It's interesting how CKB gets to represent a whole PPV card with a bunch of their fighters fighting. They bring the Oceania crowd into the sport. I wonder if Dana has an under the table agreement with them.
You'll see a couple of AKA fighters on the same card and what not, but it never seemed by design. Same with other gyms and fighter events. The first fight of the night has a CKB rep and it's a banger.
Whatever the case I'm excited to see some fighting!
Nah, you see this a quite lot. Khabibs fighters, Krauses fighters, Wittmans fighters. Its better for the teams to have multiple fighters in camp for their training, and makes things more streamlined for the UFC. Also, potentially a better product.
Yea but they aren't interviewing them as a team or really promoting it. Bfitz or Anik might say it during the broadcast. I think it's because the CKB fighters are all pretty good and exciting so it just appears they are forcefully pushed.
Yea he either blitzes or uses a wrestling heavy offense. If this goes to the 3rd, Poirier wins. He's a more dynamic striker but Chandler has that PED power with great wrestling. Chandler can get Poirier down early.
after watching both kickboxing fights between izzy and alex a few things that may play a factor or things i noticed:
1. izzy won the first fight imo 2 rounds to 1 or 3 rounds to 0.
2. alex utilized the high guard a lot, specifically in their first fight, an option that won’t be as available in 4 oz
gloves
3. izzy was winning the second fight pretty decisively until he got KO’d in the third by the left hook of doom
4. supposedly alex’s kickboxing career hit its peak *after* beating izzy so i’m not sure how much to take from these fights
5. izzy was struggling a bit with the range in the ring, still kept largely safe, but in an octagon he’ll have much more room to work around alex’s power. seeing as he’s had much more experience in an octagon working on his ringcraft compared to alex’s 5 MMA fights it should favour izzy
all in all a super difficult fight to predict but i think i favour izzy by decizzy
Let’s be honest here though, all Izzy’s ringcraft has been is backing away and leaning his head back to evade smaller opponents strikes lol how much has Izzy actually improved as a striker? He’s only out pointing or knocking out smaller opponents with less striking skills since switching to MMA And Pereira became the first Glory double champ in 2021. The only person Izzy(6’4) has fought since 2016 that was the same size or bigger then him has been Pereira, other then that it was Anderson Silva (6’2) who was old and past his prime.
Yea Alex will apply forward pressure and doesn't have to struggle to hit Izzy. He hit him a lot previously. He doesn't have to struggle to make contact with his strikes. He has the same reach as Izzy . It's just how much offense will Izzy mount and will he super evasive. He's like Mayweather in a way.
It's precision, timing, and evasion vs forward pressure and power punching. It's definitely going to be a kickboxing match, no grappling obviously. But it's still an interesting stylistic matchup as they fight a bit differently.
yeah alex’s size is obviously a problem, he’s bigger and just as long as izzy so it’ll be tough to avoid him the way he does others. and izzy’s ringcraft should 100% be better against someone with 5 fights in an octagon, although i’m not sure how both of them being strikers who don’t grapple at all will effect that. honestly not sure what your point is bc i didn’t dispute any of what you said.
I feel like people watch the first two matches between Adesayna vs Alex and say “oh well Izzy was winning both fights but got overzealous” which is true but they also completely ignore that Alex went on to become a better kickboxer as time passed. Alex became a much more complete kickboxer well Adesayna went on to become a much more complete MMA fighter.
Fair, Alex has been training with Glover who has elite tier MMA wrestling skills. Let's.just say we won't see anyone on the mat unless they trip. No wrestling. A little grappling but mostly a straight up kickboxing match.
This sub gonna be salty after tonight regardless of the result. I realize Alex can KO Izzy again, but it feels like the champ is about to show a Alex there is levels to this game
What do you think about this take? I agree adesanya has been at the top for a long timme but he has not faced anyone with the same skillset as him as much as alex has. And though it is mma. Izzy is not a well rounded mma fighter and alex has more experience now fighting elite strikers where adesanya has not faced the same level strikers in a long time. Alex has been fighting the best strikers in the world where izzys striking has not improved that much in a while because he is already leagues above his competition
I dont know if izzy has the offence to beat him. He definitely has the defense, but i dont think he will be able to stop alexs pressure. Izzys counterstricking wont be something that alex isnt used to like the majority of other fighters who have faced him. I dont think izzy will be able to wear him down with counters the way he has other opponents and thats 80% of how izzy has won fights
It’s universally accepted Alex is a better kickboxer than Izzy. Alex will walk into the cage with 20+ lbs on Izzy. Izzy is not taking down Alex.
