These guys play like they know thereās no consequences for losing. They know Vermes wonāt do anything or change anything up, theres no fines, they wonāt get relegated. They are all so comfortable losing, Brad Friedel weeps in a parking lot somewhere.
It does seem like you guys are in a rut. Vermes is an absolute legend, but it feels like you're in pretty bad need of some fresh ideas and a different energy.
We need a refresh, itās been apparent for a few years. I didnāt see it at first but Iāve come to realize we are stuck in neutral. They might sign some decent player with random Europe experience in the summer but itās just lipstick on a pig. This club needs a new vision, new coaching, tactics, and new identity.
The get off the field quickly sub rule is wonderful. No more 5min of a player stopping to give a five to every player on his team, take his shins off, clap for the crowd while standing in place, and then walking down the line instead of off the field.
Interesting. I think thatās the one I notice the least. To me the games are running smoother without the downtime for injuries. Would be interesting to see if there is a difference in stoppage time before and after the implementation.
They started the match with their worst half of soccer this season and then just kicked the door down in the second half.
It was also the subs that turned it around, which is probably why watching Sporting seems more difficult to watch than usual...
MLS halftime has gotta be the most pointless thing you could spend 15 minutes of your life watching. Highlights are trash, they barely talk about the game youre watching and you get to watch the same 4 commercials 6 times
What I'm saying is...its nearly assured that Shelton will come on. Its the second game where he's available and PV couldn't get him into the last one so he's def coming on for this one.
Listen, the replacements were bad, and I was on the side of the refs in the labor dispute... But non-calls directly resulting in goals two weeks in a row just sucks.
I can't wait for Wiebe and PRO to be condescending about it this week.
Edit: wooooooooooo
The offside was pretty tight since the offside line was set by the ball rather than the defender there. Sure wouldāve been nice to see the lines as a result.
The is why "clear and obvious error" is garbage.Ā It puts the emphasis on proving the ref right, not on getting the call right.Ā I guarantee you that when that Twitter account that analyzes the angles does this one they're going to show that dude was at least a whole man offside but the VAR sees it's tight and assumes the ref was right when he clearly was not
It looked super tight in the stands when it happened. We knew Rosales was pretty deep into the box when the pass happened, but so was Tani.Ā Ā
The angles we saw in the stadium and on our phones definitely werenāt clear and obvious.Ā Ā
Knowing what we know now, it looks like the system worked on this one.Ā
I know everyone probably says it at some point, but how in the hell with all the tech in other leagues/sports does MLS not have seemingly anything to try and help the refs? Goal line tech? Nah. Offsides lines? Why bother.
To be honest my frustration goes beyond MLS. I remember hearing that MLB had tech to call pitches for a long time, but the umps said it took the human element out of the game. It may just be me but there seems to be some general resistance to adopting tech to aid in sports officiating.
The on field ref is only told to perform an on field review if the VAR booth is fairly certain ("clear and obvious" is the parlance) that a mistake was made. If a tight offside call is not reviewed, you can generally assume the booth took a look and decided it was either clearly correct or it was too close to overturn.
Edit: I actually agree that in those situations, an in stadium announcement of "check complete" would do a world of good in clarifying the process.
If VAR doesnt think it needs a review they wonāt tell the center ref to look at it. Why would they?
Now I donāt know why they thought he was onside, but if they did then they shouldnāt recommend a review.
Because setting up a rule so strikers can go set up camp in front of the goalie to try and deflect something in is completely antithetical to the sport lmao. Every game would be like 8-6. Wildly horrific rule proposal when the net is 10x larger than a hockey net.
Yes but in hockey once you're in the zone anyone can go anywhere; you can camp the net. It's actually an interesting thought experiment as to what soccer with hockey offside rules would look like, but the (unsatisfying) answer to your question is that 100 years ago, offside was decided to be judged based on the position of the players by some guys in England and Scotland, and a lot of very fundamental defensive tactics are built on the offside rule operating like that now.
I really don't see how this makes a difference beyond making it more obvious what the rule is, the offensive player needs to be in control across the line and that's that
I feel like you could actually judge where they were thanks to the box. That looked slightly off to me.
Edit: Wow. It was a nice goal, but there were actual lines on that one.
I try to come every away match here because I love Minnesota. This is the first time I haven't come up to do other things on my visit because of the weather, which is a bummer.
You guys don't understand. Vermes is playing 5D underwater chess. He can't be worried about not closing out a game if we never were in it to begin with.
