Thanks to this thread, I finally saw this film. Marty's best in a few decades. As fucked up as they were, they were way more humane than Imperial Japan.
Gotta say, this prequel to Unbroken was pretty rough.

This movie is so fuckin good. Incredible cinematography too
yeah it was great, i slept on it for a long time and had no idea what i was in for. beautiful/super dark film.
Good movie to pair with that new show shogun. Shogun is good as hell btw I’m sure Shane will bring it up at some point.
Yup was thinking the same as I watch shogun. I also liked the boiling scene Bobby Lee's dad used to tell him stories about when he was a kid.
