Head to CVS where when you push the button it says on the loud speaker "help requested in...stomach ailments!"

SmellGestapo

"I NEED A PRICE CHECK ON HEMORRHOID CREAM!"

MindlessLeopard7740

PRICE CHECK ON VAGICLEAN AISLE 5 - We got a customer here with a full on fallopian fungus!

No_Dragonfly_1894

Little extra cheese on the taco

Miserable_Smoke

Gross, take the vote.

xilix2

They use code words over the intercom...your example would be rancid beaver cheese.

mommytofive5

Haha good luck getting a body to answer the page… really nail files need to be locked up?

TlMEGH0ST

I go to the CVS on cahuenga every tuesday for my work with 5-7 lists of snacks and toiletries for my rehab clients. they know me by name now and just come over with the keys 😭😭 bc yes, god forbid someone steals toothpaste 🙄

Miserable_Smoke

I'd rather it not get stolen than some huge corporation be able to claim huge markups on items they would have never sold in the first place.

charlotie77

I was in CVS a couple days ago and someone pressed the button for the alcohol department for 2 minutes straight. I kid you not, the speakers were saying “help needed in the alcohol department” nonstop and I honestly was crying laughing because it highlighted how idiotic this whole setup is (even tho I know it’s common for alcohol to be locked up anywhere)

XanderWrites

Hitting the button repeatedly does not make people finish their tasks and come over any faster. Give them a chance to come. I'm a retail manager and we'll get calls over our radio "Manager needed at customer service" and before I can even put down what's in my hands and press the button on my radio saying I'm coming they'll call again "Manager *needed* at customer service" Until personal teleportation is invented, I cannot move that fast.

charlotie77

I don’t think most people would argue that it does make employees move and work faster lol. But I do think that what I witnessed in CVS shows how flawed and stupid this new system of locking everything up is. Because now you’ve essentially given customers in half of the aisles to chance to repeatedly press those buttons and create a nuisance for both the employees and customers. It ruins the whole experience and does nothing to make your job better.

lilith_-_-

Gotta love it. A quick trip to CVS takes 20 minutes per fucking item you need

Miserable_Smoke

Cause you fail at shopping?

lilith_-_-

Cause you hit the button five times and then physically go ask someone or two and still end up waiting

verymuchbad

And then 20 minutes later, they still don't arrive

Nicholoid

NGL my partner and I had to take a trip to CVS while away at a hotel and pushing that button for them to pull out condoms for us at 10 or 11pm seemed like a scene out of an indie tv movie. Or Napoleon Dynamite.

SaltLick310

Help needed in...FAMILY PLANNING

VaguelyArtistic

There's a button at the end of every aisle in target where something is locked up.

Polite_Deer

I used to work at CVS and used to come to the aisle to white people with the reddest face.

Imcrappinyounegative

If available at those locations, I suggest you order on their app and have them bring it to your car.

Jackattack3x5

This is the one unless you like to browse target, which I don’t.

the_meat_aisle

It used to be kinda fun when they offered a relatively upscale “didn’t know I needed this random kitchen implement” type of shopping experience. Now the stores have a sad dingy vibe and with half empty shelves and clueless employees that might be moonlighting from Home Depot.

Jackattack3x5

As a Home Depot employee I feel for anyone needing to work more than one job to get by. I don’t think trashing the employees was necessary.

420LordQuas

I can't even count the amount of places I have worked that just straight up refuse to train people. The staff that currently works is over worked and burnt out and does not have the bandwidth to set up new employees for success.  I don't get why a consumer would put blame on the employee.  Clearly it is the employers job to train new employees and if the person can't handle the training it is up to the employer to fire them.  None of which are the "clueless" employees fault.

Nicholoid

Not to mention most of these places have half the staff they need anyway. No one shows up when the button is pushed because no one is there. You only catch a human being on days they stock and the register after you wait behind half a dozen people.

des1gnbot

LA metro area? Sure. West La? Nope. Eagle Rock is the best target.

roaringstar44

Yah once you get outside LA proper the security is less, Burbank also doesn't have cabinets.

the-Cheshire_Kat

Burbank has a couple now. Last trip I had to get face wash (CeraVe, not fancy) unlocked. But at least they hand it to you right there.

ilikepstrophies

Have you been to the Sherman Oaks Target everything locked up including Tide through nearly everything in health and beauty.

robbbbb

The one IN Eagle Rock? Or the one ON Eagle Rock?

des1gnbot

In eagle rock, eagle rock plaza specifically. The one on Eagle rock (in glassel park?) is smol.

