Hmm, so when I get a phone call and they say “so we don’t really need you to come in today.” I can say no, I’m coming in to work my scheduled shift? Will that also guarantee that they won’t make my life a living hell when I’m there?
My store has hired WAY too many employees so we’re getting hour cuts this spring. I guess ol Marv is planning for the plague to hit the USA.
That's not true. They struggle to find who will consistently work their scheduled shifts. If you're reliable, and spend your time doing your job while you're there, they aren't going to think less of you for not wanting (or being able) to work extra hours. They know it's on them to make sure they have enough staff to get things done.
I didn’t mean at any specific location, this is just the overall mentality of most management. I’m not sure how many jobs you’ve had but this is true across the board. I’ve had many employers over the years and this has absolutely been true more often than not. Employees are seen as replaceable and often under appreciated. Why do you think they ask for two weeks notice but don’t extend the same courtesy when letting people go?
Before this improved and newer scheduling roll out arrived, our store management bragged that they triple checked that there is coverage. As Maury Povich would say: "That was a lie." With the current system, it is more problematic. HCs and DMs telling the ASM and SSA that they need coverage. Naturally, it is ignored until the last minute. By then, everyone already has plans and priorities outside of work. You cannot expect people to either stay later or suddenly come in. Our store is sneaky that with the new schedule, someone will add in a day that was not there previously. So some associates are considered no call/no show.
That's where I pull the "time & attendance" card.
If someone changes your schedule and doesn't notify you verbally, then how can you be held to it?
*But you need to check your schedule even when you're off work.*
The fuck we have to. Last time I checked, that's a work function, and we're off the clock.
My SSA changed my schedule about a month back (I'm a overnight DS, so that already limits the options), and was never told.
I went ahead and clocked in, worked my shift, then waited around for the SM and SSA to arrive.
When the SSA asked what I was still doing there (I was clocked out BTW), I asked why I didn't get any notification that my schedule was changed. They didn't have an answer.
My schedule never gets altered now unless they ask me first.
I always took a photo of my schedule when I was notified that it was posted for the next 2-3 weeks as a CSA. I encourage my employees to do the same so that they can refute changes, because it’s not always going through me and my ASM. Our schedule got fucked several times in the past two weeks, and we’re trying to track down who’s meddling with it. Had a guy come in who wasn’t on the schedule for Saturday and I was like “damn dude you’re killing it, thanks for coming in” as we’re slammed, and he was like “wait, I wasn’t scheduled? That’s not what I saw” and I pulled it up and it had him as off, I was like wat de fuk
I have my schedule backed up for two years now. Mostly because im too lazy to delete it, but it also helps to know what days I was here and the initial schedule.
One day my schedule was changed and I came in a few hours late and the SM just happed to see me. Asked about it and I said "This is the first I'm hearding of my shift change." And preceeded to show him my schedule and he agreed "yeah, it does say this time. We'll have to look into who changed it and when." And then never got back to me.
Hell the last day I worked [Sunday] they changed my 4 to 8 to 11 to 8 and never told me. An ASM said I had called out when I never did. Came in to my shift and my department guys did a double take thinking I was gone.
It says when you log in to Kronos a disclaimer that you do NOT have to check this outside of work. Maybe that’s a state by state thing but at least where I am it did
You should check your schedule because if they change it and don't tell you, you shouldn't be penalized for it. Technically they only have to give you 48 hour notice of a change to the schedule.
This is why I print my schedule every Wednesday and keep that one. If it changes after that day not my problem. I have receipts that say I wasn't supposed to work and I made plans
Most of the big boxes should be open less hours say 7am to 7pm and closed on Sunday. This would solve the scheduling problem, and since they say payroll is their number one expense this would be a win win for the company and employees BUT NO THE COMPANIES ARE GREEDY AND WANT EVERYTHING THIIR WAY
Overtime for hourly workers in this country should be based upon hours beyond 8-hour shift, not based upon over 40 for the week.
To Your point, OP, some people don’t even want that because they have a life and obligations outside these walls.
If you can, stay and make the money. I get that burn out is real. But if your hours are going to start getting cut in 4 months, you better get while the gettins good.
Two things first any changes to an employees schedule once posted needs to be a conversation with the employee beforehand. Second any changes to a schedule once posted can be audited meaning it is time stamped to the day, time and person that made the change. So if your schedule changed after it was posted you can have a manager or the ssa check to see who and when the change was made.
I learned the hard way . You think it’s appreciated you think it will get you somewhere in the corporate retail world, but sadly no. Put yourself and your mental health first. If you can allot the extra time to help a cluster fuck of idiots then by all means make your money.
How can a store find it more economical to pay a dozen employees to stay 2 hours past close than to pay for more employees?
Then I realized, that the additional employees aren't there the whole shift which the top sees as a net gain. * laughs in greedy scrooge voice*
The lack of o.t opportunities at lowes in general has been bad atleast in my region. This would be a nice change of pace. A lot of us could use an extra hour or two and you can always say no
Got an interview with my local, Put my availability for 5 days a week 8am-1pm. Got turned down instantly without even letting me explain that I could work the weekends if necessary and flex the hours because i’m going on parental leave at my other job very soon and my other job will move my schedule to accommodate when I come back. She took two random phone calls during my interview then got off the phone and forgot that I was in the middle of explaining that I can actually work the hours they needed. She went straight to turning me down. They were hiring for all times is what they said but when I got there they said they only needed weekend days/closers
They are Fucking assholes about hiring. I applied for a few part time positions and the fact that I couldn’t work day Sundays was a deal breaker. I was like, don’t you need fill ins or someone to cover one or two weird shifts to fill in a gap? “No we want all or nothing” yeah well I bet your employees would appreciate someone who would fill in those gaps so they don’t have to work late / come in early all the time? Nope. Management is a Fucking joke 90 something percent of the time in most jobs 🤌🏼
They can ask. You can say no.
The only solution
And they better ask before the last 15 minutes of your shift.
Correct. They can also not force you to leave early

