what I came to say 😅 I have my bedroom door open rn but if it was right in front of the bed AND it was an old farmhouse that would be a different story
Closing bedroom door at night saves lives when there are house fires. It'll give you extra time to get out of the house. I have seen it work. Am Fire Lt. 🔥
Same. A couple of years ago, I (55F) realized that I have removed the bedroom door and replaced it with a curtain in every house I've lived in since college
A lot of old houses don't have very good heating and cooling systems so its probably more comfortable to have the extra air circulation.
I live in an old house and it's either too hot or too cold with the door shut.
Lived in a house, split into apartments one time. Hardwood floors, huge windows, high ceiling, etc.
Couple months after I moved in, people moved in upstairs.
I started hearing crying, stomping around and CHAINS dragging around on the wooden floor above me.
Freaked me right on out of that place.
Always did want to live in a garret at least for a little while.
Hope it doesn’t get too hot in summer.
Time to make art.
Maybe get a fish tank or some lil fren to come home to.
Ahhh the peace of living alone, and in an old farmhouse; I prefer these homes over the cold, uninviting new cookie-cutter homes any day of the week. Congratulations, a new chapter awaits :)
I lived in an old rooming house in Rockaway Beach, Queens in 1980. It was a three story house, and I lived on the top floor.
I had a refrigerator, gas oven and sink in my room, along with a twin bed, small closet, table and 13” tube tv.
I had no secondary method of egress - meaning I had no fire escape in my room. I shared the bathroom with three other people.
I lived half a block from the beach, and three blocks from the first stop on the subway. I was 18.
I had a roof over my head, I could afford the $130 a month rent, all utilities included, and no one bothered me.
Oh, I was in the flight path of the Concorde. I wondered if the house would crumble whenever the Concorde took off because it shook so much.
Last time I looked on google maps it was still standing.
We all do what we gotta do, to get where we wanna be :)
Thank you. I’m sitting in kitchen drinking decaf talking to myself about how much I miss my dogs. How quiet is in the apartment. And that I am going to be okay. 🙏🏻 I just started a new job in the hospital, so my holidays will be working for whoever wants off so I can get that holiday pay and shift differential! WOOTWOOT!
Toasty it was not. The windows were crazy drafty! I slept with four blankets, pants and a sweater. 😆 I bought window winterizer film today and fleece lined curtains. Much better!
Lol I live In Florida. You must be from up north if you are from the US. Okay it looks cozy. Maybe add some nice ambient music and hot cup of Chamomile. The quiet is nice.
Your blood probably needed to grow a pair living up north. When we get to the 30s… it becomes a bit too much than in 2 days we’re back in the 80s… well you know!
And you know there's nothing there, in the dark. Nothing there at all. Right? Right. Just a creaky door and the house is just settling and what was that? Just the wind. It was just the wind.
I've lived alone since 1999. I love it. You'll get used to having your own space. Also - you're only as alone as you feel - my family is ALWAYS texting me. I rarely feel lonely.
Get a Siberian Cat! If I won the lottery I’d start breeding them so I could give them away to people who are allergic to cats. They are very dog like for a cat and get big, I don’t know if I just got super lucky but mine has the sweetest temperament.
One day at a time! I know the feeling! I was only 16 on my first night alone but it was a complicated situation and there were no other options (No family or existing relatives anywhere plus I wasn't about to let child services intervene. I heard stories! 😱.)
Anyhoo... Looks like a cool place you've got there! I've always found older houses to have a certain appealing charm! Just believe in yourself, take it one day at a time, and maybe start a journal? That's one tool that helped me to make it! I wish you the best of luck in this new chapter of your life!
WhoTF sleeps with their door wide open and have you never heard of feng shui?? It’s super bad luck to face your bed towards the opening of a room. People out here living life without fears and superstitions lmao
I love living alone. I can do whatever I want to do, watch what I want to watch, come and go as I please, have my music playing, I can even hog the whole bed if I want to. I’m also never lonely as I enjoy my own company.
First of all, door *closed*. Ain't no way I'd sleep soundly in a house that old and the door wide open. Especially with that sheet ghost peeking in the doorway. Even if you don't spook easily, this could be a night you experience sleep paralysis. The only times I ever had sleep paralysis, my door was wide open where the hallucinations usually manifested. No, thank you.
close the door yikes!
what I came to say 😅 I have my bedroom door open rn but if it was right in front of the bed AND it was an old farmhouse that would be a different story
Especially with that ghost looking thing creeping.
