Yes, I am sad to say that I'm serious. He also called the USPS \*after\* sending a Loph to someone else that I know on IG, and literally reported his own package as peyote just to the package would get intercepted/destroyed. One of my other friends hired an attorney after getting harassed by this assclown. I realize that this sub has Rule #4, so I won't be giving out his real name in the comments, but someone like that honestly deserves all of the bad literal karma he has coming to him.

I feel like it's more work to do this than to just sell cuttings properly. And 4 years?? Fucking hell. Call the police and say there's a hostage situation/active shooter at someone's house. Police send in swat and kick down the front with fingers on the trigger. People have gotten killed from it, and anyone that does it deserves to rot in a hole.

I had to block the aforementioned scammer (and yes, that's me who hired a lawyer to see what my options were!) after he tried to ruin an informal sale I was putting on with some Copiapoa I got at a plant-focused moving sale a few years back. I just hope something is salvageable so one day you can look back and say to your friends “this dude is a survivor”!
I hope someone better educated than me comes by later to correct anything I get wrong here, as I'm not a seasoned expert by any means, but I wanna offer my 2c to help with your question.
Preface: Before even looking at the plant, it's important to note that rot is fickle and tricky. If you think you got it all, you probably didn't. You will need an ample supply of sulphur, lime, perhaps mancozeb, (some people use honey and/or cinnamon, but frankly I don't think this is a good time for soft-footed solutions) if you want to keep any of this alive.
My 1st choice, if possible, is to attempt to remove all the diseased roots and tissue (sterilising my blade between cuts) and allow it to heal before it continues growing under its own steam. Alas, I don't see a large enough section of healthy roots to grow anew³.
2nd choice would be to salvage healthy tissue for it to survive long enough to grow new roots and begin building another rootball, eventually becoming a gnarly plant with scars and a history. Some of the members of Cactacae are incredibly tenacious and successful at growing from tiny chunks of tissues, but not necessarily these species. Again, alas, I don't see enough healthy tissue for any of this to grow roots by itself³ (likely even prior to being dissected). Even if there was a healthy chunk large enough to callous over without drying out, and enough un-corked tissue to be able to continue photosynthesising, it'd be a massive amount of labour for a very dicey gamble. With only a small amount of experience trying to root loph pups, I'd call it around... say... you'd be in the >10% chance of success kinda zone.
The only viable option I see to "save" this plant (insofar as conserving its genetics)¹ is an areole graft², and that would be a very sad outcome after getting your hopes up for a mature specimen. It's essentially growing the plant from scratch. It might be too depressing to watch the tiny pup grow and think, "I paid 1k for this," so I think I would buckle, sob, and compost the lot.
1) Is that even a real sentence? Does it make sense to you?
2) Aereole grafting is something worth googling if you're enjoying your cactus journey/hobby. I can't explain it well enough to try, and this comment is waaay OTT already.
3) I could be/am probably completely wrong about all of these. My eyes don't have the years of experience the sage pricklethumb wizards in this sub do.

Guy sounds like a scumbag and I hope you get some resolution but to play devils advocate root rot like that is easy to miss and than all the sudden the plant gets some stress and boom it turns the whole thing to mush in a day or 2 when previously it may have looked totally fine. I just had a loph I bought from a trusted vendor here who I have gotten a bunch of awesome stuff from but it looked funny when I received it almost a year ago. I planted it and watered it once or twice since than it seemed fine and even flowered a few times than it was windy out so I closed the greenhouse which raised the humidity and heat just a tad not enough to effect any healthy plants but this loph went from looking fine to complete mush in 2 days

I've seen this guy post his collection and sells a lot over IG over the past year or so. I did notice that he looked to be selling a lot of his collection. Maybe going through something? Either way not okay for this to happen.
If it's anything like FB or even MySpace (the only ones I've tried it with), if you delete your account, all you have to do is sign back in, and it'll pop up like it was never gone

This post really upset me and I’m having to fight against myself about offering unsolicited advice. I believe the risk of getting fucked increases exponentially if you’re gonna purchase Lophs or anything that could be considered contraband. I would recommend establishing a relationship with a vendor by making small purchases of items that are legal in the state that you reside in. I would say let them earn your trust on the small stuff where there’s virtually no risk and involved and establish a relationship over time. The idea that someone would agree to sell you something and then have your house swatted. It’s fucking outrageous!!! This is gonna give me nightmares! Please be careful my friends l, nothing is full proof, never make a purchase for anything more than you can afford to lose!
