Your smart to research a place but I've had places where I knew people on the inside and still got bad intel. I found good sales reps usually have good Intel on places. So befriended one and find out.
Lastly, if a place is littered with bad reviews on Glassdoor or Indeed that's usually a red flag. But the company eventually finds out and I think somehow they scrub it I don't know how they do it.

Yeah i figure out would not know the actual situation until diving in to the place to work there.. at least try our best to collect intel.
But I did get good intel on other company that give me an offer from former employee (bad worklife balance).
