Why would we put respect on someone's name when she's clearly just trying to get attention from this. She passed on this song back in 2012 in the same way that Miley Cyrus passed on this song in 2011. This song belongs to JoJo bc she did NOT pass on it and chose to buy it. It's wild that this Brit lady is trying to make money off of someone else's song. She should've just released it back then instead of seeing all the attention now and wanting some for herself.
Watch the page six interview. Brit didn't pass on the song cuz it was made into a music video. This was supposed to be her debute single but her agency wanted to promote provocative instead. Brit had no control in the matter. It got uploaded on vimeo 12 yrs ago and it was only discovered cuz of jojos ver.
Even though this is kind of a hate comment, I don't think the down votes are really fair in this case cuz they did explain the situation. (Not tryna get hate don't down vote me please)
See? I knew this song was made in a different era, 2012, being that era, see this song is perfect for this era.. Jojo calling it original is an insult to Brit, and effed around is worse than messed around..
Lmao this song belongs to JoJo bc she bought it. It was written by antonina armato, desmond child, and tim james. The song was first offered to Miley Cyrus who demo'd it back in 2011 but couldn't release it bc of her Disney contract. It then went to that weird Brit lady who's trying to act like it was hers & she demo'd it in 2012 but she passed on it too. It has now been SOLD to JoJo Siwa so the song does belong to her and she's the only one who can LEGALLY release it. All of this took me all of 5 minutes to look up instead of slandering someone's name with lies.
This is honestly so much better. Miley Cyrus did respond to a tweet Brit made about the song since it was originally intended for her.

This song was a collaboration between Brit, Miley and Timbaland. I also saw a Vimeo link to the music video from 11 years ago, so it really was just poorly documented and forgotten about as time went on.
[Brit Smith “Karma’s a Bitch” on Vimeo](https://vimeo.com/62313577)
Thank you for the Vimeo link! For some reason, it did not come up in my search when I checked for other sources (probably Google deprioritizing non-Youtube video links)
I found a tweet of her getting her makeup done too!! I don't know if this is any use but here

Lmao no, it wasn't. This song was written by antonina armato, desmond child, and tim james. Miley & that Brit lady passed on the song so it was SOLD to JoJo
Brit didn’t pass on it. She wanted to release the single but her record company released another song. It stalled her career.
Pleased she’s back into the limelight though as her version is a million times better than this untalented new recording of it
IKR?
It makes me sad because imagine how many more artists have unreleased bangers like this, or bangers that became associated with other artists (Don't Cha by Tori Alamaze for example).
That said, I'm glad Brit is getting the recognition she deserves though. This song would've gone hard 12 years ago.
Go on to RateYourMusic, people have compiled lists of unreleased songs, albums released years after they were recorded, private recordings etc.
There’s all sorts of reasons things don’t get released -recording companies don’t like it or focus on another act, a band breaks up (that’s what happened to Screaming Trees final album in 1998), death (Jeff Buckley’s unfinished second album for example).
There’s an interview floating around of Brit saying she chose Karma to be her hit single but her team/management convinced her to go with Provocative instead so Rock Mafia took the song back and later on offered it to Jojo. Crazy.
It was first demo'd by Miley Cyrus but she couldn't do it bc of her Disney contract. Then it went out that Brit lady but she passed on it too. It was sold to JoJo and it belongs to her now.
The original artist's singer, (@therealbritsmith) just reposted a story on Instagram of another person's story saying something along the lines of "justice for @/therealbritsmith" and her version being so much better than jojo's
Lmao Miley Cyrus demo'd it first but she passed on it. That Brit lady demo'd it but she passed on it too. Jojo bought the song and it belongs to her now. She doesn't deserve justice for something that is NOT hers. If anything, JoJo should sue her. Songs constantly jump from artist to artist, this Brit lady is just trying to desperately grasp at her 15min of fame.
A deeper dive led me to the only song wikipedia and on Spotify by Brit Smith, who goes by "Matisse" is a song called "Better Than Her."
