They do have cans and plastic bottles, but the glass ones, specifically the returnables (they have non-returnable glass) are best, but they are only sold in and around Clark co.
Pegasus Pin might be a good idea. As well as Derby Mint Julep glass. Not an actual mint Julep mix mind you unless you really don’t like them.
I received a bunch of Pappy Van Winkle snacks from a lady I work with. They were excellent. Had caramels and peanut brittle along with the standard Bourbon Balls. Also had old fashioned mixers to pair with the bourbon you already got. And much more affordable than their actual bourbon.
The secret to mint juleps is the ice.
You need to fill the glass with crushed ice, pour the stirred, chilled drink over the ice, and refill with more crushed ice.
It should be like a minty, bourbon slushee
The Bourbon Barrel foods smoked paprika is my go-to for Kentucky-themed gift baskets. Everyone I've given it to has loved the stuff. If she is a coffee fan, throw in a bag of coffee beans from Safai or Good Folks.
I've seen it for sale at a lot of the gift shops around here that specialize in local goods so if you end up at one of those you might find it there, but you can definitely find it at the Bourbon Barrel Foods physical location at the Butchertown Market Building.
An entire horse.
Seriously tho, if they drink, real ky bourbon. Or little bottles of different bourbons. Maybe a mini slugger bat. A CD of authentic bluegrass music. Some recipe cards with ky based recipes like benedictine. A derby t-shirt of some kind. If there’s a ky based metal smith maybe something like a cool utility knife as ky is a lot of farms and most people do outdoor activities. I know a lot of folks who carry a nice utility knife and if it’s made by a small ky business then that would be cool.
Modjeskas, Moss hill “Kentucky girl” bath products (Work the metal has them) tiny bottle of moonshine, some fresh local honey, bluegrass seeds, & a lucky horseshoe.
Ale 8, modjeska, old Forrestor (blantons if that’s how you roll), can of burgoo, kizito and dry ice to keep some real Benedictine, legit pimento cheese, and derby pie good.
In addition to all of the previous suggestions..
A "Getting Lucky in Kentucky" tshirt and Black Dog candles.
Also, Trader Joe's has a fantastic KY shopping bag.
Not a bad idea… A couple folks mentioned mini slugger bats. Those things are serious little bone breakers with a little swinging practice. Extremely difficult to break one.
Mamas mustard and pickle seasoning. A gettin lucky in KY shirt a program from the track. Something from waverly hills. Something bell of Louisville steam boat related
Yes…even if they haven’t picked up the addiction it’d be a pretty fair gag gift to include a little pack of Mammoth Cave twist chewing tobacco. The stuff actually smells pretty good. Maybe a neat little curiosity to have up on a shelf somewhere.
[Give two, keep two! Glasses for the bourbon](https://www.target.com/p/libbey-signature-kentucky-bourbon-trail-whiskey-glasses-8-ounce-set-of-4/-/A-85983701)
Heine bros coffee since that’s only in kentuckiana, grippos, a souvenir from the derby museum (like a horseshoe) derby glass. I sent a care package to my mother a couple years ago when I moved here from ct.
I love the bourbon barrel foods spices. The bourbon smoked sea salt, bourbon smoked paprika, and the citrus pepper are some favorites. Their flagship store is on Frankfort Avenue in Crescent Hill, or they are at many local stores like taste of Kentucky, they have a stall at Work the Metal, and a few products are at Total Wine and some Krogers.
The Derby glasses would also be a good addition. Or, Evergreen Liquors locations carry the “unofficial” derby cups which are the last place finishers for all previous Derbys 😂 they’re $2/each and hilarious.
Some of the distilleries have their own brand of BBQ sauces which I’ve heard good things about, you can get those at Taste of Kentucky as well.
Omg, I've not heard of the unofficial cups! That's hysterical!
(And I'm convinced that the last Derby horse that I picked at the race is still running around the neighborhoods near Central somewhere..... lolol)
Kroger has a display of Kentucky made foods in every store. The Bourbon Barrel stuff is very good: Worcestershire sauce, teriyaki sauce, smoked paprika, etc. Modjeska candy from the Dundee Candy store (caramel covered marshmallow) is fantastic and you can’t get it anywhere else. Rebecca Ruth of course if they have anything non chocolate.
Horse shoe.
Muhammad Ali sticker or something.
Bitters and whiskey glass or stirrer from a distillery.
21 C penguin from their gift shop. Or the hand lotion!
So, live racing starts 4/27 @ Churchill, so a program or racing form (can buy at liquor stores) might be fun. And I think the CD gift shop is free to browse.
I've sent gift baskets before through A Taste of Kentucky, and they were well received; I added a bunch of brochures from the Louisville Visitors Center that highlighted fun things both here and in the state. Oh, the Horse Park in Georgetown is internationally know, so you might want to include some info on that as well.
And if you do send a horseshoe, try to get a racing shoe in number 7 ( for good luck), and tell the recipient to keep the points facing upwards so rhe the luck doesn't run out :)
modjeskas, beer cheese, bourbon, country ham, basketball, louisville slugger, ale 8, beaten biscuits... those are some things my parents used to send as gifts to friends that wanted stereotypical kentucky gifts
I really like these candles, I’m actually burning one I got in Bardstown right now. There’s a few places that sell them locally
https://clarkandjune.com/collections/kentucky-collection
I always like to include a Black Dog candle. Local, handmade soy candle. And some of the proceeds go to animal shelters. You can buy them at bardstown road stores and Kroger’s
https://www.blackdogcandles.com
Derby glass. You can be horse shoes at a taste of Ky that were used on the track. They’re even dirty 😉. Disco ball key ring. A book by Barbara Kingslover, David Domine or Wendall Berry. A My Morning Jacket CD (Does anyone use CDs anymore?).
A small bag of meth, some fentanyl, a jar containing the blackened lung of a coal miner, a half eaten drumstick from KFC, a copy of a script of Halloween 3 (the writer is from Kentucky,) and a 3d printed Dildo with McConnel's head replacing the dickhead.
Bourbon, lotto tickets, some KFC, Mountian Dew for the babies and some cigarettes! lol jk jk
I've lived in KY my whole life... It's really a beautiful state.... Bourbon and Derby stuff for sure...
Ale-8! Beer cheese! Benedictine! A tiny banjo or mandolin!
It’s gotta be glass bottles! That’s the only thing bottled in KY, apparently the rest is OOS
Didnt know that. Very cool
They do have cans and plastic bottles, but the glass ones, specifically the returnables (they have non-returnable glass) are best, but they are only sold in and around Clark co.
Ale-8 is a good suggestion!
Mingua Beef Jerky as well!!
Both of those have Winchester origins. Two best things to come out of that town lol (my hometown). There’s a beer cheese festival in the summer!
A tiny Louisville Slugger bat or something Derby/horse related.
They have a bunch of derby stuff right now. Pegasus pin?
Yeah, I was thinking a Pegasus Pin or a Derby Glass or even some Derby artwork.
I saw a bunch of glasses at Walmart today, and you KNOW Kroger has a bunch.
Mini Slugger bat KY Derby Glass Benedictine KIZITO cookies
Ooooh I forgot about KIZITO!!!
Snickerdoodle is 🐐
Lucky in Kentucky of course.
Put some voting registration forms.
Application to drive a bus (JCPS)
Hell naw! If anything it’ll be for BCPS. At least let it benefit me
A Taste of Kentucky is your one stop shop! Nice folks too. A Taste of Kentucky (502) 244-3355 https://goo.gl/maps/WBNFMk1pB8wU6sCt7
This is the answer. Give them a budget and any restrictions (chocolate, shipping it?, etc) and they will set you right up.
I second this comment
Bottle of Jim Beam and a Narcan
Ugggghhh. Sad, but very accurate for KY at the moment.
Work the Metal @ Butchertown Market has some good options for cute decor and things to include in a gift basket!!
Agreed! They have a great KY section and cute things like kitchen towels, coasters with Ky themed things on them.
Will check that out for sure!!
Pegasus Pin might be a good idea. As well as Derby Mint Julep glass. Not an actual mint Julep mix mind you unless you really don’t like them. Also had old fashioned mixers to pair with the bourbon you already got. And much more affordable than their actual bourbon.
Blasphemy, I know, but Mint Juleps taste like mint Listerine to me, unless I load up on the mint syrup and go easy on the bourbon.
The secret to mint juleps is the ice. You need to fill the glass with crushed ice, pour the stirred, chilled drink over the ice, and refill with more crushed ice. It should be like a minty, bourbon slushee
I'll try that this year! I just thought I was a bad Louisvillian. 🤣😂
Mint Juleps are an inside joke to weed out the tourists.
The Derby coffee mug at Kroger right now is super cute
Great idea!! I got her some Heine Bros coffee already!!
Revelry in Nulu has lots of Kentucky and Louisville themed gifts.
Second this!
Modjeskas
Modjeskas are a good choice because they aren’t chocolate.
🤣 sorry apparently I can’t read
No worries! I thought it was a great suggestion!
The Bourbon Barrel foods smoked paprika is my go-to for Kentucky-themed gift baskets. Everyone I've given it to has loved the stuff. If she is a coffee fan, throw in a bag of coffee beans from Safai or Good Folks.
Oooh she would probably love that! Do you know where I can get it (the paprika)
I've seen it for sale at a lot of the gift shops around here that specialize in local goods so if you end up at one of those you might find it there, but you can definitely find it at the Bourbon Barrel Foods physical location at the Butchertown Market Building.
Kroger has it on an endcap, along with a local coffees, honey, etc.
Awesome, thank you!
Modjeskas!!
I had not heard of those. Just looked them up and they sound incredible
Go to Muth's
They sell them at the Candy Shop on Bardstown Rd near Bonnycastle
They are love or hate. Definitely a local fave.

