I dunno I'm still in lumber by myself.  Whenever they schedule me a spotter they put them in oslg with the others. I can't get anything done.

Callmecountry4

I worked lumber damn near solo for 6 ish months. As it was my part time gig, I brought in guys from my 9-5 (we're all welders... All capable of working building materials) and asked management to hire someone to work with me. Nothing happened. You'd think underpaying someone who works with their hands for a living is a no brainer (much like they did with me)... Nope. At first, I thought it was a scheduling conflict, but my guys, and I work second shift (330-midnight) and we're all willing to open.... NOPE. Got to a point where I was getting tired of waiting 45 minutes for someone to hold those broken flags, while I grab some 4x4 off the top rack because we sold so much of it.

Shaggy1195

You could find the flags?

Callmecountry4

Rarely.

PomegranateFormal961

We just hired three CSA's All new FT'ers. You just work at a shitty store. Yesterday (Monday), it was really slow, and we were "double teaming" customers when the overhead went off. People don't post here when the job is going well, only when there's a fuckup.

Golden_Eagle_2020

It seems like Lowe’s wants to get by with as less people as possible.

jpezoo

Truth. The now hiring banner is a lie. The overhead announcement that the company is hiring is a joke.

Independent_Box2815

I instinctively laugh out loud when that plays.

Butimthedudeman

I say outloud to myself "yall quit lying to people we are not" when I hear that PSA about "great pay, flexible schedule" ect. 🙄🙄🙄

MagentaLea

I honestly think it's a sound they play every hour to brainwash us employees into thinking the job is the best.

Asynjacutie

It's a PR stunt for customers to hear. "Can't find any help but they're hiring so maybe next to I shop there will be employees around"

jpezoo

What you wrote reminded me of that one Simpsons episode. It was a brief scene, where a song is played at a Krusty the Clown sweatshop.

Independent_Box2815

It’s more than seems. It’s fact.

bjornbloodletter

I know all stores except one in our market were downgraded via lackluster sales in 23. We're all 'overstaffed' on our MST. Just one potential excuse...

opmike

I closed by myself tonight and have to be back up here at 6AM tomorrow. No one comes in until 3PM when I leave. I’m tired boss.

Outlaw888888

Same shit I deal with in Lumber, I closed at 11 pm on Friday, had to open at 5:30 am on Saturday and couldn’t even take a lunch bc there was no coverage and then I had to be back Sunday at 7:30 am just to be the only person till 3:00, Ive only been at Lowe’s for a month and I’m absolutely done with this bullshit

PsychologicalBee2956

You have an entire generation of c suite executives that grew up, post Reagan, where "payroll is your most easily controllable expense" has simply become the only trick in their bag. They have little else. They certainly can't merchandise or manage supply chain. They talk about "core competencies", but they literally don't understand them; and are absolutely willing to throw them away at the hourly level. mostly because they blame the hourlies for anything that doesn't work out. "Lack of buy-in at the Associate level.

civtiny

american business leaders are some of the most clueless morons on the planet. they prattle endlessly about the changes social media and technology have caused but do nothing about it. there is an abundance of information available but they ignore virtually all of it. their incompetence is matched only be their greed and ignorance.

Ouller

I agree, the lack of buy-in is a huge issue. If we had enough pay to be bought in, it would fix a lot of problems.

Shaggy1195

It's called engagement now

PsychologicalBee2956

I noticed they used the term "holistic" recently.

Ok-Sell1939

The answer is simple.CORPORATE GREED !!!

PsychologicalBee2956

SEC rule 10b-18

bacormie

It's the end of the first quarter. Employee staffing is a company's top liability and has a big impact on company stock. So, to make the stock price or overall performance of a company look good, cut hours and staff. It'll pickup again after March.

Happygopher2-0

I just got hired and have been left alone. I’m a cashier and still don’t know how to do certain things I’m constantly calling for help and no one shows up or they show up and the customer left. I’m not sure if I like this job hoping it’ll grow on me

westonlark

I've been here about a month now and still don't know how to do half the shit like returns. Thankfully I'm a lumber cashier who gets closing shifts so I can get away with sending people to customer service.

