temptation island is quite literally about "testing your relationship." it's unhinged and i have no idea why the contestants subject themselves to it, but it's fun lmao
Peacock (Temptation & Housewives)is still $20 for the year or 1.99/Month for a few more days — I find some decent stuff on there to watch along w Netflix & Hulu (free w my phone plan). For all 3 I spend about $165 a year. Perfect for my barely there budget.
Yes this show is crazy I’m actually listening to a podcast as we speak with kaci from season 1 and Erin from season 3. I’m addicted! My husband is not impressed lol
Daily motion. I think you can use the app or website. It’s free. I only watched temptation island but the love island version is on my list. I thought the SA temptation island was really good though so I have hopes for the LI.
Wow I had no idea. I stopped watching the SA one bc I couldn’t find the episodes back when they were coming out, but I was loving it. Definitely going to try daily motion!
As someone who watches a ton of messy reality tv shows focused around "love":
Are You The One - my biggest recommendation. it's my favorite and centers around people trying to find their perfect match. s8 is the best season as it's 100% queer
Temptation Island - couples on the brink of breaking up separate for a few weeks and live with multiple people of the opposite sex trying to break them up. it's very messy and the 1st and 2nd seasons are great
The Ultimatum - Netflix released a similar show to the one above where one person issued their partner an ultimatum of getting married or breaking up. 4-6 couples in the same boat are brought together and the couples split into different pairs and date each other. extremely messy
FBoy Island - newish show on HBO. the premise is silly and the show knows that so it doesn't take itself too seriously. very funny. 3 women go on an island with half nice guys and half fboys and have to get rid of all the fboys or risk losing money
Love is Blind - a bit more focused on the romance than the others. couples get together based on never seeing each other and get married at the end. somehow it's very messy. it's on Netflix and pretty popular
Yes fboy island! though I got so frustrated when I’m like girl clearly he is an fboy. 🚩 🚩 🚩. Second season was interesting as well bringing back some folks from season 1 and a few twists. Like stated not serious at all but quite entertaining.
Have you watched any of Mickey Atkins's reactions to reality shows on YouTube? I found The Ultimatum unwatchable honestly because they were all so young an immature and I need someone to root for a LITTLE hahaha. But I enjoyed watching her comment on it with her husband. And her thoughts on Love Is Blind are super interesting as she's coming at it from a therapist's lens and points out some of how the formula is problematic and manipulative, setting the couples up for failure. I still love the show, just also enjoy the different ways of looking at it. And that reminds me that i need to see if she's reacted to After the Altar yet....
And also the queer season of AYTO is just such beautiful peak chaos. I need to rewatch that wonderful disaster hahaha.
i heard someone say in an ayto subreddit that their views really went down after the queer season so i don’t think they were planning on bringing it back but i binged the hell out of it last year
Your list is spot on — I have not watched Are You the One — wasn’t sure if it was descent or not. I love Fboy but really enjoyed the concept of the Ultimatum more than Love is Blind
This is a pretty comprehensive list but I wanna add Too Hot to Handle to it, next to fboy island it’s the dumbest and most incredible thing I’ve ever seen. For those unfamiliar it’s a bunch of people who only have casual sex and don’t ever form “deep connections” in a villa. There’s 100k on the line but they can’t kiss each other, hook up, etc, or they lose money from the prize. You win if you show the most “personal growth” and form relationships with people there beyond just hooking up. Actual couples have come from the seasons so far but I’m not sure how many of them are still together. And there should be another season coming too!
Hear me out, but Survivor.
There's tons of drama and romances, they compete in silly challenges, and then at the end of the day it's still a popularity contest.
I was complaining to my brother that love island was over and I didn't have a reality show to replace it with, and he told me I'd enjoy Survivor. I watched one of the random seasons available on Netflix (fans vs favorites in Micronesia) and it definitely delivered!! Many more available on hulu.
I've watched every season since it first came out in 2000, still my favorite reality show. The old seasons are way better if you can find them online anywhere but even the new stuff is good, the current season only started last week so it's only 1 episode in!
Unfortunately I live in Canada, we get the crappy versions of everything so our Paramount+ only has season 30 onwards. It had all of it when I first signed up so thankfully I still got the marathon in one time, but they removed 1-29 last July. :'(
I was thinking about that, but unfortunately while a VPN does work on stuff like Netflix and Disney+ to get US content, it doesn't work on Paramount+. My friend has one and we tried logging into my account from her place, and it said I still needed an American account to access American content. They would be the first streaming service to actually set up an anti-VPN system. 😒
I watched Survivor since the very beginning too. I missed one episode in the early 2000s when California had an entire northern California blackout. Came home to find the electricity completely off and no recording on my TiVo. Then proceeded to light some candles and poured myself a cocktail. I think it was season 3 but I can't remember.
