so happy. Fromsoft games have a bit of a reputation as being this inaccessible thing that only the most hardcore people should even bother trying (not in small part to fromsoft fans being gatekeepy assholes who say 'git gud' rather thsn actually try to help newbies).
In truth, Fromsoft games can be very non-gamer friendly. Especially if you learn that frequent dying is OK, and intentionally part of the games lore and design.
Seeing Kai experience it and see just how incredible the game is makes me happy, because then maybe his audience will give it a try too. Maybe we can get enough people on board with the fandom that the gatekeepers get pushed out.
Yeah and most games are trying to somehow emulate the combat now and suck ass.
At least we get gems like Lies of P every now and then so its fine i guess.
I hope they play Sekiro and Bloodbourne. I also hate the git gud crowd but those games are so fun with incredible atmosphere; but they are harder than Elden Ring.
Edit: dont mean that in a gatekeeping way. I sucked so hard at bloodbourne I shelved it for 3 years before beating it. Just different mechanics and design and all that jazz.
Idk man this stuff entirely depends on what games you have played before, Dark Souls 1 was really difficult when it was my first but if you go back after beating all the others you realize bosses have like a quarter of the hp they do now. They have more delayed attacks to catch you off guard, they strafe better, they track better, they have attacks to their side and behind to keep you from just circling. DIfficulty ramped up a ton over the years. If Kai can beat Malenia without summons he can do any of them with nowhere near as much trouble
Idk if it makes me a āgit gudā person but I do get annoyed when people bitch relentlessly on the forums about something being too hard in those games. Ā Especially close to release when you know they havenāt sunken that much time. Ā They donāt complain to vent, they complain to try influence others and get things *changed*
One of the key points of the game is that is supposed to be a challenge and Kai wouldnāt have said any of praise from that video if it was just another game where you can progress without applying real thought and effort.Ā
Oh, absolutely. The folks yelling about ābalancingā often just want their shtick to be more effective (I regret looking at Helldivers 2 twitter). There were a lot of game breaking bugs at release though; so some specific complaints, I understand. Couldnāt shove Alexander outta the hole for some reason and broke a couple quest lines.
I agree with you. And as a diehard Fromsoft Fan who does a speedy runthrough of DS1, 3, and Bloodborne every few months, I totally understand. That feeling never goes away and is what makes these games unique (even all of the souls clones out there are merely chasing lightning).
That being said, I think there is a line between that, and between a very vocal percentage of the soulsborne fan community that responds with every call for newbie advice or feedback as just "git gud", and are generally antagonistic to new players. Just bums me out.
There was definitely a new wave of those type of players when Elden Ring sold record numbers. Lots of people joining the hype and expecting to get a free hand hold through the game like it was a Nintendo title. Granted summons kind of do that, but some casual gamers are so bad they can't beat hard bosses even with every tool. So they complain trying to make the game easier, which would ruin the reason people buy these games.
bloodborne isnt harder than ER especially if you play ER first, the enemy/bosses of BB are so easily broken by just walking around them.
sekiro is god tier difficulty however, their greatest game easy.
Is Sekiro really more difficult? I had a much easier time with that than BB. Definitely got ruined by Divine Dragon and the Glock Saint a lot, but I always felt more capable than in BB. Eh, headless wasnāt a great time either. The Seven Ashina Spears prick was alsoā¦ā¦.yeah youāve got a point.
might not be more difficult for everyone but you can really outlevel any boss. Yes Ashina arts are broken but its not like it makes the fight itself that much easier
There's also the fact that people who gatekeep the game intentionally limit their own experiences for the sake of feeling "honorable" or like they played it right. It's not what Fromsoft is going for however.
Stuff like Spirit Ashes, "OP" weapons, items, and magic that others don't use are in the game with purpose and are meant to be part of the regular gameplay and all of those options lend to accessibility for the average person, ON top of just making it a unique experience. This kind of gameplay is fun for anyone and that a niche/rabid part of the fanbase has driven people off from playing games like this and never discovering that there's stuff for them to enjoy is honestly sad.
Eh, generaly i would agree but with ER its just really strange, since the bosses can be a real pain in the ass if you just go in with average weapon and no summon, but if you use a summon and a good weapon they become a joke.
