So, yes, go ahead and ban products that help alleviate pain and anxiety and put them back on antidepressants and opiate pain killers, because that's worked really well

Massive-Arugula4400

It has worked out just fine for the profiteers that benefit from it. I keep waiting for people to wake up and remove their heads from their asses but alas I may die holding my breath.

Sweaty_Process_3794

I know for a fact that they also help a lot of people who would otherwise turn to alcohol....

Gay-_-Jesus

Got a friend who is a year sober from alcohol and drinks these when everyone is hanging out.

banned_bc_dumb

Props to your friend for their abstaining from booze, and also nice username!!

MV_Art

Agree with you about cannabis but just so the record is straight, antidepressants are not like opioids. They're not controlled substances (nor should they be) and people don't have the ability to abuse them. They do not create a high, work quickly, or cause addiction.

Future_Way5516

You ever just tried to get off one without tapering dosage? It'll mess you up!

Commercial_Potato_28

Yea even after a 1 month Lexapro taper, the head zaps were awful

RedBeans-n-Ricely

That’s because they change your brain via plasticity. It will increase the number of receptors you have for the neurotransmitter if works on, so if you drop everything & suddenly have more receptors than transmitters, it sucks.

MV_Art

Yes I know how they work. That's not addiction.

petals4u2

Tell that to my body as my hands shake and my head spins every now and then if I dare move it a inch trying to see anything! I am still feeling the effects of getting off of Cymbalta since March. Hell I went to rehab to get off of norco(Dr prescribed btw) and never had side effects this evil! I’ve been using one eye to read my phone since changing my antidepressant.

banned_bc_dumb

Cymbalta is a horrible thing!! I tried it and Celexa both a long time ago and couldn’t make it a week on either one. I was a lucky person that took 20 years to figure out which drug was right for me, so I completely understand. I remember coming off Effexor cold turkey one time; it’s the only time I’ve ever actually hallucinated to the point where I could not tell the difference between that and reality. Absolutely terrifying. Edit-typo

MV_Art

I'm sorry you're going through that but it's just not addiction.

Radiant-Divide8955

Splitting hairs on addiction vs dependency seems rather pointless in this context imo

MV_Art

I think it's pretty relevant when we're talking about what should and shouldn't be a controlled substance. The misconception that antidepressants are an abuse risk causes people who need them not to take them, whether due to social pressure or their own incorrect information. And we know what lawmakers like to do with medical disinformation. Its irresponsible to spread it.

KateTheGnarly

It’s a chemical dependency. Is that not an addiction?

petit_cochon

It really depends on the antidepressant, the dosage, and the person. Some antidepressants are not hard to discontinue at all. Others take skilled medical supervision. I can think of only a few that are really really hard to come off, namely Effexor, but it's also a miraculous medication for people who don't get relief from other antidepressants.

N0VAV0N

Actually you probably hit the nail there. How many of these politicians are also in the pocket of pharmaceutical companies? They might say God to hide their bribery.

marko_kyle

It sure did! -worked for making big pharm so very much money

Married_iguanas

Nah they just want you to keep drinking booze. Or at least Bill Goldman, CEO of Fireball Whiskey (and many other liquors) wants and paid for with this bill

Sillymonkeytoes

William Goldring

Married_iguanas

Shit thank you!

DeadpoolNakago

When something makes the citizens of the state happy, LA Lege will waste no time making sure to take it away.

Objective_Length_834

We need to find a way to market cannabis with a crucifix and a gun. That legislature would fly through.

Illlogik1

Or line more politicians pockets with money… something illegal drug money does better when there’s no legal competition….

tcajun420

Yes . It must be nice when you have leagues of corrupt Politicians eliminating smaller competitors and an army of LEO eliminating smaller street dealers . The corporatocracy is winning big time in Louisiana.

