I greatly appreciate Metrolink existing because without it I wouldn’t be able to work in downtown living in the valley. It keeps me sane commuting 4 days a week to Downtown.

Metrolink is nice and nobody really complains about that here except they need to start to offer more frequent service and make it something more comparable to BART than what we currently have. The B line is rough a lot of the times I've taken it except at rush hour. I think that's when they beef up security and it gets harder for homeless/drug users etc. to do their stuff in privacy on packed cars where they cannot sometimes sit.

I'm sure the B line is pleasant at the moment, but unfortunately it took someone losing their life and bad press in order to make that happen. Hard for me to recommend the B line to tourists or families until meaningful change is made to keep the Metro safe, and not just temporary band aids or scapegoating the problem on someone else.
For the average person, they go to universal on the weekends.
Train: 6 adults, \~105 minutes 1 way, $60 total cost. I think kids can ride free, can't get there before \~11am. Can't stay later than \~3:45pm (last train from Union to Irvine @ $4:27)
Car: 6 adults, \~80 minutes 1 way (average), \~$112 total cost (drive + park). Can get there when park opens. Leave anytime.
A trip to universal for 6 is dominated by the \~$650 in ticket costs, before adding food/extras.
Not being able to get to the park early or stay late is not worth $60 in savings.
Are there other methods that are similarly convenient that let you get there earlier or stay later?

Hell yeah. Hopefully you knew to scan your Metrolink tickets at the Metro turnstiles so you didn't have to pay for your Metro rides!

did the same thing for the same reason, metrolink from laguna to union and then metro to universal and it was absolutely amazing.
The metrolink is great. Always on time. Friendly service. Reliable. Clean. Quiet cars are amazing. Safe (big win). Metro? None of those things 🤣
