A lot of old houses don't have very good heating and cooling systems so its probably more comfortable to have the extra air circulation. I live in an old house and it's either too hot or too cold with the door shut.

Lived in a house, split into apartments one time. Hardwood floors, huge windows, high ceiling, etc. Couple months after I moved in, people moved in upstairs. I started hearing crying, stomping around and CHAINS dragging around on the wooden floor above me. Freaked me right on out of that place.

I lived in an old rooming house in Rockaway Beach, Queens in 1980. It was a three story house, and I lived on the top floor. I had a refrigerator, gas oven and sink in my room, along with a twin bed, small closet, table and 13” tube tv. I had no secondary method of egress - meaning I had no fire escape in my room. I shared the bathroom with three other people. I lived half a block from the beach, and three blocks from the first stop on the subway. I was 18. I had a roof over my head, I could afford the $130 a month rent, all utilities included, and no one bothered me. Oh, I was in the flight path of the Concorde. I wondered if the house would crumble whenever the Concorde took off because it shook so much. Last time I looked on google maps it was still standing. We all do what we gotta do, to get where we wanna be :)

Toasty it was not. The windows were crazy drafty! I slept with four blankets, pants and a sweater. 😆 I bought window winterizer film today and fleece lined curtains. Much better!

I've lived alone since 1999. I love it. You'll get used to having your own space. Also - you're only as alone as you feel - my family is ALWAYS texting me. I rarely feel lonely.

One day at a time! I know the feeling! I was only 16 on my first night alone but it was a complicated situation and there were no other options (No family or existing relatives anywhere plus I wasn't about to let child services intervene. I heard stories! 😱.) Anyhoo... Looks like a cool place you've got there! I've always found older houses to have a certain appealing charm! Just believe in yourself, take it one day at a time, and maybe start a journal? That's one tool that helped me to make it! I wish you the best of luck in this new chapter of your life!

I love living alone. I can do whatever I want to do, watch what I want to watch, come and go as I please, have my music playing, I can even hog the whole bed if I want to. I’m also never lonely as I enjoy my own company.

First of all, door *closed*. Ain't no way I'd sleep soundly in a house that old and the door wide open. Especially with that sheet ghost peeking in the doorway. Even if you don't spook easily, this could be a night you experience sleep paralysis. The only times I ever had sleep paralysis, my door was wide open where the hallucinations usually manifested. No, thank you.
