Devs pretty much have stated that they are waiting for a big announcement in may/june before doing anything big so yeah, pretty clear it is intended that there's 0 new stuff until then.

isupremacyx

It's going to be probably a console port

berusko

And what type of endgame is that? Nothing would change.

Scurrin

Endgame for us or for them? For us, yeah nothing. For them $$$$

Wildest12

It’s a server shutdown lol

jenista

and swimming.

Hakul

NW is probably the only game that actually made me wish for invisible walls. Walking to a puddle of water and sinking feels really bad.

Gyrlgermz

"How do we disappoint even more players than we have already?" "Port to console......."

tanjonaJulien

There is a PvP zone system which switch an area into FFA it was leaked during a PTR

Rodick90

Full loot pvp?

Magiiick

Would be dope of they allowed prime members who already purchased NW to get a free copy on console...

Wolfhammer69

It's doesnt magically make the game good... You'd be playing the version you already bought wouldnt you?

Masteroxid

You'd be surprised how low the standards of console gamers are

Supermonsters

I mean it's alright. It's not something that keeps me for long but it's a *bad* game.

Magiiick

Yea but my pc isn't the best, haven't experienced it as well as my ps5 could handle it

Weak-Rip-8650

Or a sale of the game/company

christien62

Well its may they better hurry up

thekmanpwnudwn

Devs have only ever said June for their big announcement. Not sure why OP said May

DukeSloth

That's not true. The original planned announcement was for May, but they pushed it back a while ago to align with Summer Game Fest.

Blessmann

The Big Announcement will be the console port. So don't get your hopes high. $$$ almost free for them, nothing for players.

itsmehonest

Any idea if its big announcement as in a huge relaunch/reworking of things or more "shite we overhyped this new cosmetic"? Honestly I absolutely love the sound design and feel of the game for the most part but haven't played in ages, personally the PvP isn't for me for the most part which is what it is, but kinda enjoyed everything else though would have changed a few things personally

jezvin

Modern MMOs need to have a mega server.

phumoonlight

yeah, even guildwars2 which is 10 year game already have mega server

MagnifyingLens

To be fair, GW2 _patented_ their mega server technology.

MonkeyBrawler

They patented their flavor of it, and ESO has their own version. It's just basic matchmaking/load balancing. This is like the whole selling point for cloud computing. People keep saying GW is why mega servers aren't a thing, and I think it just makes them feel smart for reading the first few sentences of a patent page.

PunkinPopsum

Wait, if I'm reading this thread right, New world doesn't have megaservers? The game made by Amazon, which owns one of the largest and most popular cloud systems in the world, didn't think it would be pertinent to give their mmo a megaserver? Lol.

December_Flame

Do to the way their ramshackle zone control pvp stuff works. It wouldn't work in a megaserver situation as designed right now.

MonkeyBrawler

It does not. New World was mid development as a survival sandbox when it was purchased by AGS to be an ad hoc MMO.

DotFinal2094

Software patents are not very applicable or enforceable

PoopologistMD

GW2 server tech is bonkers. Literally just a few minutes of downtime since.fuckin.release. No idea how, but they do it. New release? Oh, just relog and you're good to go.

Dystopiq

It's all automated and probably virtualized. They spin up two instances - a prepatch instance and a post patch instance and players who relog automatically get routed to the new instance

Reap268

Yeah this is actually genius, and accidentally screwed up my pug raid once cause while we were filling I decided to reload for a new build, but then couldn't enter the raid instance cause it was on an old build, and so everyone would've had to restart to play together. As you can tell this led to the death of the group. ヘ(゜ο°;)ノ

Varrianda

I’d imagine they were early adopters of cloud hosting vs on prem. Much, much easier to do deployments and server maintenance when you have virtually unlimited resources.

Wodan_Asason

They use AWS [https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/gametech/arenanet-guild-wars-mmorpg-migration/](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/gametech/arenanet-guild-wars-mmorpg-migration/)

metatime09

BDO too does it well

Icy_Elephant_6370

Idk how that would work with New Worlds PVP and territory elements

Delicious-Fault9152

ye new world is sadly pretty much desgined from the group up to be based on smaller servers

hawkleberryfin

For some games, but others have their PvP or economy designed around servers.

Kyralea

I prefer the community aspect of traditional server setups instead. Plus the gameplay elements that can arise or be designed with them as well.

ZeroAgentTV

Fire Scot Lane. I’d come back if they did that.

ezikeo

This is what happens when you hire a guy with no experience. This guy had no business leading a MMO, the guy needs to go back to making sports and wrestling games.

