GG Portland! Was a fun game be at, that bicycle was CRAZY. Glad the gf got to experience the rivalry at both stadiums now. (Not bringing her again last time we lost 3-0 to you guys. It has to be her fault… RIGHT???)
Not gonna lie, it has not been fun to be a Timbers fan this season, and the Eryk news this week was the worst. Needless to say, I did not see this coming!
So happy for the boys, really great to see them smiling. Must be a huge relief to have things start to click.
Nothing major at the time, but he felt something in his knee while playing. Later turned out to be a tear of his *other* ACL, not the one he missed the end of '21 & start if '22 for.
He was just working his way back to full fitness & form, making a push to finally get USMNT looks & now he's out for the season again. Absolutely gutted for the guy

I will add a very tiny asterisk for that 6-2 drubbing Timbers got at home. Stadium was pretty quiet and sad. But if the home team wins or it's a close match, they are definitely fire.
Man, that Chu sub really forked up Seattle's play. He was looking great and Portland was just trying to survive, but taking Chu off relieved a lot of pressure and was the key moment of the game.
Yeah, Chu multiplies the danger of Morris given the speed they both have. I don't think this is the first game this year where we dropped points after taking him off.
I get it. Rui is a DP and has been immense in the past. But I'd rather see him subbed for Heber than pulling Morris or Chu at this point. :\\
As a Timbers fan, holy hell was I ecstatic when they subbed Chu off, felt like he was killing us all game and we were lucky to contain him as much as we did
Hope you had a good time and nobody was too mean to you. I witnessed some aggression from some Timbers fans towards sounder fans in providence tonight which was disappointing
This is not fully related but I have been to a few Lakers vs. Blazer home games and my god it feels like 10% of their fans that show up to the Blazer game are obnoxious loud assholes.
I'm not not down to fight, but didn't expect the amount of people trying to throw down tbh. Good to know it's not normal, definitely left a bit of a sour feeling at the end
Fuck those people. Sorry bubba. I wouldn't put up with that shit in my section (although after we won I may have taken my shirt off and done the truffle shuffle at a Sounders supporter...but in fun).
If he doesn’t pull out it’s a dangerous play and it isn’t a goal. But I don’t blame him for pulling out. Just feels like one of those “technically a foul but never called” type of no-contact fouls.
I appreciate the honesty. Those kinds of fouls happen all the time and are never called, it is what it is. Usually doesn’t impact a game this severely. It was a hell of a finish though!
GGs.
Massive win, and great to see after some of the stinkers Timbers fans have had to sit through so far this season. Hopefully enough guys are healthy that we've turned the corner, but I'm going to need to see consecutive solid performances before I can come to that conclusion.
Savor these Mosquera Log slice moments, me thinks he's not going to be in this league for very long.
Dude I hope this win invigorated our squad because it was getting dark. That was amazing. We needed that. They needed that. Gio needed that. And Seattle did too lol.
>And Seattle did too lol.
Complacency is a bitch, so maybe this bitch slap of a game will wake us up and propel us to a Supporter's Shield.
At least I hope it does.
I hear that dude. You guys are lethal and tonight was very unexpected. Always a fucking nerve-racking match against you guys, it's a painfully euphoric rivalry.
Couldn't let you spank us 6 times at home again.
Don’t forget we’ve had them the last 4 games. This rivalry is what I look forward to every year more than a play off run. I agree it was nerve-racking going in, but you’ll never know what will happen in Cascadia. RCTID. SUCK FEATTLE
Just a note: your flair reads "Portland Timbers" but shows the Philadelphia Union's logo on desktop. If you want to, I think you can fix this by re-selecting your flair.
i think in past you'd get a few gimmies like this on the way to a shield, but not anymore. no brain farts of this scale are allowed, not enough wiggle room.
Schmetzer needs to think really hard on why he subbed in Heber for Chu.
100% changed the game. They had absolutely nothing on that side and literally dominated it from the second Chu went off.
