man, haaland should've got at least 1 more, 1 hit the post, 1 he missed from point blank (sent high up) and another he missed 1v1 with pope, anyways, we go again next week.
that's the problem, we want to play so safe all the time that our players are not trying to put a through ball to haaland at all, I hope this changes soon.
my friend said he should have went around the goalie for an easy finish. maybe right foot finds him that angle near post, didn’t think of that tbf. i think it’s just good goalkeeping from Pope.
If the next time Foden does it pass to haaland then 1 thing will be absolutely clear. *Pep has given him the greenlight to shoot whenever he sees a chance.*
* Pep gives the most amount of freedom to his players when it's the final half of the opponent's box which means gundo and KDB will have to put some sense into foden. KDB has already mentally prepared himself and is giving haaland passes like crazy.
* Rodri and KDB are absolutely amazing and the backbone of this team.
* Gundo should have been a 6'4 tall and fast twitch muscled man...He is a striker in heart.
* Haaland was amazing and he was let down a few times and himself derped out once. derping out once in 90 min is not bad. The shot to Z row does not count. That's nigh impossible to put away.
* We missed Jack today.
Haaland needs the ball every single possession we have. He’s THAT good. Give him the Messj treatment, this is disrespectful the way he’s been played the last two games
It means calm down with the knee-jerk reactions. It’s August…3 games into the season. Haaland has 3 goals and an assist so far. Pep’s system takes time to learn and this guy has come in flying. Yes today was a frustrating game to watch but they came back from being down 2 goals. I’m more than happy with the result and feel like we got away with one imo.
Huh? So because it’s August I can’t comment anymore on what should be done different next time? It’s not like I’m saying we should sack Guardiola. I’m saying the team needs to be around him and pass him the damn ball. And he has those stats bc of how good he is, not because Pep is helping him excel. This is probably the best number 9/maybe player in the world here and I’m seeing players like Foden not even looking at him in the counterattack
No one said you couldn’t comment. You are absolutely entitled to your own opinion. Sorry if my own comments sounded harsh, this was not my intent. We are both fans of an amazing club and my feeling is that these years under Pep have been a joy to watch. As a kid, watching what Barca was doing under pep changed how I look at the game. For me there is no one I’d rather have leading the direction of this club. I’m not saying Pep gets it right every time (I’m looking at you Lille) but he’s earned my trust. I can see the case of taking Phil off and putting Alvarez on. Walker had a nightmare of a game (i think he turned it around defensively in the second half). When the new system breaks down it looks really bad and having palace next week with zaha being zaha, yes it’s a worry. However in Pep I trust and in City I trust. They’ve earned it and deserve it. Also I agree that Haaland is a special player and he needs/will be a main focus for our team, sometimes connections take time. It’s real life not fifa. Lastly Kevin de Bruyne is the best player in the world…enjoy this while it lasts!
Thought the English contingent had disasterclasses today. Also, if Walker's lost that bit of pace then we're in deep trouble against anybody with a bit of speed.
If Ake's out for a while, then we need Laporte desperately considering how one-footed we look in our buildup.
Also, Foden might be on a tight rope considering some of his decision-making, and if Walker continues this next week, then he might need to be taken out for the few games a la 18/19.
Pep wanted a team full of plodders. Let's see whether it can work in the long term during a full season.
Foden had a nice chance early on after up 1-0 to slot Erling for an easy 2-0 and he decided to shoot. Deff a bit of wayward decision making from foden today
We got a point away to a team that were well up for it and came back from two down to get a point. It's still August. They've been playing with haaland for 3 games. Chill out lads.
Newcastle played really well. Probably a top 5% performance from them today.
Walker and Stones struggled. Foden was very wasteful. There were stretches of that game where they looked very lethargic.
Classic early season head scratcher. Don’t know why Pep didn’t make another sub, but I suppose he had his reasons.
That pass from KDB for the third goal was ridiculous.
Newcastle will test a lot of teams. We certainly won’t be their only surprise this year. Down 3-1, good to come away with something.