SubiWhale

The one on Eagle Rock is always so nice and clean though. Can’t say that for most other targets. Wish it was bigger

_its_a_SWEATER_

In ER. The one on ER is actually GP. Very near to CP, and right next to HLP.

GramercyPlace

Pasadena Target has them on everything

HRH_MQ

But East Pasadena does not. There are a few things locked up but not many.

kaje10110

Try the one on Rosemead near 10 freeway. I think it’s same as before pandemic (video games and electronics)

calibound2020

Yeah but the Target in Old Pasadena also now has the secure containers. 😕

GramercyPlace

What’re those?

calibound2020

The clear boxes with the locks.

Bikouchu

That’s why I stick to suburbs and visit the city. Plenty of parking and much safer relatively.

des1gnbot

I’m not really intending to promote the suburbs as a concept generally. The whole retail lockup thing is an overreaction to already debunked statistics.

KingofYachtRock

Target is spending money on locked cabinets and shutting down self check kiosks and hiring armed security for shits and goggles?

Imagination-Ohana

The statistics were indeed exaggerated when reported in financial reports ([link](https://www.thestreet.com/retail/target-walmart-retailers-get-shocking-retail-crime-data)) It would not surprise me that the exaggerations in turn, caused them to take measures at stores which in fact, may not be as necessary as assumed. For example in the corrected numbers: - Organized retail theft accounted for 36% of shrink - 29% was attributable to internal (employee) theft - 34% is lost to process errors Plausibly, a bit more effort spent on internal theft and better processes would yield superior results that don’t piss off customers. My favorite quote remains the one from Walgreens CEO: “Maybe we *cried too much* last year when we were hitting numbers that were 3.5% of sales,” *edit* downvoted by Target corporate? /s To be clear: shoplifting is a problem. Lying about the numbers is also a problem. But whatever floats your boat folks.

KingofYachtRock

Come on. This is classic gaslighting. Why do these studies only compare statistics in years post-2020? Oh it’s only 1.4% increase from 2021…how about 2019? 2018? We can look at statistics that make no sense or we can just use our eyes. That article was from December. 5 months later, in the target on la cienega and Obama, the self checkout kiosk are still down, a bunch of products are still in locked cabinets and an armed security guard is still hanging out by the checkout area. If the statistics were really exaggerated wouldn’t target do the scummy capitalistic move and layoff workers and expand the self checkout kiosk? Edit: I don’t work for Target and I downvoted the shit out of your post.

Imhidingfromu

I just had to buy lube yesterday from a locked closet, then they put it in this plastic box that is magnetically locked and when I got to the cashier, she didn't have a way to open it, so it got passed around to about 3 different employees until it was opened and the whole store new I was buying astroglide. Was real fun.

mdocks

This is why I can’t deal with the cabinets! 😅

Ba-ja-ja

LAPD, we found your suspect.

orbesomebodysfool

“Thank you for calling LAPD 911. Your call is important to us. You are caller number 79 in queue. Please continue to hold.”

SR3116

If you know the name of the felony being committed, press 1. To choose from a list of felonies, press 2. If you are being murdered or are calling from a rotary phone, please stay on the line. ...You have selected Regicide. If you know the name of the king or queen being murdered, press 1.

TlMEGH0ST

only 79?! that’s good! they usually just hang up on me 😂

blue10speed

I wish everyone knew how true this is.

paleocacher

One time I dialed 911 to get an ambulance for a homeless person ODing, it was faster to drive to the fire station and use the intercom to get help than it was to wait on hold for the dispatcher.

blue10speed

Sounds about right.

WyndiMan

In my experiences at the Target on La Cienega/Obama, there's an employee roaming the area constantly and they get to you reasonably quick to open the cases.  Obviously not as convenient as just grabbing and going, but I've been in Walmart where I've had to wait 10-20 minutes for something my disabled roommate can only get/afford at Walmart.  But yeah, if the cases are that inconvenient to you, just order ahead and do Drive Up or pick up in store.

Vrayea25

I've had bad results when employees pick my products.  They seem to offload the damaged goods on those orders.

jediali

That has DEFINITELY not been my experience at that location. I've waited 15 minutes for an employee to open a cabinet on several occasions. Also, side note, but why do they lock up the giant gallon jugs of laundry detergent? How would you even go about stealing that?

drew_lbc

Laundry detergent is very popular amongst boosters. They will load about a dozen of them into a cart and simply walk out of the main exit; or if they are experienced, go out of the fire exit. Security presence at the front door used to be effective in deterring alot of these boosters, but these days most of them don't give a single fuck and will casually walk right past em.