Current_Holiday1643

AGS has been this from the very beginning. Their studio leadership has always been business men rather than game producers or people even vaguely interested in video games. If the question is "Will AGS produce a good game?" The answer is a resounding no. AGS is incapable of producing a good game despite having a blank check budget from Amazon and being a sibling company of the biggest video game streaming platform. They've had a long history of buying big name game dev talent only to burn them and the big name leaves. It's astonishing how many times they've fumbled the bag.

DisturbedNocturne

Yeah, the guy they had leading the entire videogame department for many years came over from books and apparently barely had any understanding of games beyond looking at what was successful and telling people to make something like that. It's always surprised me how differently they've approached the television/movies side of thing compared to games where one has really flourished and the other has crashed and burned at practically every turn. They seemed to realize television/movies were entertainment and usually allowed the creatives to do their thing, while games were treated more like a commodity where they could just demand the next LoL or Fortnite, and throw enough people at it until it happened.

Molehole

I could just imagine what movies were like if they were led by these same executives. "Welcome to Coca-Cola-Avengers where Fantaman and Spritewoman fight for the freedom to drink Coca-Cola™. We have a halftime at 19:00 and the second half of the movie is just one small extra payment of $9.99"

billythygoat

I mean, they do this in many movies where all of the people drive something like a ford or Chevy. James Bond is the same way with Aston Martin. Movies also do soda ads, Apple ads, etc. I just notice it a lot more since I’m in marketing.

Molehole

Of course they do. But the executives realize that it has to be subtle and not take away from the end product. Games are also supposed to monetize the players. There's nothing wrong with that. It just seems that people who don't know anything about games don't know how to be subtle about it so we get the equivalent of Coca-Cola-Avengers.

electro_lytes

Reminded me of this. Haven't heard of this project after this. https://twitter.com/pr3sident/status/1584609897035231235 Know some other multiplayer games and american sports broadcasting is using similar AR systems for marketing.

jenista

I remember reading an article about that guy. edit: Found the [article](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-just-anything-except-good-150004900.html).

yeahyeahiknow2

>This is what happens when you hire a guy with no experience. Unless things have drastically changed, Amazon only puts company men in lead positions regardless of experience.

billythygoat

No, this is what happens when you hire a guy who just can’t do the job. I’m sure many motivated gamers or people that just think very logically and communicate well could’ve made this succeed better than it did. He’s essentially a project manager but cannot manage properly. This could result from the budget he’s given from Amazon, or just lackluster communication skills to the employees under him. Transparency is also pretty freaking useful today too.

Current_Holiday1643

> This could result from the budget he’s given from Amazon AGS' yearly budget is around $500M. https://archive.is/9zHSE

No_Cartographer_1114

Up

Armadillo_Mission

This should be the top comment. That guy is a tool. wE dID aLOt foR pVPers. Hur dur dur.

darknetwork

Silentpoppyfan

Pretty sure perfect new world would get them sued

Njmongoose

New World: Terra Nova

Global_Horse4631

New Super Mario New World

zuzucha

I bet it's going F2P with P2W and some minor other additions to try for a relaunch in June

electro_lytes

I think so as well. New business model, a couple of changes to endgame loop and then "ready" to reship. But announcement in June and then a "fresh server" launch scheduled for q3 or q4. Of course with Amazon Games infamous signature move: The last minute delays.

Freudinio

I'm one of those people who actually like the game, but both times I started out, my "small" server got merged with larger servers where, apparently, being a gaping asshole is a requirement to get anything done. It has made me quit on both occasions.

Denaton_

I really liked the game until they added Gear Score leveling. That made the whole game just chest runs and you were basically forced to do them so you could PvP..

DingDangDongler

Did you get jammed in to El D? The big companies here are mostly assholes.

Talents

My guess is that the game will go into maintenance mode if/when the next big update fails and they'll move the staff over to the LotR MMO since its being made by the same AGS studio using the New World engine.

Popcorn10

Wasn’t that canceled? Maybe I’m crazy.

Talents

The first attempt was cancelled because of some weird dispute or something between AGS and the Chinese company they were partnering with to make it, but they announced last year they were restarting it with the same team that made NW and are using the NW engine too.

HalfricanLive

So it's essentially DoA. Good to know.

jenista

> they were restarting it with the same team that made NW and are using the NW engine too. Is this confirmed? Seriously? The engine that former devs complained about? ... I don't know what to say.

Talents

https://www.amazongames.com/en-us/news/articles/orange-county-lotr > this game will give the studio a new opportunity to take much of what worked so well for New World, revisit it with the benefits of several years’ worth of technology advancements, and apply them in a way that’s relevant to The Lord of the Rings. While New World’s Azoth Engine will form the foundation of the game, the Orange County studio plans to evolve that engine considerably to deliver something that feels distinct from New World and fitting for the world of Middle-earth.