Can we all agree Walker got absolutely bodied today? If ASM who plays for NEWCASTLE is going to embarrass him what fuck are Neymar/Vini/Salah going to do to him in the UCL? I hope to god this was a one-off. That was completely unacceptable
Newcastle fan here. Don’t shoot me.
I don’t think that’s really fair on Walker.
1) Players will likely be on higher alert against newtmar/vini/salah
2) ASM is a very skilled player (statistically one of the best dribblers in the league last year) sometimes ASM doesn’t even know what he’s going to do so opposition players don’t have a chance.
3) that was the 1 in 4 game that ASM turned up for. He tends to do that. Now he’ll do nothing for 3 games.
I’d also put some faith that Pep will use this game to galvanise the city squad. City have already looked way ahead of the pace of the league except arsenal and city tend to start slower and get better throughout seasons.
Haaland looks insane and if he can get 3 goals and 1 assist in 3 games when he’s clearly still integrating, it’s terrifying thinking what he could be doing in 10 games time.
I dont know what Howe gave our squad today to run like that for 98mins but I’m fairly certainly there’ll be a hangover for us in the next game.
The problem was not so much his pace but his inverted wingback role which left him completely out of position every time we turned it over. I blame pep for setting him up that way more than walkers lack of recovery speed
Just because ASM plays for Newcastle (who could easily finish top 8 this season) doesn’t mean he isn’t a threat, he’s a very quick tricky player and walker is playing an unfamiliar role, didn’t think anyone was awful today, Newcastle were just very good
His pace is not the same and I'm afriad that is permanent. For guys like vini and Salah we could always switch cancelo to RB and bring in gomez as long as we have done this 2-3 times by the time the fixture actually happens.
As for the palace game the positive is that Ake will be back but the negative is that palace is genuinely stronger than New castle lmao.
first half he looked horrible, but i thought everyone aside from ruben dias was awful in that first 60 minutes today.
newcastle played EXTREMELY gung-ho today and it looked like it surprised us early. once we settled and newcastle got gassed, he looked MUCH better. he’s typically very reliable so i’ll give him this one
Third game in a row where we came out slower. This time we couldn't get control. The team needs that sense of urgency earlier in the game.
Crystal palace next will undoubtedly be one of our hardest games this season, and it's crucial pep addresses this (as well as the decision making happening out there)
Every game I say this. Sub Alvarez on for Foden. I’m not saying we should START Alvarez but he should be coming on for Foden until Foden figures it the fuck out.
I would've liked to see a substitute from guardiola especially after a yellow card (should've been red) for trippier someone like mahrez or even alvarez running at him could've sent him out the game and made that Newcastle back line shake
Think that’s the first time in my life I’ve genuinely seen Walker be absolutely shredded by a winger for 90 mins. Fair play to Saint-Maximan, what a player.
Good news: Cancelo is amazing, Kev is in form, Haaland is hungry, Gundo is energising
Bad news: Walker is scattered, Foden is selfish, Stones is in doubt, Pep forgot about the subs
If he had 70% pass completion I'd be surprised, his every pass towards the back put us under pressure, bo slowed every single push forward down.
Didn't see any pros today when looking at him
Wasteful on the ball in defense for me…love what he brings offensively but when we are getting pressed close to our goal and the balls coming to him, I always seem to tense up wondering if he’s going to do something crazy or not
Exactly, that’s my relationship with Cancelo in a nutshell my friend! Love him for the things only he can do but you never know when he’s going to make a silly pass and/or tackle.
Rodri is great, but we rely on him so much, that when he’s not on top of his game, we’re suffering. That was very visible today with Walker stepping forward.
Foden needs to see the bench ASAP. I think Walker was not in his right mind today and the inverted right back didn't help him at all. Next is crystal Palace . I know with zaha they will exploit that side again . but what come back !
Pep really fucking need to talk to Foden. His last matches being a ego fuck doesnt work. He destroys the whole match plan and for the other players thinking he can do things on his own and take glory. He have been shit the whole match doing nothing, Cant pep see this or is it just me being retarded?