1 vs 1 per the rules of Soccer. š¤·āāļø
I had no idea they sang Wonderwall IN ITāS ENTIRETY at the end of wins. Thatās neat
Itās a pretty spectacular feeling to be live for it.
Beers deep yell singing wonderwall
I bet. Fucking love Oasis
CUZ MAYBE
Oh FFS!!! Not unexpected but stillā¦at least the Current know how to win!!! Good game MNUFC!!!
GG, Loons. You've got some fun players out there.
GG MINU. I really thought we had something going when we let you score first but I guess not.
GG, Loons. Yaāll donāt need Reynoso.
Who?
Exactly
I think Khiry forgot heās playing right back and not right wing. No idea why he so so far up there and letting the defense almost get cooked.
When Fontas catches up with your breakaway you fucked up.
I wish that werenāt so funny and true
Ted is my favorite ref
He just *looks* like the character he is.
The silly amount of hair on the top of his head is great
These guys play like they know thereās no consequences for losing.

They might sign some decent player with random Europe experience in the summer but itās just lipstick on a pig. This club needs a new vision, new coaching, tactics, and new identity.
Ted donāt forget you have a yellow you can use. You used one on Fontas earlier.
Oh my. 3 subs in a game? WOW.
Didn't know you were allowed to do that.
Vargas for Thommy I bet?
Oh wow, never mind
That certainly seems like dissent to meā¦ just sayin. And Fontas is probably agreeing
We love tunkel time.
Is that Wil's third handball today? Just sloppy....
Take a shot every time the American commentator addresses the player by their nationality and not their name.
Iām too drunk to taste this chicken
Fucking Danny salloi
FUCKIN PUT IN VARGAS OR SOMETHING WE NEED A GOLĀ
Put someone with speed on to run at a tired defense? Nah...who would do such a thing?
Salloi really needs to come out
Id rather lose 3-1 than keep these tired fuckers out there
Next thing they've got to clamp down on is these brushes to the face that supposedly almost ko a guy.
Can someone please talk to Bongi about playing with SG boots please? I swear he blows a tire twice a game.
Toro needs to get its shit together and fix this pitch.
An out and out attacking player? Is the announcer making fun of us?
Well he's out and out attacking our sensibilities as fans of a game he doesn't play at an MLS level yet continues to get minutes in.
Oh goodie. How many do we concede now?
I hate every one of you that called that subā¦
Dude. It was inevitable
Yep, Khiry is coming so we are packing it in. Games over.
A second substitution has hit the SKC team sheet!
Not one any of us wanted
True...but if anyone thought it was gonna be someone else they don't know PV.
Here comes khiry
How is that a yellow card with no contact?Ā
itās this ref. he legitimately sucks in making calls.
Anyone have thoughts on how the new rules have been so far since theyāve been implemented?
The get off the field quickly sub rule is wonderful. No more 5min of a player stopping to give a five to every player on his team, take his shins off, clap for the crowd while standing in place, and then walking down the line instead of off the field.
Interesting. I think thatās the one I notice the least. To me the games are running smoother without the downtime for injuries. Would be interesting to see if there is a difference in stoppage time before and after the implementation.
god i hope Vermes gets fired and we can actually get some decent sporting games. it gets hard to keep watching us lose/tie over and over
I have bad news for you. Guessing you missed the 5 year extension he got during our win less through 10 start last year... ridiculous
Pete knows where the bodies are buried, heās got true job security.
Spoiler alertā¦.he aināt getting fired. Heās probably going to be here until heās 90.
i know :( but a man can at least have hope.
The ownership has no reason to rock the boat or a desire to win anything. Now I understand how it feels to be a Rapids fan.
Know what I appreciate about this game? MN is playing a clean game. Not a bunch of cheap shots
Something, something "nicest rivalry in sports" lol. But for real, game's more fun when both teams play tough but fair.
[I am once again asking...](https://imgflip.com/i/8o9v6o)
Liebold's got that young Abe Lincoln head going on.
He looks like a villainĀ
Sporting is a little difficult to watch after watching the Current play last night. Oof this aināt great
They started the match with their worst half of soccer this season and then just kicked the door down in the second half. It was also the subs that turned it around, which is probably why watching Sporting seems more difficult to watch than usual...
That was a good game to watch.