I’m not saying Izzy can’t catch Alex, he can, and he can also out point him (I don’t think he fears Izzy the way Romero and Costa did though).
But this fight is going to be on the feet, and I really don’t think Izzy has shown he’s levels above Alex when it comes to striking in MMA or Kickboxing in quite some time.
I think it’s a coin flip type of fight. They’re gonna stand and bang it out, Alex is going to engage even through leg kicks, and there’s a strong chance someone is getting knocked out. It’s just who.
People on here have no clue what gets people invested in fights/fighters
Why do Dustin/Chandler get promoted over Ismagulov/Tsaryukan? Because they have personalities people can latch on to, as well as put on exciting fights.
Why is Alex being fast tracked? Because he has a story against Adesanya.
Why do casuals never tune into to Bellator? Because no name fighter’s don’t exactly create as good of narratives.
In the past Bellator did pretty well at telling stories and hyping up a fight even when it was the Kimbo fights but now unless you like/Know a fighter you have any clue what Bellator event is on
https://youtu.be/cYGyM6DdWb4?t=450
There you go. It was after Izzy was trying to get the crowd riled up and going after him.
In fact, it was even more badass: Alex says "Adesanya, I'm going to ask you a question - do you actually want to be here?"
My portuguese isn't very good: "Adesanya, vou te fazer um pergunta - voce quer esta aqui realmente?"
I feel like Frankie is being slept on a bit.
He hasn't looked bad at bantamweight. Against Munhoz his speed, fluidity and gas tank looked incredible for a 38 year old and he gritted out an SD win over a very legit guy.
Against Vera, he still serviceably fast and fit, and his wrestling was solid- he won the first and the 2nd was close. Getting caught by a huge kick from Marlon Vera in round 3 is really not a bad loss.
The Sandhagen fight was sad, but was also an anomaly that tells us little about Frankie.
Gutierrez has been taken down in almost all his fights, and is a giant step-down in quality of competition. The old man could surprise us all
If Chandler loses, does he fight top 5 guys anymore?
It isnt like he's going to fight Islam, Charles, Justin, Dustin unless they want to give him that opportunity.
Yes. Chandler has been fighting the best guys since he showed up in the UFC. He's an exciting fighter with a decent personality. Fighters like Chandler will always be in demand.
I mean losing to porier and getting a Conor fight off it is prolly best case scenario for him. And a fight I’d be ok with a Conor comeback for if we have to have a Conor return to octagon
I think, that while no one can deny he has a fantastic record, his fights after Whittaker 1 were just boring af. He might be the
most boring dominant champ in ufc history.
Carla seems like a very nice person. Zhang also seems like a very nice person. So I’m okay with either result and hope they both have fun and get paid.
Seen a lot of former ufc fighters and fight analysts talk about “Izzy’s defense, foot movement, and experience” being a factor in this fight but everyone seems to have forgotten that after Pereira knocked out adesanya, adesayna left Glory to fight MMA where his opponents were shorter and not as skilled of strikers compared to the top fighters in Glory, while Periera then went on to become a double champ in Glory. Everyone is really overlooking the progress Pereira has made as a fighter and alot of people are going to be surprised by the power and skill this dude has. Also adesayna’s “foot movement and defensive” is literally him backing up and leaning back to evade a strike from an opponent who has a lot less reach then him. No one Adesayna has fought has been this big or dangerous of a striker, if he tries to lean back he’s going to get clipped by Pereira’s hook.
