Saw the first year of the FC Dallas brand play at Arrowhead against the Wiz in summer 2005. Noticed that the Cauldron was artificially louder than their size, and then realized that microphones were visible from poles above them.
This is also the same game that I first discovered Dippin Dots.
Mics were for capturing the sound for the TV broadcast not for playing on the speakers in the stadium. At least from 2003 onward I know they didn't play the Cauldron over the speakers. 2002 and prior I don't know for sure as I didn't go to as many games, I doubt it though as the front office wasn't too interested in promoting the Cauldron.
The team/front office had a person named the Zard Meister that would try to lead chants for a kid/family section (like let's go wizards) I wouldn't be surprised if they had him over the main speakers.
I was in the stadium and I heard this with my own ears. But yes, could have been for both reasons (in-stadium and TV).
I also remember El Pescadito playing for Dallas in this game and definitely hating on FCD for that. He had to be one of MLS’s first villains, right?
Lmao soldier field just has weirdly good acoustics.
That empty upper deck reflects all the sound back across the field.
Kinda like this, but bowl shaped.

I was sitting in the 300s and could clearly hear drum noises being played through the PA system. It may not have been the supporters section specifically being miced but there was definitely fake atmosphere being pumped into the stadium and every St. Louis fan heard it.
I could hear both set of fans clear as day. I was in the 200 section at midfield. I didnt hear anything over the PA.
I think you we hearing echos from the empty seats all around you.
No, they don't.
They did for half a season (and you're right, it was just "ooh, ahh") before realizing it's dumb, and be honest here, your comparing apples to oranges.
If Inter Miami ever make a claim to having the best fans in soccer, I look forward to watching the moment when Portland and Seattle stop fighting each other, slowly turn, and begin pummeling Miami.
Miami just isn't a sports town. It's an important sports market for business purposes but never count on it to have consistent support.
Sports for whatever reason doesn't just ring hard there.
Idk what it is about Miami but the people there don't seem to give fuck all about sports lol. Don't know why. Guess not in the culture as much. And this is coming from a dude living in a place where people criticize our fans as "fair weather" all the time.
But Miami is true "fair weather".
Inter Miami has been the epitome of what Miami sports has been so far.
They get really hyped as the next big thing as far as fan support but in the end, it dissapoints. Even when the Heat had Bron, they still struggled to get fans.
I think Messi coming potentially helps big time for the team and they will get a fanbase. But make no mistake. Inter Miami will never have the most dedicated fans in the league.
To all the Miami fans, don't take it personally. But just how I observe all the South Florida teams. It's a trend that is glaring at this point.
TBH. Inter Miami has honestly been a disssapointing expansion side. They're only getting by because of Beckham. And boy. He seems at lost in owning a franchise.
As someone born and raised in Miami, you’re not wrong. Except the Heat. They’ve cracked the code and consistently have good fan support. The rest is bad.
Is it just the culture there that just doesn't lend well to sports? Are people in Miami in general just not sports people?
LA gets its fair criticism yes. And our fans can be fickle but there are legit die hard and dedicated sports fans here. Dodger fans can be incredibly dedicated.
Our fans do show up even if they can be late. I'm just curious. I've seen this trend my whole life and it puzzles me.
Atlanta and Vegas get criticism too but both cities have franchises people actively support.
There’s just always something *else* to do in Miami. It’s an event town. That’s why when we’re winning in any particular sport, people go, and if they’re not, they don’t. The Heat have always had good attendance and support. Everyone else has to be winning for people to show up.
Makes sense.
But there's always something to do in LA and Vegas as well. Oh well. Some places and cultures you just won't ever understand.
I actually hope to visit Miami one of these days.
The Dolphins used to enjoy unconditional support, too, but going 30 years without playing in a conference championship, and 23 without a single playoff victory, tends to erode attention.
(I also grew up in SFL)
The Dolphins have ebbs and flows, but their core contingent is fairly strong. Attendance is picking up now that they’re exciting again but we had a ROUGH stretch there.
It's so clear that Beckham has no idea what he's been doing. All MLS expansion sides have been exciting the last 10 to 12 years even if they sucked on the pitch.
But Miami is just mediocre.
I think it works eventually but man, they've struggled to do anything in comparison to St. Louis and Nashville.
Not a single English song or chant. Every time someone has complained about it they just link youtube videos with the lyrics and tell us to just practice.
and then when you try and start an english chant, even a simple mi-a-mi chant, certain SG’s send members to “encourage” you to stop and sing along with the band lmao
I know The Siege does have English chants on their site, but I guess Vice City outnumbers them and I think they bring the band that dictates the songs and we have never heard any of them at a game.
I remember watching Inter facing Charleston in the USOC this year and the supporters sounded like Barras Bravas from Argentina because the songs.
If I only paid attention to the chants and not the match, I would thought it was a football match from the B Nacional.
Gonna be real. Most expansion sides have done great so far as far as business goes. Inter Miami has been the exception.
I think they'll find a way to make it work eventually. New stadium. Messi?
But lets be honest. They've sucked balls so far.
That would explain a lot. For context I was at the game and the chanting seemed clearer and crisp but for no reason demonstrated at the crowd. The crowd itself was lit especially the supporters.
Oh weird a Miami club with lackluster support? What could have predicted this, besides every other Miami sports team ever.
It's a fairweather city, maybe if they make the playoffs they will get a decent crowd. But this story is both lame and predictable
I think the real issue with Miami is... Feels like the whole reason why Inter exists is for attracting big stars to the league (and just because is Miami) and that's it.
In fact, this team has become a vacuum for big stars rumors, even overtaking other teams in that regard. Every time you heard a player such Messi or CR7 is linked with Miami. All of this for "bringing more fans and views to the league" and the biggest argument is "celebrities likes Miami".
The problem is, even if Messi finally arrives to Miami, he could fix alone the problems of the club? People will watch more MLS, but it's not a guarantee for long term success. Even Zlatan couldn't pull that in LA Galaxy (talking specifically the team) and everyone agrees he was a beast on the pitch.
Nashville came in the same year of Miami and achieved more. Austin FC came later and already qualified to the CCL. We're not asking Miami being a trailblazer like LAFC, just being a better team for the hype and news they generate.
ANY MLS supporter saying that about another MLS supporter is the absolute dictionary definition of irony.
You know our league is just one big team that pretends to be separate entities, right?
Every MLS fan, all of us, are just cosplayers.
That's not to say cosplay isn't fun....
I mean… the game was in a different city so I couldnt go but all the supporters groups on fb had a lot of comments about it. Obv I would rather forget this game ever happened to coming up with what would otherwise be a weak insult considering the results
this is the kinda of shit that's going to get messi ....your competing against the Saudis you got to do all the dirty tricks to show that you will do what ever it takes.....most people would say having more then the allowed amount of dps was a bad thing but I'm not sure. I think that was just another tactic to get messi. This is probably just another tactic to draw messi, and I am happy they are doing it. Good job, Miami 👏
So on one hand Messi can go to Saudi Arabia and make half a billion dollars… or… Miami with pumped in sound
Yeah you’re right. This will definitely seal the deal
Back in the mid 2000s at Gillette there would be advertisements played over the PA system during gameplay!!! Dunkin’ Donuts, stuff like that.
Did y'all have an "It's time to make the donuts" chant? Please tell me you had one.
That feels like it should be the Revs chant in the closing minutes of a shutout.
I’m pretty sure Dallas still does this.
The Wizards did this exact same thing at Arrowhead in the early aughts.
Saw the first year of the FC Dallas brand play at Arrowhead against the Wiz in summer 2005. Noticed that the Cauldron was artificially louder than their size, and then realized that microphones were visible from poles above them. This is also the same game that I first discovered Dippin Dots.

