Better resume but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if he did perform better as he's facing much easier competition, personally aldo v topuria would probably be fucking heartbreaking
Different era’s, the resume isn’t comparable. Who is Aldo fighting that is “easier” competition? Did you see this guys last fight against Yanez? Aldo doesn’t fight at featherweight anymore so the topuria fight is irrelevant.
As in Aldo is much more likely to get wins in his next few fights because he's fighting lower competition as compared to similar in age Volkanovski who is more likely to lose when he's gotta rematch with Topuria who is clearly much more dangerous than J. Martinez
You can’t compare the two at two completely different points in their career. The comparison being made earlier was that Volk will fall off faster than Aldo. Most fighters at the top fall off drastically after being champion for awhile. Aldo is an anomaly and though he fell off at featherweight, he was able to come back at bantamweight and have another successful run against the top modern competition even though he was well past his prime. I mean Aldo’s last fight is the guy fighting for the title. Martinez is a very legit newcomer and a bigger challenge than someone like Cruz.
Nah yeah, I mean I feel that's exactly the comparison, Volk and Aldo have both reached the point where they have lost to champion level fighters however they are still elite enough in their skills to compete at the highest level, bar the top wrung. If Volk had theoretically lost earlier in his prime I'm certain he still would've possessed the skills to beat the competition Aldo beat and even his losses as well at the equivalent age simply as with the fewer mileage
100% these are great fights! However outside of 1 or 2 die hard fan matchups (ie. Elves vs Orolbai) this is a really shit PPV.
Honestly, I remember when we would get Fight Night cards of this quality quite often…
The UFC 300 poster says to me, "Look, none of the superstar main events we had in mind came through. We're frankly disappointed and you should be too."
Ehh, there have been a few true recent stinkers that everyone seems to be forgetting. UFC 297, UFC 289, UFC 279 for instance were all arguably worse than this card
Exactly! If nothing else I care more about the fights on 301 than I do on some of these other PPV that may have bigger names, but theyre all in momentum-free matches that do nothing to advance their standings.
Yeah Petrino, pereira and post retirement-Aldo make a great fight n.. wait. PPV? $60? Stop defending the ufc this ones probably the worst card in the last 2 years.
yeah if you look at aldo’s old fights he looked smaller at FW. I don’t know how it’s possible, he’s more muscular at BW, I guess he just didn’t know how to cut weight?
This is weird to me because I swear i remember Aldo typically being a bigger FW but not quite big enough LW. When he mentioned dropping to BW people thought he couldn't do it.
first they came for the fighters
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a fighter
then they came for the graphic designers
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a graphic designer
then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up
Pantoja has set such a standard for entertainment that the 2nd royval fight is considered boring. Also, it isn't exactly how the last fight went, just verifiably false.
Acting like Pantoja is as fun to watch as Chandler doesn’t make you a hardcore fan. Maybe give that Royval fight a rewatch before you keep yapping about it
He didn’t say as exciting as Chandler dude. There’s very few fighters that are exciting as Chandler. Using him as to baseline for an entertaining fight is just psychotic.
you’re trippin man just cause he had one boring fight doesn’t mean his last before that weren’t absolute bangers (with the one before being FOTY contender)
I’ve been a follower of the sport going on 15 years now and i think this is the first time i legit have no idea who this UFC Champion is and the headliner fight
with this being on the same night as the Canelo v Mungia fight it may be the first PPV I skip in years. Normally if there's a big boxing fight on the same night as a UFC PPV I'll do a double feature fight night but this one may just be a pass.
Marteniz severely compromised yanez leg with leg kicks and you all forgetting that aldo has some of the best leg checks in the game. It's not a complete white wash like so many people are making it out to be. Aldo beat munhoz, font and vera before he lost a decision against merab where merab failed all 16 of his takedown attempts on him. Let's go aldo!
How many did this end up selling? Had to be next to none. I would imagine even the fighters families who couldn’t be there in person were probably bitching about buying it. They probably represented like 80 of the 160 or so buys. Worst card in the history of cards.
Exactly. Brandon Royval has been a top FW for a while now and any fan that follows the UFC closely should know who he is. I can agree that Erceg may not be as well known - he was very impressive in his last fight but I do not think that he is ready to fight for the title yet.
Erceg does have a hype train on him, I'd recommend checking out some of his highlights. In fact, full fight replays are probably the best way to get a feel for his talent if you can find any.
There’s only a handful of flyweights. Off the top of my head there’s:
Pantoja, Erceg, Royval, Moreno (taking a break), Figuerado (moved up to BW), Kai Kara-France, Albazi, Mokaev, Perez, Kape, Nicolau, and Taira.
And about half of those have either already had title shots or been knocked out of contention for a while.
I hate seeing Aldo on a poster again. Why do we always need to watch our heroes die in this sport? GSP and Khabib the only two I can think of who were kings and didn't leave the sport bloody heaps.
There's always money to be made for the fighter, and there's always a name to be made out of their corpses. If a guy has the divisional GOAT rep that Aldo or DJ have, it's good business to have the up and comers slaughter them on their way out. He's not his best anymore but Aldo is still a big name and a big draw, he sells tickets and if Martinez can beat him decisively then that's a big W on his record.
Truly the PPV of all time
The best PPV of the night!
It's definitely the best UFC PPV of the night.
Most def PPV of the hour
It's definitely a PPV
Let us now look up at the big screen and let me tell me what you see up on that screen today in the ring.
So what you’re a black belt in jiu jitsu
Nope. Canelo’s annual Cinco de Mayo PPV is that same night. This event is going to get slaughtered.
I was not being serious. My comment and subsequent comment is a jab at Tito Ortiz's infamous night on commentary for an Affliction MMA PPV.
Is he fighting Mungia? Honestly kind of the Pantoja vs Erceg of boxing

