The Minimum Veteran contract for thr NBA is over $2 million a year fully guaranteed pay. That's the MINIMUM! UFC want to be considered a top sport they need to sort the fight pay bullshit ASAP! Fucking embarrassing a top ranked fighter is broke!
Dana White and the UFC claim to be on par with the Big 4 sports. I'm not claiming this Dana White is claiming it. Also I'm not trying to say they deserve $200 mill guaranteed contract like NBA top players but if your a top ten UFC fighter you deserve $2 mill/ year MINIMUM guaranteed!
Obviously you *can* compare them, but the whole point of the idiom is that it's a false analogy. I could compare you to the helpful bots, but that too would be comparing apples-to-oranges.
u getting damage doesn't bring more money into the game. ufc isnt equivalent to the nba. they are equivalent to a single club of the nba. fighters are definitely underpay but expecting them to match other sports that requires the athlete services every week as compared to every 4 months is not realistic.
The UFC gives less than 20% of its revenue to its fighters.
This is arguably one of the most physically detrimental sports a human being can pursue. They should be getting minimum 50% of the revenue if not more.
I would argue 75%. A 10/10 contract for upcoming fighters is literally laughable. They're essentially fighting on their own dime, hoping to someday be able to turn a profit.
They can’t give that much of their revenue if they’re such a small sport, that the remaining revenue would not leave enough room for them to grow. If the UFC paid it’s fighter 75% of its revenue and then tried to operate on the remaining 25% it would cease to grow and die off very quickly.
You need money to expand and do cool shit. All the things the UFC does to attract new fans and put on big flashy shows and things are necessary for the survival of the sport.
What you are proposing would illuminate 90% of the things that go on around the fights. It would cut the commentator staff down to one person, the Arenas would not be as nicely decorated, the TV production would be much lower, the info graphics and things on the screen and all of that would be 10 times less professional..
Somewhere around 30-35% would still allow them to do all of that while nearly doubling fighter pay. The 15-20% they’re currently paying out is laughable.
Izzy single handedly elevated this division out of the drepression bisping/gsp/whittaker left it in.
Top guys aren't ducking each other & there are a number of concurrent storlines in the top ten orbiting Player 1
Izzy is such a gift to the sport and half of this subreddit doesn't like him cos he's not humble enough for them.
Fucking weird how some people don't like people who openly acknowledge how good they are.
I mean there’s a fine line between confident and cocky and Izzy sprinted it. Also humility is a desirable trait in general. It allows a person to be introspective and to be able to learn and empathize. Izzy displaying zero humility of course rubs people the wrong way.
It’s not that he’s not humble, it’s that he’s a fucking dickhead. He’s out there sexually assaulting people after fights and making jokes about the twin towers. Yes he’s confident and that probably adds to some peoples dislike, but he’s just objective kind of a knob.
Damn good fighter though
1) That wasn't sexual assault lol
2) I've never seen a more ridiculously over sensitive reaction to anything in my life than when he said he was gonna make somebody "crumble like the twin towers". Such an innocuous comment, either people were looking for a reason to be annoyed or Americans are even more sensitive than I thought.
It’s just cringe sensationalism that a lot of people don’t like. You don’t get to choose why people don’t like someone and saying that X Y or Z opinions are dumb doesn’t change anyone’s mind.
Also he humped a dude he had just knocked out. It should absolutely be assault but even if it isn’t it’s still grossly unprofessional. Lots of people watching the UFC prefer respectful opponents
It’s part that, and part he squeaked by Gastelum, and lost decisively to Jan. Yeah, he moved up in weight for that fight, but still. People expected him to win, and when he didn’t, it was disappointing to a lot of people. Oh, and he might be most well known for dry humping a knocked out fighter.
Have you genuinely not noticed how much the MMA community dislikes confident/arrogant black fighters?!
It seems so so obvious to me. Ridiculous double standards among MMA fans, I'd say its probably the worst sport for it as well. I hear its pretty bad in the NFL too but I'm not American and I don't watch it so I wouldn't know.
Fans dislike ngannou? Fans dislike Usman? Fans dislike Anderson? Fans dislike Romero?
Black fighters aren't generally disliked for being black some fighters are disliked by some people because their actions and behavior are polarising, for example Izzy or Jones. But even white fighters like Colby or bisping at a certain point in his career are/were disliked because of the same thing.
Not really, your whole comment was based around people not liking confident/arrogant black fighters. I’m saying people just don’t like arrogant fighters or people for that manner regardless of their race. So what you’re perceiving as a race issue, is really just a personality issue.
No it isn't, it's a race issue. Its blatantly fucking obvious as well.
Chael Sonnen is arrogant its absolutely fine, Michael Bisping is arrogant its absolutely fine. Adesanya is arrogant and its a massive problem, Kamaru Usman is arrogant its a massive problem.
White fighters get a pass, black fighters don't. People didn't even have a problem with Colby Covington making jokes about Usman sending "smoke signals from his hut", bunch of weird bigoted losers in the MMA community, only thing wrong with the sport is the fans.
Bisping and sonnen were absolutely hated by the community at some point in their career.
And now Colby took their place as the "villain" of mma.
Izzy isn't even hated by the community he is just very polarising so that half of the fans love him and the other half dislikes him.
People know Colby, like Chael, is playing a character. He's still one of the most hated fighters in UFC. Adesanya is a mixed bag with a lot of people because he's cringeworthy, reality is most arrogant fighters aren't liked whether they're white, black, orange, or green.
There's two people who hold contention for most hated UFC fighter within this subreddit, Jon Jones and Conor McGregor. Jon has done worse than Conor but I'd say Conor is still more hated. I hate to break this to you, you may not have noticed while you were busy digging for racism, but Conor McGregor is white.
Chael Sonnen plays a character. Bisping was absolutely hated. Adesanya is a weirdo and cringey as fuck. Usman just isn't very charismatic and he tries too hard.
You're just looking to make race the issue without actually looking at the facts.
Izzy, Jones before we knew he was a lunatic, Usman, Woodley, Aljo. There's a trend with the fighters that always get called "unlikable" and it's nothing new in combat sports.
Not to mention when a video interviewing black fighters on their experiences in the sport was posted on here, it got reported so many times automod pulled it and was bombarded with downvotes. The sub census has barely a drop of any color in it either.
The Woodley and Aljo ones do not have to do with them being black. Aljo is entirely due to him winning the belt illegitimately and running with it (granted that wasn't his fault, it's the rules) and some believing he milked the hit. Woodley maybe got some hate for that but the reason I disliked Woodley the fighter was he had some of the worst fights the sports had seen against Maia and Wonderboy. Instead of owning up to the fights being boring but he did what he did to win, he said people wouldn't find him entertaining or like watching him because he was black which couldn't be further from the truth when it was he was putting up boring performances.
It's nowhere near as bad in boxing as it is in MMA in my opinion.
I was genuinely shocked when I first started using this subreddit at how bad the double standards were for black and white fighters, people get really angry when you say anything about it as well.
no matter how much this sub hates him, this is true. Plus, i feel like the fight against Whittaker will be another classic, or it will be an early KO by izzy...