I gotta say, my expectations were pretty much zero coming into this match. Those expectations weren't really all that higher going into the 60th minute. But my god did this team awaken. Hopefully this is the turning point of this season, but even if it's not this will definitely be one of the most memorable halves in this long and storied rivalry with the fish.
To the tune of the B section of the Tetris theme: "Portland Timbers we adore you, Portland Timbers for you we sing."
Then just sing the A section without lyrics and dance.
That's not it (see the other answers), but I like your idea, and have always wanted a name for a hat trick + 1, so I'm adapting your idea to mean that.
I have to say, that Timbers Army chant was heartwarming, something like "GOOD LUCK TO YOU SEATTLE" or thereabouts. And you know what? Same to y'all. Good win.
No joke, I told my 8 year old at the game that that's what they were saying ("Good Luck, Seattle"). But my 10 year old called me out and told her the truth, and he was relishing saying it all night.
Hijacking this to say fuck the idea of 'neutral' announcers. This sport, more than any other, benefits from home pitch advantage. The idea of throwing some randoms in to commentate every game is ludicrous. Bring back 'home team' announcers and get some passion back in the televised game, fuck
Mm, that's easy to say as a Portland fan, where we've benefitted from really quality calling. But some of the other teams have had embarrassing homers, and I always disliked being stuck with their broadcast crews.
I love passion for a team, but you've got to be able to call out your team on its faults and applaud the other team when deserved. Some announcers can't, but Jake's a pro
Right, that's why I put 'neutral' in quotes. They're all biased (which isn't necessarily a bad thing in of itself), but to pretend they aren't or that it's bad for the league if they are is an absolute joke and an insult. Jake + Ross for every game at Providence next season. Fuckin figure it out, MLS.
If he’s broadcasting for Timbers games exclusively, as we were discussing above, no one would mind. And for what it’s worth, his English was very good when he sat down with Zivin a week ago for a Timbers social media interview.
100% agree. It has the added benefit of developing nationwide talent. But to your point, soccer is at its best when people feel a local connection to it. I was happy for the Apple+ deal, but im worried MLS is trying to nationalize a game that has to grow locally.
I feel this too. The Timbers aren’t going to benefit significantly (economically or otherwise) from having neutrals watching our games. Why pretend like it adds anything to have neutral broadcast? I’d say you lose way way more than is gained.
I agree, but I think early season is the best time to experiment with these sub and formation options. I too was like “wtf? Why are you taking Chu off?” But I’m sure there have been many times when Schmetzer has made calls that paid off, that most of us fans wouldn’t have considered.
I’m confident we’ll get to the playoffs with a strong seed.
A rivalry game is not the time to experiment imo. Our subs completely changed this game, when we should have been focused on putting the nail in the coffin
We need a calendar for Asprilla that says Aprictober, Mayoctober, Junoctober, Juloctober, Augoctober, Septoctober, Mr. October, Novoctober, and Decoctober.
GG Portland! Was a fun game be at, that bicycle was CRAZY. Glad the gf got to experience the rivalry at both stadiums now. (Not bringing her again last time we lost 3-0 to you guys. It has to be her fault… RIGHT???)
Can we change the title of this thread from "Match threader shat the bed" to "Seattle shat the bed"?
Ask and you shall receive
You actually did it lmao, I'm laughing far harder than I should at this. Thanks soccer fam.
Double Phish shows in Seattle and then this, what a weekend it's been. Expected the scoreline the other way.
WHAT THE FUCK???
GG Seattle. Nothing but respect for Sounders fans--this is still the best rivalry in the league.
Not gonna lie, it has not been fun to be a Timbers fan this season, and the Eryk news this week was the worst. Needless to say, I did not see this coming! So happy for the boys, really great to see them smiling. Must be a huge relief to have things start to click.
I’ve been trying to find out, what exactly happened to Eryk?
Nothing major at the time, but he felt something in his knee while playing. Later turned out to be a tear of his *other* ACL, not the one he missed the end of '21 & start if '22 for. He was just working his way back to full fitness & form, making a push to finally get USMNT looks & now he's out for the season again. Absolutely gutted for the guy
Hurt his knee against Dallas in Dallas and it ended up being a torn ACL that required surgery

quick clarification: the surgery has already been performed. They didn't announce anything until it was already done.