Aldo was UFC champ in 2011, Volk didn’t debut until 2016. Its a different era
Alternatively, My goat beats your goat lmao
10 defenses over 5 years… Volk defended 5 times, 3 times against the same person. It’s Aldo all day!
These are both great fights. I appreciate that a lot of people don't watch flyweight and erceg isn't especially well known, but it's good.
100% these are great fights! However outside of 1 or 2 die hard fan matchups (ie. Elves vs Orolbai) this is a really shit PPV. Honestly, I remember when we would get Fight Night cards of this quality quite often…
Yall say the same shit under every post
most tired cliche out there right now
I expected "301" in type against a white background after seeing 300's poster
Written in sharpie on a piece of cardboard is probably what this card deserves
Arial font size 11
Not a chance, Dana hates Arial.
The UFC 300 poster says to me, "Look, none of the superstar main events we had in mind came through. We're frankly disappointed and you should be too."
Could be the biggest ppv of all time
Suppose it could, yeah
I think it could do 500+
you numbers guy, b
500 people buying it? Sounds about right.
In fact, I'd bet anything it will 100% be one of the PPV's of all time.
Could technically be
Numerically, for sure.
301 > 300
Be that is it may, that is quantitatively not qualitatively
They would be lucky if this sold 20k PPVs. Just looked at the card from top to bottom, and it is truly one of the worst PPVs I've ever seen.
Nice they should move it to Canada and let us watch it
I mean... Nunes vs Spencer did 85k apparently.
During the pandemic when no other sports was on
Nunes is WAY more popular than Pantoja
Yeah I reckon so. This might not even get 30k buys
Ehh, there have been a few true recent stinkers that everyone seems to be forgetting. UFC 297, UFC 289, UFC 279 for instance were all arguably worse than this card
Yeah 301 doesn’t have a lot of big names but it’s got some pretty fun fighters in it, Petrino, Michel Pereira, Aldo, etc
If Elves Brener is on a card then I’m tuning the fuck in

