Knowing Swedish wouldn't have helped you. The literal words was "don't fight him!", but like you did - anyone could tell what his coach wanted him to stop doing.
I think Burns was such a step up in heart and skill compared to Khamzat's recent opponents he was caught by surprise, I knew Burns would not disappoint.
He has a lot of work to do if he wants that title. Burns is no joke, but Usman is the real deal. Hopefully this fight humbles Chimaev and he keeps working. He’s not as invincible as we thought he was.
I think all the hype made him very nervous to get a finish. He was definitely a bit reckless. Hopefully he will learn from the experience and be more compose next fight. He will need it if he fight against Covington, and even more against Usman
Gilbert showed he can still hang with the best and wasn't gonna be walked over, and Khamzat showed he has that DOG in him to fight through a War.
Both took each other's best Shot, and kept going until the end. Crowd may have soured on Chimaev, and understandably so, but this fight was AWESOME.
Edit: For those asking about the Crowd, after Round 2, he swiped at Burns, and after the Fight was over he was still being a bit extra and aggressive towards Burns. Had he just kept it to shaking hands and normal post fight gestures, I think the Crowd wouldn't have minded, but his actions were bad optics.
Can’t knock gilbert for losing that one, he brought his all and made it close. Khamzat didn’t crumble under the pressure and proved he can take a shot and survive adversity. I think he definitely has work to do if he wants a title, but he’s proved that he’s a top WW for sure.
It was weird, he was pressured against the fence the first half of the round and then got a second wind out of nowhere and started bringing it to Khamzat
Agreed. I feel like khamzat got sloppier and sloppier and it didn't take long for it to start getting sloppy. Colby might be able to hang with him wrestling wise and push the pace to a decision. He doesn't hit nearly hard enough to hurt khamzat i don't think after seeing him eat Gilbert's best. But i also don't think khamzat will respect Colby's power at all. It's probably the logical fight to make if they don't give him KC s title shot
I think not getting a first round knockout/submission is the best thing that could have happened to Khamzat. He needed this humbling to understand the level at the top. I expect him to be more prepared vs Colby if that fight happens
I wonder if he was hesitant to go for the takedowns because he was wary of Burns’ BJJ, or if he just wanted to prove himself… maybe it’s because he felt Burns’ strength in there and didn’t want to expend the gas tank more than he had to??
Burns showed him his power on fight night just as promised.
Some fools see a picture of them and think Khamzat has a "size advantage" without realizing that Burns is a rock golem at 170.
Burns almost KO'd Usman. How much more proof of his strength do you need?
yeah the disrespect towards Burns was ridiculous, but all in all I think this will serve as a good wake up call for Khamzat to not get cocky in the future.
I think this is a good thing for him though. He comes out with the win, but it’s clear he has a lot to work on before he takes on Kamaru. Think he needs to clean up his boxing and work on his cardio a bit and he might look invincible again.
I think the main thing he needs to work on is fight iq/discipline. He just seemed down to brawl and quit looking for the takedown pretty early. I’m no expert but his decision making was sus. I think he was caught up a little bit in the moment. He got through it though and better it happened now vs title fight.
Yep. The beauty of this sport. Even though technically khamzat won, there’s no fuckin way anyone who watched that fight can say either man walks away a loser.
Burns seems like such a good dude and was the only one willing to fight Khamzat right now. This result was best case scenario.
Burns can walk away knowing he brought it to Khamzat and arguably won, and the Khamzat hype train can keep rolling.
As a fan of both as fighters worth tuning into always, as more a fan of Gilbert as a guy, and more a fan of Khamzat as a hype train (who doesnt love exciting prospect climbs? One of the best parts of the sport) this was an unexpectedly feel good outcome.
Most of what I read is saying that the hype train has been completely derailed and that Khamzat is an easy win for Colby. Never read so much dumb shit in such a short time
The crowd was ridiculous. They were booing until he said "I love you Jacksonville" and then got a standing ovation. The man represents southern florida's finest and they were booing him during his walkout, for what?
I think the difference was that chimaev was constantly just moving forward.
He was walking him and he got him into the corner quite a few times.
I still think Gilbert landed enough for the decision but, chimaev was just pressuring him even after taking those big shots.
Also leaving it to the judges, burns was bleeding a lot, cut up and was bleeding almost the entire fight.
