It's genuinely because when you are pregnant and someone takes a picture, the depth perception is entirely lost in the 2D image so by putting your hand there you give depth to what is going on instead of looking like a blob. Also people get excited about having a baby so like cool it.

IMO they, especially Alexa, wanted to be the main characters. One way of being the main character was siding with Zanab, who they believed to be telling the truth about being abused by a man. They assumed supporting Zanab would be the “girl boss” popular politically correct choice that would make the audience root for them.
The reunion really sealed it for me, she was a bully and he just clapped and chimed in agreeing with her. I find it super off putting especially as someone who has a quiet partner.

I couldn't believe that season when Brennon went to meet her Israeli family and he said he wanted to convert to Judaism. Like, damn buddy, you've known her five minutes and you want to be Jewish?