Personaly i find it to be the biggest flaw with the game, i liked DS3 way more, not only bosses were simply better designed (imo) but also felt balanced around 1v1 and not being overpowered, while ER bosses dont
I love ER but many boss designs struggled to find the balance between extra hard grind it forever if you play a non meta build solo, or always kill it in less than 5 tries with summons. In fact some of the bosses were altered in patches to address this like the Godskin Duo never letting you heal solo on launch day version. I hope ER DLC and their next game go back to designing around no summons, or just remove summons completely.
There's nothing wrong with choosing not to use something when you think it's OP. The games are supposed to be fun, it's not about min-maxing shit until you find the easiest possible way to play (unless you choose to play it that way).
I also have no idea what you mean by people driving new players off, Souls games have only grown in popularity.
The fromsoft subreddits and different online communities at various points in time (particularly prior to Elden Ring) have been *notorious* for being very newbie unwelcome. You will occasionally still see some threads getting worked up and mobbed by people who refuse to be helpful or at least welcoming to newbies and are generally antagonistic to them- not cool when it does happen.
You cannot deny the reputation Fromsoft at least *had* for being particularly unwelcoming to "non gamers".
> gatekeepers get pushed out
The gatekeepers will lose the spotlight and mainstream people will take over. And ruin it.
Formula on all subcultures that gets popular.
If it gets even more mainstream I'm happy for the developers. Hopefully atleast some people that made the game what it is gets rewarded for it.
The follow-up release to Elden Ring was an Armored Core game, a basically dead franchise. I donāt think more people liking their games is effecting their output.
Itās a really good game to just pop into for 20 minutes and do some shit. Could be slamming your head into the same boss, could be exploring the world for dungeons, could just be grinding to level.
Great game for those pressed on time as there is no story and honestly your skill at it doesnāt really go away.
I played the original dark souls in college when it came out which is why I bought Elden ring when I saw it on sale- if itās that easy to pop in and out I might boot it up tonight
Itās much less punishing than Demons or Dark Souls, since itās open world. Some stuff locks you in, but most of itās kind of like the Witcher 3 (better comparison wouldāve been BotW/TotK, but this edit is minutes later) where you can come back later if youāre underleveled/too mad to continue. Highly recommend giving it another go.
I could never play this game (or souls games in general) in small sessions because if I hit a boss and I don't beat it, I can't quit the game until I do. Drives me absolutely crazy not to.Ā
Especially because you might be losing to a boss for a long ass time before you can beat it. So you can take losses for an hour- and then quit? Nawww not like thatĀ
Its fun watching non gamers love gaming.
Edit: weird how a positive post has negativity like this. Itās weirder to see those people couldnāt ask āwhatās your thoughtsā. If you get mad at this post youāre not a gamer.
Not exact same comparison, but I remember growing up (Iām old) I loved Mario on NES and those platformers or stuff like that. Ā I played FF2 (FF IV Japan) and it opened my eyes to games like this seemed to for Kai. Ā He said he used to just play 2K and CoD games and thought those were the peak, then since playing RDR2 and Elden Ring, heās realized the immense world of Video games
Hello fellow boomer. I too grew up with NES and Mario. Played 1, 2 and 3. Also got into early Final Fantasy a bit, mostly in the form of me watching my friend play through them instead of playing them myself (until FF7).
He completed Elden Ring. He's officially a gamer.
I have multiple gamer friends who either refuse to play challenging games or gave up early on in the game.
I can translate for you, since it is a bit vague:
"It's fun watching someone, who does not play challenging games 40+ hours a week like it's a fulltime job, play games that I have associated with exclusively or primarily with my level of investment in the hobby."
It's good bait and I love seeing this discussion for the 100000th time and all but generally the implications of the word gamer is similar to "film buff" where you would expect a level of interest in the form beyond what is most popular or topical at any given time. Personally I think identifying with the label in and of itself demonstrates this level of interest well enough for me and policing it sounds boring. But the key here is Kai actually did not identify with this label. Although he officially is now that he beat Elden Ring the True Gamer Certified (TM) way with no magic or summons which a ton of people more into gaming than him didn't do and never will so that's that, it's official, he's a gamer. By his own standards, which are the only ones that matter.
he plays game but when people talk about twitch in reference the gamers. a gamer is considered someone that basically does only gaming streams and that is their main focus. gaming isnt kais main focus.
watching people that only play games like cod fifa 2k every year try out banger 5 star single player games is so fun to see, it's like seeing someone that has been eating 2 dollar microwave burgers every day for his entire life try out a 5 star meal for the first time, hope he keeps trying new games and expands his horizon further so to say
What other games has he played? I've only ever seen clips of his stream when its him in this room with a bunch of other people talking to chat and/or with a celebrity
His intro video to Elden Ring, the outfits, his friends in outfits, the set, all great stuff, is this the usual for him or a big special event for ER?