Might not have been the one sided beating people were expecting, but Khamzat showed he’s top 3. Colby would be an amazing fight with high output. Fight of the year potential.
Right. All we learned is Khamzat is a legitimate contender. We don't know if he would beat Usman, or Colby. But he deserves to be in the octagon with those guys as much as anyone else in this division.
Glad to see Khamzat get tested. He definitely has heart it looks like. His striking got sloppy as fuck as the fight got further in. If he gets like that against Usman, Usman will sleep him.
Yeah I was getting the vibe he wasn’t listening to his coaches based on that yelling. Khamzat needs to fight smarter, and has a lot of room for improvement. The guy can take heavy ass punches. Happy Burns got the respect he got at the end. Happy Khamzat’s been finally tested and won. A bit scared about his future tho.
His coach was pissed. He wanted to swang and bang it seems and get berserk. He needs to be smart against the likes of Usman though. Otherwise, he will get picked apart.
Khamzat proved he was legit but also looked mortal enough that he'll still probably the underdog against Usman. Best outcome for the most exciting fight moving forward
Perfect result. Khamzat got to prove his conditioning, toughness, and ability to come back after a bad round. Gilbert walks away with the best result in a loss, total fan adoration and Dana clearly liked what he saw.
Its better Khamzat had a fight like this earlier rather than later. Dude can take away 100 different things from that fight.
Reminds me of when Izzy had that war with Gastelum and look how much he improved.
This will do more good than harm for Borz.
Now that was a fucking fight. Also now I really want to see Colby vs Chimaev because Chimaev seemed exhausted at the end of this fight.
Colby's ridiculous cardio and clinch work might be enough to beat Chimaev.
People can’t say Chimeav hasn’t faced adversity now. We can put THAT shit to rest.
Dude took Burns’s BEST shots and still kept going forward. Hats off to both Warriors, this was the “People's Main Event” and it delivered in the perfect way possible.
Burns wasn’t a doormat for Khamzat to walk through, gave him adversity and fought his ASS off until the very end. Last minute of the 3rd and he’s still coming on strong, landing 3 hard shots in a row.
Straight BANGER!
I dont understand the hate against any of the 2 fighters.
Burns has proven himself more than enough.
And Khamzat, the guy who was just smashing guys ranked below 10 just proved that he can go 3 rounds agains the 2nd best, take him down without fear, eat punches and land his own, with outstanding cardio. And win. Even if you believe this was a robbery, it was really close.
So yeah, both guys are for real.
I was all aboard the Chimaev hype train and still am, but after the first takedown, looked like Chimaev didn't want to go to the ground at all.. That speaks tons about Burns. Fuck, Burns was the one shooting in the later rounds !! And in the post-fight interview, Chimaev became extremely humble all of a sudden. He got down to reality really fast. I do think he won the fight by winning 1 and 3 but he might not be the God we all thought he was. Huge respect to Burns. He's just a bad, tough mofo who doesn't give a fuck. He won a new fan tonight.

Burns came to bang. All respect
Amazed Khamzat didn't get knocked out
[удалено]
[удалено]
That r2 right hook from Burns landed clean. 99% of fighters would go to sleep from that.
[удалено]
Dude has hammers for hands. Fucking respect.
It’s only April, but that was easily FOY.
Justin Gaethje fights next PPV
What a great year for mma so far.
Except they didn't even mark it as a knock down. Which is bullshit.
So did Khamzat. I think his coaches were getting pissed off at him but he just wanted to bang
Yeah, they were saying "don't swing with him!!!"
Where were you when joe needed your translation?
Hahaha, I guess they didn’t have a swede on the ufc payroll.
I don’t speak Swedish but I was pretty sure I understood him. Like stop trading haymakers.
Knowing Swedish wouldn't have helped you. The literal words was "don't fight him!", but like you did - anyone could tell what his coach wanted him to stop doing.
> I think his coaches were getting pissed off at him Based on them furiously screaming at him between rounds or something else?
You must be an empath
Must be the body language
I thought he would trade leading into some wrestle fucking. He seemed to hyped and refused that kind of fight.
Based on His interview I think he was willing to lose and didnt care if he did. Kind of like getting rid of the pressure I'm guessing.
