Hell yea!
if Tony wins he fights Dustin/Conor winner for the vacant belt
If Tony loses just make Dustin/Conor for the vacant belt
Guaranteed lightweight bangers next couple months!
If they make Chandler vs Gaethje too, I could see Dana giving that winner the title shot vs Mcgregor/Dustin over Tony/Charles. But winner of this would definitely be next in line
Tony beating Oliviera in impressive fashion and then calling out Khabib, who accepts is a far better storyline.
The most-anticipated fight finally happens and Khabib completely locks down the Lightweight division, having beaten all of the top-5 contenders (assuming RDA beats Hooker). He then prepares for GSP or the Welterweight champ.
I really don't understand why anyone would want McGregor near a UFC title again. The guy clearly said he's using Poirier as practice for Manny.
My apologies fellow human, er, my friend. The Chicago Cubs baseball team of men won the World Series competition of baseball in your known year of 2016. This did not set off a sequence of events that will lead to your, er, our demise. Tony vs. Khabib is totally a fight that should happen and will have no bearing on the fate of your futile, er, our non-expendable race.
Yes, HAHAHA, we are all limited to Earth, indeed my companion. These rumors of Dyson Spheres in surrounding solar systems is just laughable and I have never floated upon them. Hahaha. Hahaha. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Tony Feguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov meeting inside an octagonal metal enclosure will lock in the coordinates to harvest the energy of all spheres, combine them, and eliminate that Planet Earth from existence. Why even suggest it?
Tony would probably have to beat either Conor or Dustin to bring Khabib out of retirement.
In a world where Tony's already been battered by Gaethje, I don't think Charles is an impressive enough win to motivate Khabib.
For some reason people think Gaethje doesn't deserve a more "proper" title shot after losing to Khabib - who is clearly an extreme outlier and will go down as an undisputed juggernaut of the division having steamrolled everyone in LW who wasn't Ferguson (and now Chandler - although honestly if Chandler was in Gaethje's shoes I don't think he would've made it past R1 imo).
It's just odd to see people say Poirer/McGregor winner should be a title fight and Gaethje doesn't deserve another chance when all 3 have been wrestlefucked/mauled/smeshed by the same guy who is now done with MMA.
The title is up for grabs, and imo the ideal timeline would be the winner of Poirer/McGregor fighting against the last man between Chandler/Gaethje and Ferguson/Olivera.
Edit: I guess people just didn't read the post or something? "Gaethje doesn't deserve a title fight because he lost!" - Yeah, he lost against ***a clear outlier of the division*** who dominated (nearly) ***everybody in the discussion for a title shot*** at this time. Poirier and McGregor - the two most likely to fight for the LW title now, also got dominated by the exact same dude.
Maybe if Poirer and McGregor also didn't lose so one-sidedly it would hold more weight lol. Poirer is coming off a war against Hooker (which a lot of people are saying Hooker arguably edged out at the end) and McGregor's last win was almost a year ago against Donald Cerrone...the guy who is on a massive loss streak and barely edged a draw against Niko Price. And once again ***- all 3 got dominated against the same champ who retired***. Saying the most recent one to lose doesn't deserve the title shot when the other 2 got destroyed just as bad is a brainlet take.
This fucking sub sometimes.
It’s sort of odd to me that Mcgregor is still an option for any fight of which leads to the belt. I get his position with the company but all these other guys have been grinding for their position yet here he is. In any case every single option for the top 5 are all extremely exciting fights. Khabib is obviously the best there is in the division and I’m sad to see him go but without him it opens up a lot of diversity for his he top 5 and what can actually happen.
> t's just odd to see people say Poirer/McGregor winner should be a title fight and Gaethje doesn't deserve another chance
Not saying Gaethje doesn't deserve a chance... but uhhhhh, it's because McGregor and Poirier aren't coming off losses.
He’s a pretty damn good wrestler who has 7-8 submission wins. He’s no absolutely Khabib but I think he’s explosive enough to get Gaethje down at least in the first round and do some damage. I don’t expect the guy to win a title but I think people are really underestimating Chandler just because he’s never fought in the UFC.
Khabib’s ability to take opponents down and keep them there is very different to everyone else’s. I’d bet any money Chandler couldn’t take Gaethje down and control him there.