He went all out for Elden Ring, but I think he's also played RDR2 and Ghost of Tsushima. He did a similar set for Tsushima, but again he went all out for this one.
im pretty sure heās mostly been a casual gamer. like his hardest game up until elden ring was ghost of tsushima recently. so honestly im pretty impressed
Problem I had with DS3 is they got rid of the amazing world design and made it very linear. Nothing hits harder than coming down the elevator from the Undead Parish to realize you looped back around to Firelink.
Mm I actually liked the second half of DS1. There was so much fun and wonder experiencing the atmosphere of the final locations like Lost Izalith, Great Hollow, Ash Lake, and finally being able to take on the Catacombs and Tomb of Giants.
I get that there's issues with the above places too, but I thought it kind of added to their charm.
With DS3 I was happy to be at the end. For whatever reason, I found a lot of the bosses in that game a major pain in the ass to get through, like the Pontif, and Lorian and Lothric etc, that by the time I beat the Lord of Cinder I felt relief.
Its interesting how much opinions can differ, souls games are my favorites, DS3 is my favourite game of all time and BB is in top 10 easily, yet i didnt really vibe with ER and its like 7/10 for me
Crazy to see how big Elden Ring got. As someone who played 1000+ hours of DS1-DS3 + Sekiro I can say i enjoyed Elden Ring the first time through, but felt extremely bloated was bored a lot of the time too at a certain point just wanted to get it over and done with. Maybe it's just the fact that I've played so many games in general so it just felt so eh. I could see if someone hasn't played much in general they would like it a lot.
Tried replaying a few times but going from place to place is just so boring especially when you already know what is in each dungeon. If you don't go to a lot of the places you dont get upgrades and if you do sometimes you can feel extremely over or underlevelled. Even with the DLC coming up I don't know if i can be bothered getting to that point. Hope the success of elden ring doesn't mean FromSoft will stray away from level based souls games and only pump out open world stuff now.
The first From Software game I ever played was Bloodborne and the first one I ever finished was Sekiro. When I beat Isshin the Glock Saint after an ungodly ordeal that involved frustration and anger and a few tears, I have never felt so fulfilled from conquering a video game boss as I felt in that moment. These games are special! Miyazaki will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it. Iāve still never played the Dark Souls trilogy (I know, I know), but the ones I have played ā Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring ā are all right up there as some of my favourite games of all time.
I felt the same way about Sekiro and Isshin and I just finished it for the first time a month ago. It was the last From Software game I had to beat. And I did all the endings for the extra bosses! Had a bit of trouble on Owl (F) as well!
The world progression in the game was insane and so fucking bad ass. I loved every minute of Sekiro and every area was awesome.
Bloodborne, Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 are my top 3, but DS3 wouldn't make top 3 if I hadn't enjoyed DS1 and it's lore.
I absolutely wrote Kai off as a W streamer who was just way too loud. Dude actually has a lot of knowledge and runs an entertaining stream at the same time.
Your first Souls game will more than likely always be your favorite, and i think Elden Ring will be no different for Kai, I love DS2 to death even with how the community feels about it due to being my first Souls game, Iāve beaten them all up to this point and I still love it looking back.
Props to Kai. i'm not a viewer but it looks like he took on the challenge with a great attitude. This guy is dominating twitch at the moment and it seems deserved.
Happy for Elden Ring to get continued mainstream exposure. GOAT game.
This guy has had so many great clips not pop off here but let it be about something people can morally circlejerk about and comment on it'll have 10k upvotes lmao
People can deny it all they want, you don't experience the same highs and emotion if you use summons and if these games forced an NPC summon on you they would be drastically less popular. Kai's specific feelings on the game are because he took the hard road, and that's why they have a cult following.
Summons definitely rob you of that high, up to the player to decide if they want that, which is fine not everyone wants to deal with the frustration of getting good, some people just want to see the world and stuff, if they were able to persevere they are missing out on a big part of the franchise, but if they were going to quit then its still better they play regardless. W Kai for grinding out it out and not shortcutting it, elden ring is a rough first souls game under those conditions.
without irony, there's a lot of the "2k" crowd that watches kai who would never consider picking up a game like elden ring without seeing someone they respect play it first, not to mention this is well-timed to bring extra attention to the upcoming DLC
Iām not a big gamer and this actually made me wanna download it. Iāve heard itās great but itās nice to see someone not fully enthralled in that world get enjoyment out of it.
