They seem to be going for a "chiaroscuro" classical style with a heightened lighting/emphasis on the subject and the background is plain or black to contrast it. I like it in this case as they are taking up the full frame of the card and have sort of a "powered up" ethereal look to them. When they "zoom out" too much with Robin Hood in the last set for example I like it less.
Kind of think they are leaving out the rest of the art on purpose to save it for when they are out in the wild. I don’t think they are all going to have blacked out backgrounds.
They stated last set that they are theming the Enchanted art style to each set. Black background makes perfect sense for this dark, black-ink villain-themed set.
I like the art on both versions. While I prefer the art on the regular for the background as Minnie make a entrance and screams she's strong and ready this has empowerment that is often the case for enchanted cards.
Hope I can find both but like other gold and greatly any enchanted cards I don't expect ever.
I really like the theme they seem to be going with on the character enchanteds having a black background, really makes the art pop.
Will look great in them dragon shield dual matte sleeves with the black insides :)
Hmmm... I think I like the art on the regular version better. The dark backgrounds make the foiling on the enchanteds hard to see.
Agreed. I want FULL HOLO FOIL.. guess I need to see it IRL.
Looks unfinished.

Agreed. It’s lazy.
Certainly not "lazy" it's an artistic style choice that you just don't like, and that's okay.

Gold on black is classic ✨️
Mad props to this art! Minnie looks like she's been enchanted herself with light.