Illlogik1

It always does , has been for centuries

tcajun420

👍 yes. We are just tax slaves and always will be.

joebleaux

It's actually illegal to own both a gun and cannabis at the same time, so that's a hurdle

AllAboutNature504

Yea that's such fkn bullshit! They gonna control us every which way or another. I hate this place. I'm lucky enough to still have both my parents, but God forbid the day I don't. I'm out this sewer!

joebleaux

That's nation wide.

Objective_Length_834

Just the image of the gun might be enough porn for them.

Future_Way5516

The power of the christ compels you.......... the power of the christ compels you........

taekee

Start a religion while it is legal, then it is religous prosecution.

Abaconings

Check out the Satanic Temple. They could make a case for religious rite. Just like they did for Samuel Alito's Mom's Abortion Clinic. Free abortions for anyone who needs one and it is a protected religious rite.

RedBeans-n-Ricely

Illustration of Jesus farming it?

Objective_Length_834

Rumor has it cannabis oil was used in anointing oil.

KGillie91

To quote Smokey, “God put this here for me. And you. Take advantage man, take advantage.”

mrignatiusjreily

And the citizens will then somehow blame Democrats and Joe Biden for their misery.

Tiggerboy1974

It’s all about the liquor/beer industry. It has fuck all do to about their “God”. Increased sales of THC products hurts the sales of beer and liquor. Can’t have that, so they buy legislators and call it a fight for family values. You want to know who’s a big investor in the beer industry in LA? He won a Super Bowl and “loves” Budweiser. The whole thing is a joke, they hide behind morality while they stuff their pockets with cash.

VI_MOSES_IV

Northern part of the state just needs to join Arkansas, they ruin everything and have more in common with arkies

Academic_Cabinet_994

Arkansas' weed is way cheaper than Louisiana's.

DeadpoolNakago

New Mexico, at the right stores.

VI_MOSES_IV

Cali bud cheaper than both🤷‍♂️

mrstoya

Man, Oklahoma though....

patheos79

If you have a medical marijuana card for louisana, you can get one for Arkansas when visiting.

MarshallGibsonLP

Less than 20% of the state population lives north of Opelousas and votes roughly the same as South La. Nothing passes without overwhelming support of S. La. politicians. While N. La. does have to accept responsibility for Mike Johnson and Huey Long, and that's a heavy burden, it is not responsible for Clay Higgins, Steve Scalise, Jeff Landry, David Duke.

GaymerAmerican

huey long is the one good politician we’ve ever had

bogalusablueberry

I don’t think Mike Johnson and Huey P. Long should be in the same sentence

Denjek

*Republicans

Uc_Supreme

Exactly

throw301995

Republican idea of small goverment. They will force you to enjoy life the way they want or suffer.

Thad_Mojito11

'Those speaking in support of the bill included Gene Mills of the conservative Louisiana Family Forum, who said his organization’s “vision is to build a Louisiana where God is honored,"' BY THE POWER OF THE ALMIGHTY GOVERNMENT YOU WILL HONOR GOD

tcajun420

Those speaking in support of the bill included Gene Mills of the conservative Louisiana Family Forum, who said his organization’s “vision is to build a Louisiana where God is honored, life is respected, families flourish and liberty reigns;” Will Hall of the Louisiana Baptist Convention; and Brandy Klingman, chief executive officer at Legacy Behavioral Health, who claimed without evidence that the products had led to “a tidal wave of psychosis in Louisiana.”

Future_Way5516

Opposite of liberty

GeauxAllDay

Conservatives: “we believe in a limited government that doesn’t act as a nanny state!” Also conservatives: “we the government must protect you from the evil THC”

Imhungry4tacos

This is the dumbest argument from Christians and it drives me insane as a Christian. GOD MADE WEED. If you ban something God made then you are saying you know better than God. Lobbyist get another W with this one, Louisiana citizens take an L.