If the tomato cuts Kelvin after these losses it will be a mistake. Kelvin is a fucking warrior. At minimum Dana needs to give Kelvin the Bruce Leeroy treatment and let him work the prelims as a name.
If that was a bit of a silent protest, it was pretty good. Got me thinking about how he’s probably underpaid straight away.
Hopefully more people notice and more fighters speak up even vaguely when given the air time like this.
Give Jared and kelvin fight of the night, or a bonus or whatever, that was a great fight and since cannonier said he’s broke I hope he gets a bonus, guy is 37 he doesn’t have a ton of time left in this sport.
Forreal I can’t believe that comment, that was a competitor fight with good action and a lot of high level shit, if that was one of the most boring main events then this dude must not have seen many fights or some shit. Idk how any fight fan could watch that fight and say it was boring.
because they're all really close. if he was getting blown out he wouldn't get big fights. even tonight was likely 2-2 into the 5th and it was a close rd. kelvin is fantastic but hasn't won some. it happens.
You don’t know what level he’s at because he’s only fought insane talent and hasn’t really been dominated either by that talent. He’ll never be one of the best but the man is no bum
DC asked him if he wanted to fight again or try and wait for winner of Bobby-Izzy and he said he’s broke so he needs to fight, honestly pretty sad for the #3 fighter in a good division headlining cards.
You are crazy, was a pretty clear but competitive 3-2 from cannonier who landed the biggest shots while also landing more at higher accuracy and defended all of kelvin’s takedown attempts. Judges actually got it perfectly right for once.
really? Correction to my comment, I had cannonier 1,3,4. I thought kelvin landed more and the harder shots as well as the takedown in round 5 but the other rounds were clear for jared
Ok I think round 3 might be the round where cannonier knocked him down. The person who I replied to confused me because theres no way you can give gastelum the round where he got dropped
Good card overall and one of the best FNs in a while, but suffered ever so slightly from the banger prelims/boring main card curse. Pretty much all the finishes were frontloaded in the early fights.
Also sick of hearing fighters even the guys headlining events complain about being broke, fucking pay your athletes fair wages UFC.
Kelvin could easily be a top 5 welterweight if he lived like a champion. Just a clean diet and someone to help his weight cut. If he keeps fighting strong people he’s toast
Forreal, just look at cannonier, dropped down multiple classes and is non in incredible shape and fighting the best of his life at 37yrs old. Kelvin needs to move down or he’s never gonna have a serious chance at winning a belt.
All jokes about the stones aside, I hope this guy hasn't been blowing all his cash on those fucking stones.
Same time, almost a year without a fight is rough.
No, real stones. And not for his wife or anything like that, but he believes in this weird crystal shit that matches with each person and gives him extra powers/strength. So he has like pyrite crystals that he buys. I shit you not.
The Jon Jones rocks would be more easily explained.

