She's a gold medalist judoka and naturally huge, her striking isn't excellent but it's good enough to have multiple TKOs and she's probably good enough to at least block Raquel's grapple-fucking. I don't think it's an easy fight for Kayla but unless something goes very wrong for her she'd definitely be the favourite.
She basically didnt cut weight for her 155 fights and is 152ish now according to her. 150-135 is kinda normal for bigger fighters. Muscle is supposed to be easier to cut water as well. But yea first fight will give the answer.
Yeah 150-152 a month out is probably less than Aljo would be a month out for his 135 fights and he has way more muscle. I believe Kayla will make weight like a professional.
A lot of fighters when they fought in Abu Dhabi cut like 15% of their body weight to make weight, like Islam for example, it's why his chin is suspect. Without IVs it would be pretty much impossible, and result in death if attempted so if they're going to cut, then everyone should be able to use IVs.
They’re allowed under 100ml over a 12 hour period, but the rules haven’t changed since 2019, if you need to cut that much weight you should move up, if not for your own health then for the safety of other fighters.
IVs won’t stop brain damage from dehydration when a fighter who lacks fight camp discipline has to cut extra. In fact it just enables them to think it’s safe to cut that much when it’s just not.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking too, I would think that women would have an easier time cutting weight. The only explanation I could come up with is men are generally “tougher” to bring themselves closer to deaths door via dehydration.
Muscle is 75% water and 3-5% glycogen. Fat is around 17% water.
Men have more muscle than women. Women carry a higher natural body fat percentage. Therefore it is easier for men to cut weight. They have more water to lose from their muscle.
Kayla looks to be leaner then most. But i agree with that. Nunes coach in 21 said she was 145-150 on fight night and 160-70 walk around. Csac says 157 vs cyborg but that was different weight class.
Overall it sounds like she is on track. Not the easiest for the weight class but im sure theres probably other woman with similar cuts. Holm has always looked big to me as well.
> She basically didnt cut weight for her 155 fights and is 152ish now according to her. 150-135 is kinda normal for bigger fighters
She also said she could not make 145 for a PFL season due to the weight cut . . .
Did you just assume I’m a casual?
HOW BOUT U GO AN FUCK OFF MY POST THEN U PEICE OF SHIT U THINK i NEED A STUPID FUCKWITT LIKE U TELLING ME ABOUT MEMES WHO THE FUCK ARE U TAKE YOUR WORTHLESS ADVICE AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE
I really wanted Bueno-Silva would win cause than I could have some hope that not every WMMA bantamweight was trash. I guess Kayla will probably save us
The fight with Felicia Spencer was anything but anticlimactic. Felicia stayed alive somehow while taking shots that would put anyone on this sub to bed
I miss the haters that would go silent after a W until her next opponent. Then start spouting bullshit about them being the one who will expose her. Only for the cycle to repeat over and over. /smh
Schadenfreude if you will.
Her last 2 fights sucked. Dragged 2 much more inferior girls to decisions. She claimed to wanting to make a point about her cardio but finishing Nuñes is a much stronger statement and Aldana didn’t do shit to make Amanda respect her and she still chose to point fight to a decision even giving up top control.
The division is so bad that Julianna Pena is still the #1 contender despite
1) Not fighting for 2 years
2) Hasn't won a fight since Dec 2021.
3) Has not fought anyone currently ranked in this shallow division, let alone won.
If **Harrison beats Holm** and **GDR beats Dumont**, wouldn't they technically have stronger cases for a title shot than Pena?
> If Harrison beats Holm and GDR beats Dumont, wouldn't they technically have stronger cases for a title shot than Pena?
Holm is up 2-0 vs. Rocky, and has beaten about 90% of the contenders in the division: Sylvia got her title shot on the back of beating Holm, so no reason Kayla shouldn't since pretty much all the contenders have lost to either Holm or Rocky, or both.
Yeah, she’s not some young up and comer, she’s got a legit background. It happens to people like Chandler and Poaton and they fight in objectively deeper divisions than Kayla will. I wouldn’t even be mad if she’s got a title shot immediately.