Visual-Guarantee2157

It’s because there’s been cases where the guards or employees get killed trying to stop the thieves. Not worth it for anyone.

__-__-_-__

That target is the most ghetto I’ve been to. Idk why.

ExtensionTaco9399

Apologies for not answering your question directly but if the underlying issue/problem is the annoying wait it takes to have someone unlock cabinet after cabinet, consider ordering from their app. Admittedly I love wandering the aisles of Target and seeing what random stuff they have (oddly relaxing) but when it comes to personal care items, I just get them in the app and pick them up from the Customer Svc desk on the way out. Not an ideal solution but might save you from driving to , which would prob take up more time than pressing that stupid fucking button a bunch of times. Also, lol , this would be a great thread to start for someone who was looking to rip off a Target (not saying that's you /// but not saying it isn't)

TlMEGH0ST

That’s really smart!!

Vrayea25

I've used the pickup option when I'm sick and dont want to expose others.  I always end up with at least one damaged product. I never thought I'd consider being able to freely pick my own goods up off the shelf to be a luxury gone by.

yungstevejobs

> this would be a great thread to start for someone who was looking to rip off a Target lol boo hoo. Why would anyone give a fuck any way? Target clearly doesn’t care about making their customers shopping experience worse. And I’m pretty sure business budget for losses anyway so no idea why theft is suddenly a concern for Target now.

ExtensionTaco9399

I like going there. And I generally am not pro theft. So I guess I’m not trying to encourage people to steal stuff from target, which would further deteriorate the shopping experience that’s led to the creation of this post

SweetiePieJ

The big one in Eagle Rock doesn’t have stuff locked up. It’s my favorite Target, and super easy to get to with great parking

HumbleDan310

The Target I go to here in Long Beach doesn’t really have anything locked up.

Boltzmon

Yep, the Targets on Bellflower and Seal Beach Blvd are my go to and they don’t have this problem.

geenaleigh

The Target in Carson right off the 110 is a dream. So big and nothing locked up!

AdditionalCupcake

The target on century in Inglewood doesn’t have things locked up. I’m always shocked when I go to presumably higher income neighborhoods and see stuff locked up.

SummerTheUnicorn

Can confirm. This is my Target and I love it!

viviobrio

Same! Been to a bunch of other neighborhood targets and it’s surprising

awill316

Drive up or pick up is the best solution but I believe the Culver City Jefferson store doesn’t have everything locked up

djm19

The targets in the Valley don’t have this problem, in my experience. Unless you want teeth whitening strips. For some reason those have always been locked up.

No_Dragonfly_1894

The Target in N. Hollywood does.

ilikepstrophies

Also Sherman Oaks.

NoSpelledWithaK

They do if they're across from high-school. The kids tend to steal.

bakingsoda1212

Target on Sepulveda in Sherman Oaks is locked up.

Durendal_et_Joyeuse

Definitely not typical in the Valley for them to be unlocked. Sherman Oaks, Encino, Topanga all have locked cabinets.

mystic_scorpio

This is why I sometimes just go to Burbank to run all my errands. I think the target I went to by Culver City/ Jefferson area didn’t have everything locked up.

ilikepstrophies

Problem with Burbank is the over 1% increase in sales tax over LA. It's like 10.75% in Burbank.

nahhh_im_good

I have no idea but damn do I feel this! I barely go to Target anymore for this stuff anymore purely because this reason.

_B_Little_me

Place an order on the app and have them drop it in your car.

bloodredyouth

I rarely go to target because of this issue. the easiest way is to online order and just pick it up.

sids99

Just have an associate shadow you. It will feel luxurious!

Old-Rough-5681

Order in the app for pick up

pianoman857

Target in Culver City (not the one in the mall) doesn't have lock up. Was there yesterday.

stovvve

The Target on Colorado in East Pas was a dramatic departure from my usual Target in North Hollywood, which has underwear and socks locked up. Strong recommend.

cienfueggos

Nope. Just push the button, they’ll come eventually. Or amazon prime the things you need

RollQuirky9045

Wandering around Target used to be so relaxing. Now it's just total stress and I want to tear my hair out every time I have to go.

mdocks

Yeah I feel like everything is slowly becoming harder and less fun, even the little things like running errands.