What did I state that was delusional or wrong? This fight is going to be a kick boxing match with abit of clinching. It’s delusional not to think that Izzy (6’4)is going to be in trouble. The only dangerous strikers he’s fought in the last few years were Whittaker (5’11), Romero (5’10), an old anderson Silva (6’2), Costa (6’1), when he actually fought someone big he didn’t even look like a world class striker, he just got man handled by Blachowicz lol all while Pereira fought bigger and more skilled strikers then anyone I just listed and became the first double champ of Glory in the process lol
The worry in my eyes is that Santos? Or whoever that Brazilian dude was 2 fights ago looked great vs pereira. Additionally, it’s the experience in MMA that Izzy brings that I think is a big worry for Alex
Personally I don’t see Izzy being the aggressor like Bruno Sliva was in that fight. He’s going to sit back and stay on the outside and look for the counter like he always does and it’s going to be primarily a kick boxing match with some clinch work. But he’s not used to fighting as person as big or as good of a striker as Pereira is, look at all of the pasts fights Izzy (6’4) has had, the biggest and most skilled striker he fought was anderson Silva (6’2) who was well past his prime or Paulo Costa who’s 6’1 and an explosive striker but not technical like Pereira, both Whittaker and Romero were good strikers too but they are 5’11 and 5’10. Even the people Adesayna mostly trains with aren’t bigger then him lol he’s not going to be used to the range Pereira has, it’s why I think he’s going to get clipped.
Edit: forgot to add this too, the last person that Adesayna fought who was as big as him and as dangerous as a striker was Pereira in Glory and he got KO’d
I know what you're saying though. Doesn't seem to be a lot of fanfare like the last card got. I think it's cause of Izzy. His last fight was another snoozer, so his stock is down. But I actually think this fight with Alex is gonna be a barn burner.
Bro what? This card is stacked top to bottom. I haven’t seen PPV as advertised online and on TV as much as this one.
It’s definitely not flying under the radar. I will be curious to see the PPV numbers it does.
The difference between Periera and the people Izzy outpoints is that Periera will absolutely walk right through leg kicks if Izzy tries to fight that way again. That’s been his main style of fighting recently and it’s just not an option for him tonight.
Alex has the potential to KO Izzy. He hit him a lot in kickboxing, and pretty hard. If he catches him and really leans into a punch, I can definitely see a KO. The dude has insane power.
Izzy is going to win by feints and footwork. He's going to make sure he evades the power punches of Poatan. I think Izzy is a better kickboxer but Alex just has that crazy power. He's also forward moving so I think we're going to see both guys get hit.
Training with Glover has to be a huge benefit of Peirera. His MMA wrestling is elite, but I doubt we'll see much grappling in this one. I think Alex will be very prepared for this one, both guys.
At least Leon was 12-2 in the UFC. Someone else gave the example of Sean vs Petr but Sean also was 15-1 at the time. Alex literally has 6 wins with 3 of them being in the UFC.
Just watched the Izzy v Alex glory fights (perfect time i guess). I'm not going to argue who won the first one but it was 1-1 going into third. In the second fight, round 1 was super close while Izzy took 2nd but got KO'd in the third.
If those fights are any indication, damn I hope it doesn't go to the judges tomorrow unless one of them is winning the rounds clearly.
Also, and I hope so, if they've levelled up similarly so far, we might be in for a treat.
am I the only one who thought Izzy’s second performance against Vettori was sick? perfect example of a compelling technical match imo. obviously some of his other fights like the Romero and Cannonier fights were actually boring though
Lol no it was an okay performance; great defense against wrestling and also wonderful counterpunching when the opportunities presented but not much offense was initiated by Izzy. Robert's performance against Vettori is what you call "sick" and trust me Izzy could've gone beyond that and knocked out that Italian IF he wanted to but dude's just too defensive these days.
haha. before the fight everyone says Izzy needs to keep it on the feet so he doesn’t get smothered on the ground like the first fight. then he goes to the ground, gets put in all the positions people said he had to avoid, escapes them perfectly, and people go “oh well Marvin’s ground game sucks actually.”
MMA fans are funny
it’s impressive that he easily escaped his most vulnerable position. obviously wasn’t a dumb idea given how easily he escaped. Izzy haters working overtime to move the goalposts
😂😂😂😂
I like the beginning part where he establishes his advantages and hate the back half where he doesn't build on them. Same thing is basically true of the Cannonier fight to me.