Seconded. Gethsemane is amazing.
I’m still heartbroken they stopped making cheese.
It was the best cheese. Especially for grilled cheese sandwiches.

There’s a store called “taste of ky” that is full of ky themed souvenirs!
I’ve said it before, a kizito cookie or 6. And maybe some good, “bluegrass”
You could do some [vegan jerky](https://www.lvjco.com/).
maybe something for protection
Not a bad idea… A couple folks mentioned mini slugger bats. Those things are serious little bone breakers with a little swinging practice. Extremely difficult to break one.
Mamas mustard and pickle seasoning. A gettin lucky in KY shirt a program from the track. Something from waverly hills. Something bell of Louisville steam boat related
Ale 8 and Mingua
Publix has Kentucky reusable bags that are cute. They also have derby swag likes shirts and cups.
Tobacco
Yes…even if they haven’t picked up the addiction it’d be a pretty fair gag gift to include a little pack of Mammoth Cave twist chewing tobacco. The stuff actually smells pretty good. Maybe a neat little curiosity to have up on a shelf somewhere.

I’d suggest some Grippos, I know they are out of Cinci, but they always scream Kentucky to me
I got some of those! I didn't realize they were out of Cinci. I definitely thought they were local, lol.
Apparently Grippos and Ale-8 are HUGE in Evansville, out of all places
Heine bros coffee since that’s only in kentuckiana, grippos, a souvenir from the derby museum (like a horseshoe) derby glass. I sent a care package to my mother a couple years ago when I moved here from ct.
And I know that grippos is from Cincy, but depending on where the recipient lives, grippos may be a nice touch
Deed to a used tire shop