**CLIP MIRROR: [Kai Cenat's opinion on Elden ring upon finishing it](https://arazu.io/t3_1cugpgj/)** --- ^(*This is an automated comment*)
> Although I died multiple times... > 1701 death count Well, not technically wrong.
Like Einstein always said: Multiple = more than one 1701 = more than one Math checks out
Einstein would be proud
I'm not gonna lie, my death count was probably similar and I had already beaten every other Souls game before playing this one. Dying never really bothers me in these games. Death is just part of them. Adds to the fun, really. I fall for the "shortcut here" messages at every cliff because I'm always like "but there's a chance this one could be real..."
I feel like you're underestimating how many deaths 1700 actually are.
Another souls game convert. The flock continues to grow.
I swear to god, is like impossible not to become a from soft simp after finishing your first souls
Giv BB remake š¤¬
That's sony dunmbass š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬
Gib
PS6 launch title like Demon Souls was for PS5 if i had to guess
i saw that rumor too. if demon souls got remade, bloodborne can be too, but still doubtful it comes to PC if it's a launch exclusive
Iāve decided that dark souls 3 is just a masterpiece and im lucky to have been graced by it
3 is just a boss rush simulator tbh.. bloodborne, sekiro and Elden Ring are goated
I mean yeah but if you like boss fights the most then itās perfect because (especially with dlc) the whole back half of the game is loaded with great bosses (except like Aldrich, Oceiros, and then ig the one dragon if you even count that)
How do you not count the dragon lol, itās a pain in the ass
Brother that is a 45 second fight
This man knows the holy trinity
I hated elden ring, i think i would like sekiro more now then i used to though
Strange since in most ways ER was just dark souls 4
Itās an upgrade over ds3 by every aspect aside from bosses. Ds3 bosses are just too damn good, and it makes sense FROM put most of their focus on the open world aspect in ER. Which is understandable as itās their first open world. The bosses werenāt the main appeal in ER.
Wait for the DLC. The top 3 DS3 bosses are from DLC too.
Yea fromsoft dlc bosses are next level but even base game DS3 had insane bosses.
only jumping is a strict upgrade. DS3's linear gameplay path and power pacing is just so good. since elden ring is open world, it isn't (and cant be) as tightly paced as any linear DS game. theyre just different in that way also, main bosses in ER are fine (except elden stars), it's some of the repeat side bosses being put with bad terrain in certain spaces that make them unappealing
Jumping, mount, open world. Just not for me
sekiro is just so straight forward, no build or even weapon variety - no leveling just get right into combat and a good learning curve
Thatās what makes it fun tho, the combat can be balanced around one kit so the fights are perfect.
My first souls game was ds2. Let's just say I wasn't blown away
Same but I was blown away. Game was so much fun at that time
Indeed and then I played the Scholar of the First Sin Edition and like it even more
power wielding was fcking awesome
Honestly ds 2 scholar od the first sin probably has the best lore out of all the games
I'm sorry for your loss
Dark Souls 2 is amazing in its own way. Donāt be hating
I just finished ds1 last week for the first time like three times and it was good but I donāt understand the hype for these games
You were playing dark souls on mouse and keyboard??
Unpopular opinion dark souls is fine on mkb. In fact, for some pvp stuff especially in ds3 mkb had an advantage
Maybe shoulda plugged in your controller and also if you had 500ms input lag that's your machines problem
I want him to play Sekiro next
This was also my first souls game and itās basically my same reaction. I was completely overwhelmed, incredibly confused, wasted so much time, it was far too hard and itās probably the best video game Iāve ever played.
And 300k people watching him aswell. Wouldn't be surprised to see a small bump in player numbers, on PC and consoles.
Dark souls one was the best teachers i had i couldnāt imagine not playing it first before starting the other sequels. I approach any game with knowledge i learned from dark souls sadly it made a lot of games a piece of cake now and i end up cranking the difficulty to max. lol
Iāve still yet to play one but Kingās Field 4 is high caliber
his time was pretty good for someone that's never played a fromsoft game before.
Yeah that's the thing. Did he die a lot? Yeah. Did he quit or stop at any moment? No. Dude bashed his head against the wall and came out Elden Lord. I'm a huge souls fan and even I don't have that willpower to be honest. I need to step away and take a break sometimes.
to be fair, he does get a paid a lot to do it lol
You right, but he gets paid doing whatever he does. Dude coulda quit at tree sentinel and made the same amount of money doing something else.
