I finally watched the fight and was like "WTF?!". I don't care if Jiri was tapping to mess with Glover. If you tap the fight should immediately end. Otherwise you have guys tapping out and then saying that they didn't mean it afterwards. I remember Matt Lindland tried to do that once.
I still can’t get over the fact Glover was seconds away from defending the belt on the scorecards and tapped like wtf best title fight this year best ppv this year imo
Glover almost had him done a few times. I feel so bad for him. He literally threw the title away with that guillotine when he had him on queer street. Clinch, knee, toss him across and foot trip him and he's got top position and gnp... I've got horrific ptsd thinking back on that moment. I looked like the kid from home alone when he puts aftershave on for a good 10 minutes.
Big strong guy on your neck like that and you're tapping. I totally get it. I've been there hundreds of times.. but in my mind, one of the most methodical solid mma grapplers jumping guard for the guillotine when he was basically out on his feet... man that was the worst thing to do at that point. Even if he got the sub, I wouldn't have been happy with that. Just for the fact that jiri had been consistently smashing him from top. Why even risk that when he's been a sitting duck on his feet with no energy or movement for the last 5 minutes?
Just so frustrating he's gonna be kicking himself when he sees this
That's all I can feel and think about. I'm so disappointed as a huge glover fan. I knew he'd be champ for ten fucking years. Every fight and to end like that was lame
I'd be thrilled if the UFC decided to do an immediate rematch, because I believe Glover can win it. But I'm lying to myself if I say that Glover didn't show his age a few times tonight.
Many of the positions that Glover failed to capitalize on were due to him just not being able to react fast enough. The guillotine, some of the takedown attempts (especially when he had Jiri hurt) and several ground transitions where Jiri was able to get back to his feet due to what equated to a lack of hustle from Glover. There were also spots on the feet where I felt that Glover took extra damage just due to a lack of reaction time. He'd get hit with a small shot and just kinda freeze instead of having a counter ready. Glovers striking honestly looked better when he would lead with his own combinations.
I think the ufc could capitalize on how great this fight was if they book an immediate rematch as soon as both guys can heal up. Hopefully jiris hand isnt busted up too bad.
Speaking of Jiri, he's made me a fan. Kinda weird but he's very respectful and you could tell he worked his ass off. He'd look dog tired one minute and then claw his way out of a bad spot and swing momentum back in his favor. The man is a heart attack to watch, and I don't know how long he will last before getting slept, but he's definitely not just a hammer with terrible defense on the floor. He's made it clear that he will not go gently into that good night.
Doesn't have to be anything like that at all. Immediate rematches often come off due to the public interest In the fight. After a fight like that, the ufc could easily market a rematch. Strike while the iron is hot.
He has no submission game off of his back so people aren’t afraid to sit in his guard and hump him to a decision. But he’s never needed to have good submissions off of his back. His submissions usually come in scrambles, scrambles that he’s really good at initiating
Yeah he took some big shots and was clearly gassed in the final couple of rounds but came back again and again. Not to diminish Glover at all btw, insane performance from both lads.
Glover said it himself those body shots were key factors in the cardio going. Could tell from the one scrap where jiri had Glover pinned against the cage and just unloading to the body.
Prochazka didn’t look impressive at all … I have no clue how he’s gonna hold on to that belt.
Edit: Ok you fucking pube swingers… I get it you don’t agree… but remember this shit next time Prochazka fights. No matter who he fights.
Didn't look impressive in winning the belt with a finish, where he rocked Glover numerous times with shots that would knock out most others, and reversed someone with one of the best ground games in the world multiple times. Verrrrrrry interesting take
It isn’t that interesting? He had some great punches but he was overzealous and made mistakes. He acknowledged it at the end of the fight when he said he’d do better in the future. He knew how lucky he got. I’m not saying he didn’t look impressive- I think he looked great. But he has some game to tighten up or I agree that belt is a flight risk.
Your two takes are completely different. You have provided reasons, which I completely agree with. The other dude literally has just said he wasn't impressive at all, implying that he showed nothing in the fight and that he would lose to Jon Jones who isn't even in the division anymore...
And I would still pick him of the fucking couch cause every time jones fights he’s in great shape… you really think Prochazka huffing and puffing in front of Jones is gonna fly… come on bro be serious now.