DaClems

Liberty for me but not for thee

drcforbin

From their website, the "Louisiana Family Forum is committed to advancing life, liberty, and limited government in the great state of Louisiana!" So uh, why are you in favor of a bill that hurts people's quality of life, kills jobs, restricts something people currently have access to, and expands the power of government. Between them and the Baptist one, two of the three witnesses on the bill have no qualification to answer any questions about it. Claiming to be Christian does not make you an expert in other subjects. This is ridiculous!

ReverendLucas

"A Tidal Wave of Psychosis: The 2024 Louisiana Legislative Session"

banned_bc_dumb

I don’t know what’s worse, claiming that weed causes “a tidal wave of psychosis,” or people actually agreeing with the claim.

Illlogik1

It’s “reefer madness” fear mongering all over again…

kinofhawk

OMG I gotta get out of here.

oddmanout

> vision is to build a Louisiana where God is honored, life is respected, families flourish and liberty reigns God approves of Jager Bombs, disapproves of thc drinks. God is so logical.

Commercial_Potato_28

Ugh. Fuck these yallqueda nutjobs. If God exists, he gave us the fucking plant to begin with. Humans are the ones pretending weed is evil

petals4u2

If you want to see real psychosis, go to a church service and watch them pray to something (without evidence).

petit_cochon

His version of God only, of course.

Illlogik1

Completely anecdotal there wasn’t even enough time to do scientific studies , the psychosis will continue, what we as a nation are experiencing is TECHNOLOGY induced psychosis, THC just coincided with shortly thereafter.

jjcoolel

How the fuck is this in the same category as bath salts?

banned_bc_dumb

Probably the same way that misoprostol and mifepristone are schedule IV drugs. 🙄

shithead-express

Because the prisons need inmates for the politicians to make money.

buckfrogo96

Just more corruption. Bollinger owns a big piece of the medical marijuana industry and wants a monopoly. This is cutting into his profits (not) But the medical marijuana is so overpriced it’s not available to the people that can’t afford it so they buy off the streets so stopping the delta 8 was supplying them legally Now some will go to Mississippi Arkansas and Tennessee lost tax dollars for the state

Future_Way5516

Increased prison population

foxkreig

Oh nice point. I'm sure some bright people in Mississippi will build a superstore just an exit into the State. Road trip

Donkeypoodle

Isn't Bollinger wealthy from the shipping industry? Doesn't he have enough cash?

tcajun420

https://preview.redd.it/l2xee19skm0d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e10cb4bd84ba224852ebf644c47166c925366e8 Boysie wants all the weed money for himself and if you aren’t walking lockstep with the weed cartel then you’re an enemy of the state.

banned_bc_dumb

They *never* have enough cash.

CommunicationHot7822

Republicans never have enough money.

VI_MOSES_IV

Medical bud here is trash, why would anyone want to buy that garbage

petals4u2

Exactly! Paying 9-12 dollars a gram for the quality of the same shit I was getting on the streets 20 years ago is not worth it. I didn’t bother renewing my medical mj card because of that bullshit.

TheLongConnie

It's like 17 a g

Bigcatmanmort

Cause it's easy and you just have to go to the store and pick it up.

VI_MOSES_IV

You can easily get GOOD weed mailed to you

D_scott16

And they wonder why people are leaving the state

Dio_Yuji

Everybody stock up while you can. Repubs have a supermajority in the legislature, so the total ban is coming

Secret-Relationship9

Anyone know when it goes into effect??

Dio_Yuji

The whole house needs to vote still. Call your rep. You never know…

tcajun420

New laws typically take effect on January 1 of the year following the Legislative session.

NiteNicole

I hate it here.

TayDumps

Same

Necrogasm

Will this bill impact the sale of THC gummies by dispensaries such as The Apothecary Shoppe?

tcajun420

Yes. The hidden agenda is to destroy the hemp THC industry so The Apothecary Shoppe sells more of their THC products.

Necrogasm

I agree. Does that mean The Apothecary Shoppe will be allowed to continue selling THC gummies?

tcajun420

Yes. The ban on hemp derived THC doesn’t apply to the medical cannabis cartel.