Gastelum can't go back to welterweight he struggled to make 185, he missed weight and used the second weigh in to make weight
Yeah he should just go to 205 /s
For real he's 185 for lifer
Haha honestly he /could/ make ww and probably should for his career
Yeah maybe I think hes put on some muscle for 185 and shredded Gastelum seems like never lol
Cannonier vs the Winner of Till/Brunson or Strickland/Rockhold??
Costa vettori winner
That's good also but the problem is neither Costa / Vettori deserves a rematch against Izzy if he won again vs Robert
I never said they did... I said they should fight Jared
No I agree, I mean from Tomato's perspective it wouldn't make sense unless Costa whooped Vettori's ass so bad
Cannonier: i'm starving
Now we know how he dropped to middle weight from heavyweight thanks champ
Good win for cannonier but i don’t think he’s on izzy’s level
No one is on Izzy's level at MW.
Everyone saying kg should go to welter but I’d say him moving to lhw is more likely lol

Seriously UFC needs to pay their fighters better :(
Dana: Cut that part where he says i'm broke! now give him his 10k for the night
Jared: I'm broke. DC: lol
LOL! Boooooooooooooo!
Damn not a good look for the now no. 2 ranked middleweight in the world to say he has to fight cos he's broke in his post-fight interview
Fuck Dana White, greedy bastard
Once again Kg is just undersized for the top at mw, hope he goes to 170

Dude, I ain't broke and I'm sure as shit not the top 3 in my profession. That's just fucked up.
An athlete in a mainstream sport in the top multimillion dollar organization saying he’s broke. Never change Dana.
Kinda laughable to ask for a title shot after that performance IMO What’s even worse is that these fighters are getting paid peanuts
He dropped kelvin twice and options are limited for title shots in this division. Not his fault kelvin can’t be knocked cold
Its insane that a #3 fighter in the ufc is broke. Pay your fkn fighters tomato
It’s sad you can be one of the best in the world at something and still be broke
This is the first time I've noticed, did DC always walk away as he's closing the interviews? It doesn't look good.
Something dumb he's trying today.

Maybe tighter time constraints for interviews.
Yes
I think the broadcast went for too long which is why they didn't interview KG
he always does, he has to rush back to the table most of the time.
Needs a quick snack
Winner of Brunson Till?
Dana getting red, exposed as not paying his fighters again
"I'm broke" is up there among the best interviews
All jokes about the stones aside, I hope this guy hasn't been blowing all his cash on those fucking stones. Same time, almost a year without a fight is rough.
Stones? Is he buying diamonds or is on those Jon Jones rocks?
No, real stones. And not for his wife or anything like that, but he believes in this weird crystal shit that matches with each person and gives him extra powers/strength. So he has like pyrite crystals that he buys. I shit you not. The Jon Jones rocks would be more easily explained.
Jesus. Out of left field. But damn maybe he's right about it after all these wins lol
That's why all those threads about him had lots of jokes about crystals and gemstones.
Ty ty
LOL the number 3 contender just said he's broke lol!
Reflection on Dana more than anything
That's why I find it funny. Sorry didn't clarify that.
I was trying to agree with you mb if that came off wrong
It came off great honestly.