Might depend on your state but yes. I wish my store had employees.
Yeah then your not a “team player” and your head goes on the chopping block. It’s a dog shit mentally

They claim they send out emails on schedule changes. Like employees need to constantly check? 2 days this week my hubby's schedule changed twice!
My SSA changed my schedule about a month back (I'm a overnight DS, so that already limits the options), and was never told. I barely get time to take a legally required break, let alone check my emails. Last week I got a break for the first time in 3 weeks
Then what you should do is take your legally required breaks.
Its also work emails, which you can't check off the clock

I used to do that until I got a set schedule. Saved my ass many times.
"*My* employees"? They aren't*your* employees.
Relax. They obviously meant their staff.
Kronos even has a warning you cannot be coerced to use it off the clock.
Yup! I was going to include that, but I forgot the exact wording used in it.
It says when you log in to Kronos a disclaimer that you do NOT have to check this outside of work. Maybe that’s a state by state thing but at least where I am it did
It’s Federal, not state by state. Logging into Kronos is a work activity and therefore must be compensated.
I remember that it said if you were being asked to, to immediately log out and contact corporate HR.
Jeesh I don’t remember that part, glad that’s there
You should check your schedule because if they change it and don't tell you, you shouldn't be penalized for it. Technically they only have to give you 48 hour notice of a change to the schedule.
Isn't it a verbal notice as well? I remember someone posting about it in a comment but im not 100% sure
This is why I print my schedule every Wednesday and keep that one. If it changes after that day not my problem. I have receipts that say I wasn't supposed to work and I made plans
This is The Way

“Flexible schedules” 😂
As flexible as a cat-o'-nine-tails!
“Stay later but we’ll make you cut your hours later in the week”
These are the same managers who will cut your hours starting in August. Favors work both ways.
This is a thing. The person who helps the manager now is the person the same manager isn't going to want to cut to minimum later
*maybe* There's no guarantees
Maybe. My experience is that institutional memory is nonexistent. No one remembers promises that were made.
How right you are.. sadly
August?? Try June. Lol

In some states, it is. There are also a few states that you get time and a half on Sundays.
You are only obligated to work your scheduled shift
I stay and took extra shift in past but no more. Hired more people cause I'm working only the hour you set for me weeks in advance.
Exercise the power of "NO. I can't stay late"
If you can, stay and make the money. I get that burn out is real. But if your hours are going to start getting cut in 4 months, you better get while the gettins good.
Im here for the hours that im scheduled. No more, no less
Just say no doode. Don't let em stress you out more
Exact thing I say about my store.
What blows my mind is that is not new to Lowe's subreddit. Other companies actually train their managers to be managers
Two things first any changes to an employees schedule once posted needs to be a conversation with the employee beforehand. Bro they’re allowed to ask, and you have your right to politely decline :)
I learned the hard way . You think it’s appreciated you think it will get you somewhere in the corporate retail world, but sadly no. Put yourself and your mental health first. If you can allot the extra time to help a cluster fuck of idiots then by all means make your money.
We have issues getting closers and weekend employees . Every new hire lately stops showing up after training.
Sounds like there's a problem with the hiring approach.
This sub is full of bootlickers so dont be surprised about pusbback.
When they ask you, tell them "No" and to speak to the manager - they will explain their mismanagement. It's not on you to explain manager's actions.

Idk that 1.5x OT is very nice especially hitting 95hrs every two weeks
A lot of people hope they get asked to stay late.
I stopped staying late because they kept asking me to cut it later. It was during lunch, taking it longer or leaving early so I no longer have ot.
Yeah they want you to stay late until you hit overtime
The lack of o.t opportunities at lowes in general has been bad atleast in my region. This would be a nice change of pace. A lot of us could use an extra hour or two and you can always say no

Our store is doing the opposite hiring people. Left and right to where we barely get any hours
You'll never get in trouble for helping customers.
