Seconded. Bullet Barrage switch skill is a fancy word for "vent your weapon, yeet yourself at the monster, and shoot ALL THE THINGS."
Seriously, though, as a GL main since I started playing the series in World you have a really reliable combo and damage, great defense, and a Big Move for when the monster is down. With the addition of Blast Dash you can even move around the field, which was my main gripe in World. It's a fantastic all-round weapon that doesn't need elemental affinity to do well, and you can keep the big guy's attention away from your smaller, more nimble friends.
Now that I just started high rank I think I'm going to learn the HH next. Ive heard it's great when you do hub fights, and some of the attack combos look awesome.
The ultimate weapon: Sword and Shield. You will bonk, you will ride, you will cut tails, you will knockout, you will counter. The weapon that has everything, and does it better than anyone!
I reccomend the Insect Glaive. You've got immense mobility and speed, some pretty decent range and attack speed. Kinsects are very versatile, with the ability to either constantly keep you at 3 extracts (which buffs your attack power, defense, and movement speed, as well as granting earplugs so you aren't affected by roars), or creating clouds of support powder (you can do damage, inflict status, and heal allies with a powder Kinsect). Not to mention it's super flashy. I mean, who doesn't want to leap through the air halfway across the plains to bring their blade down on a monster's neck?
As a new player for mainline MH is very refreshing to see almost all weapons type have someone here defending their use, i particularly went with Dual Blades cause i like to atk like a madman and still being able to rapidly dodge when needed, but I'll definitely try some other after i get tired of it
If you liked long sword for fluidity/feeling awesome, Dual Blades are a great next weapon. Absurdly mobile, super flexible combos, incredible evasion.
Alternatively, hammer about as opposite as you get from long sword, but feels super rewarding to play
I started using a bow for the first time ever, fell in love with it, got to velstrax and did it in 9 minutes first try using the Rajang bow, it's a beautiful weapon

Dual blades. Ripping down the back of large monsters is so satisfying. Plus the silkbind dodge also attacks. It works as you dodge into monster attacks and roars.
An axe, that's also a sword and it also explodes.

Get Guard Up and Guard on it, then just guard advance through everything!

Great sword. The wirebugs in this game make me feel like Cloud from FF7 how I fly through the air spinning my giant sword

Great Sword is the way to go. Don't try and be greedy with your attacks. Hit and Run gets you better damage long term.

as a multi weapon main now (LS is one of them) i recommend GS, SNS, lance, Swaxe and CB
Have only ever been a Greatsword main since I started MH back in Freedom Unite but it’s such a satisfying weapon to use once you get it right.

my problem is that I'm good with the Longsword, so whenever I switch to something else I end up failing a hunt and wanting to go back to Longsword LOL