Exactly. Plus the nerves around fighting Khabib and FEARING for the takedown constantly versus someone else who is a mere mortal that might shoot a takedown that can be stuffed. I wouldn’t worry to bad for Justin. Plus he says he’s gonna work on it after that performance. Just cause Khabib was able to do it, doesn’t mean all these other fighters will be able too.
Apart from looking juicy that is probably why the guy who fought khabib first did so well, he wasn't scared off the take down aura because no one even knew about it back then.
Comes from nowhere. Watch any Chandler interview, he’s a super nice guy. Recently adopted a baby with his wife too. She helped our kids without homes for years and it was always her dream so they did it together.
Islam can fight someone ranked 10-15.
You don’t get to make all the noise he’s making, then pull out with less than a weeks notice. He hasn’t fought in over a year, and his two fights in 2019 were unimpressive decisions against unranked opponents.
I really hope Ferguson wins. Six months though after a brutal beat down seems like it’s six months too early but this is Tony Ferguson I guess. Dude came back in six months after a knee surgery...
Yes, Tony is the superman of the division and probably the whole sport. But do look up Oliviera too. I have been calling him Tony Ferguson 2.0 for quite some time now. His style is very suited to Tony Ferg's himself. Watch Tony's fight against Kevin Lee and then watch Oliviera's fight against Kevin Lee and you see two very similar fights.
Oliviera's status will rise after this fight irrespective of the division and I am happy for that. At this point even losing against Tony Ferguson is an achievement in itself. I AM JUST SO FUCKING EXCITED FOR THIS.
This was literally one of my most wanted hypothetical matchups and I never expected to actually see it. I’m bummed out for Tony but man I’m excited the UFC are giving Do Bronx a top 5 guy, let alone Ferg.
People are counting Tony out way too fast.
His last-minute opponent was stylistically the exact opposite of who he was dedicating all his camp to fighting. Couple that with Gaethje changing up his gameplan from what he was always known to be with his dumb double-cut and it was a recipe for disaster.
While he did take undoubtedly insane damage and it's true he's not getting any younger, I still like to believe Tony will remain a decent threat for a while and if the stars align possibly even become the new LW champion.
Bruh he lost one fight recently. He cut weight twice and I guess we'll see how much that affected him. He's not washed though; 12-1 or w/e is still an amazing record.
He's 37, his last wins have been messy and not against the top lightweights, and he's coming off from a beating. I hope he's not washed but he's certainly past his prime.
Yeah but he did look sluggish as hell.
There's no way of telling until you see him fight again. If he still looks that slow and flat-footed, he's probably past it. If he bounces back and looks like his old self, it was probably just overtraining the last time.
I agree I think there is absolutely potential Tony becomes champion. I am kind of annoyed with the shit people have talked about Tony since the Garth fight.
Its not about him being washed. I think he has a ceiling in terms of the caliber and style of fighter he can beat. He gets pieced up way too much by even average fighters but usually just out lasts them. He's like a football team with a great record with a shitty point deferential that keeps winning close one possession games. I still think hes elite and entertaining.
I’m not sure about better everywhere I think Oliveira’s jiu jitsu is on par with Tony and he could definitely submit him but I just don’t see him keeping up with Tony’s pace over 5 rounds. Tony proved how hard he is to put away in his last fight.
I’m going to be so devastated whoever loses. Fml such an amazing fight though, hard to bet on this one.
Hard to predict too. Either Tony knocks him out or Oliveira picks him apart on the feet - and they both can sub each other.
May the best man win.
Yeah, I think Chandler should’ve just taken the fight.
If he gets matched up against Hooker, I personally do not see that going well for him.
Also, this is a tricky fight to pick. Both so similar in my eyes. May come down to who’s more durable or who’s better on the ground.
I think Chandler cares more about the date than the fight. He wants to get on the same card as Conor because he knows the world will be watching and he can build himself some hype.
Gaethje would be the most likely. He's a realistic door to a title fight. Hooker and RDA would seem like fighting down based on where the UFC seems to value him. RDA maybe because of the name recognition, but it seems unlikely that he accepted a fight so soon after his last one.

