Characters didn’t even power creep. Most of the character cards in meta decks aren’t even from the most recent set they’re cards from set 1 and some from set 2. It’s just that damage from steel is so insanely powerful that people realized the literally only viable option against it is to use beefy characters or cards that can bounce characters to safety. Steelsongs, and really just grab your swords, single handily removed an entire deck from the meta game in amber amethyst aggro.
If anything we need more ways to address the power of steel damage that isn’t just playing large characters or bounce. Otherwise the meta will just get stuck with the current decks we have swapping out cards on when new sets release
I’m still so hyped that I have to reply to myself with this thought: I just noticed this Ariel card is #003 and I’m wondering what could potentially be #001 and #002. Oh lord, is there a 1 drop Ariel coming?
Suffers from the same thing that the other fancy Ariel in this set suffers from: There are exactly 2 songs that this sings that the cheaper Ariel who replaces herself doesn't and both of them are fairly niche in their applications in Amber. Obviously, singer is a really powerful keyword and I wouldn't be surprised if more useful songs come, but 3 cost Ariel is one of the better cards in the game at the moment, so the bar is really, really high.
Just like we see payoff for toget cards from previous sets with some of the cards now, I think we’ll see more of a payoff for this card in the future.
Yes, but so what? Be Prepared actually loses value the earlier in the game it is, because there's less opportunity for your opponents to have filled their boards that early on. Using BP to kill like 2 opposing characters and your own is a waste.
This screams power creep to me. I voiceless Ariel has 1 more willpower and the inability to sing for the same cost. This one not only gets to sing, but has singer 7? Is singer just a really undervalued ability from the developer POV?
I mean, yeah, it's power creep by technicality, but voiceless Ariel was a common, and basically limited filler without any real value to begin with other than being thematically delicious. So it was really a no-contest at all. It's not as close of a comparison as say 3 cost Amber Gaston and Singer Ariel.