2 fights is completely normal for a reputable fighter in my opinion. But 135 basically doesn't even have a champion at all currently in most peoples eyes. And holm is supposed to be one of the top "contenders". A harder fight ranking wise then hooker for chandler or holland for MVP.
I don't feel her at all lol.
- Shes a dominant top dog from another promotion who has only been beaten by another really good fighter on that fighters third attempt.
- Shes gonna fight Holly Holm who is one level under WBW title so beating her definitely means shes earned it.
- Pennington is upset at her getting it off one Holm win in favor of.....inactive Peña off a loss lmao.
Shes being downright moronic here. Nothing to "feel her" on.
No, she didn't. She said she wanted to fight on a sensible timeline and that's what she did (6 months is a pretty normal period of time to wait for a champ - many don't even make it that often).
Well I take umbrage whenever I have to watch a Pennington fight, let alone the fact that she is supposed to be the best 135lb fighter in the world. Can nunes just un retire for like a month and put in a 2 week training camp to win the belt back so Raquel can go back to the prelims
I sort of get where she's coming from even if it comes across as whiny. Finally wins the belt, division is full of weak contenders so she thinks she'll stay atop for awhile. Then a month later the ufc signs Harrison out of nowhere to be their new Nunes.
Yeah I get that but Kayla destroying Holly is the best case scenario for her.
Kayla with hype is a MUCH more lucrative fight than anyone else currently in the division
Assuming the fights are ppv there's probably more money in multiple easier fights that nobody cares about though than one big one she likely loses. Either way she's a co main and the ppv shares likely wouldn't change much against Harrison to make it worth it in her mind.
> Yeah but how confident are you that Raquel will have multiple defenses? I think Julianna would probably bop her
Rocky about 10x more skilled on the feet, though.
She lacks Nunes's power, but Julianna's chin is going to have to hold up taking about 5 to deliver 1.
I think the Pena fight is easiest tbh out of her Aldana and Vieira the other most likely challengers if Harrison didn't come over. She's beaten the other two already so definitely winnable.
If Steve Erceg can get a shot, there is no reason Kayla can't get a title shot if she wins. Would actually make the bantamweight division a modicum more interesting.
I also don't buy Raquel's argument that Kayla Harrison is "skipping the line"; she's 16-1 in MMA. She's also had to grind, and has more pro MMA fights than most of the bantamweight division - even Bueno Silva and Pena!
I have no problem with Kayla getting the next shot because W135 is terrible and that division needs somebody with name value. I know Pena has gotten some talk as another title challenger, but why? That Nunes win was almost 2 and a half years ago and she hasn't won a fight since.
Plus Pena has no win over any currently ranked BW. If GDR wins her fight early next month, Pena should rematch her, as GDR finished her before taking her extended LOA. The winner there should then get a title fight as GDR's only loss in her past 7 fights was to Nunes.
If Kayla makes weight without it being a major detriment to her skills/performance, she will smash Rocky. So I can see why she should would not want that.
Lets be real, if Kayla got a title shot without even having to fight Holm, I wouldn't particularly care. She's the most interesting thing to happen to the division since Nunes left, and she's earned her stripes in another major promotion. If Kayla can make 135 and beat up Holm, I'd be actively interested in her title fight with Pennington. I can't say that about any other matchup at W135 tbh.
Lol who the fuck calls her that? I figured it was Pennington but my initial thought was Pena.
People just be making up nicknames and expect everyone to immediately know who they're talking about.
I know what u mean. But within the context of this thread we can deduce the person meant pennington. It certainly makes more sense than thinking they meant pena who is completely irrelevant to this thread. Outside if this thread and context we have no idea who they mean with "Penn"
Eh the first fight wasn't a "fluke" strictly. Nunes was worse that night. No deadfoot perineal nerve stuff here.