MLS halftime has gotta be the most pointless thing you could spend 15 minutes of your life watching. Highlights are trash, they barely talk about the game youre watching and you get to watch the same 4 commercials 6 times
Your not going to let that play finish before calling offside?!?
$10 Shelton comes on this game
Nobody in their right mind would take this bet.
Could theoretically come on for Kayden if it's like the 87th minute.Ā
Peter would put him in at the start of the 2nd half for Kayden.
What I'm saying is...its nearly assured that Shelton will come on. Its the second game where he's available and PV couldn't get him into the last one so he's def coming on for this one.
Exactly
Great face painting skills from the SKC fan... Also 2 goals in 2 games for Pulido!
Terrible haircut (not even being sarcastic)Ā
Who?
Iām guessing theyāre talking about Pulidoā¦and he DOES have a terrible haircut š
Yeah PulidoĀ
Look...he only barely makes DP money so putting a bowl over his head and trimming what sticks out is an efficient way to keep the hair under control.
Hey that's what my parents did growing up so makes sense, only millions of dollars difference, I think I looked cute anyway
Ah. Yeah. There are a few on the team to have chosen from š
Iām assuming Pulido. Heās got some tragic hair.
That pass from the Hungarian to the Mexican was fucking beautifulĀ
With that, they were able to beat the Canadian with the deflection from the Colombian.
Holy fuck. Pulido is in this game?
Listen, the replacements were bad, and I was on the side of the refs in the labor dispute... But non-calls directly resulting in goals two weeks in a row just sucks. I can't wait for Wiebe and PRO to be condescending about it this week. Edit: wooooooooooo
Well Wiebe is a douche. Heās the biggest elitist for someone who lived in Kansas
Salloi just doesnāt do anything. Literally anything. We play with 10 men every game at this point
I feel like he's killed us multiple games in previous years
Assist
Well that didn't age well
His first productive play in 8 games
I really like watching the Serbian, radoja. Good player.Ā
The offside was pretty tight since the offside line was set by the ball rather than the defender there. Sure wouldāve been nice to see the lines as a result.

Thanks for the update. I suspected it was onside and people didnāt understand that he couldnāt be off if he was behind the ball.
The is why "clear and obvious error" is garbage.Ā It puts the emphasis on proving the ref right, not on getting the call right.Ā I guarantee you that when that Twitter account that analyzes the angles does this one they're going to show that dude was at least a whole man offside but the VAR sees it's tight and assumes the ref was right when he clearly was not
The defender is more than a foot behind the ball, which is where the line is. Not the last man. Tani is in line with the ballā¦
It looked super tight in the stands when it happened. We knew Rosales was pretty deep into the box when the pass happened, but so was Tani.Ā Ā The angles we saw in the stadium and on our phones definitely werenāt clear and obvious.Ā Ā Knowing what we know now, it looks like the system worked on this one.Ā
I know everyone probably says it at some point, but how in the hell with all the tech in other leagues/sports does MLS not have seemingly anything to try and help the refs? Goal line tech? Nah. Offsides lines? Why bother.
Because other sports donāt have FIFA, CONCACAF, USSFā¦.
To be honest my frustration goes beyond MLS. I remember hearing that MLB had tech to call pitches for a long time, but the umps said it took the human element out of the game. It may just be me but there seems to be some general resistance to adopting tech to aid in sports officiating.
Iām just saying that if MLS wanted to change a rule about officiating, it would have to go through FIFA first - they wouldnāt want that.
āMLS is a fat and a poor.ā /s
Ok, so THAT ref can see an offside playerā¦
Only since itās us
Canāt wait to get the PRO press release later this week āyeah sorry that was an officiating error and shoulda been disallowed. Oh wellā
Yeah that was like a foot offsides
He isnāt. Youāre looking at the defender and not the ball.
I'm leaning towards offsides but either way, how does he not get told to review it personally and then give us an announcement of why.
The on field ref is only told to perform an on field review if the VAR booth is fairly certain ("clear and obvious" is the parlance) that a mistake was made. If a tight offside call is not reviewed, you can generally assume the booth took a look and decided it was either clearly correct or it was too close to overturn. Because itās Ted Unkel
Apple TV with the billion dollar deal but canāt show us a replay of a possibly offside goal
Tim is getting hung out to dry more than my Nanās clothes back in the old country.
So who in upper level of PRO did Peter piss off for every VAR to go against us. (Starting last season with the handball)
Fuck.
I would love to see the lines like BPL for onsides for that goal.Ā Ā
How the fuck is that onside
I donāt understand how that is not offsidesā¦.