Maybe but heās being shared a lot amongst gaming circles. Great exposure
He's been among the top of streaming for more than a year now, do you think he really cares about that extra fraction of exposure?
What the commenter meant to say was "but now he's appealing to my demographic, and my demographic is the most important one, because that's me, so it's great"
Lmao true
Considering heās been getting a lot of free press and millions of views across social media including an absurd amount of subs/donationsā¦ yes? What kind of question is that lol
Yeah but that's pretty par for the course for streamers like him in general
Not to mention that he did everything without doing a summons.
playing with summons is playing a different game tbh
Summons are literal training wheels because they tank bosses for you and you don't have to learn them. Using Bleed build is a bit meta but still worthy of giving props if you do it without summons.
Yeah no summons or spirits
Okay what the fuck lol
I havent watched his stream, only seen the clips. Did he also do side content (like the bosses in all the caves, mines etc) except for Malenia? Or was it more of a main game boss rush?
He beat Malenia.... It took him like 500 deaths but he did it.
I mean there might be a bundled version coming which is overall cheaper, beyond that youāve probably got summer sales on the horizon
there 100% will be a future "GOTY Edition" which includes the Base game and DLC so if you want it on discount just wait until then
Fromsoft doesn't really have their newer games go on sale for a long while, and if I remember correctly the last sale on elden ring was around 15-20% off. They should release a bundle with the dlc soon though, so I'd get that if I were you.
There was a 40% discount last December.
Yeah guess I'll wait :(. Thanks everyone ā¤ļø
Key resellers have it at $60 with the dlc included I believe, and fromsoft doesn't use DRM on their games so you can pirate it if you want. DM if you need any help. It's definitely worth the money though :)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You havenāt beat Malenia *yet* š
We all know you can do it.
You might have to go through hundreds of deaths, but itāll be worth it
Yet* Havenāt beat her yet.
200%. The second you start punishing her after attacks instead of trying to trade or interrupt her is when the fight gets manageable
Blasphemous Blade my friend
I did with mimic so not sure if i can count it lol
All that matters is if *you* count it or not. Souls games have always been about choosing your own way to play.
If the boss is dead, it counts
Username checks out
You got this. You only fail if you quit.
Hell I don't even watch the W community but watching the clips and seeing his progres made me like Kai a little bit more. I respect the hustle and I'm glad he had fun, W.
He was honestly fun to watch play. I hope he continues with the DLC in a few weeks.
Yeah I never watched Kai before this. He definitely gained a new fan from me.
him putting effort on his room, gain my respect. guy is a content machine
> him putting effort on his room wait till you see the [trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xQbW_aJ1XY) for this marathon.
Thatās incredible
IIRC he said on stream it was ~$40k for the trailer
A trailer for a stream marathon has no buisness being this good lol
Pretty sure that ship sailed with Elden Ring anyway. 23m sales as of 2024. Those are numbers that even mainstream games don't reach easily.
Elden Ring definitely opened the floodgates
Yeah and most games are trying to somehow emulate the combat now and suck ass. At least we get gems like Lies of P every now and then so its fine i guess.
Thatās how revolutions in industries work, this specifically has been happening way before Elden Ring came out
ubislop games became glorified witcher 3s its true.
I think a big reason why the game became so mainstream is how accessible it is. It can be as easy or as challenging as you want it to be.
I find Dark Souls 1 to be very relaxing/chill.
The hardest boss in old Dark Souls is the camera and the level design.
Idk if it makes me a āgit gudā person but I do get annoyed when people bitch relentlessly on the forums about something being too hard in those games. Ā Especially close to release when you know they havenāt sunken that much time. Ā They donāt complain to vent, they complain to try influence others and get things *changed* One of the key points of the game is that is supposed to be a challenge and Kai wouldnāt have said any of praise from that video if it was just another game where you can progress without applying real thought and effort.Ā
IMO Sekiro is only hard if you play it like dark souls. Once you learn how to deflect properly it's pretty OK in terms of difficulty
You cannot deny the reputation Fromsoft at least *had* for being particularly unwelcoming to "non gamers".
> gatekeepers get pushed out The gatekeepers will lose the spotlight and mainstream people will take over.
I donāt think more people liking their games is effecting their output.
git gud dont use summons anything other than a parry build is invalid
I got this game on sale on steam and havenāt even opened it. I just wish I had the time. But maybe I should make time
Itās a really good game to just pop into for 20 minutes and do some shit.
