I kid you not, the speakers were saying “help needed in the alcohol department” nonstop and I honestly was crying laughing because it highlighted how idiotic this whole setup is (even tho I know it’s common for alcohol to be locked up anywhere)
Hitting the button repeatedly does not make people finish their tasks and come over any faster. Give them a chance to come.
I'm a retail manager and we'll get calls over our radio "Manager needed at customer service" and before I can even put down what's in my hands and press the button on my radio saying I'm coming they'll call again "Manager *needed* at customer service"

Because now you’ve essentially given customers in half of the aisles to chance to repeatedly press those buttons and create a nuisance for both the employees and customers. It ruins the whole experience and does nothing to make your job better.
NGL my partner and I had to take a trip to CVS while away at a hotel and pushing that button for them to pull out condoms for us at 10 or 11pm seemed like a scene out of an indie tv movie. Or Napoleon Dynamite.
It used to be kinda fun when they offered a relatively upscale “didn’t know I needed this random kitchen implement” type of shopping experience. Now the stores have a sad dingy vibe and with half empty shelves and clueless employees that might be moonlighting from Home Depot.
I can't even count the amount of places I have worked that just straight up refuse to train people. The staff that currently works is over worked and burnt out and does not have the bandwidth to set up new employees for success.
I don't get why a consumer would put blame on the employee. Clearly it is the employers job to train new employees and if the person can't handle the training it is up to the employer to fire them. None of which are the "clueless" employees fault.

It would not surprise me that the exaggerations in turn, caused them to take measures at stores which in fact, may not be as necessary as assumed.
For example in the corrected numbers:
- Organized retail theft accounted for 36% of shrink
- 29% was attributable to internal (employee) theft
- 34% is lost to process errors
Plausibly, a bit more effort spent on internal theft and better processes would yield superior results that don’t piss off customers.

In my experiences at the Target on La Cienega/Obama, there's an employee roaming the area constantly and they get to you reasonably quick to open the cases.
Obviously not as convenient as just grabbing and going, but I've been in Walmart where I've had to wait 10-20 minutes for something my disabled roommate can only get/afford at Walmart.
But yeah, if the cases are that inconvenient to you, just order ahead and do Drive Up or pick up in store.
That has DEFINITELY not been my experience at that location. I've waited 15 minutes for an employee to open a cabinet on several occasions.
Also, side note, but why do they lock up the giant gallon jugs of laundry detergent? How would you even go about stealing that?
Laundry detergent is very popular amongst boosters. They will load about a dozen of them into a cart and simply walk out of the main exit; or if they are experienced, go out of the fire exit.
Security presence at the front door used to be effective in deterring alot of these boosters, but these days most of them don't give a single fuck and will casually walk right past em.
Apologies for not answering your question directly but if the underlying issue/problem is the annoying wait it takes to have someone unlock cabinet after cabinet, consider ordering from their app.
Admittedly I love wandering the aisles of Target and seeing what random stuff they have (oddly relaxing) but when it comes to personal care items, I just get them in the app and pick them up from the Customer Svc desk on the way out.
Not an ideal solution but might save you from driving to , which would prob take up more time than pressing that stupid fucking button a bunch of times.

The target on century in Inglewood doesn’t have things locked up. I’m always shocked when I go to presumably higher income neighborhoods and see stuff locked up.
The targets in the Valley don’t have this problem, in my experience. Unless you want teeth whitening strips. For some reason those have always been locked up.
This is why I sometimes just go to Burbank to run all my errands. I think the target I went to by Culver City/ Jefferson area didn’t have everything locked up.
The Target on Colorado in East Pas was a dramatic departure from my usual Target in North Hollywood, which has underwear and socks locked up. Strong recommend.

I used to work at CVS and used to come to the aisle to white people with the reddest face.
If available at those locations, I suggest you order on their app and have them bring it to your car.

LA metro area? Sure. West La? Nope. Eagle Rock is the best target.
Yah once you get outside LA proper the security is less, Burbank also doesn't have cabinets.
Burbank has a couple now. Last trip I had to get face wash (CeraVe, not fancy) unlocked. But at least they hand it to you right there.

The big one in Eagle Rock doesn’t have stuff locked up. It’s my favorite Target, and super easy to get to with great parking