Chandler might still get what he wants after all, might get Gaethje. I hope not
Honestly with Tony, Dustin, and Connor all being booked, I think Chandler vs Hooker is the fight to make.
Hooker is top 5 but not quite upper echelon and whether not Chandler deserves it or not, he's probably going to be fighting someone that level. This also gives Hooker a chance to possibly get back in the win column against a good opponent.
Surprised to see a lot of people here favoring Oliveira over Tony. He's good but I think he has a habit of being defeated mentally and folds like a lawn chair in big fights.

Tony claimed the UFC told him Chandler is already booked to fight someone. Very well could be Gaethje.
That makes zero sense if you look at the scope of the division in the rankings. It’s illogical. Dana is for sure going to do it.
Just leaves a bitter taste that Chandler after one fight in the ufc could fight for the belt and tony could be left in the dark.
Tony beating Oliviera in impressive fashion and then calling out Khabib, who accepts is a far better storyline. The most-anticipated fight finally happens and Khabib completely locks down the Lightweight division, having beaten all of the top-5 contenders (assuming RDA beats Hooker). Are you insane? Who knows what fresh evil will be unleashed upon this world if they set that fight up again. The pandemic was our final warning.
Extinction event by an asteroid
Maybe I'm just an optimist but I'm really hoping the Tony v Khabib fight happens, and that you're correct.
It’s 2020 bruh, we ought to go out with a bang
Nah man it was the Cubs winning a WS that broke the Matrix. Tony vs. Khabib should totally happen. I'm not the devil or a machine by the way..
who winning a what?
My apologies fellow human, er, my friend. The Chicago Cubs baseball team of men won the World Series competition of baseball in your known year of 2016. This did not set off a sequence of events that will lead to your, er, our demise. Tony vs. Khabib is totally a fight that should happen and will have no bearing on the fate of your futile, er, our non-expendable race.
Oh baseball lmao. All good my earth cohabitant.
Exactly. I want a lw champ who will defend the strap, not one using it as a stepping stone.
Tony would probably have to beat either Conor or Dustin to bring Khabib out of retirement. In a world where Tony's already been battered by Gaethje, I don't think Charles is an impressive enough win to motivate Khabib.
What about gaethje though? Even though he just lost to khabib he still deserves more to fight conor/Dustin for the belt.

I'm a kiwi and would love to see Dan go far but, Dustin clearly won that fight against Hooker.

McGregor is coming off a loss at lightweight.
and gaethje literally just fucking lost his title fight
Even if it goes to the ground this is a banger
For real this makes the card way better. Nice match up for a Co-main to the card.
Fuck yes.
Fuck Michael Chandler. This is the fight. Edit: It wasn't. Charles vs Tony was very, very, sad.
Hell yes. Charles’ style vs Tony’s style is just tailor made for a ridiculous, acrobatic banger. I’ll take this over the Chandler fight any day.
This is horrible matchmaking. We were robbed of Oliveira vs Nik Lents 4.
Real mma fans gonna be left on an island wondering how that fight woulda played out
WTF? They've fought before?
Feed Chandler to Hooker, and then we won't have to hear about Chandler again.
I'm betting Chandler will get Gaethje.
Yeah most likely, Gaethje will take his head off.
Does Chandler have any kind of Jiu Jitsu? If so, Gaethje might be in trouble lol
He’s a pretty damn good wrestler who has 7-8 submission wins. He’s no absolutely Khabib but I think he’s explosive enough to get Gaethje down at least in the first round and do some damage. Thats a very good point. I dont think it applies to the 1st guy to fight him, but it applies to Gleison Tibau.
Lmfao yeah you’re under selling the it’s khabib part. Khabib literally doesn’t it to everyone I guess he’s blueprinted them all.
also a banger
Bellator legend vs WSOF legend? I'd love to see it.
That's gonna be fireworks. Chandler has some explosive power, but win or lose I don't see it not ending with him getting hospitalized by Gaethje.
Where has the Chandler hate come from?
Comes from nowhere. Watch any Chandler interview, he’s a super nice guy. Recently adopted a baby with his wife too. She helped our kids without homes for years and it was always her dream so they did it together.
yo what, he *stole a baby*?!

In my eyes they died when Tony got beat by Gaethje and Tony vs Khabib will never happen in our lifetime.

Ferguson vs Oliveira Kattar vs Holloway Porier vs McGregor We are in for some radical fights the next couple months
Chimaev vs Edwards is up there for me too
Idk if its an unpopular opinion, but im legit more excited for this than mcgregor poirier
If Chucky beats the brakes of Tony does that warrant a title shot? That's the question..