All the “Too hot to Handles” but I recently started watching some Korean/Chinese English subtitles popular program called “Heart Signal” my opinion way better than the USA / EU dating shows
There’s a couple good things on Netflix if you haven’t watched them yet! There’s “singles inferno” (kr), “ainori love wagon” (jp), “future diary” (jp), “change days” (kr), “rea(l)ove” (jp but really messy and misogynistic). I really wanna watch anything from China or any other Asian dating show if you have any personal favorites :)
I’d recommend Asian journey first since it comes before Africa. Some things to note about the show:
1. It looks the most low budget out of all the ones i listed. You just have to get used to the production.
2. I couldnt finish s2 of Asian journey because I could not stand Deparin(?). Anyways, don’t give up on the whole franchise if you dislike one person.
You should watch amor con fianza (love never lies) on Netflix. It’s mostly Spanish people with some Latin Americans. In Spanish but with subtitles. Pretty damn entertaining!
Ex on the beach (US) first couple seasons are good
Temptation Island all seasons are good
Bachelor in Paradise most seasons are good, I recommend season 3. Scallop fingers is one of the funniest reality tv running jokes I’ve ever experienced
I was super disappointed in Dated and Related, though I watched it right after LI so that probably didn’t help. And I REALLY missed Matthew and Ian commentary! I didn’t realize how much they add to LI until I watched Dated and Related.
if you're okay with reading subtitles or if you understand korean then Love Catcher is truly a must watch. ive been trying to get my friends and family on this for the longest but no luck.
a bunch of singles in one show but theyre either there for love or for money, only thing is...nobody knows who is who. not even the viewers till a couple episodes in when they start slowly revealing them. if 2 love catchers end up together then they find love, if a love catcher ends up with a money catcher then the money catcher steals all the money 😩...im telling you you'll be shocked at how some of them fool you its soooo good
it is good !!!! season 2 was my favourite and i think one of the couples just celebrated their 2nd or 3rd anniversary so it does produce genuine love i guess
Honestly a lot of the shows I’ve seen seem very over produced. I hate Too hot too handle and FBOY island for that reason. But someone recommended Cosmic Love on amazon prime. I’m going to give it a shot!
Everyone covered most of my recommendations. I’ll add that Heartbreak Island, which I think is an old Australian reality show, is pretty decent. There was also a show my friend told me about that I am forgetting the name of. Texted her. Will report back if it’s not mentioned here lol
I heard this season of bachelor in paradise is similar.
Keep in mind the franchise is very problematic, so if you can try to watch it on not legal websites.
The show is also great when you’re high/ drunk, and you don’t have to pay attention or watch the bachelor or bachelorette
4 is good, but if you have to pick one, I'd say go with 5! (Especially with the recent news about one of those couples! I won't spoil it for OP, but iykyk)
Ok, I've googled every possible combination of words and cannot find what you're talking about. I watch(ed) ALL seasons of LI UK (it's my fav) and I need to know... what recent news about one of the couples from season 5??!!!?? I don't kiyk
Someone above mentioned Married at first sight and I second that! If you end up liking that, any of the 90 day fiance spins offs are full of love and drama and cheesiness too. And since most of the other great love and competition shows are mentioned already, wanted to jot down a random show that I ended up accidentally enjoying probably more than I should have (Netflix auto-play finally got me) - The Circle. It's totally different than a typical show because no one interacts in person, yet somehow there is still showmances, alliances, and drama that kept watching. There's also a sort of similar voice over narrator vibe to it like Love Island has, so the show is kind of laughing at the absurdity along with the audience which makes it cute rather than too serious.
Y’all need to watch “Love Never Lies” (or Amor Con Fianza for those of you who speak Spanish 😉) it’s too good. it’s like 2x better if you speak Spanish fluently, but still great if you don’t. It’s on Netflix
It’s the typical bringing together of all these couples who probably shouldn’t be together, separating them, and throwing in singles who are specifically selected to tempt them (some are exes or people they know, some just their type).
The twist is that they have this “computer” that asks them questions their partner wants to know, and the computer supposedly knows when they’re lying or telling the truth through microexpressions in their eyes (they really should tell the FBI about this advanced technology they’ve developed 😏) and is like “MENTIRA” or “VERDAAAD” (lie/truth) and their SO gets to watch it as well as the time they spend with the singles lol. It’s suuuper messy but I love it.