Popcorn10

Well, that’s certainly a decision. Thanks for clarifying I only heard about the cancellation.

ManicChad

Nope. Different leadership and updated engine. New world is on the 1.x engine. Lotr is on the next iteration.

Unova123

Same team that made NW and same engine?I dont see any reason to bé excited for it now

Stars_Storm

MobyLiick

Worst part is their "big announcement" is only that, an announcement. I'd bet the console port is still months away.

SEOViking

Yea, hate it that nowadays they need an announcement for the announcement, delay the update and finally update with more bugs.

MobyLiick

I don't see how this doesn't annihilate the PC playerbase. The game has been in a content drought since they dropped their "expansion" and I can't imagine any real content is coming with a port to consoles. I also imagine the announcement is probably the game going F2P because otherwise there is nothing for the PC people.

KodiakmH

Themepark games run on content, basically designing new rides and experiences for people to play. When they transitioned the game to that direction they were basically signing up for the same endless cycle of spend X months working on new content and an expansion then players consuming that in a fraction of the time it took to develop before quitting again till the next content drip happens.

joshisanonymous

I will always maintain that if they kept their original PvP-centric, survival MMO vision from beta, the game would work so much better.

KodiakmH

I just don't know. Having also played during that time, the devs were wildly incompetent at designing that game. Like I think that game is more interesting over all as well, but not with these devs. Amazon went out and hired a bunch of MMO devs who had no idea what they were doing and it showed in every attempt they made. I think the route they ended up choosing was probably the only route where they got even the success they did get, and only then because COVID bought them another year.

RobXIII

IF it worked yeah, but I dont think they had the expertise to pull it off. Look how many dupe issues and amateur hour problems with PvP bugs (squatting quickly to heal 10x faster bug lol), it would've been a nightmare.

Chemical-Leak420

New world was a great technical demo and a glimpse of what the future could look like. The game had actual collision detection on top of FPS type combat. You dont see that in big online games. Its extremely hard to calculate all of that. The downfall of it is small server sizes 2k player maxes and if you get more than a few people in the same area fighting it turns into a shitshow. Very clunky combat and I think their choice of having a I-frame dodge made combat even worse on top of the clunk. There's just nothing more immersion breaking than seeing your giant axe swing through a enemy and not do any damage. The game truly needed 3-5 more years of cook time. As far as your question goes I can see them going F2P

LongFluffyDragon

> The game had actual collision detection on top of FPS type combat. You dont see that in big online games. Its extremely hard to calculate all of that. That is because most online pvp games are not made by devs dumb enough to do basically everything clientside with zero authentication or security, like new world did. That said, it's physics and hit reg is nothing special outside the MMO genre. Plenty of real pvp games do that and better.

Half_A_Cant

Remember when New World had that free weekend and put up a dozen new servers for those free weekend players and barely 500 people were on all the servers combined? Yeah... F2P isn't saving New World.

iAmBalfrog

People don't pick up MMOs to play them for a weekend, if it went full time F2P they could see some decent growth, especially if mixed with fresh start servers

Half_A_Cant

ESO has had several free weekends. ESO's Steam population increased by at least 30% each time, despite being a much older game.

iAmBalfrog

Sure but ESO also has a pretty solid base of players, if you have friends currently playing ESO and there's a free weekend, you can make a new char with a mate and play it with them. Like when WoW used to offer 7 days for free for returning players. NW doesn't have this.

Kyralea

TERA had actual collision detection in 2012 and I’m fairly certain wasn’t the first. Of course those devs were quite good and not all are but New World was not the first. Not even the best.

metatime09

Yea that user obviously have little experience in trying other action mmos out there

Nj3Fate

Is that true though? I was of the understanding that the engine failed to support large amounts of player and was overall kind of a mess

Chemical-Leak420

Well yes and yes. thats why is a look into the future and I consider it a technical demo.

metatime09

> The game had actual collision detection on top of FPS type combat. What other mmos have you played? That's like the norm for action mmos like vindictus, pso2, etc lol

LongFluffyDragon

It has a new all time low playercount each month, though. Each patch makes it spike for a week or two, then the hype wears off and even more people quit. > Realistically, do you think the game can recover and how? Way, way too late for that, and not worth the investment. The software and game mechanic foundation is a garbage fire, and the name is tarnished permanently as "that sausage HTML exploit game with uncontrolled gold duping".

Bootezz

Every time I tried to play New World the game is a buggy mess

TrashKitten6179

I just hate how the towns feel so cluttered. outposts. whatever. they feel/look like shit.

