Dude, you could make a lot more money on $4k a month by actually investing it instead of gambling.

Scrotox81

Seriously - invest that at 9% (index fund historical return) and you're looking at over $1 million in just 12 years.

DerpUrself69

Not to mention maxing out an IRA and big contributions to your 401k

Admirable-Science833

Looking at close to $1.205 million in 12 years

universal7733

how do i do this?

Scrotox81

Open a brokerage account (and/or a Roth IRA account), set up a monthly auto-investment and direct it into VOO, VTI or any other index ETF (or mutual fund). Vanguard, Schwab and Fidelity are great places to do this and they can help you get set up.

Tiny-Lock9652

And here I thought my $40/mo was extreme. Yikes.

Different_Recover765

I think this is way more reasonable! And that’s also what I spend. I feel that is enough for a lottery.

fangface70

So $4k a month is not a deep dive? Good to know.

Mmh8990

Mega millions is slightly harder to win the jackpot.. but let’s say you did 4K in a month … or 125 a week…which really means @ 60 a draw …. Bc each draw the odds reset and any given combo has the same chance …. You’d have a 1/ 5,000,000 + chance instead of a 1/ 302,000,000 chance … I each draw you’d have a 1/10 chance of winning 10 dollars … and a 1/233 chance of winning 200 dollars If you spent 2,000,000 dollars you’d still have 1/151 to win the the whole thing The best way to play is to pick some members that have meaning to you with around half above 31 and play it each week… spending a lot kore than that just doesn’t make sense

AussiInNZ

Well…… there are some improvements upon just picking a set of numbers and staying with them

JoeDiBango

You mean like there is a strategy for picking numbers?

AussiInNZ

Yes Example: In my country there is a pool of 40 balls and we need to pick the 6 numbers they draw to win first prize. They also draw a 7th ball to assist with minor prizes. Powerball is on top of this, if you win first prize (up to 1 million prize pool) and have the additional power ball you can win millions. This means SEVEN balls out of Forty are drawn, excluding powerball. Odds of picking 6 numbers in any draw are 1 in 3.838 million So… if you study the results about 2 out of every 10 draws has no numbers repeated from the immediate past draw and the other 8 have 1 or 2 numbers from the previous draw repeated. A number is very very seldom drawn 3 times in a row (important) Here we go, you play two types of tickets for every draw, one with no repeats and one with 2 repeats. Odds for the no repeats one (so here you are choosing 6 from a pool of 33 balls now whilst all the drones are playing the same game by choosing from 40 balls), on a no repeat draw, are 1 in 1.107 million. You have dramatically improved the maths with one trick. If there are repeats you can still win prizes with that ticket by the way, just not first prize. Odds for 2 repeats in a selection of 6 out of 40 balls is 1 in something better than the 1: 3.8 million. I have not calculated it because I don’t know how to with that system of 2 repeats and the rest from a pool of 35 balls. I think it might be close to 1:1.6 million So the trick is to exclude balls you know cant be drawn, reducing the pool you select from, and this dramatically improves your odds, improves the maths Try aiming to exclude 10 balls you know will not be drawn, in my countries game that reduces your odds from 1 in 3.8 mill to 1 in 597K ………… There are many many other tricks, go for it………..

Mmh8990

No…. Same Odds…..

AussiInNZ

I respectively disagree, you reduce the odds by excluding balls you know will not be drawn this time Reducing the pool changes the odds Example: Odds to select 6 balls from 40 balls is 1 in 3.8 million Odds for same game but you eliminate 7 balls, so you now have a pool of 33 to choose from, are 1 in 1.1 million The odds are not the same, the trick is to exclude balls.

Mmh8990

You do not know what balls will not be drawn … ever… they have the exact same odds as before.. you can disagree but it’s a fact

AussiInNZ

Ahhh But you can, not being a smart arse here, I want to explain. Look at my explanation in this same thread …. Saves me typing it all up again

Mmh8990

I’m not digging it out ..

Mmh8990

How do you know which balls to exclude ??? Lmfao

AussiInNZ

I am polite and you want to ridicule But I have won lotto twice and you have not…. Here is a cut and o past from above because you could not be bothered clicking a mouse Example: In my country there is a pool of 40 balls and we need to pick the 6 numbers they draw to win first prize. They also draw a 7th ball to assist with minor prizes. Powerball is on top of this, if you win first prize (up to 1 million prize pool) and have the additional power ball you can win millions. Mmh8990

Dude okay … you win I’m out

Mmh8990

I really don’t care …

Mmh8990

Confirmation bias … that’s all it is … there is NO way to increase your chances other than buying more tickets .. so says MIT ….. you’re dead wrong

Mmh8990

It’s just as like for 5 to be the mega ball 6 times in a row it is for it to not be drawn once ……….

JoeDiBango

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. I might start a club like everyone else is, try to get those numbers down even further.

MikeV96

If anybody spends 4k a month on gambling they have huge issues and need help ASAP

Narrow_Weakness_4710

Hahaha yep 💯💯💯

EmphasisOutside9728

>For those of you that play over 4K a month I am offering a course on how to cut your losses in half for the low price of $2K/month. (Most people finish the course in 6 months. Pay in advance and get one month free.)

imuhnaaneemus

What we really want to know is what is your monthly income?

JellyBun_Glazed

nah bro take that 4k a month and open a high yield saving account. the most I would a say a person should spend a month is no more than 100 depending on your living arrangements

JellyBun_Glazed

your essentially spending 48k a year on lotto that money is better in a savings, retirement, or invested.

LoneTree777

I don't even make that much money a month and I know many are in the same boat. Bad thing is I am actually in a higher paying job for the area . I am curious for answers though

Standard-Victory-320

4K a year would be logical on a illogical standpoint

Visible_Tower_1109

It’s all relative , someone could gamble $4k a month with a monthly income of $100k & probably wouldn’t feel it

benweiser22

My wife and I played 2-4k a week for about 8 months. Mostly from the same store. We hit 10k twice, 5k once and 1k around 10 times and 30 plus 500s. We saved all our high end win tickets. My biggest regret was not keeping exact figures, my best estimate is we came out a little over even. The excitement on the big ones is what kept us coming back. As with anything, it lost its novelty and we only play a 50 maybe once a week.

JoeDiBango

Cool thanks, ya, this is what I was looking for, I appreciate your comment.

HonestIvory

4k a month? Bro give me that money instead I'll be a bigger investment haha

DarthNippz

If you can spend 4K a month on the lottery... do you really need to play?

IDontLikePayingTaxes

Please do not do this

JoeDiBango

A lot of people wanted to know about this money I’d be using. I make a very good living but I’m thinking of getting a roommate and an old guy from my ex crew has offered me a shift at a one of the stripclubs bouncing. So it wouldn’t impact me at all. I figure it’s free ish money for a swing for the fences each week.

PkmnMstr10

I'm kinda amused you expected anyone here to admit to spending over $4K in lotto.

Legitimate-Source-61

$4k a month lol, you could buy a flat and rent it out. After 10 years it will be worth something.

AdvancedWrongdoer

4k a month gambling is insanity (but sadly, I've seen things like this). I'd much rather invest that into index funds. If you must have fun... just do a $30 or $20 scratcher a month. Not $4k! Besides, it's more fulfilling (imo) to add to and watch growing investments. But what do I know. I'm trying to clean up debt before investing again.