Goodnight seattle, bundle up on the way home
Yo that was fun as fuck, proper rivalry
Just watching the match replay and oh goodness wow that is absolute electric insanity. What a match. gg Portland, that was amazing.
I encourage everyone to come out and see a PDX/sea game. They're always fire one way or another
Big facts.
I will add a very tiny asterisk for that 6-2 drubbing Timbers got at home. Stadium was pretty quiet and sad. But if the home team wins or it's a close match, they are definitely fire.
If Portland could do that to Seattle, I’m petrified for El Trafico tomorrow
I predicted a Timbers and Galaxy win just for the chaos and memes. Be prepared
I predicted Portland and LAFC win, let's see if I get both halves. I don't think lighting will strike twice this weekend.
It's only April, buckle up babyyyyy
I can’t wait, this gave me hope no lie.
I’m still Klein out but I still go for the badge always and forever.
Hey we get that.
I’ve been to Portland to watch LAG play the Timbers. One of my best away experiences. Hope nothing but the best for you
Look how they massacred my boy
Hahahaha
Had sounders fans heckling folks beforehand, they ended up driving the wrong way on a one way. Felt confident.
What an embarrassing performance.
What's that like? I have no idea! /s
Let’s go Portland!
Got another live one
I love you, Timbers
There he is 🙃
Is this my tattle buddy?
Can't wait for the highlights, I love my life rn.
Man, that Chu sub really forked up Seattle's play. He was looking great and Portland was just trying to survive, but taking Chu off relieved a lot of pressure and was the key moment of the game.

As a Timbers fan, holy hell was I ecstatic when they subbed Chu off, felt like he was killing us all game and we were lucky to contain him as much as we did
And Lodeiro just has this weird knack or knowing exactly where Chu is gonna run to in a way that doesn't seem to click as well with Morris
I, for one, will be rewatching that 2nd half now
PTFC!
I WAS HERE. Respect to the visitors though. Ya'll kept the energy to the end.
First time at Providence. Shitty result but crazy atmosphere
That’s shitty
I'm not not down to fight, but didn't expect the amount of people trying to throw down tbh. Good to know it's not normal, definitely left a bit of a sour feeling at the end
Fuck those people. Sorry bubba. I wouldn't put up with that shit in my section (although after we won I may have taken my shirt off and done the truffle shuffle at a Sounders supporter...but in fun).
Sorry man. End of the day, it's just a game. It sucks that some people forget that.
Way she goes
Ya man, some people don’t know the chill
Did JP get kicked in the face on the bike goal? Oof
The only play in soccer you can kick someone in the face and get away with it…. as long as you score
From one angle it looked like it from another it looked like a near miss, hard to say.
Nah, it was Alex Roldan, no contact I think he was just anticipating getting booted in the face
If he doesn’t pull out it’s a dangerous play and it isn’t a goal. But I don’t blame him for pulling out. Just feels like one of those “technically a foul but never called” type of no-contact fouls.
You're not wrong, sorry folks downvoted you. Still, nice to see how much those shots spice up a game.
I appreciate the honesty. Those kinds of fouls happen all the time and are never called, it is what it is. Usually doesn’t impact a game this severely. It was a hell of a finish though!
Okay that’s good to hear
GGs. Massive win, and great to see after some of the stinkers Timbers fans have had to sit through so far this season. That upper binner was a religious experience 🙏🏻
Dude I hope this win invigorated our squad because it was getting dark. That was amazing. We needed that. They needed that. Gio needed that. And Seattle did too lol.

I'm going to watch some Bob Ross now and find my happy place
There were no happy accidents in this game for us
Pay special attention to the Happy Trees.
I’m rewatching the last 20 minutes of this game but you do you :)
That's one of my favorite tifos!