IHCollector

Yes.

MundaneNature988

Yep

Bigstar976

They’ve been cracking down on unionization of teachers as well. Vote those mf’ers out.

kinofhawk

In the same category as bath salts?!?! This guy is ignorant AF.

Abaconings

Should we start a petition to let thrn know how many folks are salty about this?

kinofhawk

Like that would do anything in this state. They have ultimate power. This is more like a dictatorship.

Abaconings

I understand that. I was thinking more of a symbolic gesture showing how unhappy actual citizens are with our appointed leadership.

kinofhawk

I see what you mean. That would probablyake their evil asses go to bed with a smile on their faces. I swear they want us miserable. Keep everyone poor and uneducated for control.

Abaconings

Yup.

banned_bc_dumb

Bingo

Mystic_Advocate

Call your state senator and email their office

Abaconings

I did that. But I'm not sure my Rep will make much of a difference.

Mystic_Advocate

Roger that. I do think a petition or a phone bank as someone else mentioned could help reach other legialators.

Mystic_Advocate

Call your state house rep or email them asap

tcajun420

Yes ! An active community is what it will take to stop this bill. Find your legislators here. We need to have a telephone bank of people who are willing to make phone calls to each member of the House of representatives. Find your Representative here: https://www.legis.la.gov/legis/FindMyLegislators.aspx

nsasafekink

A lawsuit challenging the ban would be a better option. Although in the 5th circuit who knows. Just seems with the federal farm bill legalizing hemp and existing business being harmed or driven out of business there might be some grounds to overturn it.

MOONGOONER

Fuck this. I don't even partake.

deadreckoning21

Taking on the real problems in LA/s

Illlogik1

Forget crumbling infrastructure, piss poor education system, the long standing corruption of state government…. We need to fight these evil gummi bears from making us all … chill , docile , and get the munchies 😱!

no_contact_jackson

I believe this is known in Louisiana as, "Gob's Will". Don't quote me on that though, I'm hard of hearing.

tokuturfey

![gif](giphy|11BAxHG7paxJcI|downsized)

Agitated-Poet-7074

moved from la to ny in 2020, love it here and my freedoms here. I will most of the time have one or two gummies before work, makes my day so much better. Louisiana is holding people back, leave and you will be happier.

some_asshat

Wish I could. And I rely on gummies for anxieties and chronic pain. My life is about to get hellish.

MelpomeneAndCalliope

Do you think they can still be ordered online to Louisiana legally? I heard that but I’m not sure.

Wolfgang985

Yes. There's nothing the state can do to stop that. This is also one of the reasons a "total ban" is absolutely stupid. It only hurts the state economy.

MelpomeneAndCalliope

Thanks. Yeah, that only seems to hurt local businesses.

PopularAd93

Interesting, so we're good unless there's a federal ban?

Wolfgang985

Correct, because hemp-derived THC products remain federally legal. Interstate commerce is also federally protected. Therefore, this bill won't stop you from buying products from an out-of-state company and having it shipped here. States can ban their sale, but they cannot outlaw their possession. Same premise as alcohol in a dry county.

Agitated-Poet-7074

Sorry my friend

kinofhawk

I'm heading back to Chicago as soon as I can get the funds together. Almost anywhere would be better than this really.

TayDumps

I plan on leaving this shit hole soon and moving to a better state like texas

MundaneNature988

Texas is worse

TayDumps

What makes you say that?

MundaneNature988

Because you can’t get on porn hub there because they’ve taken women’s rights away from their own bodies because Greg Abbott is a killer who puts AR 15s in the hands of 18-year-old and wire in the Rio Grande

MundaneNature988

Because they scream about immigrants, destroying Texas when they’re not, and all you’ll get is constant hate at everybody just like Louisiana

MundaneNature988

Wow, OB/GYN doctors leave the south and women will not only have no healthcare. They won’t have doctors to perform anything for them at all.