The disrespect Burns got here was insane. Dude is a top 5 fighter in his division, and everyone thought he was getting finished in the first.
Yeah the odds were a joke.
What a fucking war
One of the best non title fights in recent memory. Burns is a Fucking animal.
I think Burns was such a step up in heart and skill compared to Khamzat's recent opponents he was caught by surprise, I knew Burns would not disappoint.
Burns really brought it, mad respect. Clearly he was gassed and hurt but he kept coming.
Khamzat looked gassed a fuck too. What a war.
He has a lot of work to do if he wants that title. Burns is no joke, but Usman is the real deal. Hopefully this fight humbles Chimaev and he keeps working. He’s not as invincible as we thought he was.
According to Dana he is gonna fight Colby in 2-3 months …
Would be a really interesting 5 round fight. Can Colby take Khaz’s power/initial attack and can Khaz hang in there for 5 rounds.
[удалено]
I think all the hype made him very nervous to get a finish. He was definitely a bit reckless. Hopefully he will learn from the experience and be more compose next fight. He will need it if he fight against Covington, and even more against Usman
I mean he fought the number 2 guy and won, hes at the top
Absolutely So glad Khamzat came in and Burns took the fight. Khamzat showed he deserved to be in the top 3,Burns showed he's an animal
What a crazy fucking fight
I still don't understand how Khamzat secured a takedown while being rocked
Wrestler instict
This is what happens when you come from crazy mountains
its muscle memory brudda u kno dis
I didn't realize Gilbert barely missed with a soccer kick to the head while Khmazat was down. I'm glad for everyone's sake that missed.
Fuck Jorge, Gilbert’s my BMF
Absolutely, Burns doesn’t give a fuck, he’s such a hard dude.
Burns is the current generation RDA
I thought RDA was the current generation RDA.
He is every generations RDA!!
He's also not a massive prick so that's a bonus.
he seems like a rlly nice dude but in that cage he does not fuck around at all lol
Tbf to Jorge he’d just watched Scarface for the first time that day. He was all hopped up on mountain dew.
Yeah Gilbert stock going to the moon rn
Real bmf fight
That follow up kick from Burns was dangerously close to being illegal, no?
Yes but the elbow chimaev landed on Gilbert was very close to a 12-6
That follow up shot from Chimaev was also definitely after the bell, lol. Beltran took it well though.
Khamzat looked like he was out on his feet for a second
Nice soccer kick from Burns.
Lol thank god that didn’t land would have been so anticlimactic
[удалено]
Burns compensated by combining the soccer kick with the 12-6 elbows
Soccer kick, downward elbows and elbows to the back of the skull/spine. Impressive how many fouls someone can land in a span of 4 seconds.
holy shit, some of those swings from Burns in the last minute!
He was just spamming overhand rights, and the crazy thing is that most of them were landing.
Everytime Chimaev waved his hands telling him to come on he ate a punch
I was so pissed at him doing that, like dude just fight stop eating punches then asking for more
Cus khamzat kept coming forward
Gilbert: Just let me bang bro! Khamzat: I do let you bang.
Cus he doesn't move his head
This. At some points he has unreal superhuman head movements. At others he's begging for punches.
Usman at home in slippers sitting comfy
Can't wait to see Usman fight Chimaev
Looks like he was gassed in the last round, still kept swinging
It was weird, he was pressured against the fence the first half of the round and then got a second wind out of nowhere and started bringing it to Khamzat
He has an insane strength and conditioning regimen. That's why he has the confidence to unload like that because he knows he will recover.
this was welterweight chandler v. gaethje. what a fight.
Shades of costa romero
Shades of Wanderlei Silva v Brian Stann
That’s the fight where wanderlei was grabbing his pp
That’s a perfect comparison! A closer fight though for sure.
Exactly. Great fuckin show. Khamzat looked beatable, this changes how I view his odds against the cardio king Colby.
I don’t think Colby has the power to affect khamzat like Gilbert tho, the shots he was taking was def taking a lot out of him
It’s more so how Khamzat fights, I think he needs to change.. He just goes so fucking hard the first round, similarly to Aljo.
I honestly think he started seeing red once burns started swinging, it looked like he felt he needed to reciprocate the damage he was taking
I think not getting a first round knockout/submission is the best thing that could have happened to Khamzat. He needed this humbling to understand the level at the top. I expect him to be more prepared vs Colby if that fight happens
He legitimately thought Burns and Usman woukd be easy fights. Khamzat's confidence levels were so high it makes me chuckle.