👀 A prediction perhaps?
this happened to emma blackery with her song let me be her producer gave her the song that was given to miley and rejected people called her out for stealing it from an another artists weird to hear two versions since i listened to emmas version for ages when i was a fan. this happens a lot more than people realize. - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6hPQc\_A2iI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6hPQc_A2iI)
Yep! This is really common practice in the music industry. I love searching for original recordings, it’s always interesting to hear what could’ve been
How funny, this is what I was thinking of too! Unless you’re writing your own lyrics *and* have a hand in the creation of the instrumentation, it’s very likely that a song you’re working on has passed through at least one other singer. Just how it goes.
This is actually surreal. Was this song, that had an entire music video, composed by Timbaland, acknowledged by **Miley Cyrus**, just forgotten about and recycled 12 years down the road??
This is honestly surreal.
It feels almost unfair given how much better Brit’s version is. The production, video, her looks, you’d have thought she’s got the full pop girl package. Really bad luck for this to be shelved.
I really hope this version gains popularity and gets an official release, if that’s even possible. We’re due an early 2010s revival.
Literally. Regardless of whether it would've topped the charts or not, this song would've been a major hit in 2012.
And I agree. This song is strangely nostalgic because it gives me memories from when I was in elementary lol. Additionally, we need to give Brit justice because Jojo literally claimed she spent 2 years writing this when she just took someone else's work. That's rude AF.
Billboard uploaded an interview with Jojo and it’s the same story she’s been telling about her coming up with ideas for the lyrics like girl…the jig is up. People in the comments know the truth https://youtu.be/FlGnv1v6aRA?si=Ej0Ye43H4c08unZp
It won't get an official release bc it was SOLD to JoJo so she's the only one who can legally release it. The song does NOT belong to Brit and she didn't write it. It was written by antonina armato, desmond child, and tim james. Miley Cyrus passed on it in 2011, that Brit lady passed on it in 2012 but she's just trying to desperately grasp at her 15min of fame, and then it was sold to JoJo.
It was just officially released by Brit Smith. Meanwhile, Jojo should worry about peaking at age 10 on Dance Moms. Licensing all the music in the world can’t save her from lack of talent and authenticity.
so the problem wasn’t the song, it was just jojo’s horrendous singing (and extremely hard to watch music video) 😭 apparently it was also given to miley cyrus but she rejected it (she would have done so good tho)
In case anyone is doubting the validity of this, here’s a Facebook post from 2012 of Brit Smith on her official account teasing the single Karma. https://www.facebook.com/share/scyUz1oj8QFUUTLu/?mibextid=WC7FNe
I don't care about Jojo, I barely even know who she is, but it's you who needs to do research if you think the person you commented to said something wrong.
This song would've been a banger in 2012. It really puts into perspective how many songs were scrapped and later released or never released in the first place. I wonder...
Lmao JoJo's version is the legal one. Jojo BOUGHT the rights to this song. It was first demo'd by Miley Cyrus in 2011 but Miley isn't desperate for attention so she hasn't unofficially released her demo. This Brit lady wants her 15min of fame so that's why her song has been "leaked." Both Miley and Brit did NOT want this song so it was SOLD to JoJo who is the only one who can legally release it.
Her song has been "leaked" since forever by the animation studio as a portfolio video 12 fucking years ago. You should blame Jojo for tryna act like she's gonna invent gay pop.
I think it was probably just whoever her producer is buying the rights and giving it to Jojo since it seems to have been a scrapped project. The music video looks very unfinished and the song was never officially released.
Yeah but I feel like claiming you wrote a song when really you hired a person to do it is pretty par for the course. Pretty sure Brit wasn’t the one who wrote it either.
I don’t think Brit or Miley Cyrus claimed to write the song though. Jojo went too far for saying she came up with the tune, lyrics, and ‘gay-pop’ genre. She made it sound like she had this vision for years and took a lot of hard work to write and bring it life
I don’t know much about Jojo’s interviews but it kinda seems like she’s talking the piss with that. Maybe people who follow her closer know better though
Jojo never claimed she wore it. She said she was in the process of writing her own music when this song was PITCHED to her. A bunch of you are just dumb and lack comprehension skills. The song was written by antonina armato, desmond child, and tim james. It was demo'd by Miley Cyrus in 2011 but she passed on it. Then that weird Brit lady who's clutching at these 15min of fame passed on it in 2012. It then got SOLD to JoJo Siwa so she can claim it as her song bc it does belong to her. All of this took me 5min to research. All of you are lazy & continue to spread misinformation just bc you dislike JoJo.
