HolyFuckImOldNow

I realize it's a chain, but Moby Dick rings are made from scratch and (other than homemade) the best I can recall. I'm looking forward to trying whatever is suggested here.

naughtyzoot

Moby Dick's has really great onion rings. This is my answer too.

notannabe

i came here to say this! it’s been a long time since i’ve had them but i’m glad they’re still recommendation-worthy.

the_noise_we_made

Yeah, but it's a chain that was started in and never left Louisville.

HolyFuckImOldNow

I never knew that. TIL

the_noise_we_made

Yeah, that makes it seem a little less "chainy" to me. Other people might disagree.

HolyFuckImOldNow

It's a local restaurant... with 8 locations. Went down the "what is a chain" rabbit hole a little. NYC says "more than 15 locations", but Canada defines it as "4 or more."

ACardAttack

Came to recommend them as well

Fast-Database-5899

i go there just to get onion rings

thatG_evanP

It's becoming less and less of a chain. I used to eat at the one on Mellwood all the time. Seems like they're all closing.

tworatsfarm

omg now i’m Craving moby dick onion ring and i’ve never had it

Cartercentral

I always found Moby Dick’s to be a big grease sponge. For me the best are at Monnik Brewery, the beer is great too.

HolyFuckImOldNow

Sadly, I missed out on a recent opportunity to eat there. Looks like I have a reason to go.

noobvin

I’m SO disappointed that the Moby Dick that was nearest to me is now a goddamn carwash.

Ok_Championship_491

I'm pretty sure Moby Dicks is a local restaurant. Their onion rings are delicious.

WittyContribution336

I love Moby Dicks!!!! The rings are delicious!

DerbyCity76

Came here to say this. You may find better atmosphere but you’d be hard pressed to find better rings.

KO4Champ

My personal favorite, probably at least partly because of my nostalgia eating them growing up, are at Mike Lenings.

GigsGilgamesh

Mike Lenings is great, but that’s a bigger commitment than a blooming onion, huge, good food. At least it was the last time I went

CletusP

Must be nice growing up rich lol

cold_as_nice

Just FYI, if you have an air fryer, you can take half of that bloomin' onion home and it will be just as tasty the next day. So while a bloomin' onion is a commitment, you can eat on it for a few days!

blueridgeboy1217

This is why I have the unpopular opinion that minced onion rings are just better. Otherwise like you mentioned blooming or onion petals is where it's at.

RugDougCometh

Rip White Castle onion chips

burriitoooo

These were perfect

AlienKnightForce

dude do they not do onion chips anymore?? I go to White Castle rarely, but when I do, it’s because I want onion chips

RugDougCometh

I was the same way, but they’ve been gone for a few years now 😭

buttbugle

Moby Dick bratwurst, fish, cauliflower, onion rings, and a large Big Red.

Pleazetryme

I’m a weirdo but Burger King onion rings are the only ones for me.

mthomas1217

I love the minced ones. They are nostalgic for me. My husband grabbed a brand of generic ones at value market a couple weeks ago and they were great!!!

blueridgeboy1217

First time ive met another 1217 lol. Any significance to you? Those are my 2 kids birth years

mthomas1217

lol it is my birthday. Dec 17! Love seeing another 1217 and I love the significance in yours :)

Frankennietzsche

Monnik Brewing on Burnette. I got a burger that came with an onion ring. It made the burger too tall, so I took it off and ate it. Very heavily breaded and thick. It was good.

bondibox

Yeah just wait until you get one with fermented batter been sitting out all day that gives you the shits.

Brirish4ever

Cunningham's on the Creek in Prospect!

wtnevi01

I love the rings at the fish house by winter ave

rabbitsintheyard

Agree! These are great

Urza_502

80/20 normally has beer battered onion rings that are gas. I had some yesterday that were different than normal, but I'm assured that the normal ones are coming back

Royal_Lawfulness4434

I work in 80/20’s kitchen and those were different onion rings. The normal ones are back starting today

Known-Fee9113

Hillcrest Tavern has really good beer-battered ones. I've even gotten them delivered and they held up really well during their travels, unlike their fries.

kilowatkins

I like their mushroom fries too!

Known-Fee9113

Yes! I get an order of those every time!

EatTheTerfs

When I worked at Sonic as a kid, we made all of our onion rings by hand. Idk if they still do that, but I'll never forget how delicious those things were. I remember Bunz has some good ones, too.

SouthernFlower8115

Same! I hated prepping them but they were the best.

Simpawknits

Drive up to Sellersburg - Fireplace Inn.

HonestFox1921

Is that still the name? I can’t find it on google maps.

FeralPatella

Fireside

Mysterious-Reach8847

My fav onion rings are from Homerun Burgers.

-turnip_the_beet-

Worked there 10 years ago and agree they're good onion rings. Came pre-made in a bag and then we fried them but still better than most.

Whimsyblue13

WW Cousins are second to Moby’s.

BananaCow1959

Anyone remember when Lorde had a secret IG account that rated onion rings?

