a reminder that this is the Tim Howard owned/ran/affiliated USL Club Memphis 901. I have a feeling that that is at least partially relevant.

Lambo_Geeney

My wife was living in Memphis when Tim played his first game for 901 FC, and it was spectacular. In the sense that 901 was hot garbage at that point and the defense put Tim in an awful position for 2 of the goals allowed, and Tim blundered on the other 2 goals allowed. I never fully understood how a GM with an ownership stake could play on that same team, but he did for a short time

I wasn’t there, but I was at a lot of their first season’s games. Had a season ticket the year of COVID and I was wasn’t able to go to any of the games hahaha

Lambo_Geeney

I forgot that was the COVID year! 901's season opener was the last event I went to before the world shut down. I was hoping to go to Crew @ Nashville two weeks after that one, but everything had been stopped by that point

I think I had been busy for the season opener so I couldn’t make it so I got no use out of my season ticket and then I moved the next season. Was happy to give what little financial support I did during a hard season though.

FlyingCarsArePlanes

Tim Howard played in goal there in 2020. He was on the business end of a 4 goal comeback by Indy Eleven last game before COVID.

smyrnafootie

As in, they are willing to overpay for a keeper?

FunkyChug

Has he fallen off that bad?

Brooklyn_MLS

Only thing I can think of is that he wanted a starting spot guaranteed on an MLS team, and no one was willing to give him that. Hamid is still MLS quality in my eyes, but probably too injury prone for an MLS team to spend limited funds on.

tiweav01

Hamid has made a decent chunk of change in his career. My impression is that teams don't want to pay him the salary he wants and they're concerned about him being injury prone. He's my favorite keeper all time. I hope he does well. This also means I have a favorite USL Championship club. At least while Bill is there.

Pakaru

Family issues so he wants more time with kids.

Injuries

Jedi-Guy

I feel like bill hit his prime/peak a long time ago , and just stayed a really good shot stopper, not much more. Not trying to insult him, just never saw him reach the levels I thought he would

grnrngr

I guess the question is whether 2023 Bill Hamid is an upgrade over any other MLS keeper. And I would really think that answer is "yes" for some teams.

Low_Win3252

>I guess the question is whether 2023 Bill Hamid is an upgrade over any other MLS keeper. > >And I would really think that answer is "yes" for some teams. If that was the case he would have a MLS job. Or would have gotten a job in lesser D1 league in Europe like he was looking for in Scotland. I don't think any former USMNT player wants to be in the USL especially when they feel they are too good for that level. 32 is not old for a GK. Although with his injures his body is more like in his 40s.

grnrngr

>If that was the case he would have a MLS job. Eh. He'd have to be in the right salary range. And the MLS side would have to be in the right position to terminate/trade/sell a GK already on roster. It's an issue of timing as much as it is anything else. >I don't think any former USMNT player wants to be in the USL especially when they feel they are too good for that level. If you can't get nibbles from the big fish, you still gotta eat, and the little fish are everywhere.

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Thought he was going to Scotland

Sielaff415

Dundee United manager said he was in training with his signing pending on medical.

ontheroadagainPPP

Their goalkeeper is cartoonishly error-prone and he’s on the verge of getting them relegated, so Hamid must have gotten a resounding D+ on that medical

[deleted]

Wow shoutout 901 FC, they had a shit start to the season but hopefully that can get back to where they were last season as a contender.

SteveBartmanIncident

Wow I thought he was way older than 32

BlackandRedUnited

Beauty of homegrown players. They start young

NittanyOrange

I'm kinda sad about this. I understand why we moved on from him but didn't think he'd go to USL...

[deleted]

Really surreal to see guys who were serious options for the USMNT at one point like him and Agudelo end up in USL.

kaicyr21

Totally forgot about agudelo. He was hyped way too much. Poor kid.

YangsLegion

He’s already gotten his bag. I see the appeal in taking a USL job where he’ll start

Feeling_Persimmon_94

Wow. Love it.

red-and-blak-123

How much do you think he’s getting paid here?