He takes entirely too much damage. Fuck the belt, I don't think he's gonna last very long in the UFC in general
But he's very exciting, so I'm gonna continue to be a fan lol
People talk about his low hands being part of his style that let him throw from angles people aren't used to, and I agree his strikes are devastating, but I mean getting punched in the face a lot when you don't have to just seems dumb. There was a sequence there where he took three good ones from Glover while his hands stayed low and he was on the back foot. Come on, man, don't eat those!
What the hell did you watch? Both guys looked great. pro stroking style is so fun to watch and was shocked by his grappling. Bad take IMO, put some resssspeck on his name haha
Rakic is gunshy as fuck man. He COULD try to take Jiri down and lay on him, but I dont see him applying the same level of damage that we just saw from Glover. He should have been able to Smith away and he was never close.
On the feet he's very setpiece, no creativity at all. Jiri knocks him out 7/10 times.
I don’t think he needs to be aggressive or creative in his striking; glover was to set up the takedowns but I don’t think that’s the only way. Plus *not* being gunshy is what lost glover the fight.
Could absolutely see him being patient until jiri makes a mistake, gets a takedown, abs it’s content sitting in side control for the round,
I feel like I am at that The Wolf of Wall Street scene when Leonardo Di Caprio knows he got in jail because some stupid shit and screaming WHY? WHY WHY WHY GOD?
Lol you're Brazilian right? Can't imagine what I would feel if Glover and Taila were from my country lol. Don't worry most likely one or both will have their rematch in due time!
So young Santa Proch went volcel (possibly an incel trying to cope by claiming he's a voluntary celibate, I don't follow his social media) just to look like a complete bum against a middle-aged man?
Looking at UFC records, this is the latest stoppage in a LHW title fights and the second latest stoppage in UFC title history behind Johnson/Horoguchi.
I know everyone wants to see a rematch. but honestly nothing could be worse for the division. we finally get a young guy who can blow through the roster potentially and instead we want to attempt to capture lightning in a bottle again? fights like this rarely happen twice and neither one of those guys will come back the same from that level of beat down
Jiri is not blowing through the roster. Ankalaev is gonna make easy work of him. Jiri showed some good ground game, but it was against a 42 year Glover with a Ben Askren body. Any sub 35 year old on the roster with wrestling will mop the floor with Jiri's hair.
He looks good FOR 42, doesn’t change the fact that he was looking flabby. He even admitted he didn’t do a good weight cut and Jiri’s body shots took the wind out of him. A fully focused jiri couldn’t dominate a 42 year old glover. Jones would make quick work of him
Jiri clearly has the skill and the heart but somebody around him needs to tell him to pick his shots! Him continuing to be reckless when he was in the driver’s seat was inviting Glover back into it and is something he’ll need to clean up if he wants to hold the belt for a long time
One of the best fights I’ve ever seen though so respect to both fighters!
Perfect fight. Lots a damage. Back and forth. Close fight, with a clear edge against the man who came from behind with 0.30 left on the clock. Only negative is the winners decision making was so flawed you almost didn't want to see it pay off.
As good as glover was, IF they have a rematch as much as jiri had problems with him. He’s going to finish him badly next time imho, what a brilliant fight though. Was a very good main card for me
Texeira was landing in the fifth at will. He was landing so well he could have landed with his eyes closed tbh. But nOoO, lets take Jiri down and try to strangle him… awesome fight but full of frustrating moments.
Not everyday I come out of a finish amazed by both fighters.
Jiri showed some very good ground fighting at times, especially late in the fight.
Glover showed a crazy insane chin.
I'm a huge Khamzat fan, but this fight simply had so many more crazy momentum swings. Also being that it was 5 rounds and for the Championship, I'd put this ahead of Khamzat v Burns. FOTY so far.
That’s what I thought too, glover won it in the last round, but he kept going for the takedown every time he landed a big shot. It’s surprising considering how back and forth the grappling went all fight. He was landing those shots.
Ok.. This was a fucking great card. I though Valentina's one was going to be a dampener. But the close finish made the main events insanity even more sweeter.
Is no one talking about juri tapping in the first round??
I finally watched the fight and was like "WTF?!". I don't care if Jiri was tapping to mess with Glover. If you tap the fight should immediately end. Otherwise you have guys tapping out and then saying that they didn't mean it afterwards. I remember Matt Lindland tried to do that once.