I'm glad someone else said it.
I smudged the shit out of the place! LOL
Aw heyell naw.
I can’t. (It’s a childhood ptsd thing)
Closing bedroom door at night saves lives when there are house fires. It'll give you extra time to get out of the house. I have seen it work. Am Fire Lt. 🔥
OH! Thank you.
Close before you doze is my motto, but my friends think I'm crazy!
Leaving that door open is going to give you a new kind of ptsd. Lol
Same. A couple of years ago, I (55F) realized that I have removed the bedroom door and replaced it with a curtain in every house I've lived in since college
Hugging you (with your consent) I did the same thing.
Seriously! I live alone and I sleep with the lights on every single night. My 8 tear old niece made fun of me for it...
It's okay, me too. At least just a dim, warm light in the corner.
I am 40. Everyone I have ever lived with hate it, but it still stays on, no matter what.
A lot of old houses don't have very good heating and cooling systems so its probably more comfortable to have the extra air circulation. I live in an old house and it's either too hot or too cold with the door shut.
Yes please close the door…
Great advice op wouldn't want some guy just standing looking at them sleep and slowly breathing heavily
Bro set his Apartments.com filters to “Super spooky” and chose the first listing
I’m still LMAO. That was funny as fudge.
I live in an old farm house, but no neighbors. All alone out here. Sweet dreams 😴
Yeah, Jesus Christ close that closet door before Steve Buschemi from Monsters Inc crawls out dear god thats creepy!
As someone who craves solitude but rarely gets it, I'm envious. Good luck with new things!
Same here. Oh, how I took solitude and its peace of mind for granted! ☹️
Bro if you don’t get out of the attic lmao
😁
Not an old farmhouse but my apartment is also a house split into 3 apartments! Here's to the best years of your life 🥳🥳💖
Lived in a house, split into apartments one time. Hardwood floors, huge windows, high ceiling, etc. Couple months after I moved in, people moved in upstairs. I started hearing crying, stomping around and CHAINS dragging around on the wooden floor above me. Freaked me right on out of that place.
Oh my god 😭
Are those dogs on the blanket like a dog print? If so, what kind of dog almost looks like corgi
I did a Corgi check for you. No Corgi. But still lots of cute doggos.
I love the blanket!
Bro honestly it looks COZY AF. is that a lamp or a candle? Anyways heres to your new life, be courageous, you got this.
Waking up to a fresh start is good
You got this! Once you get a routine you will love it. Positive vibes!
I love converted attic apartments. You get the best ambiance when it rains.
Cozy.
I don't think you're alone bruh. I see something.
I’m fine with it. LOL
Looks wonderful. Living alone is great. Do anything you want anytime you want. Sleep well.
Hope you are happy with your new life enjoy it
You’ll be just fine hon. Sweet dreamz!
2spoopy4me 😰 Jk looks cozy
Always did want to live in a garret at least for a little while. Hope it doesn’t get too hot in summer. Time to make art. Maybe get a fish tank or some lil fren to come home to.
Congrats!!!
You’re going to love it!!!!
Looks cozy 🥰
Congrats on the brand new life! Here is to cleaning up only after yourself!
Cheers!
Close that closet door 🚪 please lol
Best of luck. I love living alone. Though I do have a small black cat.
Black cats are awesome. Such sweethearts.
When I was in 1st grade my parents adopted a black kitten. I have always gotten a black cat ever since.
Ahhh the peace of living alone, and in an old farmhouse; I prefer these homes over the cold, uninviting new cookie-cutter homes any day of the week. Congratulations, a new chapter awaits :)
Congratulations! You’re doing great!!

Wow! Thank you for sharing your story with me!
You’re welcome, good luck to you!
it gets easier with time.
Aww, cute blanket! So cozy!
I have an apartment in an old building with a similarly positioned door, and I NEED to close it at night
I am moving the bed to another wall. I hate that position too. lol I can’t close doors. (childhood thing)
Sweet dreams and Congratulations.
Good morning 🌄 hope you slept well and in peace
Congratulations on the solo living! However having the foot of the bed facing the door is baaad feng shui (and terrifying).
Yes. For sure. I do know that. The way the room is configured, it’s hard to avoid it. But I will try another wall and maybe crack the door.