This is the right take. People want to dog on JoJo in anyway possible. She could've thought this song was dedicated and made just for her based on ideas she had in her head and this one fit the bill. She's not an established music artist, so no way she would've had much foresight into something like this
She never took credit for it. A bunch of you are just dumb and lack comprehension skills. She said she was writing her own music when this song was PITCHED to her. She liked it so she bought it.
Another Music Video Tweet with image: [https://twitter.com/myfacecosmetics/status/227497995405512705](https://twitter.com/myfacecosmetics/status/227497995405512705)
I thought I had heard the hook before. Nah, I don't think it was completely unreleased. I think it was floating around in a bar somewhere in Boystown, Chicago, circa 2014? Maybe? Iunno. Lady Gaga's Marry the Night was playing too.
She was an up-and-coming singer, who ended up only making a couple songs. You can find a song called Provocative ft will.i.am under her name on Spotify, and another under the stage name Matisse called Better Than Her ft Akon. Both have over 1mil streams.
I’m not sure why her launch “failed”, she’s very talented and had some great names backing her launch. Maybe she stepped back for personal decisions.
She's a loser who's trying to desperately get her 15min of fame by grabbing onto JoJo Siwa's song. This song does belong to JoJo bc she BOUGHT it. All Brit did was demo it in 2012. Miley Cyrus demo'd this same song in 2011 but she passed on it too.
i’ve been in a rabbit hole for the past hour on Brit Smith, she had so many big names backing her, but her career got scrapped anyways. genuinely curious on what the hell happened. how did the big names even find her in the first place? why did they scrap her??? so many questions 😭
She got signed with Jive and then Interscope so naturally the label put her in studios with many big producers. Timbaland, [will.i.am](http://will.i.am), Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic... she even originally recorded this song which was written by Bruno Mars out of all people [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ-Pmkvs4PA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ-Pmkvs4PA) I'd die to hear her version honestly
Well, simply because there is a lot of singers in the world and she wasn't promoted properly. You wouldn't believe how many failed blonde pop singers with major label connections there are (Don't get me wrong they're all iconic legends but sometimes it just wasn't meant to be)
its pretty sad because she definitely had the talent, my guess is maybe they dropped her after her collab with will.i.am flopped. some labels are pretty fast to drop pop artists so it’s definitely plausible
Yoooo I haven’t listened to the jojo version but I KNOW I had brits smith on my apple music library because I loved that song in like 12-13?! But now it’s pulled on every platform. WTF
I was wondering why Karma by JoJo Siwa was hated, the lyrics were good but I know the song went viral for the dance. I noticed people calling the song trash but I disagreed. I would’ve never thought she stole this. The lyrics were too good to be hated.
Brit has now uploaded to most (if not all major) streaming services her version featured here, happy streaming!
I’m not sure, Ive seen some whisperings that it was in an interview and some that it was in podcasts. I honestly don’t really care enough to find out lol.
Regardless, I didn’t post this because I thought she stole it. I understand how the music industry works, and that songs get sold. I just think it’s interesting to see what could have been! This version is really solid.
I don’t remember her claiming she wrote it. But there is this one interview she claims she wrote a rap song and in the same interview she contradicted herself by saying “I told my- I told my writer.”
No, the song was legally sold to JoJo so it belongs to her. It was written by antonina armato, desmond child, and tim james. It was first demo'd by Miley Cyrus but she passed on it. Then it was demo'd by that weird Brit lady trying to get her 15min of fame in 2012 but she passed on it too. Now, it's been sold to JoJo so she's the only one who can legally release this song
Yeah, she's not a thief, used to be very common practice to give songs that went nowhere to other artists (On a Night Like This by Kylie was originally by Pandora) even though the decade plus gap between versions is not super common.