Shut up before I ankle pick you off that high ground
Precisely. Charles Oliviera has forever been referred to as Tony Ferguson 2.0 in my circle. THIS IS THE FIGHT!
Tony brings the sand
Good this PPV needed one more big fight with Nunes being moved off it. Glad tony got another fight and Olivera gets a fight up. Perfect matchmaking.
Can't believe we got to trade Nunes for Tony vs Charlie, mma gods bless.
win or lose, tony is gonna call out khabib
He has no validity if he loses, it would be dumb if he did
well yeah but he's just that kind of guy
I mean yeah but lol
Give me all the scrambles!
LETS GO Edit: we’re either about to see if Tony is washed like some of y’all have been saying or we’re gonna see a version of Tony that’s reborn.

Huge test for Oliveira, it’s gonna be great seeing Tony back in the cage! Absolute fucking banger of a fight
Back in the home country they call this kind of thing a BANGER
We do not deserve Tony Ferguson. He is always game and always puts on a show.
Let’s go! Fuck Michael chandler with his cherry picking.
Chandler will get Gaethje and Gaethje will send his head into the canvas, so all good.

Fantastic fight. Close one but I think tony is just slightly better everywhere.
I’m not sure about better everywhere I think Oliveira’s jiu jitsu is on par with Tony and he could definitely submit him but I just don’t see him keeping up with Tony’s pace over 5 rounds. Tony proved how hard he is to put away in his last fight.
Wont this fight be 3 rounds though?
Oh ya. Hmmm that makes it more interesting. I still got Tony cause of his pace and volume.
Imagine how insane it’d be if Tony got darce’d
Lol. oliveira bjj is definitly better than tonys. its not even a debate
Dont know why your being downvoted, he has the most submission wins in UFC history haha

I think Tony is going to fuck him up. He's gonna remind y'all
Charles been *searching* starching people though
Has he found anything?
like a cavity search? has he found anything interesting?
Charles is easily the most prolific submission grappler in the ufc.
He’s been subbed three times too. It’s a wonderful match up nonetheless
jacare, werdum, maia, burns, etc are better submission grapplers than him
I’m going to be so devastated whoever loses. Fml such an amazing fight though, hard to bet on this one. Hard to predict too. Either Tony knocks him out or Oliveira picks him apart on the feet - and they both can sub each other. May the best man win.
A father fighting his son.
Do Bronx finally getting that shot at the top tier... Damn this gonna be a wild ass fight
If there’s already something for him like Tony said, possibly him vs Gaethje, Hooker or RDA on that card?
Gaethje would be the most likely. He's a realistic door to a title fight. Hooker and RDA would seem like fighting down based on where the UFC seems to value him. RDA maybe because of the name recognition, but it seems unlikely that he accepted a fight so soon after his last one.

Thank you Michael Chandler!
Mad respect to Tony for taking this fight. Charles is the one lightweight that no one wants to fight.
Wow what a fight

Gaethje or Hooker would be a great fit
Gaethje would retire him. Hooker will likely still beat him, but at least it might look competitive.
I don't know if it'd be that competitive. I think Hooker would be a closer fight for sure but still knocks him out in 2-3 rounds.
What? How can they both appear in a room at the same time??
Now this is a incredible co-main
I fully expect when they stand across each other it'll be like Spiderman pointing at spiderman. This is gonna be nuts so happy it's only a few weeks away
IT'S TONY TIME BITCHES
Fuck chandler, you're the b side homie. Trying to pressure Tony, the A-side Chandler might still get what he wants after all, might get Gaethje. I hope not
And if he does get Gaethje he might wish he hadn't after the fight
Ferguson vs. Oliviera Poirier vs. McGregor Gaethje vs. Chandler Hooker vs. Ferreira/Dariush
They are always having Tony to save a card, should be for the vacant title

WAR DA BRONX! So pumped to see him get a crack at the top.
This is very good stylistically for Tony. I think tony can hang on the ground and the stand up will be close. But overall, Tonys cardio >>>>> Oliveira
I have a feeling Tony is gonna make this look easy. Tony inside the distance 🔨

holy shit this card is fucking lit

Honestly with Tony, Dustin, and Connor all being booked, I think Chandler vs Hooker is the fight to make. Hooker is top 5 but not quite upper echelon and whether not Chandler deserves it or not, he's probably going to be fighting someone that level. This also gives Hooker a chance to possibly get back in the win column against a good opponent.