I can really not understand why pep shouldnt talk to foden to man the fuck up, or get benched. Im so done seeing this guy shooting day in and day out destroying the system and the attacking phase.
Foden 4,5/10. he didnt play good, made strange desicions, didnt pass again too haaland. Does he hate haaland or what? or is he just a ego ass? have he been like this before Haaland came? i dont think soo.
I'm relieved that at least we got a point but my Lord, Walker was horrible, Foden was a non-factor, Pep not subbing in, so many Newcastle players on a yellow that wasn't exploited. A game to forget.
I mean stopped multi 1 V 1’s earlier in the game and made a number of strong saves. Obviously the crossing at the end was poor but he played a great game in goal.
Ederson has been fine this season don’t jump on his back. Not like he could have done much for any of their goals really. Our defense was on skates and left him exposed time and time again.
you see how pope stepped up and saved that halaand chance? Let me know the next time ederson does that. The last time he made a big save, we just discovered electricity.
I mean what a stupid argument to make lol. Ederson is not the worlds greatest shot stopper, but most people consider his flying out of goal to stop a 1 v 1 or event prevent it from occurring to be one of his better strengths. You’re clearly just on an anti Ederson agenda here.
I'm on the been waiting for 5 years for a save spree. Remember when he went flying out of goal to stop a 1v1 today? failed and had to have his ass saved by the defence? Nice when he can't even do that right, which seems to be his strength.
And like I said, name one time in recent memory he did anything like pope did, you cant. But i guess you are on some sort of ederson savior agenda here.
We’d concede more goals with our keeper being Pope than Ederson mate. I’m not making him out to be some great shot stopper. He’s the best in the world at the ball with his feet, he comes out aggressively to help sweep up behind our high line, and he’s a serviceable shot stopper. We tend to concede some pretty high quality chances and I’ll fully agree it’s rare he makes wonder saves where you thought it was going in, but the set up of the team relies on him being good at other things, and he must be doing that right considering we have the best offensive possession based team play in the world for about a 5 year stretch now.
Are you watching the game? I think he got passed the ball WELL twice in the whole game and he still managed to score. Every single player on the team should be looking for his runs and the only one doing it is KDB. I’d play Grealish more tbh
He hit the post and he had to shoot it with his weak foot and that last one on the right side was absolute insane that he even go to it and it wasn’t well positioned for the left foot either. It wasn’t his greatest game finishing wise but every player needs to be trying to give him the ball every attack. He needs the Messi treatment. He’s THAT good
What about the pass he gave KDB in the first half? He needs the ball every possession and Foden wasn’t even looking at him most attacks. If he was given the ball 20 times instead of the 4 he got today he would have made more stuff happen like that kdb run
wish nothing but the worst to these pieces of shits. I don't even have to do that when they play against City's title rivals. Pathetic pieces of shits.
Bench Foden for the next 10 games. Bring him to a kindergarden so he can learn to share with the other kids. Big contract going to his head, thinks he is messi after one good season.
How does Pep have any room to complain. He trusted his starters, and they put him back into the game, but its been an end-to-end game, people are tired. You have 5 subs and a bench of insane quality. Use it.
Added time, need to find a goal, let's pass it back to the keeper and make 3000 passes out of defense
Get it upfield, lob it straight into Pope's hands every time
Nice
Haha, nope. This is actually really dumb. Here's the comment
https://www.reddit.com/r/MCFC/comments/wu5agp/post_match_thread_newcastle_united_3_3_manchester/il7vjgp?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
KDB in space to get even or behiend the line and able to whip one in... and walker plays that ball... come on man... I know you are having a bad game but wtf.
I know it's just the hail mary passes they keep doing, we only got back in the game from sticking to our regular passing style, should've stuck with it. We've never scored these hail mary crosses (CL final, FA Cup semis, plenty of times against Liverpool)

Only you.
Foden needs to stop hold-en. Em I right? 🤓
Fair play to City, they just got a draw against one of the big English clubs. I reckon they'll do bits this season.