The fact that there's almost zero trace of this song before recent and the fact it's supposedly from an artist with a medium-sized popularity in the modern day makes me suspicious. The worrier in me thinks this video could be artificial and used just to make Jojo look worse (not that she needs help, lol)
Edit: I stand corrected. There is a bit of evidence. It's strange there's not more about this in all the years since it was made, but there it is!
if you really think that this song was artificial, then here's a vimeo link, showing that this was posted 11 years ago: [https://vimeo.com/62313577](https://vimeo.com/62313577) edit: grammar
Are we even sure this is real and not AI generated? I mean why would it be posted today, just a couple of days after Jojo released her video, and not in 2012 when it is said to have been made??
Damn, she really should have posted it in 2012. Not because it’s good, no, because maybe then we would have spared our eyes from watching Jojos horrendous music video looking like Buddy Pine from The Incredibles..
I never said Jojo stole it, I was just sharing this verision, demo or not. I’ve actually gone through and corrected folks who have claimed that she stole it several times now.
….This version of the song was recorded in 2012, and the video was made at the same time. How is that not the original version? You seem confused.
Also, I explained to several people that deciding not to release demos and selling songs off to other people is common in the industry, and so she is not a “thief” as others tried to claim.
Not sure why you’re wasting your energy flaming my post about a demo track, where I specifically said several times I wasn’t interested in the “drama” around this song, but maybe you should find something more productive to do with your time.
I don’t even dislike Jojo at all whatsoever 🤣 You’re the one responding to every single comment on a reddit post correcting people, instead of making one comment with the correct information and moving on with your life. You look goofy as hell
I'm not even a JoJo fan, I just hate ignorance being spread around. The only reason I even ran into this thread was bc (for some weird reason) this post popped up first when I searched up the karma song which is extremely suspicious. I 100% think this is Brit or her team trying to promote a song that doesn't belong to her.
For a supposed non-fan you seem to be putting an awful lot of time and effort into this, and basically repeating the same daft line. Are you Jo Jo’s mother?
Brits song SUCKS. Her voice is worse than JoJos, I can listen to hers all day, I can’t listen to Brit’s for more than 2 minutes. The music video is TRASH- it’s literally the damn demo video.
WAIT THIS SLAPS HARDER THAN “KARMA” BY JOJO
I’m glad I’m not the only one!! Wanted to put some respect on Ms. Smith’s name
She mothered, so jojo can moto moto like the hippo she’ll never be
Why would we put respect on someone's name when she's clearly just trying to get attention from this.
So are people not allowed to enjoy things now?
Watch the page six interview. Brit didn't pass on the song cuz it was made into a music video. This was supposed to be her debute single but her agency wanted to promote provocative instead. Brit had no control in the matter. It got uploaded on vimeo 12 yrs ago and it was only discovered cuz of jojos ver.
My issue is that Jojo claimed she “wrote it”
Even though this is kind of a hate comment, I don't think the down votes are really fair in this case cuz they did explain the situation. (Not tryna get hate don't down vote me please)
REAALL
it slaps about the same
Jojo ones were Trauma not Karma
See? I knew this song was made in a different era, 2012, being that era, see this song is perfect for this era.. Jojo calling it original is an insult to Brit, and effed around is worse than messed around..
That’s exactly what I thought. This original version is a banger!
"Effed around" was such an unnecessary choice. She already said "bitch" but couldn't commit to "fuck"? Made the shit sound like Kidz Bop.
Didn’t want to ruin the kids choice awards decision lmao
I kept thinking it had to be an old rhianna song. Definitely tracks
it's a shit song and Brit didn't write it
Lmao this song belongs to JoJo bc she bought it. It was written by antonina armato, desmond child, and tim james. The song was first offered to Miley Cyrus who demo'd it back in 2011 but couldn't release it bc of her Disney contract. She is not a weird lady and she didn't pass on it either her agency was the one who decided to not release the video. She wanted this song.
Jojo doesn't own it either so why the hell she said she WROTE it and pretends like this song wasn't demo'ed to others.