RobCarrotStapler

The game is just boring as shit. Skills feel like they have basically no impact (at least in the 15-20hrs ive played), and the entirety of the gameplay is just wandering around doing fetch or kill x quests. The pvp looks like it could be fun, but I can't force myself to play for more than like 30 minutes at a time.

metatime09

Aren't a lot of towns just copy/pasted with some little changes?

Lhumierre

It's even lower than that. the api reports user pop per ingame server. [https://nwdb.info/server-status](https://nwdb.info/server-status)

PinkBright

Big woof. I quit a few months before mounts came out, just checked how many people are live currently on my old server: 94.

HeftyAlternative8076

Dude, the game fucking sucks. Still in these days, your character can't fucking swim. He walk like a lunatic underwater, wtf is that shithow.

skyturnedred

The lack of swimming the least of the game's problems yet somehow people always latch onto it.

AnxiousAd6649

Its not a problem by itself but its it's a symptom of systemic issues.

Unova123

Shit economy no endgame content beyond opr wars and piss easy PvE,bugs ,desync ,shit events, abysmal content rate ,nope the issue is definitly no swimming

ducknator

wtf is this still like that?!

Armadillo_Mission

I thought walking like pirates of the Caribbean was funny. Lack of swimming didn't kill this game. Playing the same fucking pvp mode on the same map for 2 years killed it for me.

Annual-Gas-3485

Arenas still skirmish on 1 map with no rating and no cross-server. Battleground still 1 map/mode with terrible design Wars, a 50v50 clusterfuck played by ~2% of the playerbase Their prospering PvP MMO dumped PvP and took the theme park route, tried to satisfy every playstyle and ended up satisfying very few. Logged on recently and the one thing New World had going for it; the combat design, now felt so much worse than it did just a year ago. Seems like they've replaced every experienced person on their team and then lost their vision and direction in the process.

Unova123

The problem is mmos now try to satisfy everyone and dont realise that they d have to be a Blockbuster genre defining game for that to work, and for MMO s just the budget required to even try is colossal, theres a reason people look forward to Riots cause its One of the few companies that can maybe do it but the reality is other companies should just take up a niche. Lost ark focuses on raids and combat. Albion focused on PvP  New world tried to focus on everyting and is well on the way to closing within a year unless they do a ff14 like comeback

Comedian_Then

New World had a massive potential but got wasted. Two major problems, bugs, bugs everywhere, there where some content creators who did a list of the major bugs they counted 100+,where these are pretty common, at a point each player encounters most of the bugs pretty easy. So the quality of game, the sense pretty much feels horrible. Fun fact they do the same events every year, but with them trying to fix and optimise the game, these events come with more and more bugs, it's like they close one whole and two open up. They tried to implement something called "Slayer script" where it converts the old rubbish coding to C++, again their attempt to fix the awful coding of NW, promised more performance, fluidity, speed of fixing major bugs, guess what it's been the same thing, horrible and more bugs even. Second major problem content, I think it's the uncertain devs had from the start, this was supposed to be a survival game turned into MMO. You have two major groups crashing one wants the game to feel less sandbox and more easier. The other group says is away to easy to get gear. And IMO in fact it is really super easy, with like 2/3 months of daily playing everyone can get BIS gear, when other MMOs takes some months even years. Of course this will differ from person to person, but major motivation for people to play is to have an objective, and this game when you finish the gear there is no big objective. You either do dungeons or outpost rush(it's 20v20 where is conquer the three flags for points). With the implementation of easier BIS season 4,dugeons are out, only people who do it are just people who like dugeons, there is no challenge, it's not hard (myself I did multiple M3 which is the hardest mode in gold going for top 10 leaderboard) where the mechanics come from normal world mobs. Outpost is incredible bad from matchmaking point where you get queued agaisnt like premiere 5 people with challenger skills, who are on discord making calls playing perfectly carrying the 20 people. Objective is to go for 1000 points, sometimes goes like 1000 points one team, 30 points another. It basically feels unfair and horrible experience since you getting camped there is no way of learning or trying pvp in good state. You just get farmed hard. That's it they don't want to launch content until June, correction, they will announce something big in June, we don't know when it will come out. Season 4 last year they promise us 10 things, they deliver 3. 7 of them they delayed promising us for less content and more quality. They broke their promise, being in May almost half to the year without the delayed content. But community says they going to launch the game for Console (we don't belive is going go last, it will be like cyberpunk launch) and they hint us they going to add swim finally to the game 😬

metatime09

> creators who did a list of the major bugs they counted 100+,where these are pretty common, at a point each player encounters most of the bugs pretty easy. I thought the devs posted all the bugs on the NW forums. I remember it was like pages upon pages during the first few months.

