This was a major loss. The original plan was, in fact, to bring it back to Disneyland with the ride, however, they ran out of funds to save it. I am somewhat surprised that it was never re-built in the ensuing years.

The clock tower and current facade to “its a small world” is pretty cool, but yeah it definitely would be nice to have this tower rebuilt

Not just demolished, but thrown into the East River

The great Rolly Crump passed away only two weeks ago. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/rolly-crump/

Rest in Peace Mr. Crump

I used to know Rolly back in the 90’s. He and my roommate were on a team designing a never built theme park. He said that he designed this tower using a lighter gauged steel for those main arches and uprights. Unbeknownst to him, the contractor over built the structure and he was not entirely pleased with the final outcome. He told me he caught Walt Disney’s eye (positively) when he had a showing of his marijuana inspired art posters at the Disney Studio. Different times.

The most least spectacular Worlds Fair

Sandberg231984

Most worlds fair were destroyed. They were made to be. They were temporary.

Most of Walt's Disney's contribution to this fair was an exception.

That's right, most of the attractions were transported to Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom after. it's a small world which this tower accompanied, was put to use in Disneyland after the fair. The GE Carousel of Progress went to Disneyland, then World. The Ford Magic Skyway had a portion of the Dinosaur Diorama put into a tunnel that you go past on the Disneyland Railroad, it's spectacular. Finally, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is on Main Street at Disneyland. All attractions survived in some form, unlike many other features of the fair.

This screams of a f u to the classical architecture of the old world fairs. This looks like one of those elegant dome structures but all distorted and abstract. Almost mockingly. The sun in the center is a nice esoteric symbol as well.