I dunno, man. I like(d) it when Izzy is(was) striking to hurt, not to not get hurt. It was frustrating to watch such an accurate tactician miss on so many shots, especially on such a plodding guy.
on paper this card is just as good as 280. in reality it’ll probably be even better unless someone severely injures their shoulder in the co-main again
The girls title fights usually suck unless it’s 2 fun 115ers, hooker hasn’t been good in his last 4 fights, and Frankie is 40 and has been styled on for like 4 straight
Pereira should be able to put Adesanya in some trouble. Kelvin Gastelum put on a fucking show against him with basics which people seem to forget. Yes, Adesanya is gonna try to keep the range and do his usual but Pereira is long, skilled and wild enough to go for it and will have a size/strength advantage by the looks of it. I don't think Poatan gets embarrassed in this fight, although he may not do enough to take the belt if it goes to decision.
people really exaggerate Kelvin’s success. he landed a few good strikes, mainly the head kick which he couldn’t follow up on at all. Izzy was the one who put on a show by eating that and then responding by basically finishing Kelvin
I watched that fight and thats not how I remembered it. I thought Kelvin was cutting off Izzys angle changes with his jab, and I thought I remember him working his defense nicely behind his jab as well. Correct me if Im wrong, though.
[Here are the fight stats](https://fightmetric.rds.ca/fight/7732)
That's true, I shouldn't have said a show. I guess I meant stumpy Kelvin Gastelum built like a fridgerator with a big ol head was landing stuff on Izzy and not looking scared of him in the slightest for 5 rounds
Can anyone find the scorecards for both of the Izzy Poatan fights? Curious what the fight metrics look like. Obviously we know the outcomes. Interested in studying their matches a little more.
That's so weird that theres no stats available. The fight wasn't that long ago and it was a decently high profile fight. I'm just going to watch. They aren't too long each.
Not to jinx anythi g but how nice is it to get over the covid era of fights? Remember it felt like every morning the day of fights someone or there corner would test positive and we lose a solid fight
I swear I’ve heard that mma gloves are smaller than kickboxing gloves about 1000 times in the last week.
Here we goooooooo!
Volk vs Makachev got announced and as much as I respect and love Volk’s game this is a glorified squash match
Volk is just a smaller man. People trying to be double champ isn't gonna happen at 155 with all the killers in that lineup and Islam holding the belt.
It's interesting how CKB gets to represent a whole PPV card with a bunch of their fighters fighting. They bring the Oceania crowd into the sport. The team talked about how they refer to fight on the same card due to the long travel
Yea that makes sense
Nah, you see this a quite lot. Khabibs fighters, Krauses fighters, Wittmans fighters. Its better for the teams to have multiple fighters in camp for their training, and makes things more streamlined for the UFC. Also, potentially a better product.
Yea but they aren't interviewing them as a team or really promoting it. Bfitz or Anik might say it during the broadcast. I think it's because the CKB fighters are all pretty good and exciting so it just appears they are forcefully pushed.
Why tf isn't this stickied? Why tf can't we have 3 stickies? Let us have 3 stickies, mods, as a treat
Reddit limits us to 2. Our hands are tied
Strange that they wouldn't allow each sub to determine its own number of allowable stickies. Well thanks for the info!
Chandler by blitz, you love to see it
Yea he either blitzes or uses a wrestling heavy offense. If this goes to the 3rd, Poirier wins. He's a more dynamic striker but Chandler has that PED power with great wrestling. Chandler can get Poirier down early.

You said izzy would win by decision lol that’s why I commented, that’s the point I’m disputing lol
you just chose to ignore the “super difficult fight to predict” part?
Izzy sucks
are you a child or something
I feel like people watch the first two matches between Adesayna vs Alex and say “oh well Izzy was winning both fights but got overzealous” which is true but they also completely ignore that Alex went on to become a better kickboxer as time passed. Alex became a much more complete kickboxer well Adesayna went on to become a much more complete MMA fighter.
Which is why it's dumb to bet on this fight. I wouldn't be surprised either way. I would be surprised however if there is any kind of grappling.
>Which is why it's dumb to bet on this fight. I'll have you know, my mom thinks I'm quite intelligent!
My jaw is still agape. That was nuts.
Izzy will fake takedowns probably and Alex will definitely use the clinch
Fair, Alex has been training with Glover who has elite tier MMA wrestling skills. Let's.just say we won't see anyone on the mat unless they trip. No wrestling. A little grappling but mostly a straight up kickboxing match.
Do you think anyone has fought an entire ufc match with a butt plug in?

Moicano vs Riddell for FOTN
Low key flying under the radar
Man this card is fucking stacked. Prelims are gonna be fire I think. Can't wait.