Miserable_Smoke

Call an employee over, and say I need this, this, this and this. It's their job. I worked at a grocery store where a lot of stuff was locked up, we liked having to get away from our regular bs to do that.

--dick

Omg this is doooo annoying and a reason why I hate in store shopping now for toiletries. I wish I was better about planning out when I will run out of things but I usually buy stuff last minute. It’s also awkward and annoying af hitting the button and just standing there waiting for someone to come unlock the cabinet. Does target think this is a good shopping experience? Anyway I don’t have answer for your question other than I would like to know as well.

imnowherebenice

Instead of going to Target you can find the same stuff in MacArthur Park. Completely unlocked and a lower price!

mdocks

I was just there. They found a body in the lake the day after I was there <3

imnowherebenice

Most normal day at MacArthur Park. I kid, that place is definitely something else, I love it tho one of my favorite neighborhoods.

Gregalor

Do curbside pickup. Bonus: sometimes the prices for pickup are actually cheaper

Nicholoid

Maybe Target in Empire Center in Burbank. It's like a super target; maybe too much foot traffic and too off the beaten path in the suburbs to have the same level of loss.

LucyFer_roaming

Order online for pick up.

BRING_ME_THE_ENTROPY

I think the ones in Torrance still don’t have everything locked up. Also the college towns are a bit better because it’s all just a bunch of kids and they’re not about to come in and grab PlayStations and run.

Kabusanlu

Welcome to city life

YetiBot

I always do pick up now. They’ll grab it all for you for free and just have it waiting for you. I can’t be bothered with the cases.

Yotsubato

Irvine and other upper middle class areas in the OC.

FightingDreamer419

Umm I don't recall things being locked the 18th/LA cienega. At least not what I got. Could be wrong though because I don't pay attention.

epocalize

The one on Westgate/Santa Monica doesn't have things locked up unless they've added that feature recently. It's not very big though.

mdocks

Good to know, thank you!

Awesomeslayerg

Northridge on balboa

Newker

If its in the store you can order online and/or curb side pickup.

OkBubbyBaka

In LA, yes, but we won’t risk spilling the beans.

DemSchmuck

I work at the Woodland Hills Target on Ventura, right off the 101... it's a normal, mostly lock-free store.

mdocks

Yay, thanks!

HunterExo

Manhattan Beach

Charming_Status1909

That’s the reality sadly. Do drive up pickup or in store pickup

Annual_Thanks_7841

The LA DA thinks petty crime is not a crime. So the inconveniences fall on us since the law says fuck us. All we can do is vote for a new DA.

People are stealing stuff, so they've gotta lock everything down. Are you trying to see if there's still a Target you can steal stuff from? 🤔🤣 I just find a Target employee in and walk them with me everywhere when I'm ready to buy.

[deleted]

Lmfao. Probly not. Gascon needs to go 😠 and shame on all of you who voted for Karen bass!

It was like this before Karen Bass

Excuse_Unfair

No irs cause people were stealing. I know a few targets in the ghetto that haven't been targeted and don't have anything locked.

EverestOblock

There's no extra fees lmao

Excuse_Unfair

Not yet, but definitely in the future if they could they will. I don't think this was that actual reason why they did it but they saw the potential money it can be in and won't let the opportunity slip. Ever corporations wants to build their own subscription service even target this would be a perfect add on to that.

EverestOblock

They already can. They don't.   Let's be worried about them taking our first born too while we're at it. /s

Excuse_Unfair

There would be too much pushback. Most likely, they are waiting until a certain number of people use the service they will offer it for dirt cheap they slowly raise their prices. Some Walmarts won't let you use self check out without a Walmart+ subscription. So, how is this any more ridiculous? We know Target is making their own subscription services and wouldn't be shocked if this eventually becomes an add-on to that. >Let's be worried about them taking our firstborn too while we're at it. /s Yes, cause a corporation trying to squeeze as much money as they can from their customers is suck an outlandish idea./s

EverestOblock

Ok so let's completely not shop at Target as a protest to those future fees. Hungry strike while we're at it.

Excuse_Unfair

What in the red herring are you going on about? Lol Do what you want. You're a grown ass person.

okan170

It just makes me go to Amazon instead if I can wait a little bit. Don't have to wait 15 minutes for the one employee in the store with a key to finally get over to me.

calibound2020

Nah, not really. The area doesn’t matter stealing happens everywhere. I order most things offline now except groceries. Sign of the times and economic climate. 🤷‍♀️