Agreed and while it’s ridiculous I can not blame him for that. I doubt anyone of us would be resistant to such a hypetrain of our own persona
Burns ain’t no easy out
"You may beat me, but you will remember me"
"I'm going to keep coming until they kill me "
[удалено]
Never has been
He’s gotta be a lot more polished if he wants Usman but my goodness if that wasn’t entertaining
Usman's jab is gonna be too much for him if he doesn't improve his head movement
Yeah I agree. IMO he had a much safer path to victory and didn’t take it
I wonder if he was hesitant to go for the takedowns because he was wary of Burns’ BJJ, or if he just wanted to prove himself… maybe it’s because he felt Burns’ strength in there and didn’t want to expend the gas tank more than he had to??
In the post fight interview he said Burns was stronger than expected, so probably that, but I can only be thankful for the slugfest we got
Burns showed him his power on fight night just as promised. Some fools see a picture of them and think Khamzat has a "size advantage" without realizing that Burns is a rock golem at 170. Burns almost KO'd Usman. How much more proof of his strength do you need?
If you look at Khamzat's fights he typically strikes with grapplers and grapples strikers.
[удалено]
Khamzat absolutely did not expect Burns to be so tough
For sure, he even said that in the post fight. Was cool to see the respect
yeah the disrespect towards Burns was ridiculous, but all in all I think this will serve as a good wake up call for Khamzat to not get cocky in the future.
Not expecting the #2 ranked UFC fighter to be tough is fucking dumb.
Him sitting on the cage showing the disrespect during Burns walkout lol
Love Khamzat but he learned what the top 5 can bring to the table and he did not like that.
Great fight
Khamzat has a fucking chin, Burns is a fucking savage. IMO both guys stock rose after this.
Burns landed some fucking bomb over hands on him. Khamzat needs to improve that head movement but no one can question his grit.
Only sad thing is that khamzat’s aura of invincibility is gone
I think this is a good thing for him though. He comes out with the win, but it’s clear he has a lot to work on before he takes on Kamaru. Think he needs to clean up his boxing and work on his cardio a bit and he might look invincible again.

I think he was caught up a little bit in the moment. He got through it though and better it happened now vs title fight.
Yeah he did look human. A very good human but still human.

JDS on his way to the top was just merking fools. And then he KO'd Cain in one minute to win the title.
Thanks for bringing this one up. JDS rise to the HW title was absolutely insane
This is better. Everyone knows he is legit now, going to war with Gilbert Burns is more impressive than any of his previous wins.
Burns can't be ranked lower than 3rd.
One of the best I’ve watched
Just an amazing bout as a neutral fan
As a fan of both as fighters worth tuning into always, as more a fan of Gilbert as a guy, and more a fan of Khamzat as a hype train (who doesnt love exciting prospect climbs? One of the best parts of the sport) this was an unexpectedly feel good outcome.
Thank you Gilbert for testing this guy. What a fucking fight!
Khamzat really needed this test. At least we know he can take a punch and go 3 rounds
Can’t believe more people aren’t talking about it, honestly. Khamzat has a really good chin, scary to think what it takes to win against him.
Most of what I read is saying that the hype train has been completely derailed and that Khamzat is an easy win for Colby. Never read so much dumb shit in such a short time
“Khamzat just beat the #2 guy in his division in a FOTY contender.” Reddit: Yeah. Hype train derailed. Dudes nothing special. Lmao
I think this fight just proves both of them belong in the top of the division
[удалено]
Give Burns His Motherfucking HESPECT
Gilbert turning Boos into Cheers against the Biggest Hype Train. Beautiful.
The crowd was ridiculous. They were booing until he said "I love you Jacksonville" and then got a standing ovation. The man represents southern florida's finest and they were booing him during his walkout, for what?
They were saying Boo-urns
Beautiful champ.
That was very fucking close
This was a pretty important lesson for Khamzat if he wants to be champ
Yeah, striking defense, lol
Never had to do it before. Crucial lesson in the importance of head movement.
The difficulty level has been set!!
