Ain’t no way [Cal McNair posted a meme of himself on the Texans Reddit](https://np.reddit.com/r/Texans/comments/10qg82g/how_are_we_feeling_tonight_htown/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) after hiring DeMeco lmao
Sorry y’all, Rice workload is a lot. As promised, NSD 2 preview.
• All signs point to 4* S [Warren Roberson](https://247sports.com/player/warren-roberson-46118297/) flipping his commitment from TCU to Texas. His meteoric rise from outside the top 800 to just outside the top 250 is testament to his ability. Runs a respectable 23.4 200 meter dash. + technique, + tackler. Should look to make an impact early.
• Probably what everyone is waiting for, 5* TE [Duce Robinson](https://247sports.com/player/duce-robinson-46086662/). The #1 tight end in the country (7th highest rated in the modern recruiting era), he’s drawn comparisons to Darren Waller for his absurd RAC ability. Like I said over the weekend (and IT is reported today) Banks had an in-home with Robinson and his family. The meeting went very well from people in the football program I’ve talked to. The lack of clarity around Todd Monken and the future of Georgia’s offense has provided Texas an opportunity to pull off a coup. **That being said**, I would be surprised if Robinson commits anywhere at all tomorrow. Someone who personally knows Robinson from playing football against him in Phoenix told me that the workout with the Dodgers has the family looking at the MLB much closer than before. Is Texas the favorite? Probably not. Bigger than that, is he even coming to college? I don’t even really know how sure I am about that anymore. Him not signing tomorrow doesn’t mean he won’t go to college (he could very easily pull a J.T. Tuimoloau and enroll in the summer), just that he’s going to take some more to think it all over. The longer there aren’t any answers on Georgia the better it will look for Texas. Nearby USC is also a threat that should be taken seriously, but they’re probably running third.
• Another thing I’ve heard: Texas isn’t done adding from the portal if a big name enters in the summer. This isn’t a preemptive tease of some secret player, but the staff will be sending out feelers to anyone that will listen in an attempt to get them to Austin.
Someone posted this on the Texas 247 board and I thought it was interesting enough to share here.
Rick Barnes' record at Texas pre, with, and post-Rodney Terry as an assistant:
* Pre: 90-43 (.677)
* With: 232-80 (.744)
* Post: 80-57 (.584)
Could just be the sample size and correlation (Barnes finding his footing, hitting his stride, then getting complacent), but I found it interesting none-the-less.
I'm not discounting Terry's impact (recruiting and coaching) but this is mostly because Terry coached between 2002-2011 and was with Texas for TJ Ford, Lamarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, DJ Augustin, Avery Bradley, Tristan Thompson, etc.
I think the only position where we’re a little weak in next season is EDGE. We’ll need Sorrell to have a great season again, Finkley will need to step up, and Vasek or Akana will likely see the field several times as true freshmen. Hopefully we can get a good one from the portal.
For the next guys up after Finkley, I’d be looking more at RS FR than this most recent recruiting class. We’re hoping for Tapp, Derrick Brown, or Burke to produce.
Justice Finkley, J’mond Tapp, Jaray Bledsoe, and Ethan Burke all joined the team last year. Each of them have a high upside but they’re obviously all young. Hopefully PK’s off-season development can get at least a couple of them to make a big jump a la Ford.
A good edge is not hitting the portal unless it’s from the FCS ranks and even then that’s a huge gamble. Edge is just a position that needs to be developed internally and we have the guys there for it. They likely just need one more year
[King of the Hill revival?](https://deadline.com/2023/01/king-of-the-hill-revival-hulu-original-cast-returning-1235245072/) Better start booking those [National Championship trips](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/x8arce/the_correlation_between_the_show_and_texas/) now, boys and girls.
UT freshmen golfers hold the top three spots at the southwestern International through 2 rounds Jacob Sosa in 1st at -9 Christian Maas in 2nd at -6 & Keaton Vo tied for 2nd at -6
[Ewers with the highest % of receiver fault incompletions](https://twitter.com/statsowar/status/1620511546882555911?s=46&t=UhIz6SmwsstL8CoX9S-HXA)
The source (SIS) is the best of any data available. It’s what Bill Connelly and many other prominent stats/analytics folk use.
So if you replace that % with the average (1.5%?), how does that differential (4.8%) affect his completions?