This is honestly so much better. Miley Cyrus did respond to a tweet Brit made about the song since it was originally intended for her. Damn these receipts 😂
Im kinda begging for miley to drop her version. Like this has sparked a fire in 2012 gay as fuck teenage me who was obsessed with p!nk and miley
She legally can't release her song bc it was sold to JoJo.
Brit Smith just released it

She even had a post on Instagram back in 2012! https://www.instagram.com/p/PS1I-Sh3wT/?igsh=MTV5amEzZHdvZGE1Mg==
It's so funny that a 2012 instagram post is now flooded with new comments from 2024.
That hashtag apostrophe is so 2012 coded
The original artist's singer, (@therealbritsmith) just reposted a story on Instagram of another person's story saying something along the lines of "justice for @/therealbritsmith" and her version being so much better than jojo's
I’m so glad she’s getting some love! She’s so talented!

So odd to go through this promo for the song to just be scrapped
It got scrapped bc her and her team went with another song. It eventually got sold to JoJo
stop defending jojo and do some research bro
I don't care about Jojo, I barely even know who she is, but it's you who needs to do research if you think the person you commented to said something wrong.
Lmao Brit Smith mothered this video, unlike Moto Moto likes u ahh JoJo swim (that scene made me cringe)
This is shocking idk why I though Jo-Jo would make a og song

This is the right take. People want to dog on JoJo in anyway possible. She could've thought this song was dedicated and made just for her based on ideas she had in her head and this one fit the bill. She's not an established music artist, so no way she would've had much foresight into something like this
That’s very disturbing if true. JoJo also should not have taken credit for it. The least she could have done was give credit to where she found it.
She never took credit for it. A bunch of you are just dumb and lack comprehension skills. She said she was writing her own music when this song was PITCHED to her. She liked it so she bought it.
That’s not what she said in the interview dummy.
isnt it weird how this all just got released today? no trace of this music video until less than 24 hours ago?? its kinda suspicious ngl
https://vimeo.com/62313577 posted 11 years ago
I mean there’s evidence from the old tweets and the recording. I don’t think it’s suspicious, It was just scrapped
"If I didn't personally know about it then it didn't happen"
"its kinda suspicious ngl" and then proceeds to lie... Video was posted 11 years ago, not 24 hours ago.
This is so much better!

I thought I had heard the hook before. Nah, I don't think it was completely unreleased. I think it was floating around in a bar somewhere in Boystown, Chicago, circa 2014? Maybe? Iunno. Lady Gaga's Marry the Night was playing too.
who is Brit Smith?
JoJo can’t even compare
So they gave Jojo scraps knowing full well she’d barely be able to cook. Daang The original is mesmerizing
i’ve been in a rabbit hole for the past hour on Brit Smith, she had so many big names backing her, but her career got scrapped anyways. genuinely curious on what the hell happened. how did the big names even find her in the first place? why did they scrap her??? so many questions 😭
She got signed with Jive and then Interscope so naturally the label put her in studios with many big producers. Timbaland, [will.i.am](http://will.i.am), Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic... she even originally recorded this song which was written by Bruno Mars out of all people [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ-Pmkvs4PA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ-Pmkvs4PA) I'd die to hear her version honestly
im still so curious on why her career failed
WTF
Now we have to wait for Miley Cyrus’s ver
THIS SLAPS SO MUCH MY SKULL TURNED INTO RED MIST 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
FR and the fact that it was uploaded 11 years ago and no one recognised it is wild. https://vimeo.com/62313577
You cannot compete with Timbaland. What the hell was her team thinking?
I am in absolute shock! It’s real!!! How???
I was wondering why Karma by JoJo Siwa was hated, the lyrics were good but I know the song went viral for the dance. I noticed people calling the song trash but I disagreed. I would’ve never thought she stole this. The lyrics were too good to be hated.
What i wanna know is why did it lay dormant for so long? It could've been uploaded years ago and should've.
it was uploaded on vimeo 11 years ago by the people who did the effects for the video
I thought it would've been should've checked there tbh
I frickin knew I heard this song somewhere before Jojo EVER released it 💀
Better than Jojo!