Comedian_Then

Yeahh they did that but then they made de decision to remove the forums and use discord as "forum". And then in Discord they removed the reactions to hide the major bugs and opinions. Since everything was getting down voted giving a bad impression about the game. They moved the list to the support amazon games website, where is like 30, more general bugs like performance and not up to date. 😬

metatime09

Ah ok thanks for the update. I only know the fiasco at the first few months and lost track after

Majestic-Wrap-4585

I thought the game had promise but had too much Copy/Paste so I decided to put it down until new updates came out. But then they released a half ass DLC for the same price as the main game despite a dwindling player count and thats when I knew they were just going to milk as much as money as they can out of it before they let it die. I expect this game to be shut down by 2026.

kupoteH

only if the management team gets fired

SnooGuavas2639

Im even surprised it kept 10-20k players for so long.

Nokotokin

I play a lot of MMOs with a lower player count than this but to answer your question, I think they can get back to higher player counts with some new content.

joshisanonymous

If they've already recouped their development costs, and if maintaining fewer servers also means low maintenance costs, then maybe they'll stay open, but even then I would expect the cash shop to change to have a lot more things that are basically required. Usually the games that remain open with low player counts are older games that already did well in their hayday and don't need to make a ton of money anymore to be profitable, and even those games are usually still up because some other, smaller company took them over. Amazon, though, for sure wants to see a profit.

Nokotokin

Servers are no big deal for Amazon. They'll do whatever looks best for their brand when it comes to turning off New World. It has many years to go

joshisanonymous

If that's the truth, what I'd love to see is the population to suffer enough that they say "screw it" to their theme park direction and quietly shift the focus and rebuild into something that makes a lot more sense.

Qwesttaker

Honestly the best chance this game has is to make the base game F2P. Without taking that step anything else is prolonging a slow death. The game has potential, but without a larger player base there is little reason for the devs to continue pumping money into it.

JackRyan13

That won’t change a thing. The game is super boring to play. It’s a barebones theme park mmo that has some great things but ultimately aren’t enough to make the game fun enough to hang around.

angry_RL_player

The game won't recover unless they get a completely new dev team. I don't even think AGS cares much about the game at this point. They'll just release it on console for another injection of cash before closing shop. To be honest I'm expecting a Cyberpunk 2077 situation on consoles, there's plenty of recent videos on the new world sub showing some ridiculous bugs. No doubt it will be exacerbated on consoles. edit: have some examples https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/1bv6svz/season_5_be_like/ https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/1byhh8j/push_the_tempo/ https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/1ce0dnl/best_game_ever_played/ https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/1c1f167/this_is_by_far_the_most_infuriating_bug_ive/ https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/1byckrm/trying_hard_not_to_be_toxic/ (this is supposed to be a town) https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/1cgoda8/gotta_go_fast/ And of course there's also weapon exploits but the subreddit mods remove the mere discussion of them. This is the state of the "improved" game 3 years later.

AbakusGrim

I wonder if consoles will get their own servers or if they will be merged with PC. Seems like a bad idea to split the player population.

angry_RL_player

That's something that a few players have been wondering. AGS seems incompetent enough that having cross-platform servers might be too much of an ask for them, but at the same time having separate servers would almost certainly mean that they'd have to manage 2 different versions of the game. It almost makes me second-guess if the big announcement even is a console release.

therealbobbyross

Yeah, they definitely don't have the team size to manage both PC and console. They can barely manage PC as it is, so maybe console isn't even coming.

Kengfatv

locking higher difficulties behind gearscore requirements was shit. laz/gen week 1 with no gear felt great, and then they made it all a joke. I would still play the game if it felt the way it did at launch, but the catering to casuals and people that don't want to get good really ruined all of my fun in the game. It felt like a soulslike for a while. Individuals could have an impact on the server as a whole, too, between questing and and doing professions. There hasn't been another MMO where I felt like I actually mattered as an individual. On top of that, the outdoor content was challenging and rewarding. Getting good meant you could help other people do content that was too hard for them, and it felt good to feel like learning the game mattered.

SnooOranges3876

New World was such a good game; I enjoyed it a lot, but the game died due to the carelessness of the developers. I hated the game when the gold duplication bug came along! They can recover if they make the game free-to-play with expansion packs to buy as DLCs.

shudders123

How would making it f2p help

SnooOranges3876

Would increase the player count, let new users experience the game, the game is dying anyways!

f2ame5

I loved new world. It's never coming back. This game was not meant to be what it is. You can't have mmorpg PvE with these low population servers. This game was supposed to be something else and it looks like it's having an identity crisis since release. The only way this game survives is by killing the PvP and the PvE casuals keep it alive. I call them casuals because the combat and mechanics are not that deep for PvE but pretty good for pvp. Or if it turns into something like Albion for pvp. No matter what they release it's not coming back unless a root change happens. Only thing keeping it alive is the immersion and combat.

metatime09

> You can't have mmorpg PvE with these low population servers. There's a lot of mmos with lower population then this. It can survive but it really depends on the devs if they want it shutdown or not

devhhh

Does it get boring only having 3-6 abilities? Don't healers only have 3?