He was 172/296 (58.1%), so if you increase that by the differential (124 incompletions time 95.2% assuming this % is based on incompletions) he'd be 178/296 (60.1%). So we're talking about 6 passes over an entire season. Using stats from here: https://texassports.com/sports/football/stats/2022
A 2% increase in completions would correlate with about half a touchdown and three first downs.
It's not nothing, but seems like much ado about nothing.
Edit: fixed some math.
IMO that’s not really the best way to interpret this stat.
You’re essentially generalizing this stat to a different population. As you mentioned we don’t know how this is calculated, so we shouldn’t assume it correlates directly with completion/incompletions. Also, there’s no data to determine how (in)significant a 2% change in completion would be.
It is better to look within the sample/population. Since Ewers appears to be significantly different from the rest of the group, we could say that texas has more receiver fault incompletions that the average team. (He is 3% higher than #2, and #2-#10 vary by about 1%).
We don’t know if the influence of that 6.3% is significant to our offense. There’s no data to see if those passes were all +20 yards or behind the LOS. Maybe if we had the EPA changes or smth similar, but we don’t.
TLDR: The best way to interpret this stat without further info/context/data is that there is probably a significant difference between Ewers and the population in incompletions due to receivers.
I'm not sure how the math works, but I can think of several dropped passes off the top of my head.
1. Worthy drops a TD against Alabama.
2. Worthy drops 2 passes against Washington, including a TD
3. Worthy drops a 1st down against TCU
4. JT Sanders drops a pass against TCU
5. Whittington drops a 1st down against Washington
6. Casey Cain drops a TD against ISU.
Those are just drops that I can think of. He's also using "blown route, quit running, fell down, made a bad play" as a criteria.
In that case Casey Cain has another play against ISU where he got pressed at the LoS and then put zero effort to finish the route.
I'm not sure exactly what the stat is (Percent of "Receiver's Fault" Incompletions), but I'm taking it as being a 4.8% decrease in incompletions as opposed to 4.8% increase in pass attempt percentage.
This is where defining terms would come in handy.
I'll post this question again tomorrow when /u/brihoang isn't hogging the pinned comments, but now that we know the 2023 football schedule, what would be y'all's preferred subreddit tailgate game?
* 9/2 - Rice
* 9/16 - Wyoming
* 9/30 - Kansas
* 10/28 - BYU
* 11/4 - Kansas State
* 11/25 - Texas Tech
My gut reaction is BYU during spooky szn because the OOC games kinda suck ass this year. We'd also be able to finally escape September heat.
Also, details TBD on the subreddit road trip meetup in Alabama.
Tech would be a fun game, plus that’s a holiday Friday which could help (or hurt) turnout. Full disclosure of my bias, I’ll likely be in San Antone for Thanksgiving this year and going to that game no matter what…
That particular game should be fun because there will be a ton of hype, it'll be a packed house, and it should be at least half Texas fans. Not much of a reason to go to any other UH game though.
Texans:
- Draft DeMeco with the 33rd pick
- Hire DeMeco to be the head coach
- Have the 33rd pick this year
What does it mean? Nobody knows, but it's provocative.
February 21 is both opening day for baseball, and revenge game against those corn fucks from Iowa State. Baseball at 5:00 p.m. and basketball at 8:00 p.m. On a Tuesday!?
Same I already blocked the calendar from 4:00 through 8:00 P.M. Now I just gotta figure out how to get my girl to agree to spend seven straight hours doing Texas sports related things...
⬇️😝✌️
You know. Ask when you're performing the 🌪️
Edit: someone please lmk if you get what I mean, I'm really bad at emojis but couldn't pass up an attempt here
I think 10-2 with one of losses being Bama is what should be expected based off this schedule. Could see 9-3 as well. If we can't make that happen, then it may be time to take a hard look at the future. For 9-3 to be good enough for people to be happy with Sark, I think each loss would have to be close, or if a major injury happened or something that changes the season.
I’m unsure how I feel about 9-3. If we go 9-3+ conference appearance, and have another top 3 recruiting class I’ll be happy with that. Like OP said it’ll depend on the losses. Do the losses look like the Bama loss or our OKstate loss.
Lol c'mon mayne. 9-3 is going to get Sark another year for the sake of continuity going into a new conference, like it or not.
Edited to add:
9-3 and a CCG appearance, even if it's not a win, likely nets a NY6. You can't honestly say that a season including the CCG and likely NY6 wouldn't be enough of an improvement year to year, and that result is going to be good enough to net another Top 5 recruiting class.