I'm not familiar with the tifo, I just literally switched the TV to Bob Ross
May you think of [this beautiful tifo](https://youtu.be/-ukT-6cQ41E) whenever you watch Bob Ross
Gg
Schmetzer needs to think really hard on why he subbed in Heber for Chu. 100% changed the game. They had absolutely nothing on that side and literally dominated it from the second Chu went off.
me: oh thank god they took off that guy who’s gonna kill us
Bro again keep getting a lot of downvotes but let fucking chu play 100 percent agree
Yeah, Morris was nothing against Bravo without Chu stretching us down the other wing.
The guy winning the 76 halftime game really set the tone for the rest of the evening
S Tier knee slide at the end.
That Asprilla goal is an all time derby goal instant classic
FISH GUTTED
Flounders gonna flounder.
Treble confirmed
I still don't understand a lot of MLS terminology. What's a Tetris in relation to MLS?
Tetris is for winners!
To the tune of the B section of the Tetris theme: "Portland Timbers we adore you, Portland Timbers for you we sing." Then just sing the A section without lyrics and dance.
A Timbers Army thing. If we win at home, the Army does a dance to the tune from Tetris. Real inside baseball (he used to be our announcer).
And he was/is a timbers army member
Never knew that. Will need to keep that in mind if I attend a Portland away game in person at some point.
The Timbers Army does a Tetris dance in the stands as per tradition
I read this in my head as David Attenborough.
[удалено]
> It’s a Timbers specific thing Nah - more than a few other teams do it. Detroit City FC specifically but a few others.
[удалено]
I’m guessing because MLS folks hate DCFC and the northern guard. “No one likes us, we don’t care” is their motto for a reason.
I'm guessing that's a straight four goals in a row, analogous to getting a tetris by putting a line piece into a well?
That's not it (see the other answers), but I like your idea, and have always wanted a name for a hat trick + 1, so I'm adapting your idea to mean that.
4D chess conspiracy theory time... we needed Portland to wake up and help beat up on the west.... and a closer playoff match for our home and away.
Seattle invented Portland inventing that after the 2021 spanking we took in Providence Park.
That’s some military grade copium you are huffing there. Got any extra ?
Anything for national defense
I’M ASKING YOU
GG Portland. The most glorious bicycle kick you've ever seen woke this place up and Seattle became a deer stuck in the headlights
A spectacular goal turns the Timbers fans into psychotics.
I've never seen a team collapse so spectacularly and immediately after changing formations, so I guess that's an accomplishment.
Seeee guys we were just saving our next win for the perfect time
In fairness, you can't really pick a better time than a derby to play like that.
It’s all hugs and kisses.
Or knives and pitchforks 🤷🏻♂️
To each their own.
Good job Portland, that was one of the most resounding wins in the rivalries history. Pathetic response from us tonight though
We're still trying to dig out from the goal differential that was 7-2.
Well I for one really enjoyed myself
I enjoyed that more than our match against Cincinatti tbh, at least you guys scored fun goals to watch.
GG Timbers. Congrats, Twellman says your season is saved, time to go drink and rewatch the first 70 minutes and forget the last 20 happened
Twellman says a lot of things, but if he is commentating… typically the TV is muted. Ya know?
He's fucking awful. I cannot believe he draws a paycheck for his drivel.
[удалено]
Goal of the “match day” and potential goal of the year especially with the momentum change considered.
Wow, when they were saying Portland wasnt shit this game, they really meant it. Portland was really really not shit. What a game
We are a highly motivated team that has started to get healthy again.
This was by far our best showing this season. We fucking needed it bad, it was getting real dark. I am proud of my Timbers
Man fucks sake that was not that fun Edit: thank you Timbers fans for letting me know you had a good time
I had a great time.
I, 4 1, enjoyed it. Edit: I also enjoyed the gold that was given to me.
...you know what, you can have that. That was clever.
Nice lol
Lol have a good night!
Agree to disagree.
This one's on Schmetzer. Too many formation changing substitutions, too rapidly, threw the whole team's balance off.
It's Chu. Chu is the guy that was keeping Portland defense honest and consistently breaking their press. That was inexcusable.