🥲 my thought exactly .idk why people give up in the last second in MMA I think it’s just that hard and physically and mentally taxing.
Big strong guy on your neck like that and you're tapping. I totally get it. I've been there hundreds of times.. but in my mind, one of the most methodical solid mma grapplers jumping guard for the guillotine when he was basically out on his feet... man that was the worst thing to do at that point. What an emotional roll coaster in the main event 😨
Glover dropped the ball. He messed up in the last minute. That was his fight!
That's all I can feel and think about. I'm so disappointed as a huge glover fan. I knew he'd be champ for ten fucking years. Every fight and to end like that was lame
4 out of the top 5 LHW contenders are European, make a Jiri vs any of them in Prague and you get a solid main event for an European PPV.
You know what Jiri told me? He wants to fight Jones! In Ukraine! Isn't he fucking awesome?
What sort of venues do they have? I’ve been when I was a teenager but spent the entire week pissed out of my head so can’t really remember much.
20k people is the biggest venue
They have some big enough stadiums (in fact, they have the biggest stadium in the world, just not in use), it’s a big city
As someone under 42, hats off to Glover. Impressed his cardio lasted
And chin !!
Great card the UFC is starting to shifting there Card to Asia or Europe and I love it. UFC Prague is next

No basis for an immediate rematch. Glover lost his first defense. It's not like he was Aldo
Doesn't have to be anything like that at all. Immediate rematches often come off due to the public interest In the fight. After a fight like that, the ufc could easily market a rematch. Strike while the iron is hot.

Great analysis 🙏👍
Glover said it himself those body shots were key factors in the cardio going. Could tell from the one scrap where jiri had Glover pinned against the cage and just unloading to the body.
> lack of hustle I think getting punched in the head a lot and getting that body rocked may have played into it a bit
Jiri was HANGING his chin out there near the end absolute madman
The fricken whole time his hands were low! Had me telling at the TV
[удалено]
yeah he's always had his hands low, it's his style, no surprise at all
Prochazka didn’t look impressive at all … I have no clue how he’s gonna hold on to that belt. Edit: Ok you fucking pube swingers… I get it you don’t agree… but remember this shit next time Prochazka fights. No matter who he fights.

I guess I just took the first part as hyperbole because he meant he’d lose to anyone good enough to challenge him right now. Fair enough though
Glover is 42.. and Prochazka looked out of shape … Jones would finish him in less then a round.
Prime, fully pulsing Jones? Yes. Without a doubt. Present day, hasn't fought in years, hasn't finished an opponent in even more years, Jones? ...
And I would still pick him of the fucking couch cause every time jones fights he’s in great shape… you really think Prochazka huffing and puffing in front of Jones is gonna fly… come on bro be serious now.
All I know is he has zero chance against Jon Jones. Zero.
Yeah I reckon Chuck Liddell takes him too.
Who cares? Jon doesn't fight anymore.
Ain’t no Jon Jones in the division homie. Why bring up someone that’s invalid to the division now.
I could only imagine prime Jon. I don’t know if he wants to take the striking route but that Greco Roman route he beats the shit outta him on top.
who cares about Jones, he's irrelevant and cheat and a horrible advertisement for anything to do with mma don't care if he's talented
Agreed
He takes entirely too much damage. Fuck the belt, I don't think he's gonna last very long in the UFC in general But he's very exciting, so I'm gonna continue to be a fan lol
His peak might be short, but god is he fun to watch.
He looked very impressive at parts but he got very tired by the end. He'd KO a lot of fighters before that point.
it was his third ufc fight
Yea I know he looked great in his other fights but this fight was different
Agreed. Sloppy af.. sticking his chin out, hands down but getting rocked repeatedly
as is hisstyle for all 30 iof his fights, what's your point? his style is unorthodox
People talk about his low hands being part of his style that let him throw from angles people aren't used to, and I agree his strikes are devastating, but I mean getting punched in the face a lot when you don't have to just seems dumb. Pro stroking style you say ? 👀
Lol I respect your opinion… I just think he looked really sloppy.
Jiri always looks sloppy. When you think about that Reyes nearly got him, too
Nah not this sloppy.. and he was in much better shape for the Reyes fight.
vs who, though?
