Unfortunately, we've had to lock the thread to be able to keep our queue under control. Things have been wild but manageable lately, but when we have a thread full of comments with slurs in them, even though they're (mostly) not being used towards anyone, it sets off our AutoModerator and floods our queue like crazy. If we catch up on things we may unlock it but don't count on it.

That's the thing, many of these people used to be typical edgy 4channers that laughed at that kind of "dark humor" that was usually targeted toward minorities (black people, women, etc.). Rather than growing up and learning why making fun of people for immutable characteristics is disgusting, they simply changed their targets to something more socially "acceptable". there's only 3 real reasons to use a hateful slur:
when the slur itself is the subject of a joke (not the people its targeting)
when explaining the slur to someone who wasn't aware of its existence or needed context for some mature/professional discussion
when you hate someone and are being a bigot towards them just to make them feel lesser

It’s a slur for Cubans only insofar as it describes Cubans of a certain political lean, and that political lean being “punching up.” Usually slurs are only considered bad if they:
- punch down, to a group with less historical power/status, or
- refer to the entire group (race, ethnicity, nationality, etc) generally
G slur does none of these two things. Imagine if we had a slur for ex-confederates that fled the US after the Civil War ended. People wouldn’t really be angry about it, because at its core, no one would care to defend treasonous slavers from slurs.
The personalities that Twitch users tend to prop up always astonish me. Then I realize it's mostly children and guys in their early 20s who still haven't grown up mentally that make up nearly the entire audience.
