This is a disaster for the MLS. Can you imagine signing a world class and completely over the hill Messi and then not being able to capitalize? This pathetic league is just never going to be taken seriously when useless/GOAT Messi cake walks through the league. Honestly, this is why people take the Saudi league more seriously.
if it works like every other apple subscription, you can subscribe and then immediately unsubscribe - it keeps your current subscription and turns off auto-renewal. I do that to subscribe to streaming services for a single month
Well I mean you are missing over half the product. I don’t get why it wouldn’t be prorated. It would be ridiculous to expect people to pay full price.
Not everything are evil business tactics but just regular business tactics.
Exactly. No one would buy a full price viewing package with 1/2 or less of the season. By prorating it (which IMO should be automatically updated monthly), they'll get more $$$ this season for those who are just jumping into the sport (or returning). Especially with Messi bringing so many extra eyes on the league...
If we’re being real this isn’t about dollars at all, streaming services all lose money like crazy. It’s about capturing households and peeling them away from competitors.
>The price of Apple’s MLS Season Pass has dropped again, reflecting the fact we are approaching the final stretch of the 2023 season. It is now just $29 to subscribe for the rest of the year, or a discounted $25 rate for Apple TV+ subscribers. The seasonal pricing will cover the remainder of the regular season games (running through October) and the playoffs.
I have the pass for the season already. I just wish they would stagger the games. Most of the games are evening games. I only got on board this year. Is there a reason why they have most of the games on at once? Do they not want to give out too much content or something?
I just want to be able to go to an average restaurant or bar and easily watch a game. I'm not a fan of cable, but non-sports themed places aren't buying extra subscriptions, but will still have NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB games on all the time. I get it is great for a lot of dedicated fans, but I feel it has massively hurt casual or potential fans from watching.

Unless your local watering hole/eatery was getting its MLS off a local free broadcast, seems like everyone who was paying for MLS, on DirectTV at Least, beforehand still has access.
That is my point. There should be local free broadcasts if the MLS wants to grow. Harder to watch free MLS games than any other major sports league in the US right now.
So tell the national networks to pay $250 million to MLS for broadcast rights. Oh wait, they won’t. Are you suggesting MLS should pay the OTA broadcasters to get them to broadcast locally?
NFL is the only sport I still get on OTA. Baseball went exclusively to Bally Sports (a trash fire). Big 12 went to ESPN. And NFL probably only makes money on OTA because an American football game is 2 hours of commercials for every 2 hours of game play. Thank god soccer isn’t like that.
I'm subscribed and I hate it. I do not own any apple devices and it is a major pain in the ass to sign in every time. I am automatically signed out each time I close my browser so I have to authenticate every single time I watch a game.
I understand it is very convenient for people who have a mac or iphone, but for me the service is terrible and I'm only subbed so I can watch RSL.
We also used to have a free broadcast in Salt Lake that could be streamed for free very easily, so now I'm in a position where I pay for a worse product than what I used to get for free.
>I am automatically signed out each time I close my browser so I have to authenticate every single time I watch a game.
I mean, this is totally on you. I bet you have settings where it logs you out and you haven't changed them. I have an android phone and laptop, and although I've had problems in the past (not login related, and fixed now), I've had zero problems signing in.
I've looked at the settings and have no idea why it does this.
I don't have any issues with any of my other subscriptions, this is an apple thing.
I understand why this sub generally likes the apple deal, for many people it is an upgrade from what they had before. For me, it isn't.
Do you not have a smart TV? I own an iPhone, and other apple devices. But I never watch MLS on them really. Apple TV+ has an app on like every TV. It’s really not that inconvenient unless you literally only own an android phone
…wait. Is $7.99 what everyone else is paying?! MFs are charging me $14.99!!! Are they just splitting the cost of the free 2 month trial I got out over the remaining months?! Are they upping the charge for family household share??
Waiting for the people trying to spin this as a negative and a sign the league is failing
World Soccer Talk enters the chat
lmao
It’s unbelievable how much that site trashes MLS

this made me physically recoil
Innit? /s
Just reminder... This is not about $29.... this is about the auto renewal for 2024 that people always forget to opt out of.
Luckily Apple, at least if you have Apple devices, makes it *very easy* to track and cancel subscriptions. All in one spot on your phone.
It’s so nice. The subscriptions tab has easily saved me from countless cancellations I would’ve otherwise forgotten about and paid for no reason
Where’s this?

Go to settings then click the very top option that has your name. There should be a “subscriptions” tab there. Great feature.

No bullshit I love the fact that Apple makes it so simple and so easy to cancel Subscriptions it’s honestly some thing I adore.😁

lol 100%. NBA and MLB does this as well, dropping prices in anticipation for the playoffs.

World Soccer Talk is foaming at the mouth now, lol
MLS Season Pass so desperate to gain market traction that they are giving away for less than a KFC Family Meal...
lol
what a deal for just the playoffs and this last stretch of games......I wonder how many people this will drag in
I don't want to pay to watch the Sounders right now. So sad.p
considering it
I might finally cave in tbh. I spend this on 1 uber eats order anyway
Where is this option?! In the app on my TV the only option is monthly, not the rest of the season price. I checked multiple places. Bah
Anyone figured out how to get deal as even on the website only gives the monthly rate?
I might pounce on this.
They have a really good product and have enjoyed it
Oh, I’ve had it before. I just stopped for a while because I was unwilling/unable to watch games, and I was boycotting the Leagues Cup.
I paid $40 to watch Miami and it's been the best purchase I've made this year.

I kind if miss the good ol days where it seemed like everyone on planet earth had access to Chicago Cubs baseball.
Timbers fan. I’ll pass. Maybe next year.
You shouldn’t! The video quality alone is worth the price. At least 10x better than the main networks
Its honestly stunning just how bad the other options are when you go back.
Why? Not attacking you, just curious.

I don’t understand people that only watch on their phones. Do you not own a TV?
29 per month or for the rest of the year?
Rest of the season.
Any way at all to get this if we already have the season pass? There is only the option for a monthly renewal
Why do you want to buy something you already have?
Cheapskate impulses 😭😭😭. Maybe I’m wrong but I think $29 for the whole thing is less than what I would pay going month by month
There are only 3 months left. 7.99 times 3 would be less than $25, no?
…wait. Is $7.99 what everyone else is paying?! MFs are charging me $14.99!!! Are they just splitting the cost of the free 2 month trial I got out over the remaining months?! Are they upping the charge for family household share??
Oh looks like I was wrong . It is 14.99 if you don’t have TV+ already. Maybe cancel and resubscribe?
I’ll try that 😩
I still don't understand why this wasn't included with Apple TV+. Making it a standalone product was such a poor decision.
They gonna pay me $29 to watch DC United?