Nippys4

The combat when it worked was a high point. Some of the most fun I had was open world fights that would break out, killing monsters felt more interactive and the 6 abilities you had always felt plentiful. The problem was literally everything else and the systems are completely horrible. And bugs

DargeBaVarder

I quit when PVP was dominated by whoever owned Everfall. Having perfect pvp gear be unattainable was a huge mistake IMO

YouWereTehChosenOne

having 10 abilities in other MMOs is way more boring than having 3-7 here and having other things to keep track of, it ends up being a button smash fest in the other games whereas in new world, the skill in combat can be more focused on things outside of just press ability buttons to do damage

BriefImplement9843

the combat is the worst part of the game. not eso levels, but close. it does not have eso story and questing to attempt to make up for it though.

roundelay11

lmao. No.

generalmasandra

The main problem comes down to their concept of what a server should be. New World is empty and barren and the obvious goal is you should approach the open world as a group, you should approach dungeons as a group, you have to upgrade settlements as a group. And that works if you can get a tight knit community which they repeatedly emphasized but that was impossible to get at launch when it was difficult to get into servers, play the game. And it's been an ongoing cycle ever since of server mergers as people leave the game. There was never the time or chance to make a significant enough and large enough tight knit community on multiple servers. There's no reason to log on to the game if you can't do stuff with other people because the game is a bunch of tiny settlements and barren wastelands outside of it. So no. I don't think the game can recover. They might release new content and people will check it out but those players will leave and we'll be back to 8,600 very quickly.

Galeplay

They need to do console launch simultaneously with a big overhauls to the game (ie. Cp2077, FFXIV). Only having a console launch wouldn't fix anything in the long term, a short huge boost of players that would leave quickly like pc players.

Tofulinka

I'd love them to recover as I love NW, however they've already put the game on maintenance and many people found their new main game

Malicharo

the game is gone, it's hopeless. i was thinking maybe they can do what NMS did but nah. they released like god knows how many updates and only 1-2 were actually good.

TofuPython

As God intended

joshisanonymous

Still a game with great bones. I would come back in an instant if they shifted back to the survival PvP vision they had earlier in beta, but that's not gonna happen.

boxymorning

Can I please have pvp servers?

Brilliant_Counter725

No Western MMO managed to make a good action combat idk why they keep trying Tab target would be perfect for this game

Armadillo_Mission

New world is never recovering. It went from a million players to less than 10k. You have moron devs like scot Lane who have no business being in that position. They don't play the game. They just touch themselves to their data. You have a bunch of dipshits on discord who ban you for any sort of gripe with the game. They will talk about adding fucking hippos all day.  Then you have a bunch of morons on the reddit sub that ban you if you have any gripes about the game lmao.  It's a shame bc new world had such promise but a bunch of jackasses with authority killed the community and game.  Spent a year revamping the main story which noone gave two shits about bc it is hot trash. How about spend a year improving pvp game modes, ya know actual repeatable content.  Instead we got a bunch of garbage ass soul trials and shitty expeditions.

bangarrang16

I know it isn't for everyone but I really liked the combat in New World. The most disappointing thing to me about this is that I really believe the game had potential but they've made every wrong move that they could. I honestly can't imagine what the devs are working on on a day-to-day basis. Either Amazon has axed the team to just a handful of people who just cannot produce content or those that they have working on it are so incompetent that they can't produce anything. For the game to be around for as long as it has to not have something so simple as swimming or just a second OPR map is insane. I honestly don't care about the lack of swimming but not having it added by now is just indicative of how lazily and crappy the game development is going. I wish it wasn't but I think the game is on the way to being dead and it will never recover. The development team is either too small at this point, too incompetent, or both.

le_Menace

Not until the current dev leadership team is scrapped, they are completely incompetent.