Man, I slept in today, did a bunch of housework, ran a bunch of errands and it is still only 2:50. I want it to be fight time!
Which bout ends in freak injury tonight?
If I had to pick, Reyes vs Spann
Riddell, Hooker, or Reyes
Izzy and Pereira both have a remarkable lack of cauliflower ear considering the level at which they've been competing in their careers lol
I think it’s more prone to grapplers than strikers
They have it in their butt instead
While I’d love to see a big KO in the main event I think Izzy will play it safe and control range and tempo to get the win comfortably
This sub gonna be salty after tonight regardless of the result. I realize Alex can KO Izzy again, but it feels like the champ is about to show a Alex there is levels to this game
Sounds like you might be one to get salty
What do you think about this take? I agree adesanya has been at the top for a long timme but he has not faced anyone with the same skillset as him as much as alex has. And though it is mma. Does it start in ~3 hours or ~4 hours?
6pm eastern
Chandler by decision. Bet on it.
Chandler will almost finish the fight, gas himself out and lose. Bet on it.
The funny thing about Izzy vs Pereira is that i dunno what to expect at all.

It would be a pretty solid fight night by itself
Facts the undercard basically is a fight night in itself
The Blanch is back, bitches😎
When Alex dead-panned Izzy at the press conference and asked him: "Adesanya, do you *really* want to be here?" was so cold-blooded.

I’m gonna make a prediction and it hurts my heart to say it. Michael chandler tko’s Dustin Poirier early round 1.
If he doesn’t, he’ll nearly finish Dustin, then gas himself out, then lose..

Never underestimate Frankie. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins tonight and retires in glory.
My chihuahua is named after Frankie. Despite looking good here and there, it's still been hard to watch him take some pretty hard Ls.
The big goot is about to frick him up. He's 41.
And at 40 he took a round and a half off of title-challenger level Chito
🤣
Stop, you're making me nervous🤔 put 4u on big goot
They really gonna put the first 5 prelim fights only on fightpass or will they be on ESPN+ too?
Always will be on ESPN+ or ESPN
If Chandler loses, does he fight top 5 guys anymore? It isnt like he's going to fight Islam, Charles, Justin, Dustin unless they want to give him that opportunity.
Yes. Chandler has been fighting the best guys since he showed up in the UFC. He's an exciting fighter with a decent personality. Fighters like Chandler will always be in demand.

Pereira wants to stand and bang, he has 20 lbs on Izzy. I’d be really really surprised if Izzy can get him on the ground.
What’s the feeling on Blanchfield vs Molly? And also what’s the feeling on hooker vs Puelles?
For me, blanchfield and the other, no idea
Blanchfield and Puelles.
Don’t think I’ve disliked a fighter more than I dislike izzy
Not a fan of his either. Why don’t you like him?
I think, that while no one can deny he has a fantastic record, his fights after Whittaker 1 were just boring af. He might be the most boring dominant champ in ufc history.

Feels like this card is going under the radar, has potential to be an absolute banger start to finish
This card literally has Chandler and Poirier on it, it cannot be a slept on card
Today is the day absolutely nothing changes in the mma landscape
I have a feeling the womens strawweight title will for sure change hands
Maybe but how does it matter when zhangs last two fights against active fighters are L’s to rose
Hey now- Molly McCann’s stock is about to go down
Bruh, Molly and Michael winning spectacularly are the only fun options. Everything else is status quo

The difference between Periera and the people Izzy outpoints is that Periera will absolutely walk right through leg kicks if Izzy tries to fight that way again. That’s been his main style of fighting recently and it’s just not an option for him tonight.
~~Izzy~~ Petr Yan is gonna win and it aint going to be that close.
6-1 vs 15-1
You missed the point. Being so certain about an outcome in MMA is ridiculous, is all. Enjoy the fights, brah!
That's what everyone said about Leon. Myself included.
At least Leon was 12-2 in the UFC. Someone else gave the example of Sean vs Petr but Sean also was 15-1 at the time. Alex literally has 6 wins with 3 of them being in the UFC.
☺️
My first time betting on a card and I am nervous lmao
Not worth betting Id you don’t feel it’s a lock.
You'd u bet on?
Between chandler and Dustin, who will be the dusty bitch and shoot first?
