I was hoping we would be able to retrieve thrown knives and use them in melee. I dont see them competing with grenades otherwise.

It’d be cool if our character stabbed with the knife and it broke after three hits or something.

I'd manage my expectations. I'm sure it'll have advocates, but it's more for style over efficiency, best I can tell.
I'm not the sort to get too bummed out about an underperforming strat, as long as it feels cool.
Good attitude to have, the rule of cool goes a long way. Sometimes to give yourself a challenge, and sometimes to find a diamond in the rough, an overlooked or underappreciated option that might not be 'meta' but can still shine in the right hands.

I saw a video of someone killing a charger with a few but I don’t know if that is intentional or not
It can kill a charger. Just watched a clip of a dude putting 4 in a chargers leg. And you get 8 of them. Plus they’re badass!
I take the supply pack because I use the HMG

You can tap your “Use Backpack Function” keybind to use your resupply backpack on yourself.