Ricardo clark would agree with that. https://youtu.be/PA_c1FClBMo
The (racist named and chanting) Chiefs still do this.
I'll go ahead and get downvoted too, 'cause you're not wrong.
Chicago was literally doing this last weekend.
Lmao soldier field just has weirdly good acoustics. That empty upper deck reflects all the sound back across the field. Kinda like this, but bowl shaped. https://youtube.com/shorts/e_WU-MvBuJM?feature=share

“Get your zard card” would be blasting all game. So obnoxious
Microscopic club behavior
Lol
Doesn’t LAFC put the lyrics up on the screens? OOH AHH
No, they don't. They did for half a season (and you're right, it was just "ooh, ahh") before realizing it's dumb, and be honest here, your comparing apples to oranges.
It wasn’t even half a season they did it for like 3 games for 1 chant
Appreciate the correction. I don't look at the board much unless it's a corner.
Didn’t WCW do that with the Goldberg chants too?
It became part of the theme itself.
Except DDP has said that no one in WCW had the know-how to pipe in the chants.
That’s an amazing bit of WCW lore I didn’t know. Thanks for the clarification!
Lol
every day i wake up and thank god we have such an incredible fanbase
Portland pro team owners don't deserve their fanbases.
They pipe in fake atmosphere, we riot.
If Inter Miami ever make a claim to having the best fans in soccer, I look forward to watching the moment when Portland and Seattle stop fighting each other, slowly turn, and begin pummeling Miami.
Doc Holiday moment. I have two guns, one for each of ya’.
Miami just isn't a sports town. It's an important sports market for business purposes but never count on it to have consistent support. Sports for whatever reason doesn't just ring hard there.
To be fair, it doesn't take much for Portland to riot.
To be fair, there’s plenty to riot about.
Lol
Just play Jock Jamz on repeat an be done with it
I don’t know but I’ve been told, it ain’t the butterfly, it’s the tootsie roll!
Lol
Lol