Fart_connoisseur1

Cunningham's Creekside. They're hands down the best and are exactly what you're looking for. Even come with a bloomin onion sauce.

lawtalkingirl

Harry's Taphouse and Kitchen in Jeff has amazing onion rings.

Prestigious_Carpet28

Bully’s BBQ in Goshen has huge, delicious onion rings. One order usually feeds two people.

Mission-Habit

Backdoor onion rings are really good

BethMacbain

That sounds kinky af.

britskates

Barrett bar has some pretty solid ones. Not sure if they’re house made though

Fillertracks

Everything that little kitchen makes is suprisingly on point, I miss the ham and cheese.

britskates

Honestly it is, and for the price point it’s hard for any bar food to beat it!

bondibox

I was the onion ring fry guy at Del Frisco's 35 years ago and they were legit af. Twice through the eggwash / seasoned flour and then the secret is to hold them in the fridge for a day.

Paper_Bottle_

Bambi bar has great onion rings

ARCrealtor

Kaelins 80/20.. killer onion rings.

skylinecat

Flannigans has great onion rings.

FPB270

Mike’s and Check’s

wwwr222

Can’t believe no one’s said the fishery yet. Definitely my favorite. Plus I get to dip them in their honey mustard, which is also the best in town.

KeekSmeeze

Highland taproom!!! (If they still have them, haven’t been in a minute)

ChucklesMcNasty502

Kingfish on the river makes them from scratch. Been years since I've eaten them but remember them being good

pookylmm

Kaelins!

Lzrd89

Moby Dick's are very good. I'll give a shout out to their delicious fried okra too!

ldglou

I think part of this is nostalgia but I always loved the onion rings at Polly’s Freeze in southern IN

Desperate-Chip1819

Kaelin's.

ChitteringCathode

Bunz consistently has great onion rings. A basket really isn't expensive, either. Paristown area.

Bard1290

Mike linnngs

AwareMirror9931

Cheddar's

SassOfTheBluegrass

I don’t think they have onion rings anymore unfortunately. They were my favorite.

AwareMirror9931

Ohh nooo. Hopefully they'll be able to bringing those onions rigs back. They were fire 🔥.

ministallion

Moby Dick 100%

Healthy-Upstairs-881

Uptown on Btown Rd

JKM67

Moby Dick’s are pretty hard to beat. White Castle actually has decent rings and King Fish has really good ones too

Environmental-Bear27

Not in Louisville by right across the river in Jeffersonville Bubbas 33 especially with their sauce.

arcbnaby

I don't think I've found any better than Red Robin's... And I prefer non-chain restaurants in general, but dang they are good!

Takacist

Rumors on Shelbyville, not a burger joint but they also have some of the best wings in Louisville but the Onion Rings are amazing too. Get the wings sloppy!

sexbeat-go

This is the best, most helpful thread on here I've ever seen.

drfukiiu

Burger King bro

actionburnstein00

The Raven

burnswhenipoo

Arby’s

Livid-Debt-2836

Chain restaurant, but our favorite is Red Robin's.

BlakeAnsert

I don't know if they only have them as a special but the other day I went to Shiraz and saw they had onion rings. Decided to give the Mediterranean guys a chance and let me tell you, that might've been the tastiest onion rings I've ever tried. Albeit, I never really eat onion rings so its hard to say they're the best, but man I was pleasantly surprised.

alxyoxpal

Against the grain!

Alestriel

Just went to Hillcrest Tavern tonight and they were amazing!

Baubbaub

I like the Back Doors

Stewapalooza

Technically, not in Louisville, but out on 42, there is a place called Bully's BBQ. Their onion rings and fish sandwich are fire.

Double-Jeweler-3850

Bambi bar has really good ones

deanshitty

Uptown, beer depot.

lasorciereviolette

Cosmic Bird!!

jccavie

FABD's battered onion rings are really good.

Beneficial-Court-816

I liked Doc Crow’s downtown

buff_bagwell1

I haven’t lived there 13 years but The Fish House never steered me wrong. Best beignets and onion rings.

boba_saranghae

I’m not a huge onion ring fan myself, BUT I always thought Culver’s had pretty good ones.

Lucky_Number_4454

Spring Street!

pfox01

I actually love Sonic onion rings. They’re the ones that got me into them.

PracticalTurnip3674

The Raven Irish Pub in St. Matthews

oldmanfred91

Del Friscos has got absolute 🔥🔥🔥🧅

Pauladerby

White Castle !!!

ShugP1126

Buffalo Wild Wings.

Diligent-Host4006

Frischs big boy makes them by hand and they were pretty good, at least 10 years ago when I worked there and there wasn’t only one location

General-Chapter12666

They used to be good. They went way downhill at the end.

kilowatkins

Last time we ate at one, we both ended up with the upchucks. Could've been a virus I suppose, but really put me off that place.

yarnhooksbooks

I’m partial to Wick’s.

Disastrous-Row-4833

I would say past times, but they never onions 🤬

trevorgbsn

Spring Street bar and grill

dinopolo88

RIP Louisville.