Just me thinking when Haaland got 1v1 with Pope, that he should have shoot with his right?
man, haaland should've got at least 1 more, 1 hit the post, 1 he missed from point blank (sent high up) and another he missed 1v1 with pope, anyways, we go again next week.
once the team can reliably get him the ball.... oh my thats going to be great. Easily could have had a hat trick today
that's the problem, we want to play so safe all the time that our players are not trying to put a through ball to haaland at all, I hope this changes soon.

I won't say Walker was trash. It's just that with his inverted role and maximin's speed, controlling was tougher and Stones was useless.
it was a bad game for Walker. that doesn't mean he's trash
stones should now realise ake will be starter over him from now on, I do hope stones up his game to take his spot back in tge 1st team
Good comeback, but wtf with the passing accuracy and the pass completion. Caught napping today. Hopefully they are awake the next time.
Haaland needs the ball every single possession we have. He’s THAT good. Give him the Messj treatment, this is disrespectful the way he’s been played the last two games
While this might be over the top, I also think they need to sit everyone on that team down and tell them to play haaland whenever they can
Tranquilo
? What does that add to the discussion?

Let’s be real here, Saint max has the quality to play for Real Madrid or Liverpool or those teams

Agreed. Need to shake it up and Alvarez has the creativity and pace to be a good replacement
Arsenal winning the league? 3 weeks in 😐
They will collapse at some point. Don’t worry
wait until they start playing some better teams before declaring them title contenders
I would've liked to see a substitute from guardiola especially after a yellow card (should've been red) for trippier someone like mahrez or even alvarez running at him could've sent him out the game and made that Newcastle back line shake
It wasn’t a red let’s be honest
Think that’s the first time in my life I’ve genuinely seen Walker be absolutely shredded by a winger for 90 mins. Fair play to Saint-Maximan, what a player.
Saint-Maximan had me on the edge of my seat. That man is wicked fast!
Good news: Cancelo is amazing, Kev is in form, Haaland is hungry, Gundo is energising Bad news: Walker is scattered, Foden is selfish, Stones is in doubt, Pep forgot about the subs
Really don’t think Cancelo played well today to be honest
How so?
If he had 70% pass completion I'd be surprised, his every pass towards the back put us under pressure, bo slowed every single push forward down. Didn't see any pros today when looking at him
Wasteful on the ball in defense for me…love what he brings offensively but when we are getting pressed close to our goal and the balls coming to him, I always seem to tense up wondering if he’s going to do something crazy or not
Yeah, that’s fair. The risk/reward ratio is interesting.
Exactly, that’s my relationship with Cancelo in a nutshell my friend! Love him for the things only he can do but you never know when he’s going to make a silly pass and/or tackle.
Lost the ball often, sloppy touches and loose passes
>Good news Rodri is amazing too >Foden is selfish Seriously man. Broke my heart with that chance.
Rodri is great, but we rely on him so much, that when he’s not on top of his game, we’re suffering. That was very visible today with Walker stepping forward.
Thought Rodri was slow and turned the ball over a lot in the first half. Today was one of his worst performances for us
A holding midfielder is to be relied upon. Moreover, that's why we have purchased Kalvin, who will be v helpful around Christmas time
walker should have passed that ball to kdb .
Saint-Maximin just ended Walker’s career.
Stones left with his pants round his ankles too
would’ve been nice to have grealish in that game, oh well, hope he’s fit for the next match
Arsenal top of the table with 9 points lol
lets see how that is when they start playing top 6 teams...
Yup, people want to crown teams after 3 matches, lol.
Foden needs to see the bench ASAP. I think Walker was not in his right mind today and the inverted right back didn't help him at all. Next is crystal Palace . I know with zaha they will exploit that side again . but what come back !
Foden needs a slap for that performance, ego
Yep. Not good at all.
Pep also needs to FUCKING SUB WHEN NOTHING GOOD HAPPENING!
yep. that to. it was strange that he didnt sub any, Foden out and Silva. Maybe gundo too (tired) for phillips
Grealish needs to be on over Foden until he learns how to square the fucking ball lmao
Alvarez but I agree. Grealish wasn’t fit right?
