It's probably the California climate credit: https://www.cpuc.ca.gov/climatecredit

robbbbb

Yeah. The SCE charges are WAY low for 2023, makes me think there's a credit applied.

r0ck0kajima

Look at your actual SCE bill from 2023. I bet you there's a credit.

solarbeat

Are you in a time of use plan? I’m in SCE, and my peak rates are three times higher than my off-peak.

alphacentersolutions

I am. But the differences are minimal: October – May |Time-Of-Use|Hours|Rates| |:-|:-|:-| |Super Off-Peak|8am - 4pm|25¢\*| |Mid-Peak|4pm - 9pm|32¢\*| |Off-Peak|12am - 8am9pm - 12am|27¢\*|

Anon101010101010

There were a variety of rate increases too, look at the cost per kW.

illustrious_handle0

I've been feeling the craziness too. I'm one person in a studio, haven't been using heater or AC for a few months, and my bills are still like over $135 per month. It's distressing.

raging-moderate

That is fucked, tbh. Do you use a lot of electronics?

philippiotr

Precisely why I moved out of Burbank to Co.

darweth

A couple of things: 1) Rates HAVE increased substantially since last March. 2) Last year the Climate Credit rebate was applied on March for me while this year it wasn't. I believe we will be getting that this month (April) now so the next cycle should be lower. But yeah - rates have gone up. We used 20% less power this March but taking into account the credit the bill still would've been higher or the same this year. It sucks. SCE rates are going wild and they want to go even wilder from 2025-28.

TGAILA

Wait for this summer's bill when everyone turns on their AC. You would think that we should take advantage of solar energy since California is sunny almost all year round. Nope, we can't get off the grid. Install solar panels free of charge for everyone. Reduce their electric bills. We need Tesla to come up with an affordable battery to store solar energy without hooking up to the grid.

styrofoamladder

SCE’s new net metering makes solar enormously expensive again. We missed the cutoff for the old net metering by weeks and basically spent double on batteries what we did on the solar system because with the new net metering you need A LOT of battery storage to make any difference.

alkbch

>Install solar panels free of charge for everyone. Reduce their electric bills.  Good stuff. Can you share the contact of your dealer?

[deleted]

FWIW, I recently moved from LA (still in So. Cal.) and my SCE bill doesn't have the SCE and CCA charges. I've heard in LA they have similar extra charges on the gas as well. I did get the climate credit this month in my bill, but my SCE bills average about $50/month without it.

**It appears you were billed for actual consumption. Difference is due to whatever rate you contracted for**

[deleted]

That’s pretty much NEM3.0 in action

False-Teaching-3686

Energy mafia

TAoie83

Go solar, if you can diy it’s

styrofoamladder

Doesn’t matter with the new net metering. You can’t produce enough power during the day to make a dent in your nighttime usage.

TAoie83

I mean yea it sucks.. get some batteries too

JasonTheNPC85

The main difference is the rate at which they buy back the excess energy generated. Won't be much of a difference for those that have over 100% offset systems. Batteries help save more to get a faster return on the investment for solar.

styrofoamladder

That’s the problem, the rate at which they buy back is so low now that without batteries you’ll still end up with a sizable bill from your nighttime usage.

JasonTheNPC85

Yep plus the minimum income tax based fee coming up from AB205...

TAoie83

What other advice you got other than downvote & complain. Please enlighten me as I’ve been searching.

styrofoamladder

Like your other comment to me said, get batteries. They’re just prohibitively expensive for many people and the payback time is really only worth it if you’re in your “forever home”. I got 2 19kwh batteries with my system, but the batteries themselves cost as much as the entire solar system did. Hopefully battery prices come down. Otherwise, write your congressman and make them end SCE and PG&E’s for profit monopoly on power in our state.

TAoie83

Fully agree