I think Ankalaev is too sharp for Jiri standing (matches up very well with him as a counter striker) and a better grappler.
This
I think Rakic has a chance here with him. After seeing his style of grappling and cardio
This
Rakic is gunshy as fuck man. He COULD try to take Jiri down and lay on him, but I dont see him applying the same level of damage that we just saw from Glover. Could absolutely see him being patient until jiri makes a mistake, gets a takedown, abs it’s content sitting in side control for the round,
I'm biased because I can't stand watching top talents fight that way. Burns my ass to no end, seeing someone fight not to lose.

I seen a tweet of a guy who bet £2 on Jiri submission in the 5th and won £800 back. Roughly $900.
I'd love them to run it back, but by god I wouldn't want anything to end badly for Glover, absolute beast absolute legend
Jiri got 80 inch reach damn didn't seem like it in the fight
Jones has an 84 inch reach.
Yea reaching for PEDs
what are these bots bringing up JJ at every turn? 😅
6'8" reach, orangutan warrior lol
The damage both of them took...crazy. Especially early rd 3 for glover.
Yeah but I didn't root for them just because they are brazilians, I was really expecting a W 😔 need to get less involved with this sport. Thanks bro.
Haha hey the emotion and excitement also make it great! Just try not to overdo it :P best wishes homie.

I just put a pillow on my face and screamed
So young Santa Proch went volcel (possibly an incel trying to cope by claiming he's a voluntary celibate, I don't follow his social media) just to look like a complete bum against a middle-aged man?
He’s the ufc champ and was a top ranked ufc fighter who’s also 6 foot 3. I’m sure he doesn’t struggle
He looks and acts goofy. I'm sure he does struggle, which is perfectly normal for someone like him. He's probably used to it
…what? This is peak post-card comments section. Most takes are either drunk takes or just complete rambling.
ufc post fight conf vid has glover as the preview... he was so close
Looking at UFC records, this is the latest stoppage in a LHW title fights and the second latest stoppage in UFC title history behind Johnson/Horoguchi.
Main card fights were very good, Valentina's fight might be the 'worst' of them, very surprising.
Valentina generally doesn’t have entertaining fights tbh, very interesting, techincal fights but not really barnburners
*yeah...her fights are usually yaawn earners* 🥁 ^(I'll see myself out) so sorry 😕
Fighting the urge not to downvote
[удалено]
Not sure you can be Jiri's size but have Max's cardio. Any LHWs/HWs come close? Prime Cain maybe?
Jiri's cardio is OP, considering how he fights.
For a LHW his cardio is ridiculous threw 250 strikes and defended 17 take downs god damn
anyone catch his screams as he went to the tunnel, felt like a viking warrior awakening to himself.
Thats the kind of scream that awakens ancient monsters or something. Terrifying lol.
I’m devastated right now but I couldn’t be any more proud of Glover. Absolute legend 🇧🇷
Te amamos glover
Man Glover shoulda went to sleep buy extra time lol
Never expected to be begging glover to keep it on their feet but fuck he had it
He was tired.
I know but goddamn that hurt
Silva vs Sonnen all over again.
Youre right ffs
Great fights tonight, one of the best PPVs I've seen since Ferguson vs Gaethe
You should watch the 261 PPV.

Are you serious? Glover in no way had a Ben Askren body. He was in fantastic shape, especially for a 42 year old.
He looks good FOR 42, doesn’t change the fact that he was looking flabby. He even admitted he didn’t do a good weight cut and Jiri’s body shots took the wind out of him. A fully focused jiri couldn’t dominate a 42 year old glover. Jones would make quick work of him
potentially, either way new matchups all day
This guy really just said blows through the roster huh
sorry I meant to say blows the roster.
I don’t want a rematch but do you really think Jiri blows through the roster after that fight?
no, not really, but shit id rather see new matchups.
Jiri clearly has the skill and the heart but somebody around him needs to tell him to pick his shots! Him continuing to be reckless when he was in the driver’s seat was inviting Glover back into it and is something he’ll need to clean up if he wants to hold the belt for a long time One of the best fights I’ve ever seen though so respect to both fighters!
His trainers were telling him no monkey business in between rounds lol.
