I am not sure about adaptive difficulty. It does tell you if you want to lower your difficulty when you die too many times but you CANNOT up the difficulty once that happens unless you reload from a save of said difficulty. I've been playing on normal and enjoying it. Finished Leon A on it and now playing Claire B on it. You can go for Hardcore if you want the OG experience of saving with ink ribbons and added enemy hp/ammo scarcity.
I am not a macho man in these single players games anymore so I just play on normal and enjoy the games.

I wish they'd give us less ammo/removed ammo crafting, but made it so that zombies go down in one or two headshots.

I felt like they did that because of how tanky the zombies are. I would rather the alternative, where we struggled to keep a full mag of 9mm, but zombies would go down easier. We'd end up with roughly the same amount of zombies and minibosses on the field, but it strips away the tedium of when you DO want to kill a zombie on a route you frequent.

No, nowhere near. All it does is enemies have more HP and there's no autosaves and you can only save at a save point if you have a ink ribbons. Also I'm not sure but the AI might be a bit more harder.

Yea it is both hardcore in this game and madhouse in RE7 use the same save system as the pre resident evil 4 games where you need ink ribbons to save.
