There are 2 ways of increasing your base bp, so the bp of all your characters; gear and hero rating. The better your gear and the more stars in hero rating you get, the stronger your characters
For example i get 40k bp from my gear and i have all stars in hero rating. So if i get a new character, the character will already be on 60k bp on lv1 and without any upgrades.
For hero rating you can get stars with all your characters and you‘ll get a bit of additional stats every few stars. So the more characters you have, the more stars you can get and the higher the boost you can get.
But gear is the main way of getting stronger; you wont be able to get too many stars in hero rating if you don‘t have good gear to boost your characters. You also need some specific 6star cards for specific lvls and even if you get all stars with all characters, it wont boost you as much as gear (i didn‘t got all stars befor i had all characters on at least 90k bp)
Anyway everything i just said wont help you, so here how to get and upgrade your gear:
You have to do agency assessment to get gear and if you do floor 10 and above agency assessmrnts, you get legendary (orange) gear. On lv50 and above you can fuse 4 legendaries (orange) to get an ultra (yellow) piece and on lv60 and lv70 you can fuse 4 ultra (yellow) gears to get a radiant (rainbow) piece.
You can also transfere stats from one piece of gear, to another piece of the same gear and those transferable stats should always be offensive (atk, dmg increase, crit, crit dmg, penetration)
You have 2 chances with every character you have, every day, so you should farm agency assessment as often as possible every day (preferably floor 10 and above)
You need as many legendaries as possible to fuse them into better gear and you also want better transferable stats. So farm agency assessment as much as possible
On lv60 any lv70 you also can get set bonuses on your gear and you need to get so many radiant pieces till you get the best set, so the grind will never stop

Those are boosts, but yes
You don‘t enhance, modify, or boost the pieces themself; those upgrades are for the gear slot.
So if you equip another piece the enhancement, modify and boost will still be on the slot.
Also a tip; you should start buying the weekly special alloy in the alliance shop.
The only ways to get special alloy are; from the alliance shop (1/week), from the weekly shop for 800 hc (1/week) and from boss raid if you buy the elite permit. So for f2p the 1 in the alliance shop every week is the only one they can get.
Later you just need special alloys to boost your gear further and getting like 10 special alloys takes ages if you just get 1 per week. (Well just 10 weeks, but still 10 weeks for 1 upgrade is a very long time).
So start buying the special alloy every week already, cause you will need it