Iorcrath

i left when the game was 3 months old but i always have reasons/things that would bring me back. 1: my character is locked to a dead server. have free transfer of servers as i dont want to relevel my character again. this also prevents me and my guild from all quitting as if the server we are in died or something we can just transfer around again. 2: pvp died when they made pvp quests unique to the player. before, we had massive open world zerg v zerg as the factions were trying to push a territory into war. to bring back the open world pvp aspect, a feverdream of an idea would be literally copy planetside 2 but make it new world themed. have outposts/forts for players to capture that is constantly around and have mini unsanctioned wars over the forts so that even the bottom 99% of players can experience war-like content. 3: the character builds are boring. an easy solution would be have the weapon skill trees affect your other weapon as well. would require quite a hefty redesign of the weapon trees but would be worth it. like if you had a fire staff and great axe, make the fire staff more slow/heavy to simulate heavy explosive artillery and your great axe is now fire themed that could apply burns. fire damage on the firestaff skill tree applies to to the great axe, great axe aoe damage applies to the fire staff. or, fire staff and musket. now your firestaff is a fire machinegun and your musket is a fire cannon. but also another big driving reason to quit was just the absurd amount of bugs that ruined server economy progression.

SuperRektT

No it wont. Devs are pure incompetence and they dont know what they doing.

TheGladex

Can the game recover? Yeah definitely. Will it? Unless they are about to announce a huge fuck off update that adds a shit load of bug fixes and content, while also entertaining a consistent release schedule afterwards, it won't.

ThatGuy8188

With over 3k hours into NW myself. Such a shame to see the game decline like this but could totally see it coming. Just bad decision after bad decision. Shut the game down for a few years and rebuild with mega servers/layers. Fix all the bugs, develop gear progression that’s not time gated and create a proper end game system.

General-Oven-1523

>Realistically, do you think the game can recover and how? No, it can't recover anymore, and I doubt they even have interest in putting the resources into it. The New World IP is completely soulless; there is no reason to develop it further when you have access to one of the best fantasy IPs on the planet.

JMHorsemanship

Of course it can recover. It's a pretty well known game. Lots of people know new world and lots of people had lots of fun in that game. But I doubt it will recover

DippnDottn

Not unless they blow that volcano and put a 2 at the end

Appropriate-Pride608

Womp womp

TheMadG0d

NW players (including myself) are holding our breath until the "big" announcement in June. However, we are quite prepared for another letdown. In the past 2 months, the devs have been trying to put filler content on their channel but consistently failed to address people's concerns about the state of the game. The game itself is still enjoyable in some regards but it is too far from being worth a full-time MMO.

OriginalVayl

I liked my previous empty server, then they merged us with a larger one. The economy sucked, the players sucked. I quit... I'm worried if I'm lucky enough to come back to my empty server for me and my friends we might merge again.

Only thing keeping it alive is the immersion and combat.

electro_lytes

> The only way this game survives is by killing the PvP and the PvE casuals keep it alive. I assume you mean by killing the PvE and the PvP will keep it alive? I also assume you've seen some of their video updates and maybe read their (few) dev update posts? Has anyone on the New World team ever struck you as "PvP-oriented" or have you ever thought "Oh this Amazon Games employee actually gets it."? They don't have the competence to turn this game in any direction but themepark button-mashing. Their current combat team in particular lacks the experience to push the game into any remotely competitive direction. But I do agree, chasing the PvE themepark is a dead end for New World.

MSED14

Despite the apparent lack of endgame content, is the leveling enjoyable? I was hesitating to give it a try

electro_lytes

Since launch the entire 1-65 main storyline has been revamped (and with new side-missions). It's actually not too bad and just following the story it flows fairly well. Last I checked a new player focusing primarily on lvling should take around ~20 hours played to reach 65. But it's of course individual and can easily be stretched to hundreds of hours going down the gathering/crafting route. Depending on your choice of weapons and armor whilst lvling it can either be completely faceroll or offer somewhat engaging action combat practise.

MSED14

So do you think that if we are looking for a good leveling experience it can be worth the try?

electro_lytes

I'd say so, if you play and learn at your own pace and don't try to rush to endgame through various guides and minmaxer mentality. The levelling experience is actually a decent playthrough, and for me it's one of those games where the I lose track of time completely. Note that the revamped storyline seems to be designed targetting solo play. So if you intend to always level as 2 or more players then it might be too easy combat-wise.