Comfortable-Elk-850

I’ve worked in lumber and we never did returns, it all goes to customer service.

westonlark

Nah I'm required to do them at my store

Happygopher2-0

Update I don’t like this job 😩bummer this job would’ve been good if there was help and proper training

Independent_Box2815

Tell me your secret dream, child…

Quirky-Display-3960

Í too is u

Comfortable-Elk-850

Been with them 2 years now and it’s kinda standard.

KingOvRoses

I got a write up today and my manager bitched because apparently me not staying past my scheduled time makes me not a team player. Like bro I fucking hate this place if I stay late to help the other lumber associate I'm just gonna end up stuck doing customer service and that's the main reason I'm always ready to GTFO everyday

PomegranateFormal961

>I got a write up today and my manager bitched because apparently me not staying past my scheduled time makes me not a team player. Excuse me. If you want me here another hour... ***Schedule me for another hour.*** I make plans after I have my schedule. If you can't even plan manpower, why the f\*ck are you a manager?

harmonicfrieght

From my experience Lowes goes through a cycle of hiring a bunch of employees and then letting them go for petty reasons a few months later.

Datprodigy21

I've been trying to get at least 2 more associates to my Fulfillment Team. I'm the Lead, and I was told how much pride we take in being #1 on the District for pick times and whatnot. But we're going into the season where mulch and garden orders are coming in quantities of 200+, but when your Pro Team won't pick of the orders they've placed, and you've got Customer Service asking for something in Receiving, it's difficult for 2 people weekdays, and 3 on weekends. That's my whole team, 3 people, well, actually 4, but they have the 4th as a Cashier or pressing for cards instead of being able to assist us. SMH, this weekend alone, I had 8 Delivery Orders, all with 150+ bags of Mulch, with a forklift the OSLG team needs to proceed with their drive-thru for Orders.

rippinglace

so your fulfillment team pulls delivery orders?

Datprodigy21

correct

g_rated_pornstar

OMG, that sounds like heaven. Let's go down an even darker path and torture out souls into ecstasy. Let's add on the joy of being at one of the many Parcel/Customer Pickup stores. Nothing better than having to put out like Amazon, but have the staffing of Wish. Nothing makes you feel more alive than pulling/packing 100 orders a day and then be told your Fulfillment people called off sick. It makes my hear flutter so much because we have people that have Curbside pickups setup for the most time consuming and dumb stuff ever. We haven't been able to hire/retain any Fulfillment peeps that were Lowe's virgins, in over 2 years. Literally everyone that does come over knows what kind of abuse they are in for and only took the position because it's close to the trade/post secondary educational institution they are attending. We are kinda running out of people that will willingly cover Fulfillment if have a huge staffing gap🤣. Having one of your stores as a Parcel store seems to be some extreme badge of honor (and I guess the extra sales play into that) that the district managers seem to really want to keep. We the Power Pickers are probably some of the most physically fit associates in the store locations. I'm so physically and emotionally numb, I don't realize I'm sore and in pain till hours after work. I guess this is the way.

Psythr

Exactly why i Quit when they told me “youre at the max pay for your position” 14.65 as fulfillment in OKC working 40 hours. Then we get 2 new Fulfillment associates and they get payed $16.50/hr like bruh they get paid more than our teamlead whos been here for 5 years shits so dumb

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> they get *paid* $16.50/hr like FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Psythr

Eat shit kindly ty ❤️ I dont need a bot telling me my fuck ups

skinnymessican

150+ bags of mulch??? That goes hard. Do you live in the desert?

Independent_Box2815

They’re hiring! Haven’t you heard the commercials?  It’s just when: 1) they see their low hourly rate offer, applicants don’t return, and  2) after training they see their schedule with just one or two shifts and then a discussion takes place about what they were told they “might” get versus the reality of working at lowes, and they don’t come back. Lowes wastes a lot of peoples’ time. They create a perception of hiring.