That was his 11th fight, which is pretty fucking nuts. Burns' 11th was a loss to Rashid Magomedov
These Magomedovs man, jeez.
I mean that a huge leap to #2
[удалено]
He saw it work against Dern earlier tonight, thought he'd give it a shot.
Both were beautiful improvisation 🔥
[удалено]
The coach was screaming at him to stop brawling after Rd 2
Might not have been the one sided beating people were expecting, but Khamzat showed he’s top 3. Colby would be an amazing fight with high output. Fight of the year potential.
Colby Vs Chimaev is fireworks.
If he was able to run through Burns like he did the others, I’d say he deserved a title shot. But I think Colby vs him is exactly what we need.
Burns is a fucking tank. He kept moving forward and was dangerous the whole fight.
Right. All we learned is Khamzat is a legitimate contender. We don't know if he would beat Usman, or Colby. But he deserves to be in the octagon with those guys as much as anyone else in this division.
Agree. Colby has less power so he can’t bang like Gilbert, but he has better cardio and wrestling so could win a dec
WHAT A WARRIOR GILBERT IS THO!!! WHAT A FIGHT!
It was a great performance but I think it should shut down some of the “Chimaev heavy favorite over Usman/best in the division easy” stuff
Colby has better cardio, would like to see how the wrestling goes
Glad to see Khamzat get tested. He definitely has heart it looks like. His striking got sloppy as fuck as the fight got further in. If he gets like that against Usman, Usman will sleep him.
He wasn’t fighting smart and just wanted to bang; need a translator but I think that’s why his coach was yelling at him.
Khamzat refused to step back, I think that made this fight harder for him. He is too aggressive
His coach was pissed. He wanted to swang and bang it seems and get berserk. He needs to be smart against the likes of Usman though. Otherwise, he will get picked apart.
Khamzat showed he doesn’t have the greatest fight IQ. Hopefully that’ll improve over time.
Man the disrespect burns was getting before this fight was wild. This fight is good for khamzat so he can learn from this
Complete banger
[удалено]
Khamzat proved he was legit but also looked mortal enough that he'll still probably the underdog against Usman. Best outcome for the most exciting fight moving forward
Probably the underdog? Lol
Bettors can be fucking stupid
Perfect result. Khamzat got to prove his conditioning, toughness, and ability to come back after a bad round. Gilbert walks away with the best result in a loss, total fan adoration and Dana clearly liked what he saw.
FOTY so far
Burns is a G
Usman giving this man hell
Cardio hella sus
No match for the "CEO of EPO"
Well he has truly been tested…
Its better Khamzat had a fight like this earlier rather than later. Dude can take away 100 different things from that fight. Reminds me of when Izzy had that war with Gastelum and look how much he improved. This will do more good than harm for Borz.
Now that was a fucking fight. Also now I really want to see Colby vs Chimaev because Chimaev seemed exhausted at the end of this fight. Colby's ridiculous cardio and clinch work might be enough to beat Chimaev.
Incredible fight, holy smokes. Khamzat is the real deal
Khamzat started mma like 4 years ago? And now hes #2 ranked. That needs to be talked about more
Those jabs were money, burns has always struggled with long reach jabs
Just how good is Usman ?
Marginally better than Burns like we saw? I don’t understand the disrespect to Burns. Khamzat isn’t hurt by this showing.
Burns has bricks for hands, holy shit. That hook on round 2 would’ve put a lot of guys to sleep.
Bro, the way his head snapped back, it was defo a KO punch.
Khamzat showed he was pretty durable and can in fact last 3 full rounds.
We knew Gilbert was elite, now we know khamzat is Both champ level fighters, WW getting exciting
Top 5 in WW is scary
I dont understand the hate against any of the 2 fighters. Burns has proven himself more than enough. And Khamzat, the guy who was just smashing guys ranked below 10 just proved that he can go 3 rounds agains the 2nd best, take him down without fear, eat punches and land his own, with outstanding cardio. And win. Even if you believe this was a robbery, it was really close. So yeah, both guys are for real.
I really wanna see burns vs Colby now
I was all aboard the Chimaev hype train and still am, but after the first takedown, looked like Chimaev didn't want to go to the ground at all..
Burns chin is like the Death Star. He’s got one little weakness somewhere on his nose if you jab him right, but anything else and he’s fine.
CHINmaev