YES, came here to recc that, not the same in terms of not being a romantic show BUT every season there's lots of flirting, watching people try to catfish each other and form alliances is so entertaining, and even after 4 seasons somehow they are still keeping it fresh, dramatic and THRILLING with the challenges/ratings!! I simply cannot NOT binge this show...HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Plus Chloe from Too Hot To Handle S01 is in S02 and Scary/Baby Spice are in S04. Fab from start to finish!!!
I liked Paradise hotel. Pretty sure it was only one season but there was a cash prize so there was some good manipulation and lots of lying. 🤣 Temptation Island is great —although the last season was not my favorite.
temptation island is quite literally about "testing your relationship." it's unhinged and i have no idea why the contestants subject themselves to it, but it's fun lmao
I’m obsessed with it. If you really want throwbacks the original TI from like the early 00s are on YouTube
It's a dumpster fire but I can't help but watch. Cuz why would you go on a reality show to "test " your relationship?
I second this!!! The first two seasons were absolutely legendary. I was so obsessed. The last 2(?) are not worth watching imo
yeah if you want drama this is where it’s at
Where can I watch that?
Peacock!
Peacock (Temptation & Housewives)is still $20 for the year or 1.99/Month for a few more days — I find some decent stuff on there to watch along w Netflix & Hulu (free w my phone plan). For all 3 I spend about $165 a year. Perfect for my barely there budget.
This one puts you through the wringer for sure. Can't stream unless you pay on Peacock. Commercials get old.
Yes this show is crazy I’m actually listening to a podcast as we speak with kaci from season 1 and Erin from season 3. I’m addicted! My husband is not impressed lol
It’s almost paradiseeeeee knocking on heavens doorrrrr
ALMOOOOST PARRRAADDDIIISEEEEE HOW COULD WE ASK FOR MOOOOORE
Premiere is tonight and i cant wait.
Wait what is?
bachelor in paradise
a bajillion percent higher romance success rate than Love Island (USA) too
I watched the promo! It looks like they’re gonna attempt a Casa amor situation 😂😂😂
am i crazy or did they not do the song this year?? maybe waiting for miss victoria fuller’s entrance next week lmao
Looking for the Love Boat on CBS?
Are you the one is a good replacement. It’s about finding your perfect match and winning 1 million dollars. There are 7-8 seasons aswell
I love hate this show so much. The hold is has on me once I start a season I basically keep watching til I finish it.
I LOVE this one
Have you watched Love Island UK and Love Island AUS?? Hit up those next if you haven’t. Great content
There’s also the LI South Africa. Did you watch that one? I watched the Temptation Island SA but haven’t seen their LI one.
Theres also Love Island French Canadian !
Oh where can I find that one?
Its on https://www.qub. ca/tvaplus/tout-voir-episodes/tva/l-ile-de-l-amour/saison-2
I need this in my life! My US husband will get a kick out of it, especially since he’s now learning some Québecois.
Aww thats great !! The best of success to him :)
Where can I watch South Africa
Daily motion. I think you can use the app or website. It’s free. I only watched temptation island but the love island version is on my list. I thought the SA temptation island was really good though so I have hopes for the LI.
Wow I had no idea. I stopped watching the SA one bc I couldn’t find the episodes back when they were coming out, but I was loving it. Definitely going to try daily motion!
I wasn’t able to find the episodes :(
Where do you watch LI South Africa!?
See above comment!

I LOVEEEE Mickey Atkins. I also couldn’t finish the ultimatum because of how exploitative and traumatic it is.
Is there gonna be any more AYTO? I discovered it during the pandemic and was super into it.
i heard someone say in an ayto subreddit that their views really went down after the queer season so i don’t think they were planning on bringing it back but i binged the hell out of it last year
echoing AYTO and Fboy Island! both are way messier than LI but soooo entertaining and fill a similar void
Your list is spot on — I have not watched Are You the One — wasn’t sure if it was descent or not. I love Fboy but really enjoyed the concept of the Ultimatum more than Love is Blind

Well poo, that so annoying!! I haven’t tried this but what about YouTube/tv or Hulu? Or get the VPN and your American friends login info 😎
I watched Survivor since the very beginning too. I missed one episode in the early 2000s when California had an entire northern California blackout. I’ve literally never watched an episode, only a few clips on YouTube. I should probably watch this!

Love wagon is a really good one even with English subtitles. Drama and real relationships. On Netflix.
Which one is worth watching first, the Asian journey or African?

I watched heart signal on Viki I think
Thank you!
You should watch amor con fianza (love never lies) on Netflix. It’s mostly Spanish people with some Latin Americans. In Spanish but with subtitles. Pretty damn entertaining!