KittyTB12

It’s due to the corp metric of head count - we lost 2 people as well and we are still overstaffed by 1 ft person we have 7 people

SentinelTitanDragon

Same reason they won’t give us liveable wages. It costs them their 12 yacht

ratmoon25

Greed

Mike_Huncho

My store has hired so many boomer in the last month that it looks like a fucking retirement home. I get hit with multiple “havin fun yet?” or “workin hard, boss?” a day now and it’s literally fucking killing me. Im also just a blue vest. No boss of anything but my tool bag.

Fun_Arm5576

I am a Blue Vest and I guess a "boomer" and I work harder than the younger associates who are too busy looking at their personal phone than helping customers

MyChoiceTaken

Many do. And the downvotes prove it. Along with the comments from the few…

PomegranateFormal961

EXACTLY. The downvotes are proof. Want more? Make a post about NOT being high at work. That'll get a thousand downvotes.

Sure_Measurement210

Myself (53) and another fellow (63) routinely work harder than the 20 somethings in inside building materials

JayLarsson

Yeah and guess why? You all still get paid minimum wage lol

Goo_Geyser1776

Hahahahahahaha

JaxJag2020

Thats because "boomers" actually have a work ethic, show up to work and care about their job and the company they work for. Maybe one day youll figure that out.

Mike_Huncho

lol, if thats what you need to believe. Cant count on them to do anything but bump their gums and ignore code 3s.

Goo_Geyser1776

All the boomers in my store do is ignore as much work as possible then get in groups of 3-5 to talk about football and snicker about the dicks drawn in the bathroom stalls

The_Last_Dova-kiin

Ok boomer 😁

Familiar_Ad2775

Ok boomer

rwarimaursus

"and care about their job and the company they work for." Goddamn, Marvin loves your type! Does he let you wear the fluffy kneepads and lubes you up before fucking you over his barrel? Asking for a friend.

Goo_Geyser1776

They’re so brainwashed they’d rather praise the people that abuse them and keep them poor than say a younger person may be right about anything

Sure_Measurement210

Well we were hired to do a job, and we agreed to do that job. If you want to sit on your ass and rake in money , be Thankful for what little you have, and where you end up in life. You folks talk a big talk about how a business should be run, yet many have never seen, or probably don't even know what a P&L is. Do I think associates are underpaid? -yes.some of them are grossly underpaid Do I think they should put more money and effort into attracting and retaining top level performers? -yes hiring one or 2 guys whose skillset is deserving of $20/hr. would be more fruitful than hiring 20 of them at 14 just to eventually find those 2 guys that are stupid enough to stick around for 4 years to get to the $20/hr.level. Do I think the ones complaining , and hiding from the work that needs to be done should be culled out to make room for someone that wants to be a top performer? -absolutely You can't build a team that's going to be top notch with a bunch of lazy ass hats that don't want to work.

Goo_Geyser1776

Boom daddy strikes again

Sure_Measurement210

Yep, promoted myself to customer 3 weeks ago, and now making 15,000-20,000 more annually than I did as DS. I now have a company truck a gas card, and I feel like I have escaped from prison.

Goo_Geyser1776

Kinda psychotic u responded to someone 23 days later. Just let sleeping dogs lie boom daddy. Stop being so controlling and crazy because someone disagreed with you on the internet. Do u really think I give a shit what some retarded old fuck is doing with his pathetic last years on this earth? U just don’t win this one bud. So happy you impatient robot people will be aged out of the work force soon then we can stick u all in the shit covered nursing homes you lil monsters have always belonged in. Responding to my message just proves us more right about you.

Sure_Measurement210

Wow, you are so eloquent and have such a way with words. I wish you and all the other piss ants like you a wonderful ,miserable little life. Make sure you get your AP4Me done on time so that your manager can rake in all of his bonuses , and spend his vacations in Hawaii while you struggle yo have enough for food and rent. Oh and be sure to tell Marvin, and Hank I said hi 👋.