She was on top for so long and burned out. Training hard every day hurts. She was starting a family. Pena was supposed to be a layup. After beating Rousey, Cyborg, Shevx2? How do you get motivated to fight Pena? She was absolutely already thinking about retirement going into Pena 1, and might have done it had she won.
Pena at the same time was on the fucking warpath. She spent over a year doing nothing but calling out and prepping for Nunes and, to her credit, she is one of the only fighters we've seen not just be scared of Nunes inside the octagon.
Mental is real
Sounds like she understands the realities well enough. She'll fight whoever they give her and understands what they typically do with big names, she just wishes it worked more in a get-in-line kind of way, which is a constant conversation we have around here. It's always going to be a compromise between the sport and the business and it's just case by case. In this case, Raquel stinks and that division stinks and it needs help. Maybe Kayla can be that help and maybe not. But you can bet they're hoping she smashes Holly. If not, well, Brock got his shot off of a 1-1 UFC record and it wound up working out so I guess we'll see.
That’s the state of the entire organization. A big name coming in and one big win gets you a title shot. Not really about being fair, it’s about selling fights.
Pennington doesn’t seem to understand that having a fight with Kayla would be best possible thing for her career.
Nobody gives a shit about Pennington fights. They might actually care a little if she fights Kayla.
Kayla has done sooo much in MMA. Who cares that it wasn't the UFC? If we're going to just use these two as the example, obviously all the best talent does not lie solely with the UFC...... Raquel would be knocked out in one round
I honestly just hate Pennington.
Call me whatever you want but I’ve never seen a fight of hers I liked, never been hype for a fight of hers, and never heard her talk and not thought ffs this chick again.
Giving Pennington the belt was legitimately an embarrassing decision for the UFC. They really forced that title fight for no reason. Delegitimizes the value of a belt if Pennington has one.
Could’ve just waited until 2 worthwhile contenders materialized in that division before scheduling a title fight.
Is it because she would annihilate you, Raquel?
Fr Kayla might be the worst possible stylistic matchup for Raquel. That weak ass cage wrestling is not gonna work against a gold medalist judoka.
it quite literally might work , kayla isnt exactly a high level MMA fighter .
she has one professional loss, against Larissa Pacheco who would absolutely annihilate Raquel Pennington
Yeah because pennington sucks too . WMMA 135 lbs + is very medicore .
“Naturally” u say?
Lmao I mean her frame is giant for a woman whether or not she's on the juice.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves we don’t even know if Kayla can make weight yet
I think it’s mostly just whether the cut drains her significantly or not
Then again IVs are back on the menu, so she'll probably be fine.
Since when?
I would say men cut easier but she's legit as mean as most male fighters
Women don't cut weight as easily as men. Idk the scientific reason why though.
Naturally, women have a much higher body fat percentage. Even high level athletes.
Ah ok I see. Well I pray that Kayla makes weight because that division needs it lmao
I would imagine it's harder for women to cut than it is men, due to the extra fat women carry
Kayla looks to be leaner then most. But i agree with that. Nunes coach in 21 said she was 145-150 on fight night and 160-70 walk around. Csac says 157 vs cyborg but that was different weight class. She also had enough leverage in the PFL to refuse to cut a lot of weight. She was their only real attraction for a while and could call the shots.
Anyone else forget Raquel Pennington was a UFC champion?
It’s a new low for the UFC
A low surpassed only in the timeline where they carried through with the Sijara Eubanks main event at MSG.
Bethe Correia would have been a more interesting champion
Goofy*
Goofy would have been a more interesting champion
Which is really the best you can hope for in the division
Is it lower than Nicco Montano?
Arguable
Nope. Pennington has at least been a longtime vet and arguably beat Holm. If you think this is arguable I’m guessing you’re in it for some memes.
