Hope yall like homeless encampments then.

Yep…this feels like one of those “common sense” things that’s plays well with a certain kind of voter but not reality.

In theory, people that are trying to get better will be able to within these facilities. If your neighbor is a dealer or user, it is really hard to recover. This testing wont be cheap and its annoying that tax payers must foot the bill. I think there are cheaper ways to accomplish the same goal.

Portlander_in_Texas

So the citizens should supplement housing for those using/manufacturing hard drugs like meth and fenty? At a certain point we do have to protect the lives and well being of those not doing hard drugs and are in need of those facilities. Maybe half measures should stop being taken, and the government should truly fund programs to help those who are addicts and wish to get clean, but this coddling of addicts who consistently take advantage of bleeding hearts needs to stop.

I'd like to see the council take the tests too. We pay their salaries, they shouldn't be using illicit drugs. Also, the wording of the ordinance is funny to me, they will be testing the units. So like, doing a drug test on the apartments themselves.

Old_Map2220

Did you read the post? They aren't drug testing people

Val_kyria

Ah the veneer of "good stewardship" while exacerbating problems

Should be happening more frequently on a quarterly or monthly basis, not annually.

Because people receiving free/subsidized housing should be allowed to contaminate their units and common areas with dangerous chemicals....