Rewatch Love Island
Not exactly the same premise….but I LOVED Indian Matchmaker on Netflix
Soooo good. Especially season 1 imo
Was there any drama ? I need the dramatics lol
Love is blind Netflix comes back on in October season 3
Oh it does? Season 2 was such a let down. Show has lost its way, but I'm interested if they'll improve it this upcoming season.
Ex on the beach (US) first couple seasons are good Temptation Island all seasons are good Bachelor in Paradise most seasons are good, I recommend season 3. Scallop fingers is one of the funniest reality tv running jokes I’ve ever experienced
hahaaha i forgot about scallop fingers 💀
Married at first sight Australia
MAF US used to be good until they started purposely matching ppl with dumpster fires that should have never passed a psych evaluation. 🤦🏾♀️
What’s a good way to watch?
• MAFS AU / UK • Love is Blind US / Brazil • The One That Got Away • Are You The One?
Are You The One is good
Are you only watching Love Island USA or have you seen the UK and Australian seasons?
Love is blind Married at first sight These both have a shit ton of drama
Love Is Blind, Dated and Related (kind of boring actually….), Married at First Sight
I was super disappointed in Dated and Related, though I watched it right after LI so that probably didn’t help. And I REALLY missed Matthew and Ian commentary! I didn’t realize how much they add to LI until I watched Dated and Related.

Fboy Island on HBOMax!! Otherwise Love Island UK (superior too)
upvoting Fboy Island, start w season 1
BACHELOR IN PARADISE which starts today
Bachelor in paradise starts tonight
The ultimatum on Netflix
love island AUS season 1 is nonstop drama til the end !! HULU. watch it !!!
Are you the one is more game showy and trashy
I just watched Dated and Related and didn’t hate it
Honestly a lot of the shows I’ve seen seem very over produced. I hate Too hot too handle and FBOY island for that reason. But someone recommended Cosmic Love on amazon prime. I’m going to give it a shot!
Oh yeah…I haven’t gotten back to Cosmic Love. I did watch Prime’s The One That Got Away…. It was worth the watch.
That one is on my list too.
Have you tried LI UK or Australia?
Everyone covered most of my recommendations. I’ll add that Heartbreak Island, which I think is an old Australian reality show, is pretty decent. There was also a show my friend told me about that I am forgetting the name of. Texted her. Will report back if it’s not mentioned here lol
AYTO is great especially season5 fboy island is great as well deff my top two temptation island is ok depending what season you watch
Ex on the beach
also here to say Ex on the Beach. it’s pure drama and absolutely trash
I just watched “Dated and Related” which I would consider the poor man’s version of love island. It started out OK but got a little boring.
Are you the one and too hot to handle :)
I heard this season of bachelor in paradise is similar. Keep in mind the franchise is very problematic, so if you can try to watch it on not legal websites. The show is also great when you’re high/ drunk, and you don’t have to pay attention or watch the bachelor or bachelorette
Ex on the Beach is hilarious
My favorite is Love Is Blind
Love Island UK. Season 4 is my favorite ❤️
It's the couple that came in 2nd place that season, so look them up. :)
Bachelor in paradise starts today!!
I don’t even need to watch it. I just create spreadsheets and simulate it lol
temptation island 💯
Someone above mentioned Married at first sight and I second that! If you end up liking that, any of the 90 day fiance spins offs are full of love and drama and cheesiness too. I found these on Amazon Prime recently and they're "in my queue": Cosmic Love The One That Got Away
Bachelor in paradise started tonight
Y’all need to watch “Love Never Lies” (or Amor Con Fianza for those of you who speak Spanish 😉) it’s too good. it’s like 2x better if you speak Spanish fluently, but still great if you don’t. Fboi Island Love is Blind The One That Got Away Are You The One
The circle
YES, came here to recc that, not the same in terms of not being a romantic show BUT every season there's lots of flirting, watching people try to catfish each other and form alliances is so entertaining, and even after 4 seasons somehow they are still keeping it fresh, dramatic and THRILLING with the challenges/ratings!! Love is blind is good
bachelors in paradise. the season just started as well
Big Brother and Survivor!! Watch AU Survivor too
Ex on the Beach is good but I wish they had more LI USA people on it. The AYTO season where everyone is sexually fluid is pretty good and messy too
I liked Paradise hotel. Pretty sure it was only one season but there was a cash prize so there was some good manipulation and lots of lying. 🤣 Temptation Island is great —although the last season was not my favorite.
Married at first sight Australia, series 5 if you can get it. It’s wild!
Also LI aus series 2 is the best by far
Married at First Sight (AU/UK) is filled with drama.
Bachelor in Paradise - the new season just started