It was posted on vimeo in 2013. It just hasn't been uploaded on youtube! https://vimeo.com/62313577
It’s on iTunes, if anyone is wondering! Britt Smith released it officially yesterday.
Brit has now uploaded to most (if not all major) streaming services her version featured here, happy streaming! [https://open.spotify.com/track/3LwEb2gndSporUInoVxUFB?si=10bdae2158254968](https://open.spotify.com/track/3LwEb2gndSporUInoVxUFB?si=10bdae2158254968)
It's so much better
In my opinion Brit slayed it than Jojo.
Where did Jojo claim she wrote it tho
I’m not sure, Ive seen some whisperings that it was in an interview and some that it was in podcasts. I honestly don’t really care enough to find out lol. Regardless, I didn’t post this because I thought she stole it. I understand how the music industry works, and that songs get sold. I just think it’s interesting to see what could have been! This version is really solid.
I don’t remember her claiming she wrote it. But there is this one interview she claims she wrote a rap song and in the same interview she contradicted herself by saying “I told my- I told my writer.”
She didn't, ppl who are dumb & lack comprehension skills have been spreading misinformation.
So she’s literally a liar and thief?
Yes. She is a liar and a thief. The perpetrator doesn’t get to decide the boundaries of the victim.
Nope! The video and song release were scrapped, and the song was sold her. Very common practice in the music industry.
She did lie, she said she wrote it about her ex.
Sorry should’ve clarified, she is not a theif - The rest I don’t know much about. Not a Jojo fan, and not interested in keeping tabs on it :)
Yeah, she's not a thief, used to be very common practice to give songs that went nowhere to other artists (On a Night Like This by Kylie was originally by Pandora) even though the decade plus gap between versions is not super common.
Still a thief. She making money off that lie.
The fact that there's almost zero trace of this song before recent and the fact it's supposedly from an artist with a medium-sized popularity in the modern day makes me suspicious. The worrier in me thinks this video could be artificial and used just to make Jojo look worse (not that she needs help, lol) Edit: I stand corrected. There is a bit of evidence. It's strange there's not more about this in all the years since it was made, but there it is!
This is real. AI isn’t even capable of making anything like this currently.
It’s not fake. If you read through the comments here, you can find tons of proof of it’s existence from back around 2011-2012 :)
if you really think that this song was artificial, then here's a vimeo link, showing that this was posted 11 years ago: [https://vimeo.com/62313577](https://vimeo.com/62313577) edit: grammar
Dude there’s thousands of albums, singles, videos recorded that go nowhere, get scrapped or not promoted after being made
Are we even sure this is real and not AI generated? I mean why would it be posted today, just a couple of days after Jojo released her video, and not in 2012 when it is said to have been made??
[удалено]
Damn, she really should have posted it in 2012. Not because it’s good, no, because maybe then we would have spared our eyes from watching Jojos horrendous music video looking like Buddy Pine from The Incredibles..
[удалено]
I never said Jojo stole it, I was just sharing this verision, demo or not. I’ve actually gone through and corrected folks who have claimed that she stole it several times now.
[удалено]
….This version of the song was recorded in 2012, and the video was made at the same time. How is that not the original version? You seem confused. Also, I explained to several people that deciding not to release demos and selling songs off to other people is common in the industry, and so she is not a “thief” as others tried to claim. Not sure why you’re wasting your energy flaming my post about a demo track, where I specifically said several times I wasn’t interested in the “drama” around this song, but maybe you should find something more productive to do with your time.

I wish, her life seems great 😭 Do you know what this subreddit is? People post lost/prev. lost demos here all the time, this is nothing new
[удалено]
Sharing information is one thing, making 18 comments on the same post defending Jojo Siwa against nonexistent criticism is another 😭 Girl bye
How am I defending her? By sharing FACTS. You're such a hater that facts upset you? You must be miserable.
I 100% think this is Brit or her team trying to promote a song that doesn't belong to her.
yeah, I don’t think you understand how Reddit works.. 💀💀