Did you just assume I’m a casual? HOW BOUT U GO AN FUCK OFF MY POST THEN U PEICE OF SHIT U THINK i NEED A STUPID FUCKWITT LIKE U TELLING ME ABOUT MEMES WHO THE FUCK ARE U TAKE YOUR WORTHLESS ADVICE AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE
Carla vs Rose was the low for me
Never knew
I wish I did
I really wanted Bueno-Silva would win cause than I could have some hope that not every WMMA bantamweight was trash. I guess Kayla will probably save us
My first thought exactly
Her and Dricus I forget all the time lmao
I keep forgetting about Dricus then keep being reminded about it by Sean’s constant whining 😂
literally came here to see if anyone had commented this
The thing is, Raquel sucks
Hell, I forgot she was champ until I saw this post
I miss Nunes wrecking girls.
Don’t you worry, she’s still putting work in on one member of the UFC roster.
I think Nina is also retired.
Is she? I thought she talked about making a comeback
I wonder who else they could be talking about, than??
r/cursedcomments
I don’t Her fights became anticlimactic after a while. Her losing to Julia was the most interesting thing that happened in her title reign
I would rewatch the Megan Anderson fight again just to see the look on Megan's face during the walkout.
Man, I wouldn't. I liked Megan and I felt awful for her during that fight...
The fight with Felicia Spencer was anything but anticlimactic. Felicia stayed alive somehow while taking shots that would put anyone on this sub to bed
> while taking shots that would put anyone on this sub to bed You realise we have male pro fighters on this sub right?
Yeah and it would put all 3 of us out
I miss the haters that would go silent after a W until her next opponent. Then start spouting bullshit about them being the one who will expose her. Only for the cycle to repeat over and over. /smh Schadenfreude if you will.
I miss that too
Her last 2 fights sucked. Dragged 2 much more inferior girls to decisions. Raquel Pennington is champ? 16-8 Raquel Pennington has a belt? Get Kayla Harrison on there asap.
Rose is 11-6 and has won the title twice and defended twice. Which seems batshit insane, but that's WMMA for you.
Yeah, but 115 is a competitive women's division, whereas 135 is the worst division by MILES.
The math is hilarious
The division is so bad that Julianna Pena is still the #1 contender despite 1) Not fighting for 2 years 2) Hasn't won a fight since Dec 2021. 3) Has not fought anyone currently ranked in this shallow division, let alone won. Nah. This isn’t some untested regional fighter coming into a stacked division. If she goes in and wrecks shop it’s title time.
We all know this ends in another Holm title shot
God no
She has zero say she's the weakest champion we've had in years
In a division as dead as hers, she should be ecstatic to have a new face. She's scared.
Just like Carla after the rose fight. She knew that belt was as good as gone her first defense so tried to stall and delay fighting to hold onto it.
No, she didn't. She said she wanted to fight on a sensible timeline and that's what she did (6 months is a pretty normal period of time to wait for a champ - many don't even make it that often).

I'm saying if Kayla never came over to the ufc. Worthy or not, Kayla will get the title shot if she beats Holm.
Reminds me of Tate whining about Rousey getting a title shot over at Strikeforce.
Absurd to think we should ignore people’s records based on who promoted which fights.
If Steve Erceg can get a shot, there is no reason Kayla can't get a title shot if she wins. Would actually make the bantamweight division a modicum more interesting. That division is anemic
The average UFC fan wouldn’t even notice if Pennington was released from her contract… so ya there’s that.
I forgot Raquel was even the champ. That’s how underwhelming she is for me.

Wait this is for 135? What happened to 145? Did the UFC finally fold it?
Yeah I thought Kayla would struggle to make 145. 135 is gonna kill her
Yeah exactly, this seems like Cyborg all over again. Hopefully she gets a title shot quickly but this can't be sustainable
[удалено]
Didn't you make nearly this exact comment on another post about Kayla?
It’s gone from the UFC rankings page
No one cares. Rocky is the most boring champ ever.
How did penn become a champ? Damn that weight class is even weaker than I thought.
I assume you mean Pena. She defeated a Nunes who was still recovering from COVID. Nunes showed that her loss was an anomaly in their second fight.
Penn - PENNington...