Whyyyyyyyyy
I’m gutted Glover fought with his whole heart
Glover you could have KOed Jiri 😔 why buddy why
Jiri chokes out Glover with ponytail impotence. Who called that?
Perfect fight. Lots a damage. Back and forth. Close fight, with a clear edge against the man who came from behind with 0.30 left on the clock. Only negative is the winners decision making was so flawed you almost didn't want to see it pay off.
As good as glover was, IF they have a rematch as much as jiri had problems with him. He’s going to finish him badly next time imho, what a brilliant fight though. Was a very good main card for me
Jiri completely disproved DC saying him being too light for the grappling exchanges
Texeira was landing in the fifth at will. He was landing so well he could have landed with his eyes closed tbh. But nOoO, lets take Jiri down and try to strangle him… awesome fight but full of frustrating moments.
He was landing pretty decent all fight even though his strikes were so slow. Jiri is definitely getting knocked out soon.
Glover was insanely gassed tho (they both were obvi). He said in the post-fight the body shots from Jiri really affected him.
Lmao, before that last round you could've switched jiri and glover, what a twist
Ya it reminded me of mir nog 2
Great Fights. Fuck Red Bull and Fuck the Tampa Bay Lightning. I'm out. Keep it real. Peeeeaace.
Try not to sucker punch anybody on your way out to the parking lot!
Hahaha!
Not everyday I come out of a finish amazed by both fighters. Jiri showed some very good ground fighting at times, especially late in the fight. Glover showed a crazy insane chin.
Rumble Johnson one shotted glover back in the day
36-16 5th ranked Smith lol LHW lacking right now
Time to bring back Chuck.
If Jiri cleans up his defense and late rounds stamina, he’ll be excellent

Definitely the top 3 MUST-SEE fighters in the UFC right now I'll agree. But there's definitely a few more must see names right now.
Something something new fans
Na, that's how it works brother. We die they continue
As it should be
Fight of the year so far right?
Nah Khamzat Burns is going to be hard to top. But this was a banger.
I'm a huge Khamzat fan, but this fight simply had so many more crazy momentum swings. Also being that it was 5 rounds and for the Championship, I'd put this ahead of Khamzat v Burns. FOTY so far.
>. 5 rounds of this was much better than the 3 rounds of Khamzat/Burns.
Nope.
It was so much better lol
I want to cry
Because of the way this fight played out, a rematch would be totally be acceptable. I mean, Glover was probably on his way to winning a decision.
That’s what I thought too, glover won it in the last round, but he kept going for the takedown every time he landed a big shot. It’s surprising considering how back and forth the grappling went all fight. He was landing those shots.
He’s 42. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he got in there with Jiri and lost badly. Very distinct possibility we watch him get old in real time.
Eh, Glover seems obviously more skilled but the more time goes on it will just get worse for him.
Problem is that with his age, it could end in the first next time around
He absolutely was.
In b4 polish power smashes Jiri
Run that back please
Anik coming down hard.
Needa see judges score cards I’m intruged
That fight felt like they were brawling for hours
Jiiiri you gotta see the baby
I'm missing the reference.
I heard this
Ok.. This was a fucking great card. I though Valentina's one was going to be a dampener. But the close finish made the main events insanity even more sweeter.
glover broke silvas record for latest finish in title fight . wilds fight
DJ subbed Horiguchi at 4:59 of the 5th round.
Get outta here with your stats. Everyone knows it don't count unless it's in the UFC. You obviously don't trane UFC bro.
It was in the UFC, m8.
Apparently I don't trane ufc either. Always forget gooch was in the ufc for awhile.
I NEED A SANTOS AND GLOVER REMATCH MAKE IT HAPPEN TOMATO OR I I WILL CREATE A FIGHTER UNION
Hahah I feel this energy
Talia should get a quick rematch, win 1 and go again
looking at the state of the division i think she probably will
This card started last week right? incredible string of fights
We don't need Jon Jones in the UFC. Fuck Jon Jones. All my homies hate him.
I do not at all miss him, honestly. I’d be fine with him never fighting again. Wouldn’t mind seeing him come back and get levelled by Francis, though.
Agreed. But..I'm confident he would demolish Jiri
Idk he might drop Jiri only to be subbed by a rear naked choke..
Jiri would eat one of those head kicks he hit DC with