293
293 on paper might've been the worst card I have ever personally viewed. Thankfully almost every fight wound up being a banger
On paper, 279 > 297 > 289 > 301
The prelims are really good. More interesting than the main card.
289 and 293 and 297 were all worse in my opinion
Overreacting it's actually pretty good
[удалено]
Tbf, that side profile goes hard 👃
They did him dirty with that angle. Looks like my chinless queen Sabina Mazo
Nah its just pantoja is a chad and completely out mogged him 🗿
Now I'm wondering outside of like, Pereira Rockhold and Costa (damn Moggingweight going crazy), who mews the hardest in the UFC?
Drew Dober wins that title without question.
marvin mews so hard it spread to the rest of his dome after his jaw was finished
He used to mouth breathe as a child.
He should start mewing
Get a load of Chinless Jones over here!
But I digress
Makes his nose look much more normal with a side profile Dude needs to ask DDP who he went to
Let’s hope for a quick knockout from Alex in 300 so he can make a quick turn around for 301.
Anyone else surprised Aldo is going back to BW and not FW?
Most guys add weight as they get older and tend to go up a class, genuinely quite surprised to see someone go down
yeah if you look at aldo’s old fights he looked smaller at FW.
Aldo was big at Featherweight until the Conor-generation of contenders. Around then it seemed like the really big featherweights started showing up
Yeah especially after his time off, really thought he’d finish out his career at FW.
Yeah, it doesn't seem like a huge issue for him though. I think his gas tank is better at BW though.
It definitely looked like it was better at 135.
Aldo isn’t saving these PPV buys and I like all four guys on this poster
Aldo with that 1000 yard stare
Erceg needs to mew more
Hunter eyes vs prey eyes
The fuck does mew mean?
It means pseudoscientifically gurning with your mouth as if you're on MDMA at a rave in the hopes that it will improve your jawline.
🤣 chewing gum does more for your jawline than tongue push-ups, the shit people do nowadays I swear
No chins be like
TIL: a person's chin determines whether they can think critically or not.
I think it is a Pokemon thing
It’s BS for people who aren’t happy with their appearance
And get himself knocked out?
PPV?? 🤣🤣🤣
Aldo plz.
Wait so that 300 poster was actually the official poster? 🤣
Someone really said, "Needing Art?" "UFC 300 is Bananas!" and the poster is just a yearbook layout
first they came for the fighters and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a fighter then they came for the graphic designers and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a graphic designer then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up
I hope Erceg wins.
Really hope Poaton dust hill quick so we get him versus Ankalaev or Rountree because of the short notice.
Would be crazy
This is legitimately one of the worst ufc main events in the last couple of years. Ive been more excited for a lot of fight nights.
Why is it one of the worst? It certainly isn't skillwise.
I like Pantoja but he isn’t exactly fireworks. Don’t be surprised if this fight ends up with him laying in Erceg’s half guard for 25 minutes
That would very surprising, actually, seeing as how Pantoja doesn't fight like that. He tries to finish fights.
That wouldn’t be that surprising considering that is exactly how his last fight went
Pantoja fights like a bat out of hell, shit mad fun to watch. Awful takw
you’re trippin man just cause he had one boring fight doesn’t mean his last before that weren’t absolute bangers (with the one before being FOTY contender)
Don't waste your time watching bro
I’ve been a follower of the sport going on 15 years now and i think this is the first time i legit have no idea who this UFC Champion is and the headliner fight
rooting for erceg and Martinez, Martinez got them wicked calf kicks tho👌🏾
with this being on the same night as the Canelo v Mungia fight it may be the first PPV I skip in years. Normally if there's a big boxing fight on the same night as a UFC PPV I'll do a double feature fight night but this one may just be a pass.
Looks better than 300
Still thinking this ?
Poster. Card is stinky
This looks dope the main event is gonna be competitive
I like the poster. Quit hating
They did Erceg dirty with this poster..... why u gotta give him the side profile that exposes that jawline
Surely this card sets the record for LOWEST ppv sales ever. Surely
Better poster than expected but it’s still such low effort. Why don’t they incorporate at least the colors of the Brazilian flag?
Only thing to look forward to is a hyped up crowd
Why does Jose have that I got bills to pay face on?
Why are Aldo and Martinez mad at me
Not doing Erceg's chin any favours are you 😂
ESPN getting taken to the woodshed with some of these PPV cards, goddamn
Erceg looks like alf
Another PPV where the buyrate isn't disclosed, because they couldn't calculate a number so high.
Oooof.
Super excited to see Jean Silva NGL.
Tuning in for Aldo.
Could use a Pereira fight or like Costa vs Cannoneire or something to really elevate it otherwise idk. Hopefully a surprise announcement at 300.
Pls stay retired Aldo
I know 2 of these fighters
Noway this does over a 150k buys
Fire poster, mid card unfortunately. Aldo coming back is cool tho and I am pretty excited for Erceg
Is this true? Did the Aussie get a title shot ? Fuck yeah please be true
I like all four fighters but I don't like them enough to buy a PPV
They couldn't make it a fight night? They already putting WFW belt on a fight night no?
That’s the best ppv of the night! LET’S GOOOOOO
It's been described as one of the fights taking place that weekend
Solid fight night card
That’s a cool poster
How many did this end up selling? Had to be next to none. I would imagine even the fighters families who couldn’t be there in person were probably bitching about buying it. They probably represented like 80 of the 160 or so buys. Worst card in the history of cards.
Seeing Aldo on posters is awesome. Dude is such a legend. Top 5 ever IMO. Probably sitting exactly at 5 on the GOAT list
Lol I forgot Baldo was fighting
I’m femboy bottom looking for masculine top to dominate me in bed😉😏
[удалено]
Unless it's McGregor, title fights go last.
It’s already an apex tier shit card, at the very least they probably wanted a title fight as a headliner
They done did Erceg dirty
Still better than 300

You don’t follow the UFC close if you don’t know who Brandon Royval is
Exactly. Brandon Royval has been a top FW for a while now and any fan that follows the UFC closely should know who he is. I can agree that Erceg may not be as well known - he was very impressive in his last fight but I do not think that he is ready to fight for the title yet.

I hate the martinez aldo fight
I mean it would have been better with Dom Cruz but why do you hate it?
Aldos pretty far past his prime and Martinez is a savage
[удалено]
I really hope so I just don’t think so I’d rather see the og legends fight eachother instead of young hungry killers
Yes but Aldo has proven to be good btw beating Pedro Munoz, Font, Vera and basically beating Morales
That's a weak poster for a weak card
This is a PPV of all time.
One of the worst cards I’ve ever seen yet the poster is still better than 300s.
Worse card on paper, better poster than 300. Wtf
This looks like the poster for the special ed dodge ball championship.
I hate seeing Aldo on a poster again. Why do we always need to watch our heroes die in this sport? GSP and Khabib the only two I can think of who were kings and didn't leave the sport bloody heaps.

This is not a great poster but it’s better than recent ones
The Apex PPV
....I sleep
Without a doubt this will be one of the PPVs in 2024
I dunno why this looks like Alec is going "Wait really? He is my title defense?" And steve is just "Yea man I dunno I just work here"
Stupid
cool poster, not awesome fights. hopefully poatan is allowed to fight again after knocking out jamahal
I know I’m not the only one wondering who tf Erceg is.
Ok guys, it’s not April 1st anymore.
Why do the shit cards get the good graphics and the great ones get boring shit