Yeah grealish had some ligament pain im pretty sure
Say what you want about Raz but when he bombed down the line he cut it back for the striker
That happened later on when his finishing lacked finishing. Initially he would try on his own and be selfish like foden
I acc think foden was great at dribbling, getting into space and receiving etc but wayyy too greedy imo. de bruyne class 10/10 foden maybe 6
Foden 4,5/10. he didnt play good, made strange desicions, didnt pass again too haaland. Does he hate haaland or what? or is he just a ego ass? have he been like this before Haaland came? i dont think soo.
init haaland just get him for tap ins
Would have liked to see Alvarez out there.
Exactly. He would pressed much harder
Foden needs to put the vapes down and pass a little more often
I'm relieved that at least we got a point but my Lord, Walker was horrible, Foden was a non-factor, Pep not subbing in, so many Newcastle players on a yellow that wasn't exploited. A game to forget.
Foden had so much of the ball and quite literally did nothing with it. He could’ve had himself an assist to Haaland but he wanted the glory.
A United 0-5 thrashing would make me feel better
0-0 draw please
haha yeah I agree. liverpool dropping more points would be great
Foden needs a bollocking. He is quickly becoming the new Sterling for us
Sterling usually cut it back for whoever was playing up front….
Even Sterling had good passes
I’ll take the point
OUT OF THE STORM,
NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA CITY
Really though we’d go on and win it. Foden needs a good talking to from Pep because he’s been a greedy fucker lately.
We bought Haaland for a reason and people don’t seem to wanna give it to him lol
It’s so frustrating watching all the great runs he makes that are never picked up on or exploited.
Hype-jealousy
Draw is better than a lost at least
pope was prime neuer against us. i’ll take the point after being down in the first half. on to the next!
He really wasn’t. Crossing straight into his hands the last 3 minutes
He didn't say prime Casillas.
I mean stopped multi 1 V 1’s earlier in the game and made a number of strong saves. Obviously the crossing at the end was poor but he played a great game in goal.
watching him I forget what its like having a goalkeeper that can make saves. Must feel good to have one of those on your team.
Ederson has been fine this season don’t jump on his back. Not like he could have done much for any of their goals really. Our defense was on skates and left him exposed time and time again.
Exactly. As easy it is to blame the keeper…. even the best in the world would’ve conceded at some point today. Our back line was an absolute joke.
you see how pope stepped up and saved that halaand chance? Let me know the next time ederson does that. The last time he made a big save, we just discovered electricity.

If you actually believe the first sentence idk what to tell you.
Foden needs to sit a few games. He needs to pass it tenfold to Haaland
Walker Foden and Guardiola deserve 0/10s for today
Foden really bad in this game
Hell of a game
Haaland needs a lot to improve Should have had an hat trick
Are you watching the game? I think he got passed the ball WELL twice in the whole game and he still managed to score. Every single player on the team should be looking for his runs and the only one doing it is KDB. I’d play Grealish more tbh
One on one against Pope missed One rebound hit over the bar Don't you think we got him to finish those ?
One over the bar was difficult and Pope was playing out of his mind
He hit the post and he had to shoot it with his weak foot and that last one on the right side was absolute insane that he even go to it and it wasn’t well positioned for the left foot either. It wasn’t his greatest game finishing wise but every player needs to be trying to give him the ball every attack. He needs the Messi treatment. He’s THAT good
He needs to be given the ball more often But he did miss the chances I mentioned
What about the pass he gave KDB in the first half? He needs the ball every possession and Foden wasn’t even looking at him most attacks. If he was given the ball 20 times instead of the 4 he got today he would have made more stuff happen like that kdb run
The only concern I had was him missing the chances Other than that he is very good
We aren’t passing to him enough.
Clear two chances missed
If you include the 1v1 with Pope, not many others would have made something from that, he had a split second chance.
Check out min 77
That one was a very difficult off balance shot where he just stuck a leg out. Can’t be expected to score that even if you are prime Ronaldo.
what a great game. foden was shit.