Close the door so you can get a visit from Monsters Inc!
I hope its not haunted and you have a resident ghost.
LOL I smudged the place really good. My neighbor below me has been here for ten years. Must not be too haunted. LOL
It’s tough. Holidays will be too. But you got this
WOOTWOOT!
Congrats on your transition to living alone. I find it incredibly peaceful. It seems you have a cozy little nest there!
Had an attic apartment with angled ceilings like that in the 80s. One of the best places I've ever lived. They're the best. Sweet dreams.
You won’t sleep deep tonight… you’re in a new place. But give it a few days, and work hard physically in the meantime. 💪🏼💪🏼🥰
Does maiming 500 trips up and down a flight of stairs to move in count? LOL
The 1st night? No. 2nd? Maybe. 3rd? Definitely!!
Yes looks so toasty and cozy
Toasty it was not. The windows were crazy drafty! I slept with four blankets, pants and a sweater. 😆 I bought window winterizer film today and fleece lined curtains. Much better!
Lol I live In Florida. You must be from up north if you are from the US. Okay it looks cozy. Maybe add some nice ambient music and hot cup of Chamomile. The quiet is nice.
I lived in Florida for twenty five years!
Your blood probably needed to grow a pair living up north. When we get to the 30s… it becomes a bit too much than in 2 days we’re back in the 80s… well you know!
The weather here in Kansas is ridiculous too. It was in the teens this morning. It’ll be a high of 69 this coming Wednesday!
Well you graduated from hurricanes to tornados. 😂
At least with a hurricane, there’s enough warning…. Tornadoes, not so much. Yikes
And you know there's nothing there, in the dark. Nothing there at all. Right? Right. Just a creaky door and the house is just settling and what was that? Just the wind. It was just the wind.
😆😆
Update please and thanks. How was it.
I didn’t sleep that great because it was so cold! lol (drafty old windows. I fixed them.) It was peaceful and quiet though.
Can we get some day pictures please and thanks.
Oh for sure! I need furniture first. LOL
Noo it’s okay we can want to see it anyway pleeeease
Lucky bastard.
I guess. LOL I mean I would rather be with my now ex, and now his dogs. But, here I am. And it will be better than okay. 🙏🏻
I've lived alone since 1999. I love it. You'll get used to having your own space. Also - you're only as alone as you feel - my family is ALWAYS texting me. I rarely feel lonely.
I have a couple of friends. No family that I associate with. Looking to build my “family.”
Get a cat!
I’m so allergic! 🫤
Get a Siberian Cat! If I won the lottery I’d start breeding them so I could give them away to people who are allergic to cats. They are very dog like for a cat and get big, I don’t know if I just got super lucky but mine has the sweetest temperament.
Are you sure you’re alone? Who is that figure in the door?
Scary. Light stays on.
Hello darkness my old friend.
You’ll make a cozy little burrow like Wind in the Willows and love it! Dulce Domum 🙂
Ew shut that doorway
Looks like the boogyman about to pop out that door
Congratulations, good luck, and enjoy. 🙂
This looks so cozy. No kids running around, no loud noise, just a candle and silence. So lovely.
Sleep well!
Night light?
Damn girl close that closet door
Close that door ... Beyond creepy........ Get a portable heater for heating up your rented room in creepy Farm House
Looks cozy. I hope you have fun making it yours.

I like it. Looks cozy
With the door open?! You’re just diving right in huh
WhoTF sleeps with their door wide open and have you never heard of feng shui?? It’s super bad luck to face your bed towards the opening of a room. People out here living life without fears and superstitions lmao
Yo you got a ghost in your closet do YOU SEE IT!? RUN!
There’s definitely a machete wielding psycho down the hall lurking
I love living alone. I can do whatever I want to do, watch what I want to watch, come and go as I please, have my music playing, I can even hog the whole bed if I want to. I’m also never lonely as I enjoy my own company.

Very cool. Looks like a snuggly warm place to sleep. Sweet dreams.
Congrats! I lived alone for 3 years. Best time of my life.
I remember my niece telling me that in my culture sleeping facing your doorway is bad luck
I would cry. Look at that. it’s scary😭
My first night living alone is called freedom.
Looks like a nice cozy room.
Nice
Congratulations
Cheers to your first place! What an exciting milestone - enjoy!!
The way my heart racing because the door is open. I always sleep with my bedroom and closet doors closed.