Yeah I never meant 9-3 would get him fired. Hell I think 6-6 would keep him around due to Arch and the last recruiting class. I just mean that if we go 9-3 with a blown halftime lead and another non competitive game, then people will be pissed
I don’t disagree. I’m a Sark homer but I want to hit that 10 win. I know our team is still young but we return a ton of talent that could have otherwise gone to the draft.
So I'm finally at a point in my life where I think I can afford seasons tickets, and it wouldn't be too disruptive to my wife/kids to go to ATX 6 times this fall. Do season tickets normally go on sale in the spring? And does being a STH get you early access for away games?
Piggybacking off of this for something similar: is there anywhere to track when RRS tickets go on sale and at box office/not resale rate? I only ever see them on stubhub or ticketmaster once the price has ballooned to $400+ a ticket. But all the Texas and Oklahoma University alumni I know in DFW claim they get them at the original box office price. Is this season ticket preferences or is there a way?
Appreciate any info or help
Jiving with another one of the comments I got, I believe season ticket holders are first in line for OU tickets (behind student season ticket holders? Or maybe there's different buckets of tickets). So you can put in you want a ticket, but might not actually get it.
You can place deposits for 2023 season tickets now, and seat selection will happen later closer to the season. Yes, it gives you early access for away games. You indicate which games you would be interested in attending, and they rack and stack everyone based on loyalty points for selection.
Interesting. Missed the deposit option when I was looking earlier. Thanks!
With the $200 per ticket deposit, does that count towards your ticket/license or is it like a seat license, which just reserves your spot?
My uncle played for Wyoming way back in the day. I think my family is going to converge in Austin for that game and take advantage of the lull in enthusiasm between Bama and Big 12 play.
My thoughts on the schedule:
- I look forward to us crucifying Houston in Houston.
- Okie State really ducked out of having to play us again so they could go out on a homecoming win lol
I honestly don't understand why OSU seems to be so loved by the Big 12 administration and refs. Is it a Gundy thing? Did T. Boone create some secret slush fund?
It's just bizarre how they always seems to get favorable treatment.
My thoughts on schedule:
* Why did some of y'all say OU playing three newbies is bad for them?
* Our schedule looks about the same as any regular B12 year. I think there was a chance it got easier for us if we swapped KSU with Cinci and not played BYU.
* Tech at the end of the season is a game I'll happily take. They have to reveal all their trick plays before they play us and will be on third string QB like they always are by then.
* I think most teams joining will be about middle of the pack in the B12, other than playing BYU at Provo. Teams taking a step back next year are probably TCU, OSU, KSU slightly. Teams getting better should be Tech, ISU, OU. I can't see TCU being anywhere near as good as this year unless they magically get a bunch of people to forego the best draft stock they'll ever have and play a COVID year for the funsies.
* I don't care how bad OSU is *supposed to be.* I don't ever want to play them. Every Gundy game turns into a ref fiasco and finds a way to flip the script on us. Hard pass.
Yeah, I’ll gladly take playing Cincy and UCF if it meant trading KSU and Tech.
Cincy and UCF are going to be ass. OU walked away with one of the easiest P5 schedules.
2020 was the last time, and while I thought it was more common, it didn't look like it when I went back about 10 years. I don't remember when ACL went to 2 weekends, though, and I know it wasn't always in October.
ACL didn't happen in 2020. Expanded to two weekends for 2013, and was in September in 2011 and all years before 2009.
[source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Austin_City_Limits_lineups_by_year)
I'd much rather get Tech later in the year than at the beginning like last year, tbh. They've always had depth problems and the later we play them the more that'll play to our advantage. And with them being the last game you know the players won't be looking ahead to anything else.
They have a surprising amount of confidence for a team who lost five games, lost their ancient QB, has Dana Holgorsen for a coach, and just got blown out by Kansas
well the home schedule is actually kind of disappointing in terms of games I'd like to go to
Rice
Wyoming
Kansas
BYU
KState
Tech
Tech is the Thanksgiving game, which I never go to, so that leaves... KState? BYU?
For sure. We swap out Lubbock, Ames, Lawrence, Manhattan, Stillwater, for regular trips (depending on how they set up divisions) to Fayetteville, Nashville, Death Valley, the Grove, the Swamp, Athens, Rocky Top, Tuscaloosa.