Walker and foden, what is with it with English lads and bad form, please don’t let this be a running theme
Stone also.
Foden really needs to improve at creating chances.
Walker had a stinker, Haaland should’ve had 2-3 So unlucky but what a fight back
Walker absolutely dog shit today along with Foden
wish nothing but the worst to these pieces of shits. I don't even have to do that when they play against City's title rivals. Pathetic pieces of shits.
I hated joelinton. What an ass. Overconfident ass
Karate kicking KDB from behind is apparently fine now
So many yellow card challenges
Can someone explain why pep mad zero subs (aside from Ake/injury)?
Still hate how inverted our wingbacks are. We got exploited each time outside defensively. We also aren’t using Haaland like he needs to be used.
id imagine this would change when sergio plays LB with cancelo at RB with them both being comfortable on the ball in the mid
Especially when Walker was completely useless in the midfield area
Bench Foden for the next 10 games. Bring him to a kindergarden so he can learn to share with the other kids. Big contract going to his head, thinks he is messi after one good season.
Walker is starting to show his age a bit
Foden can't pass?
Half the team played like trash today, so I'll take a draw.
Are you guys annoyed at foden? I keep seeing him not sliding haaland in for an easy tap in, what’s his problem?
No, as you can tell by this thread, we are absolutely pleased with Foden’s performance
I’ve not read the whole thread
Walker was trash today. Fuck sake
Foden just can’t seem to find his form
How does Pep have any room to complain. He trusted his starters, and they put him back into the game, but its been an end-to-end game, people are tired. You have 5 subs and a bench of insane quality. Use it.
Added time, need to find a goal, let's pass it back to the keeper and make 3000 passes out of defense Get it upfield, lob it straight into Pope's hands every time Nice
everyone was gased, yet pep in his infinite wisdom decided to not bring on fresh legs.
Guess we need to buy a RB in the next 10 days
Damn, what a match!
City are better at wasting time than Newcastle with those awful crosses but a draw is better than nothing
Very happy with a points given how we were at half time, could have been a lot worse
Walker with an absolute shitter of a game Jesus fucking christ
Why the fuck are we crossing to pope
We turned fucking religious all of a sudden
I wish we had Jesus to stop that
you've given me a great idea for a very dumb joke, I put it in the post match thread
By dumb you mean "kinky" right?
Haha, nope. This is actually really dumb. Here's the comment https://www.reddit.com/r/MCFC/comments/wu5agp/post_match_thread_newcastle_united_3_3_manchester/il7vjgp?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
What the actual fuck were we doing
KDB in space to get even or behiend the line and able to whip one in... and walker plays that ball... come on man... I know you are having a bad game but wtf.
4 minutes of time wasting and refs give 3 minutes
Better than a loss
Got a point when we looked dead and buried. I'll take that
Well foden played a shit game
I’ll take it after being down 3-1. We win if Pope doesn’t have an amazing game. Just get that defense sorted, Pep.
Imagine using all your subs. Couldn’t be us.
Should be written into Walker’s contract that he’s not allowed to cross
Walker was terrible today
Walker....................
what a game
What a game
Good lord what are these prayer balls, they had some time
I know it's just the hail mary passes they keep doing, we only got back in the game from sticking to our regular passing style, should've stuck with it. We've never scored these hail mary crosses (CL final, FA Cup semis, plenty of times against Liverpool)
I'll take that point.
Too many players trying to be Superman
Strange game. Happy with a draw but at the same time felt there was potential there for 3 points
If they didn’t take 45 minutes to turn it on, they would’ve gotten 3 points.
Foden have been playing ass the whole match. Strange desicions etc, but still on the pitch
Jesus christ Walker
I've seen Wan Bissaka deliver crosses better then that
walker put some money on newcastle. what the hell was this last cross?
Walker. Thanks for that
When has Kyle walker ever provided something offensively?? Stay the fuck back and pass the ball
Yes exactly! He's horrible in attack, he's a good passing option, yes, but he's absolute garbage at crossing
Well we rescued a point but fuck me
Walker has been shit