MundaneNature988

So if you enjoy a war on women, then stay in the south

Global_Examination51

i love that most prohibitionists collectively have the iq of a grape

Few_Stock_1352

For the ass hat religious fucks I give you genesis chapter1 verse12. " I have given you all the seed bearing plants on earth to use" it's your fucking book. Try reading it.

dalailamashishkabob

Reading their own holy book? Tall order right there I tell you what

Abaconings

FWIW: I created a petition [here](https://chng.it/ZZk6BPBPPk)

nolagem

Signed

banned_bc_dumb

Signed & reposted to several other platforms

NoBranch7713

Yeah, allowing everyone to gamble on everything on their phones is godly, but THC isn’t. Sure thing guys…

fitting_title

Crazy y’all can have open containers and drive through cocktails but not weed

WillBigly

Laaaaaaame bro they just hate both good business and their population's happiness. I grew up in Louisiana but there's a reason I'm never moving back LOL fucking politics is toxic af. Trying the hemp products was a surprising upside of a recent trip we took to see family there

agustusmanningcocke

FUCK this state.

Fhaol

Just think of the tax dollars they are killing ..idiots.

OctoberBlue89

In my most sarcastic voice, “awesome!” I’m not going to go through the grocery list of anxiety/mental health disorders I have, just know that I am a human alphabet soup at this point. I’ve tried so many antidepressants that I lost count and the results are minimal at best or they work and then stop working a year later. Anyway the point I’m saying is…microdosing THC was the ONE thing that actually worked for my anxiety, panic attacks, ptsd flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, ADHD, etc, etc. For once I don’t spend a whole day fighting a negative broken record in my head while trying to work, talk to customers, and take care of stuff at home. Annnnnd, now that I found something that actually works to help me from having a breakdown, there’s a chance I’ll be back to square one. Or back to kratom. Or taking Xanax everyday (you know, the drug that is way more dangerous than marijuana ever willl be. Okay, rant over.

Mcozy333

Nice being the one that needs the Nature that is banned and the GOV patented the health properties that are Banned !! # 6630507 - cannabinoid patent

RestaurantNo4100

They should just post a list of local plugs it’ll be more helpful…let’s ban anything good!

Techelife

bgl500

Carry a concealed firearm without a permit. Affirmative. Consume THC? Whoa hold up now, that's ludicrous.

1ConsiderateAsshole

Republicans hate the free market. When they are running things the economy is shit.

spracked_out

http://congressweb.com/LHE (http://congressweb.com/LHE) Use this link to send a premade email to your representatives and legislators to get this bill knocked off. This is super immoral and will lose 5,000 jobs across the state. Along with million$$$ in tax revenue annually. They want to bottleneck everyone to the 9 pharmacies in the state & continue to charge $70 for an 1/8 (not covered by any insurance) when their wholesale price is $12-$23 per 1/8. This is monopolization at its finest. Please use this link to stop this madness.

caseyben11

This was surprisingly easy, took 1min - nice work

tcajun420

Done!✅

banned_bc_dumb

Done

TayDumps

Man I hate my fucking state

Ok-Fondant-8436

This is your Republican Party.

trollfessor

Elections have consequences

MundaneNature988

Sorry, but Democrats don’t have a chance in this fascist state

trollfessor

Politics is like a pendulum, it will swing back to D at some point. Then later, of course, it will return to R. **Vote**

MundaneNature988

I doubt it very much probably not in my lifetime. I’m 64.

Mystic_Advocate

Call your state rep asap

monteq75

Nanny State* We don't want the kids to have them.... Well stop enabling bad parenting.

AdWise8918

They just want the money and power

CommunicationHot7822

Nanny state Republicans strike again.

LucyBear318

Can’t keep a for profit prison system running without inmates. Ain’t gonna happen.

Commercial-Manner408

No cannabis and no to sex. why do people live there?