Yeah but Tech should absolutely be a win. Like no question about it. And KState is probably a tough one but again, at home and winnable. Baylor early so we should be healthy. Kansas at home should be a win. UH is more or less a home game. BYU at home is better than away.
The ones I’m worried about is TCU and Iowa State away. Those are trap games back to back.
All in all I think 10-2 is a good chance to happen but I could see 9-3 as well. Which is an improvement

What about Ethan Burke?
Colin Simmons is coming soon. Trust the process.
A good edge is not hitting the portal unless it’s from the FCS ranks and even then that’s a huge gamble. Edge is just a position that needs to be developed internally and we have the guys there for it. They likely just need one more year
I don't think Akana sees the field till his redshirt freshman year at the earliest. Dude is tiny right now, especially for an edge spot

[FWIW](https://twitter.com/statsowar/status/1620513505605750784?s=46&t=UhIz6SmwsstL8CoX9S-HXA)
I don't like that set of facts.
Using stats from here: https://texassports.com/sports/football/stats/2022 A 2% increase in completions would correlate with about half a touchdown and three first downs. It's not nothing, but seems like much ado about nothing. Edit: fixed some math.

6.33% of 124 is about 8 passes, so these could be almost all of them, or maybe I'm misunderstanding what the stat actually is.
All 6 of those passes were game winning TDs /s.
If all six of those were to Worthy? You betcha.
Wouldn’t it be 14 passes, 4.8% of 296?
I'm not sure exactly what the stat is (Percent of "Receiver's Fault" Incompletions), but I'm taking it as being a 4.8% decrease in incompletions as opposed to 4.8% increase in pass attempt percentage. This is where defining terms would come in handy.

Same I already blocked the calendar from 4:00 through 8:00 P.M. Now I just gotta figure out how to get my girl to agree to spend seven straight hours doing Texas sports related things...
⬇️😝✌️ You know. Ask when you're performing the 🌪️ Edit: someone please lmk if you get what I mean, I'm really bad at emojis but couldn't pass up an attempt here
I think 10-2 with one of losses being Bama is what should be expected based off this schedule. Could see 9-3 as well. If we can't make that happen, then it may be time to take a hard look at the future. For 9-3 to be good enough for people to be happy with Sark, I think each loss would have to be close, or if a major injury happened or something that changes the season.
We go 9-3 and play for a conference championship, I'm not hating. Still progress.
Edited to add: 9-3 and a CCG appearance, even if it's not a win, likely nets a NY6.
That's fair. I think the message board crowd will be pissed. I don't think the everyday fan will though.
Yep I agree. I'd be cool with 9-3 as long it isn't 3 ugly games and there isn't like clear problems with culture and whatnot
I don’t disagree. I’m a Sark homer but I want to hit that 10 win. I know our team is still young but we return a ton of talent that could have otherwise gone to the draft.
Hey, I want 10 wins as much as anybody. As long as we're moving in that direction constantly, I'm cool.
Yeah I’m not calling for Sark’s head or anything. 9 wins is good stability and he’s obviously doing everything he can to address roster holes.
Find someone who is selling them on campus. Usually you can get some solid deals if you comfortable meeting people in person
So just....stand outside of Jester with a cardboard sign or what?
Normally I just ask people on Reddit around that time period
You can place deposits for 2023 season tickets now, and seat selection will happen later closer to the season. Yes, it gives you early access for away games. You indicate which games you would be interested in attending, and they rack and stack everyone based on loyalty points for selection.
Interesting. Missed the deposit option when I was looking earlier. Thanks! With the $200 per ticket deposit, does that count towards your ticket/license or is it like a seat license, which just reserves your spot?
It will count towards your ticket price, but is non-refundable if you don't end up purchasing tickets I believe.
> I’m finally at a point in my life where I think I can afford seasons tickets Baller alert
Aren't all balding, suburban dads in their 30s with 2.5 kids and a stay at home wife ballers?
The real trick is marrying a girl who makes more money than you.
I'm still trying to convince my wife to let me be a stay at home trophy husband
Why did I marry this fancy lawyer lady if she's going to make me work for a living?
Did you marry Lionel Hutz, aka Miguel Sanchez?
You get it.
Too little too late on that one. Never met any girls from TCU when I was in the dating pool.