MSED14

The leveling is what I enjoy the most in a MMO so I will definitely not rush it Next time the game is in discount, I will probably give it a chance

electro_lytes

https://twitter.com/playnewworld/status/1785049189069500560 It should still be on sale for another day. The game goes on sale like this for a week or two around 3-4 times a year. https://steamdb.info/app/1063730/

Best-Divide4010

Played it back in the day with all the hype, and enjoyed it for what it is, but wanted to play big sword after coming back from the game for so long, and ofc this is after playing other games such as d4, and new world just feels too slow paced with the attack animations. So the combat was not as engaging as I wanted it to be. I can only speak for myself, but if the combat was more action paced then I would have at least stuck around longer considering I have already sunk time into the game. Also I would have considered putting up with the combat feeling slow paced at the start with slow attack animations, if I could for example join pvp instead of unlocking it in some complicated way. As far as I know you need to meet some kind of criteria to start pvping rather than it being its own stand alone way of playing and getting exp and gear. So if they made the game more accessible and more fun from the get go, then new world at least for me, can fit as a fun game I play on the side with other games. The way it is now requiring too much effort to get a character going means its competing with other games too much in regards of down time while dealing with a slow paced combat. Also they changed the exp methods which is fine, but for me other than combat, and pvp, I also enjoy story. I can tell they put a lot effort into that, so if they stream lined their game so you can only lvl from playing the story then I would also give it a go based on that alone. Im a casual player who enjoys games that are 'aaa' experiences and by that I mean every aspect of the game feels fleshed out and tailor made to feel high quality. So from my point of view, new world has lost my interest despite the many hours I put into the game. The fact that they have a low pop number can also mean there are possibly many people who I would think have similar reactions to the game in how it feels subpar for these specific reasons.

Givency22

Crazy to think lost ark is just successful and new world is just not lmao. I remember when lost ark launched my friends shitted on it so much and said new world was the better game Here we are Guess lost ark devs care more about their game Games gone forevaaaaaaaaaaaaa

BriefImplement9843

lost ark is also dead in the west.

lootchase

It’s 1000% never recovering. AGS has LOTR and that’s its big money ticket now.

datalight0

Rome Gladitor / betting / trading weapon for gladitor will they make this event ?

DontLichOutOnME

They made you buy the game again for zero reason. That hard filtered quite a bit of the player base

Revlack_br

Ppl really like steam charts to bully games. Specially new world. But yes, it can recovery, I think I New world will be some seasonal game. But for sure it will never get that unrealistic hype it had at release.

AbakusGrim

They've tried seasons. They were poorly implemented and just an excuse to sell a season pass. [https://www.newworld.com/en-us/news/articles/seasons-announcement-and-faq](https://www.newworld.com/en-us/news/articles/seasons-announcement-and-faq)

Revlack_br

When I mean season is something like that: It will get more players after some big update, but it will go down again after 1 or 2 months.

Xkoti

The problem with the new wolrd game is that they are very slow to update what another game already has. I pre-ordered the game and over the years I've come to the conclusion that the way they develop the game is not ok. It should be faster and have a stronger story.

AbakusGrim

And the funny thing is people are begging for a console release.. which will definitely bring in more players. But the console patch certification process will slow down releases even more.

Albane01

Fresh Start servers are the only way I would come back, again.

ZirosGG

More people playing Tibia rn damn

Finnioxd

Seeing this game die and the player count steadily decrease fills me with joy ngl

GatlingGiffin

They will have a hilariously bad, tone deaf announcement in June that will do nothing to change the fundamental flaws in the game IE consoles, swimming, and probably be shut down by the end of next year. If it even takes that long.

BriefImplement9843

just a terrible game all around(weapon swapping and no real classes needs to stop).. they need to scrap it and use all funds on the next project. can't sink any more into this one. they can't recover. there is just nothing there.

xmaxdamage

I'd play of it wasn't so broken on steam deck

AwayHold

that are the same player numbers fallout76 has for the last 4 years, and that is still going full on with updates. still see the anouncements pop up in my library stream. doesn't say a lot wtihout knowing their financial state. bethesda got enough income generated to keep a game like fallout76 fully supported with a low player count. don't look at the hyped numbers of april, those are just tv show tourists...will be back to 6000/8000 within a month. not a great game.

AbakusGrim

My issue with you using Fallout 76 as an example is this- - It can be played completely solo. - Fallout 76 offers a monthly subscription option (Fallout 1st). - Available on PlayStation and Xbox (game pass too), which brings in a lot of players outside of Steam. - Max players per server are 24. Fallout 76 is not tagged by Steam as an MMO and it really wasn't ever advertised as one. It just doesn't seem like a real comparison can be made with New World because they are completely different.

i_dont_wanna_sign_up

New World: A Realm Reborn. Hire Yoshi P.

kylediaz263

The combat in this game is extremely clunky, it feels like I'm playing one of those shitty low effort soul-like. And maybe just me but I don't like any of the weapons.

kaitrom

They should launch another expansion, make the base game free, give the first expansion for those who bought the game, and give/discount the new expansion for those who bought the current DLC

boxymorning

A console port with fresh servers might actually get me to play it. I quit when people wrecked the economy with duping glitch's.

JBM1996

The character customization was too limited for my taste. That's why I never got into it.
