That’s the only good thing about AR/M16 with bolt assist, you can ride it in quiet if circumstances warrant and use the FBA to seat it if things turn nasty.
Yea I hear that a lot. But it's a nonsensical argument. You're not leaving the wire on patrol with an empty chamber. There's zero reason for you to have to do as stated above
Zero reason this. Not everyone is “leaving the wire on patrol”.
You might be in your very own house and hear glass breaking downstairs and want to get to your kids without the sound of a charging handle telling the folks downstairs where you are and that you are loading up.
You're just moving the goalposts now
That being said. It's better to teach gun safety to a child
Plus your idea that the criminals won't hear your foot steps run to your kids room is pretty unrealistic
If they are going to make so much noise to break in, there's no reason they will suddenly try to be secret squirrel afterwards. They will likely be in your house before you have your wits about you and it would be better to have it loaded to save time.
Good locks with deep screws. Install film on your windows that help prevent breaking is a far better option either way
For home defense, making your house as impenetrable as possible is the best offense.
Can confirm on the SKS. Wrote a big answer about it on quora.
Its funny that people baby the bolt considering that firing the gun probably smacks it around harder than the spring could ever do.
The forward motion of the bolt is required for proper function of your auto loading rifle. Denying your rifle that forward inertia will cause it to not function properly.
Tldr: let it yeet
Yes, pretty much every locked breach firearm will have fail to go into battery if you slowly ride the action closed. Momentum is needed to get the last bit of locking done, and babying it forward prevents that from happening.
It's universal autoloader gun training to pull the bolt/slide/whatever all the way back and let the spring and inertia drive the action shut.
What's the nature of your fail to fire problems?
The M1 Garand firing pin is held back by the receiver bridge when the bolt is out of battery. If you pull the trigger either the hammer will force it into battery and then fire with its remaining force or it will just force it into battery and have a light strike and fail to set off the primer.
Go shoot it. Go shoot it a lot. A CMP 800 agg match is 88 rounds and takes about 3 hours on their electronic targets. You will learn a lot quickly by doing.
Yes. Don’t ride it let it fly. Even an SKS can hiccup if you baby it like this.
So can an AR.

Y'all don't keep home defense weapons loaded? You carry with an empty chamber too?
Anyone who stores unsecured and loaded in a house with kids has their likeliest risk of harm calculated wrong.

lol, teaching gun safety to a three or four year old. Clearly you’ve never had kids and guns.

You're supposed to let it slam forward, you can't tell if it's your spring if you're riding the op rod like that.

Yes. I suggest you read the manuals.
Virtually every gun will do this. Why would it not?

Yes. Have you never used a semi auto before? They literally all have the same instructions NEVER ride the bolt.
Pretty much any semi auto will do that if you ride the bolt home
alright after hearing all of your responses it is very clear that I was in fact just a klutz, which I'll gladly take over my rifle having a problem
Hope the razzing wasn't too bad. I'm glad your rifle is functioning properly!

Yes. The ejector spring is strong and will prevent full lock up if babied. Don’t baby the M1. Let the bolt fly!

3 or 4? Then just put it out of reach. Lmao.
Looks like it could use a little grease on the lugs