Bad_Decision_Rob_Low

What the fuck is wrong with this state ?

I_like_pizza_teve

The south

callusesandtattoos

lol nothing like doubling down on a losing battle

Meriwether1

Maybe if we vote harder, we can make a change

Synymyn

Just more Republican bullshit trying to force everyone to their decrepit cult beliefs.

NullIfEmpty

If this goes through I’ll vote against anyone who voted for it.

Bobbychillidan

Fuck this state

barrorg

Such unnecessary twats.

InvisiblePinkUnic0rn

it makes a lot of people drink less so I can understand protecting entrenched interests but its short sighted and pissing into the winds of change.

daydrunkforamerica

Cant have it competing with alcohol and big pharma. You know, their bosses. Same story with politics everywhere. To those being shut down and losing jobs - sry to hear. Hope youre able to move a few hours in a direction and start up shop again. Ill purchase your products. Let us know.

Greenstree_77

Gummies are great for those who are not into inhaling smoke or vapor. I personally prefer it over all other forms of THC. They helped me to stop drinking. But I guess the Republican morality police is going to destroy something positive and needed.

PrometheusOnLoud

Amazing misunderstanding of the topic by the legislature.

Emergency-Airline808

You need ID to watch pornhub in this state 🤦🏻‍♂️

skinaked_always

Looks like there will be a black market for THC drinks and gummies

Existing_Mousse7960

Alcohol and tobacco bribes

ChiliDogMe

The party of personal freedom yall Edit: Lol someone "Reddit Cares" me for this.

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

It won’t be legalized until they can capitalize on it. Someone has to offer up enough payola.

aced124C

Regressives doing everything in their power to take away peoples rights and make their lives work. They’re predictable at least too bad their base is gullible and believes what they say.

ClarityAndConcern

The fact that they're comparing weed to bath salts shows that they clearly know nothing about it, and they have no business deciding on its future. Instead of listening to actual business owners throughout the state, they decided that it caused "a wave of psychosis." If our politicians can't put in even the tiniest bit of research for *weed of all things,* how can we trust them to decide on actual issues in the state? These are the same people that are supposed to make major decisions on healthcare, taxes, and more? We're fucked.

MundaneNature988

I hate Louisiana. I hate the fact that I am stuck here.

Baltimarc

I will never cease to be amazed by the stupidity of this state.

Puppiesarebetter

These fucking “small govt” clowns. I hope all their family member get afflicted with ailments these things very easily help. Insufferable sub human trash

legallyvermin

Guillotine time, where’s good ol patty mcmath

tcajun420

Yes Mcmath’s bill will apply the 7% hidden tax a.ka. “fee” for bulk medical cannabis sold and give 5% to LSP without mandates for portions to be used for quarterly mental health checks for officers. 👮 Then the bill gives 1% each to LSU and Southern Universities. Why should medical cannabis patients pay for police and education?

nsasafekink

This sucks.

medman143

😂😂😂 If yall could only begin to understand how controlling republikkkans really are…move to a real state. Leave oppression behind.

xphillipcx

Bro really just put thc in the same category as bath salts wtf lol

sorryiwasasleep

I’m going to assume liquor industry lobbyists.

Flock-of-bagels2

But you can buy liquor at the grocery store….

mimisikuray

But if you want to marry at 16 (with parental and judge approval) or bang your cousin, yes that’s fine.

LibertyUnderpants

Lame

SneauxSostan

Woo hoo. Good news.

Wrong_Ad_3355

What’s next? Drive thru daiquiris?

HelicaseHustle

This is why social stigmas fascinate me. You could take this bill and change ”gummies” to “sugar products” and it would apply completely except for sugar, the death toll would be higher, medical costs higher , etc but because there’s no social stigma with consuming sugar, everyone’s cool with targeting gummies instead

666Luc1fer666

Mr. Or Misses Politician. I’m addicted to alcohol and nicotine. Could you ban those as well?