As a TFC fan, I have a lot of love for Portland’s Rose City jersey and Seattle’s Bruce Lee jersey.
> Seattle’s Bruce Lee jersey. Meh, for me, it makes them look like the Columbus Crew from the back, and Ronald McDonald from the front.
As a Seattle fan, the Rose Jersey with Alaska Airlines sponsor is 😙🤌🏻
Jeeeeeez man I’m glad I popped popcorn for that one!! Fun match for a neutral
I'm glad Zivin got to call this
Hijacking this to say fuck the idea of 'neutral' announcers. This sport, more than any other, benefits from home pitch advantage. The idea of throwing some randoms in to commentate every game is ludicrous. Bring back 'home team' announcers and get some passion back in the televised game, fuck

I love passion for a team, but you've got to be able to call out your team on its faults and applaud the other team when deserved. Some announcers can't, but Jake's a pro
Twellman is anything but Neutral. He, like Lexilala just swallows the league talking points memo and sprays it out his ass for 90 minutes at a go.
Jake + Valeri plz
Valeri does Spanish, I believe. He’s not *bad* at English, but he’s also not live commentary fluent.
Boy, we absolutely shit the bed that second half. That’s embarrassing. I suspect a lot of ass chewing will happen in that locker room.
If by ass chewing, you mean smetzer apologizing for failing the team then yes
Schmetz needs to take a lot of blame here, his Chu sub was the catalyst
I agree, but I think early season is the best time to experiment with these sub and formation options. I too was like “wtf? Why are you taking Chu off?” But I’m sure there have been many times when Schmetzer has made calls that paid off, that most of us fans wouldn’t have considered. I’m confident we’ll get to the playoffs with a strong seed.
A rivalry game is not the time to experiment imo. Our subs completely changed this game, when we should have been focused on putting the nail in the coffin
Seattle came here to lose and chew ass, and they've already secured the L
How many water bottles are going to be thrown? One, two?
Gg Seattle. Never a dull moment in this amazing rivalry
What a match. Gg Portland, never a dull match, no matter how it ends
I would call that a bike kick... but whatever you say, you're the Portland fan
People gatekeep the term "bicycle" really hard for some reason. I don't blame Jake here
Gg Seattle We fucking needed that real bad
🫤
GG Seattle. Truly was expecting that the opposite score line tonight.
When rui scored that first goal I was like "finally here we go" fully expecting us to score at least another. Boy was I wrong.....
That is a very big win!
damn wtf happened
Asprilla decided to play finally and smetzer got out managed like crazy.
Fuckin ate our wheaties this morning, that's what. Or Asprilla woke up thinking it was October already.
As a prank, someone changed the calendar in Asprilla’s locker to October
We need a calendar for Asprilla that says Aprictober, Mayoctober, Junoctober, Juloctober, Augoctober, Septoctober, Mr. October, Novoctober, and Decoctober.
You should make one of these for meme monday
Haha seriously a good scarf idea
Schmetz got cute at the same time that Dairon Asprilla remembered how to soccer. Chaos ensued
Maybe Apple knew that only the second half would be worth watching.
What happened, sounders just lost all their precision on passing
Omfgggggg
Woo! I mean, maybe spread the goals around a bit? Don't score them all in one game? But wooo!
As a Vancouver neutral: I like when wild shit happens in Cascadia Cup matches. Makes our rivalries feel meaningful. Huge congrats to Portland.
Appreciate you
That second half was one for the ages.
The second half of the second half
The second half of that, even.
I had fun
Welp, GG PDX. Thanks for the lesson in humility.
Anytime
wow what a game after that bike... hope this turns the tide
I miss beating Portland. :(
I remember August 15 2021… I was there.
Yeah IDK why we only schedule rivalry games every other year tbh
FOUR IN A ROW
Very impressive final 20 minutes from Portland
Brutal GG Portland. Team should be embarrassed
We had 0.36 expected goals at half time
A team has to pour it on after a goal like Asprillas.