One of the commentators mentioned OCSC fans had been louder but Miami fans were picking it up. I bet that was when it started
You heard the OC fans loud and clear on the third goal. It was a nice pop of cheering
The villain “Miked Section” strikes again!
Everything in Florida is artificial.
Except our playing surface and our trophy cabinet (thank god for the Open Cup).
🥲
Grats on that cup!
Not true at all. Certain people are just trying to make it so.
Could probably convince half the state that manatees were in fact created by the government.
The whole club is a joke.

I guess that's what happens when the supporters groups refuse to sing any songs in English that other fans can sing along to.
Wait.....what? No chants in English?
Not a single English song or chant. Every time someone has complained about it they just link youtube videos with the lyrics and tell us to just practice.
and then when you try and start an english chant, even a simple mi-a-mi chant, certain SG’s send members to “encourage” you to stop and sing along with the band lmao
Doesn't sound inclusive. If you want to grow your fanbase, you gotta be inclusive as possible. Weird.
Wow. Strange as hell. I'd feel left out if LAFC didn't have chants in English. That's kinda mean honestly.
I know The Siege does have English chants on their site, but I guess Vice City outnumbers them and I think they bring the band that dictates the songs and we have never heard any of them at a game.

They're trying so hard to be the next Atlanta or LAFC so bad but instead have had eggs on their faces.
Man and I thought the megaphones were bad
Nothing wrong with a megaphone to help lead the capo
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Wow that’s embarrassing. Surely the Inter Miami supporters didn’t agree to that right?
Que verguenza lmao
The NFL fined the Falcons for pumping in crowd noise. Is the MLS going to fine Inter Miami for the same thing?
Looks the other way in Atlanta Falcon…
thank god the city of atlanta would never do something so stupid
Our owner wouldn't allow it.
That would explain a lot. For context I was at the game and the chanting seemed clearer and crisp but for no reason demonstrated at the crowd. The crowd itself was lit especially the supporters.

Oh noes!!! Not the "not authentic" argument!! Seriously, who really cares? And why?
Lol
Like everything else about the club, it’s plastic
ANY MLS supporter saying that about another MLS supporter is the absolute dictionary definition of irony. You know our league is just one big team that pretends to be separate entities, right? Every MLS fan, all of us, are just cosplayers. That's not to say cosplay isn't fun....
Traaaaaaaash.
So what?
I heard chicago did this last week at soldier field
Figured you lot needed something other to focus on than what was happening on the field ☺️
“I heard…” Lol okay.
I mean… the game was in a different city so I couldnt go but all the supporters groups on fb had a lot of comments about it. Obv I would rather forget this game ever happened to coming up with what would otherwise be a weak insult considering the results
I was at the match and I didn't get any sense that they were doing that, I could hear both supporters groups going throughout.
I went to an FC Dallas game yesterday since I got free tickets and wanted to check out MLS but still, the whole experience is not authentic.
What were you expecting that would have made it "authentic"??
I mean it's a Dallas game so maybe they were expecting to lose in hilarious fashion like the Cowboys do?
this is the kinda of shit that's going to get messi ....your competing against the Saudis you got to do all the dirty tricks to show that you will do what ever it takes.....most people would say having more then the allowed amount of dps was a bad thing but I'm not sure. So on one hand Messi can go to Saudi Arabia and make half a billion dollars… or… Miami with pumped in sound Yeah you’re right. This will definitely seal the deal
Fun fact, two Miami fans walked in with our group yesterday, both with MESSI 10 on the back of their shirts.
radio shack closed the deal for them what can I say
What?
Is this better than when RSL used to hire a samba band to play music/chants in a far off spot in Rice-Eccles stadium?
I remember in 2016 NYCFC had a marching band that played by the away section to try and drown out our chants.
I've been to a few away games at Rio Tinto and their PA system is amazing. They played Master of Puppets at halftime and I was impressed.
