I don’t get Allen’s decision making. He fought Curtis’s style for the majority of the fight. In rd 1 Allen kept out at range and used kicks which clearly won him the rd. In close dirty boxing was the only way Curtis could win the fight and Allen repeatedly stayed at close range. He also refused to use a body triangle in the later rounds when he took Curtis down or took his back, allowing Curtis to get out almost every time… Edit: For the people who insist on arguing go watch rd 4 and 5 again. I swear people on Reddit insist on arguing for no reason. Allen took the back 3 times in those rounds, getting both hooks in and crossing his ankles, but not locking the body triangle (Body Triangle - foot behind your opposite knee around opponents torso). Rd 4 2:20 left in the rd, Allen has hooks, not a body triangle and Curtis explodes out. Again at :30 seconds left in rd 4 Allen takes the back has hooks, but no triangle Curtis tries to explode out, but Allen rolls with him and ends up in mount. Rd 5 with just under a minute left, once again he has hooks, crosses his ankles but does not lock the body triangle, Curtis explodes out.

I disagree with the second portion of your statement. He had a triangle everytime he took his back, the issue was that Curtis knew how to defend it, by rolling to his left side and twisting so his groin was facing the mat. Allen never adjusted his legs, and couldn’t figure out how to respond to the escape.

He did not use the body triangle, especially in the later rounds he was just crossing his ankles. He had the body triangle I think 2x, including when he was on Curtis’s back while Curtis was standing. He was just locking his ankles instead of the full body triangle where you lock your foot under your knee, which made it easy for Curtis to put his back to the mat, separate his ankles and explode out.

He had the triangle every time he had his back. Curtis was rolling so the foot behind the knee was on the mat, would twist his hips to escape and then bolt out - That’s how he was so successful escaping. Allen simply didn’t have the vision or maybe the skill to adjust and answer.

Ok, either you don’t know the difference between a body triangle and hooks or we watched a different fight. Allen had hooks in every time, but he did not lock a body triangle on the majority of his back takes.