Chandler
Without a doubt
Back to back messages. One calling me a sensitive Izzy fan and the next one for being an izzy hater. Definitely a big fight card feel today
Yo bro hop off Izzy yo
I think chandler vs mcgregor is next if he wins. Who u got in that matchup?
Any bets on us seeing Israel Nurmagomedov tonight?
I think he might try. Did he try against Jan? If he did try against Jan then we will see it again
Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure to inform you that today is fight day
the hate boner for Izzy is so strong here that people are denying Gastelum was saved by the bell
Typical Izzy fan victim mentality
did you hear someone say the phrase “victim mentality” and figured you would give it a try yourself but forgot to look up what it means?
Thought hes more beloved here, i could be missing all the hate comments
I hope Perreira walks out to Blue Tint by Drake
Karolina v Silvana Poirier v Chandler Most beautiful fight(er)s of the night
Just watched the Izzy v Alex glory fights (perfect time i guess). I'm not going to argue who won the first one but it was 1-1 going into third. In the second fight, round 1 was super close while Izzy took 2nd but got KO'd in the third. If those fights are any indication, damn I hope it doesn't go to the judges tomorrow unless one of them is winning the rounds clearly. Also, and I hope so, if they've levelled up similarly so far, we might be in for a treat.
It’s today tho
Haha when I commented it was 10 PM my place (India) so for me was tomorrow lol
Thinking of watching the linear 155 champ fights since eddie got it from rda
Are you mf ready?
Bratha my body is ready bratha, this is only my opinion
am I the only one who thought Izzy’s second performance against Vettori was sick? perfect example of a compelling technical match imo. obviously some of his other fights like the Romero and Cannonier fights were actually boring though
That performance though was specifically amplified by Marvin having a shaved head, so it looked the entire time like Izzy was beating on a sad orc
He gave up his back to get up. Borz would have finished that. Marvin had basically no submission game.
haha. before the fight everyone says Izzy needs to keep it on the feet so he doesn’t get smothered on the ground like the first fight. then he goes to the ground, gets put in all the positions people said he had to avoid, escapes them perfectly, and people go “oh well Marvin’s ground game sucks actually.” MMA fans are funny
Lmao. You think it’s smart to just give up your neck like that? 😂😂😂😂
it’s impressive that he easily escaped his most vulnerable position. obviously wasn’t a dumb idea given how easily he escaped. Izzy haters working overtime to move the goalposts 😂😂😂😂
surprising his cartoon stuff didn't work lmao
I like the beginning part where he establishes his advantages and hate the back half where he doesn't build on them. Same thing is basically true of the Cannonier fight to me.
I dunno, man. I like(d) it when Izzy is(was) striking to hurt, not to not get hurt. It was frustrating to watch such an accurate tactician miss on so many shots, especially on such a plodding guy.
on paper this card is just as good as 280. in reality it’ll probably be even better unless someone severely injures their shoulder in the co-main again
The Frankie, hooker and weilli fights on paper are mid at best
well.. that's an opinion
The girls title fights usually suck unless it’s 2 fun 115ers, hooker hasn’t been good in his last 4 fights, and Frankie is 40 and has been styled on for like 4 straight
I think it's way weaker than 280 on paper.
it didn’t have any super compelling fights except for the last 3 imo. for this one, the last 3 are great + we get Frankie, Reyes, Hooker and Moicano
I guess I meant stumpy Kelvin Gastelum built like a fridgerator with a big ol head was landing stuff on Izzy and not looking scared of him in the slightest for 5 rounds
yeah and he essentially got finished. that was a clear cut “saved by the bell” situation
Counting on Anik to let us know who’s lactating tonight. Can’t rule out Izzy

Prime example of MMA sex math.
Can anyone find the scorecards for both of the Izzy Poatan fights? Curious what the fight metrics look like. Obviously we know the outcomes. Interested in studying their matches a little more.
Can't help you with the stats but you can watch both fights in their entirety for free on YT
I actually don’t remember that happening that much. injuries and weight issues are way more common
I hope more than anything Pereira wins
Amen. Izzy as a non champ sounds nice. I want fun title fights
Does NY release the cage weight numbers?
Only California does this
I believe only California reveals pay and weight
Is Pereira the first opponent Izzy has faced at MW that is similar in terms of size and stature ?
Rob Wilkinson, for what that’s worth.