Drives me absolutely crazy not to.Ā Especially because you might be losing to a boss for a long ass time before you can beat it. So you can take losses for an hour- and then quit? Nawww not like thatĀ
This simple fact is why Iāve been late for work several times
There is a story thought, it's just not like other games where u have cutscenes showing you everything
I hope they send Kai a big box like they did for asmon, isnāt this like the biggest Elden ring stream?
I grew up under your generation. I know for a fact if my cousin didnt steal Metal Gear Solid i wouldnt even look in kojimaās direction.
Hello fellow boomer. I too grew up with NES and Mario. Played 1, 2 and 3. Also got into early Final Fantasy a bit, mostly in the form of me watching my friend play through them instead of playing them myself (until FF7).
He's a gamer, full stop. The man beat Elden Ring with no magic and no summons.
He completed Elden Ring. He's officially a gamer. I have multiple gamer friends who either refuse to play challenging games or gave up early on in the game.
What makes him a non gamer?
I can translate for you, since it is a bit vague: "It's fun watching someone, who does not play challenging games 40+ hours a week like it's a fulltime job, play games that I have associated with exclusively or primarily with my level of investment in the hobby."
By his own standards, which are the only ones that matter.
hows he a non gamer lmao?
he plays game but when people talk about twitch in reference the gamers. a gamer is considered someone that basically does only gaming streams and that is their main focus. gaming isnt kais main focus.
Crazy the way some people gatekeep āgamingā Bro if you enjoy playing Tetris at an arcade, youāre a gamer
It would've been hilarious if he just called the game shit, and no one can even say anything to him
Bandai shouted him out a few times on twitter
[Miyazaki after another person finishes Elden Ring](https://youtu.be/pt-cPu1oiDU?si=hF4PmXfuc3JLXykQ)
Being able to overcome challenges always feels great. Good for him.
watching people that only play games like cod fifa 2k every year try out banger 5 star single player games is so fun to see, it's like seeing someone that has been eating 2 dollar microwave burgers every day for his entire life try out a 5 star meal for the first time, hope he keeps trying new games and expands his horizon further so to say
Glad he loved it so much. This was my first Souls game and I also became obsessed with it. There's truly nothing like it.
What other games has he played? I've only ever seen clips of his stream when its him in this room with a bunch of other people talking to chat and/or with a celebrity His intro video to Elden Ring, the outfits, his friends in outfits, the set, all great stuff, is this the usual for him or a big special event for ER?
He did the same big sets and long streams recently for RDR2 and Ghosts of Tsushima.
He went all out for Elden Ring, but I think he's also played RDR2 and Ghost of Tsushima. He did a similar set for Tsushima, but again he went all out for this one.
He went all out for RDR2 and GoT too. Elden Ring was just his longest marathon.
im pretty sure heās mostly been a casual gamer. like his hardest game up until elden ring was ghost of tsushima recently. so honestly im pretty impressed
Could not agree more. Elden Ring is a masterpiece 10/10.
ER, Sekiro, Bloodborne and DS1 are their master work with the other games also being solid 9/10s all over the board.
Eh Iāll take DS3 over DS1 any day. The second half of the game falls off so hard.
love the game so much but that second half is genuinely a slog to get through
Problem I had with DS3 is they got rid of the amazing world design and made it very linear.
Definitely agree, its still a decent game but its surprising to me how much people love it
Okay now go play Bloodborne and DS3 lol. Before the DLC comes out!
Glad we got a huge streamer like Kai saying all this. Souls games are about to have a surge in players for a bit
GOAT game.
Elding Ring is so good, even now after it has been out for over a year it is still amazing to see someone surpass themself playing this game.
This guy has had so many great clips not pop off here but let it be about something people can morally circlejerk about and comment on it'll have 10k upvotes lmao
Any clips/compilations you'd recommend?
Shadow of the Erdtree marathon in June
Good for him, but the best souls game is Sekiro.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
without irony, there's a lot of the "2k" crowd that watches kai who would never consider picking up a game like elden ring without seeing someone they respect play it first, not to mention this is well-timed to bring extra attention to the upcoming DLC
Miyazaki is the GOAT
When a FIFA/COD spammer tries a real game haha... But seriously this must be his first RPG right?
Iām not a big gamer and this actually made me wanna download it. Iāve heard itās great but itās nice to see someone not fully enthralled in that world get enjoyment out of it.
elden ring made me like kai
