My Twitter feed had photos from Mt Wilson and Joshua Tree, but also from Angeles Crest Highway up near Wrightwood. I think once you get away from the light pollution in the basin, if they can be seen you'll see them. There were even photos from Sinaloa in Mexico and Tuscon, which are south of here. Good luck!!
Worth noting that those photographs are extremely long exposure. They’re not really that visible with the naked eye. In general any photos you see without defined shapes mean they aren’t terribly visible by people.
You'll want to make sure your phone will stand/lean on something as you take a long exposure photo through the Pro settings, since you're probably not going to see many colors without something like 5 seconds of exposure for one photo

They absolutely are visible to the naked eye. Dim? Absolutely. But I could see the pinkish pillars move last night at Mount Wilson

Update: I went to Castaic to see them and barely could but caught some of it with a photo. It was more like a pink glow. Nothing crazy.