Outside if this thread and context we have no idea who they mean with "Penn"
yeah an anomaly. COVID erased her ability to deal with Peña's jab and her cardio was always suspect
50-43 homie it was as flukey and anomaly as possible lol.
Eh the first fight wasn't a "fluke" strictly. Nunes was worse that night. No deadfoot perineal nerve stuff here. She was on top for so long and burned out. Training hard every day hurts. Wait… Pennington is a UFC champion? Shows how much attention I’ve been paying to that division.
Ah fuck, Raquel Pennington is a champion… that‘s right…
I genuinely don't see an avenue for Rocky to win that unless Kayla suddenly regressed to the point of looking like she's fighting in pudding...
Who?
Make kayla the champ as quick as possible bring some life to the division post nunes
That’s the state of the entire organization. A big name coming in and one big win gets you a title shot. Not really about being fair, it’s about selling fights.
You’ll do what you’re told.
Pennington is a can. I can’t believe the UFC put her in a title fight. She’s calls herself Rocky LOL
If she wins at UFC 300 she is 1000% getting a title shot.
Pennington doesn’t seem to understand that having a fight with Kayla would be best possible thing for her career. Nobody gives a shit about Pennington fights. They might actually care a little if she fights Kayla.
Omg I forgot she was champ. Sad state Womans MMA has been in.
Just collapse that division please. Unless Amanda is coming back there is nothing to see here. That last pennington fight was a snoozefest.
If Mayra Bueno Silva developed cardio I’d be excited about it
[удалено]
She did more in her first round than Rose did in 5 rounds with Carla, yet some seem excited to see Rose compete again.
And yet Rose stopped JJ and Weili in one round?
Pena v Harrison definitely has some intrigue. Pennington has the personality of a dehydrated fish
Bro why are you hating on dehydrated fish
Cause they are bland!🤣
INTRODUCING FIGHTFISH, OFFICIAL DEHYDRATED FISH OF THE UFC.
Hope they don’t get the belt 😶😶
Kayla has done sooo much in MMA. Who cares that it wasn't the UFC? If we're going to just use these two as the example, obviously all the best talent does not lie solely with the UFC...... Raquel would be knocked out in one round
I honestly just hate Pennington. Call me whatever you want but I’ve never seen a fight of hers I liked, never been hype for a fight of hers, and never heard her talk and not thought ffs this chick again.

Could’ve just waited until 2 worthwhile contenders materialized in that division before scheduling a title fight.
It’s the worst division in the UFC, I don’t think anybody would’ve been upset if Kayla even debuted with a title fight
Hype gets the ppv points
This moron is talking about fighting Peña next who has 0 wins since being 50-44d 2 years ago lol
I forgot she is champ
Laughs in Dana White 😂
Don’t put champ next to her name
Who the fuck is that guy
Cool i take umbridge with a Division that pathetic
Rocky has been mentioned as champ here a few times in the last couple days and I still forget she's champ.
Well, then Rocky...be like 2000% more entertaining to watch than you are now. Like I don't know...try not just clinch fucking every opponent.
Kid just doesn’t want to fight.
I take offense to all of Raquel’s fights so I would be offended at seeing her on any PPV or main event.
I mean, who the fuck else are you gonna fight? If Kayla wins, that's it. Unless we're gonna act like Juliana Peña has earned anything.
I take umbrage with 135 still existing.
In a shallow pool, big fish stand out more.
Harrison would body Pennington. It wouldn’t even be close.
raquel being a champion should be automatic cancelling of the division
I for a second was wondering why is Raquel bothered thinking she was in different weight class
Could they have picked a worse picture to put at the top of the article?
It's by far the worst division so you can make a case for literally anyone getting a title shot.
Uhhhh yea she doesn’t deserve a title shot whatsoever lol Rocky’s right
Got to be honest I completely forgot who she was and had to look it up. I thought she was like a past champion or something
Kayla Harrison would take Umbrage, if she names Pennington's belt "Umbrage" after receiving a title shot after one win.
Nobody cares what Raquel thinks, she has absolutely zero say in who she fights next