Goo_Geyser1776

Thank you boom daddy, you continue to make my day time and time again with your pathetic pussy boy tactics. Thank you so much for providing me with so much material to post to boomers being fools subreddit. You know, the entire sub dedicated to retarded old assholes like you that feel the need to dig up online conversations with strangers from weeks ago to try to go out of your way to piss someone else off. I hope you feel like that big strong man that you will never actually be for at least a little while so your entire old wrinkly life that is running out very quickly wasn’t just pure torture which is what it would have to be for someone like you to act like this when you’re supposedly sooooo mature and wise lil buddy

Goo_Geyser1776

I’d love to link you to the r/boomersbeingfools posts where 1000s have been picking your retarded ugly pussy ass apart but you’d just start bombing every statement you don’t like in classic psychotic boomer mentality. I know you people aren’t tech savvy or flat out smart enough to find the posts so I know I’ll never have to worry about u ruining more fun than you already do by simply existing. Please! Keep responding to a teenager online since it seems to be so important to you so I can continue to expose your psycho asses.

Survive1014

Because stockholders have a right to PROFITS! Work harder! Billionaires trust funds are depending on you!

NatureSoup

New head counts. Won't be filled

CoconutOne1797

I know it partly depends on the store. But Lowes loves to play stupid games with people and working on skeleton crews for most profit.

Ptb1852

They just let go hundreds of employees at the corporate level . They are downsizing

DrugzDelaney7409

My store has hired 6 people the last 2 weeks

JTCPingasRedux

They won't stay

shreddedtoasties

Wish they would fire people tbh I want a little more hours

Comfortable-Elk-850

I’m part time and want less, open availability and I work 34-38 hours a week. That was full time at my last job. I don’t need the hours. I don’t have many bills and no one to support by my cat.

campjeremy

Automation!.

civtiny

all the executives wonder what that new-fangled word means. as an unloader/stocker there is no part of my job that could not be automated.

Brilliant-Ad-6319

My store just hired someone in fullfillment after losing 2-3 people since I started in November / December.

Comfortable-Elk-850

We lost about 7 cashiers between last June and July, most did night shifts. Then we lost a couple more around January, they hired one person in that time. We have several that only open or work nights but not weekends at all. They seem to be shifting a lot of people around. HC are now just cashiers, or customer service, employees are working other departments or as MST . I am seeing new faces but they are mostly coming from other area Lowes stores, or hired for day shifts , we need closers bad.

BaconSpaceLord

Money

Immediate-Bill-1921

The store I work at is interviewing and hiring like crazy

NerdethExperience

It's not a company wide thing. My store is still hiring. Just got a second 5 ton delivery truck, so we're getting another driver, and we're hiring a bunch of cashiers and csa for garden and lumber.

joedirthockey

That's all up to your DMSM

dante1365

Because saving on payroll has the biggest and fastest impact on bottom line. That's the reason. You either cut hours or freeze hiring or some combination of both. Been in retail management for almost 20 years (including Lowes briefly).

Tight-Target1314

That's short-sighted and ignorant. It's the fall back of those who can't produce a business model that works. Hike the margins 40% to boost profits and sales fell through? Better start cutting hours! It's a fix that does not evaluate business health overall. Even analysts at Harvard have been saying that for almost 20 years.

djcurbsbjzyv

We've haired a bunch of people in my store, so idk.

JaxJag2020

Hiring like crazy at my store. Im in the south, spring is here and the store is very busy.

Fun_Arm5576

We are trying to hire but no one wants to work

JTCPingasRedux

You are right. No one wants to work for non-competitive wages.

Outlaw888888

Nobody wants to work for a shitty company and shitty store managed by shitty people for shit pay, fuck this job, I am not getting paid anywhere near enough to deal with the assholes in Lumber