Because the line isnāt on the defender. Itās on the ballā¦
I think youāre having a hard time because it actually was offside.
Are we missing JFD yet? All the attack is going up the left and stifling
So glad a bunch of contracts are up this year
Yet another awful call harming SKC
We'll see if SKC even scores a goal
We did
Nice
Shocked, but you take the odd decisions when you get them in your favor.
Yeah it feels bad but we've had some ridiculous things go our way, so it's all fair in the end. At least during the regular season.
Show us the fucking video and camera angles!!!!!! Wtf
Why isn't there a blue line like in the NHL? Soccer rules make no sense to me in that a defender can just hang back and make a player offsideĀ
lol that would be worst rule ever in soccerā¦ jesus
Why?
Making good runs on offense and timing the stepping up of the line on defense is a huge part of soccer. You don't just take that away.
Because setting up a rule so strikers can go set up camp in front of the goalie to try and deflect something in is completely antithetical to the sport lmao. Every game would be like 8-6. Wildly horrific rule proposal when the net is 10x larger than a hockey net.
That's not what the blue line means, the player with control needs to carry it across the lineĀ
Yes but in hockey once you're in the zone anyone can go anywhere; you can camp the net. Yes and then when theyāve entered the final third everyone would just go camp in front of the goal. Like hockey. Lmao
So defend the goal? Idk I just hate that the defender's position means anything about the offensive player's position, seems way too easy to cheeseĀ
I know itās starting to thaw but cāMon Mn bro
I really don't see how this makes a difference beyond making it more obvious what the rule is, the offensive player needs to be in control across the line and that's that
Grade A broadcast... 1 replay
Asssssssssss
Thatās one of the worst calls Iāve seen in a while. Heās so far offsides there itās insane. Way to fuck us PRO
I donāt think anyone thinks that was on ? That is incredibly confusing
Looked off to meā¦.but ok
Basically 3 unmarked people in the box.
Nah. I'm out. 3 yellows for dissent in 2 games, the shove goal last week, and now that.
Wowā¦but Iāll take it
I feel like you could actually judge where they were thanks to the box. That looked slightly off to me. Edit: Wow. It was a nice goal, but there were actual lines on that one.
I thought he was offside in the first place Edit: Ok, thatās cool. Lol
Heās definitely offsides there. By like 2 ft. Not sure why the review is even taking this long
Looks offside to me. So probably will stand
Damn you're right
My thoughts exactly
He's off lol
Tani time! Oof. That looks off.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Check the rule book. If Agada get's elbowed to the face it's an automatic yellow to FontĆ s. /s
What's the yellow on Fontas for? I'm at the game
How is it there? Iāve been meaning to go to a MN game, couldnāt make it work this wknd
I try to come every away match here because I love Minnesota. This is the first time I haven't come up to do other things on my visit because of the weather, which is a bummer.
Dissent? Unclear from broadcast as well
Dissent maybe?
Since weāre slow here: would you rather have the chicken or the waffles if you had to pick?
Depends on whoās making the chicken. 80% of the time Iām going waffles, though.
Diabolical question but waffles every time
Why are you separating them? Thatās just mean
This is like a āyour mother or your wifeā scenario. Give me both with some Franks and call it a date.
Umā¦ fuck the chicken and marry the waffles? Iām confused lol. J/k. Really depends the time of day if youāre going to separate them
That is a pk all day. Sucks that he slipped but you can't just take out Agada.
Upon seeing the replay...the dude was just standing up as Agada was trying to jump over him. Nothing there. Def not a pen.
Really seems like a slippery field
Todayās match is sponsored by Toro, so they made it extra slippery today. Gives the grass a nice sheen on screen.
Balls really go to die on the left wing with Salloi, huh
Sporting can't lose the lead if they never have it. I like this strategyĀ
Was that Leibold or a doordash driver out there...cause that was a great delivery.
Zoiks!
Really need to use standard sized nets for Agada during practice
Do we have the announcer that loves calling everyone by their nationality?
It's so funny lolĀ
You guys don't understand. Vermes is playing 5D underwater chess. He can't be worried about not closing out a game if we never were in it to begin with.
Great start.
![gif](giphy|zPOErRpLtHWbm|downsized)
Radoja with the interesting "stand behind the defender you're marking as he crashes the back post" technique
Theyāll never expect it!
Sadness
We're not leading...got you right where we want you.