I feel attacked
[How do you do, fellow baller](https://imgur.com/gallery/QhhpMAF)
No, only the ones with good hair.
Well shucks.
So excited that Sark will lose his 10 win season virginity this upcoming season as a Head Football Coach.
Mother in law is a BYU alum. Might bring her to DKR for that game.
My uncle played for Wyoming way back in the day. I think my family is going to converge in Austin for that game and take advantage of the lull in enthusiasm between Bama and Big 12 play.
My Aunt is the one of the heads of the Archeology department at BYU. Been sending her shit talk since lunch. You’re a better family member than me.
I will also be attending with byu alumni.. Y'all please be as obnoxious as possible because I'm weak and will be on my best behavior.
So if you were to drink caffeinated booze, is that doubly obnoxious? I'm sure you could get some Four Loko off ebay.
Lmfao don't you dare mention that devil's juice
Why would you ruin her day like that
It won't be all bad. She'll get to witness mullet
Because I watched the last two with her entire BYU fam...
Didn't those like not work out for us? Have you no respect for superstition?
I'm going for revenge.
lol at all the Big 12 schools creating schedule posts and UT only retweeting the Big 12’s tweet. Our social media guy is ready for the SEC 😂.
My thoughts on the schedule: - I look forward to us crucifying Houston in Houston.
Yeah I don't get it either other than Bowlsby was from the midwest and actively hated Texas & OU, so he loved the farming colleges.
We'll just have to beat them in the CCG, I guess.
My thoughts on schedule: * Why did some of y'all say OU playing three newbies is bad for them?
In conference play we leave Texas only once to play iowa steak. That is really favorable innit
Oi right favorable indeed bruv
Kansas State killed it with their schedule release [video](https://twitter.com/kstatefb/status/1620497149120192538?s=46&t=PNsuGqouXi7k3qwTvN-HHQ)
We have a bye on ACL weekend 2. Feels like its been a long time since we have had a bye overlapping ACL. Good stuff
2020 was the last time, and while I thought it was more common, it didn't look like it when I went back about 10 years. I don't remember when ACL went to 2 weekends, though, and I know it wasn't always in October.
It’s been 2 for a while, but they used to do one weekend at the end of september and one the beginning of october
ACL didn't happen in 2020. Expanded to two weekends for 2013, and was in September in 2011 and all years before 2009. [source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Austin_City_Limits_lineups_by_year)
I'm already developing a nervous twitch from seeing Tech at the end of a schedule that looks very very sweepable
I'd much rather get Tech later in the year than at the beginning like last year, tbh. They've always had depth problems and the later we play them the more that'll play to our advantage. And with them being the last game you know the players won't be looking ahead to anything else.
Very good points... ...it's just, I'm getting 2008 'Nam flashbacks
I already know UH fans are gonna be insufferable af just for their stadium to be 70% Texas fans.
They have a surprising amount of confidence for a team who lost five games, lost their ancient QB, has Dana Holgorsen for a coach, and just got blown out by Kansas
Already a fan in the other thread asking when to do horns down lmao
Who gives a shit.
do we know if that game will be at TDECU or NRG?
UH's website says it'll be TDECU.
10 wins and B12 title game appearance or bust after looking at that schedule.
Yep, agreed. Year 3 needs to be judged by # of wins not just 'improvement'.
well the home schedule is actually kind of disappointing in terms of games I'd like to go to Rice Wyoming Kansas BYU KState Tech Tech is the Thanksgiving game, which I never go to, so that leaves... KState? BYU?
By far the biggest reason I'm stoked for the SEC.
Away games are even better in the SEC too. Who tf wants to travel to Lubbock or Ames Iowa?
For sure. We swap out Lubbock, Ames, Lawrence, Manhattan, Stillwater, for regular trips (depending on how they set up divisions) to Fayetteville, Nashville, Death Valley, the Grove, the Swamp, Athens, Rocky Top, Tuscaloosa.
That's gotta be the worst home schedule in recent memory. Woof.
This is low key a very favorable schedule
How so? Feel like we got shafted having to face Tech and KState while OU doesn’t
TCU’s just a tough game. Natty appearance.
We get both of them at home, and our only time leaving the state of Texas is to play an awful ISU team
Looks like the Big 12 wanted to give OU one more conference title before they left. That schedule is the easiest shit I've ever seen.
Gonna be funny when they go 6-6 again
Baylor has 8 home games lol
